I can’t tell you how heartening it is to see somebody at KIRO finally promoting my weekend show. Yesterday Dori Monson called me a hypocrite for criticizing Ann Coulter for calling John Edwards a “faggot,” when in fact I had implied the same of Tim Eyman back on one of my early podcasts.
I’ll save the rebuttal for 1:35PM today, when I’ll be in the studio on Dori’s show, explaining how some guy in a bar is not quite the same thing as being the featured speaker at the preeminent conservative gathering of the year.
So be sure to tune in to 710-KIRO for the fireworks. It’ll be fun. Kinda like KVI’s “The Commentators,” only entertaining, because unlike John Carlson and Ken Schram, Dori and I tend to disagree on almost everything.

I just heard the clip that Dori was referring to, and it was of me quoting The Stranger describing Tim as “shockingly faggy.”
I haven’t gone back to listen to the podcasts, but my recollection is that this was from a bit we called “Tuesday Night Outing,” in which we would take an outspoken critic of gay rights and ask the panel if they think the critic is gay. The joke being, of course, that we always concluded the critic was gay.
Context is everything.

Well, I thought that went well. We passionately argued on air, and had a friendly discussion off. I’m guessing it was pretty good radio. I wouldn’t mind doing an hour with Dori on a regular basis.

Goldy, you are a hypocrite for criticizing Ann Coulter. She richly deserves criticism for what she said, but you have no moral authority to do so. That was a terrible thing for you to call Tim Eyman, and also hate speech against gay people by using such a word.
And you may find that the new owners of KIRO radio might just have a problem with radio personalities who hang out in bars, promote drinking of alcohol, and use profane language. They can overlook the first two things in most instances, but the profane language will be the last straw.

My last straw for Dori was something so offensive that I never heard anyone talk about it. A year or so ago he used KIRO absolutely to savage a teenager, calling him a series of disgusting names. The poor kid had given a speech at a high school graduation. Apparently, according to Dori’s source, he had openly criticized the president and the war. Dori’s friend was offended. Dori picked up the ball and spent the afternoon ripping into the kid, not checking on the accusation, not getting a different perspective. I have never heard greater abuse of the airways. It never occurred to Dori that this young man had earned his moment at the podium, that he was probably the valedictorian, that he wasn’t in the least offensive in any way other than his use of his earned right to speak to criticize the war. Dori’s was the worst use of radio to abuse a harmless (perhaps even virtuous)target that I have ever heard. His near locker room vituperation of the boy was unforgettable. And unforgivable.
I have refused to listen to him since that day and eagerly anticipate the day when he is told to take a long walk on a short dock.
