The Commentators

I can’t tell you how heartening it is to see somebody at KIRO finally promoting my weekend show. Yesterday Dori Monson called me a hypocrite for criticizing Ann Coulter for calling John Edwards a “faggot,” when in fact I had implied the same of Tim Eyman back on one of my early podcasts.

I’ll save the rebuttal for 1:35PM today, when I’ll be in the studio on Dori’s show, explaining how some guy in a bar is not quite the same thing as being the featured speaker at the preeminent conservative gathering of the year.

So be sure to tune in to 710-KIRO for the fireworks. It’ll be fun. Kinda like KVI’s “The Commentators,” only entertaining, because unlike John Carlson and Ken Schram, Dori and I tend to disagree on almost everything.

UPDATE:
I just heard the clip that Dori was referring to, and it was of me quoting The Stranger describing Tim as “shockingly faggy.”

I haven’t gone back to listen to the podcasts, but my recollection is that this was from a bit we called “Tuesday Night Outing,” in which we would take an outspoken critic of gay rights and ask the panel if they think the critic is gay. The joke being, of course, that we always concluded the critic was gay.

Context is everything.

UPDATE, UPDATE:
Well, I thought that went well. We passionately argued on air, and had a friendly discussion off. I’m guessing it was pretty good radio. I wouldn’t mind doing an hour with Dori on a regular basis.

Oh… and for those who listened, check out Dan Savage and Andrew Sullivan on the use of the word “faggot.”

Goldy, you are a hypocrite for criticizing Ann Coulter. She richly deserves criticism for what she said, but you have no moral authority to do so. That was a terrible thing for you to call Tim Eyman, and also hate speech against gay people by using such a word.

And you may find that the new owners of KIRO radio might just have a problem with radio personalities who hang out in bars, promote drinking of alcohol, and use profane language. They can overlook the first two things in most instances, but the profane language will be the last straw.

Damnit! I have a 1:00 meeting and won’t be able to tune in!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That being said, my housemate went to school with Eyman near Yakima, and confirms that Eyeman was, even back then, “shockingly faggy.”

ugh… Goldy has a face for radio, but definitely not a voice for it. What a whiney …..

    Mr. Goldstein,

I’d be looking for a sucker-punch. I smell a subverted objective from and by the new KIRO ownership.

Face it: if Dori Monson were intellectually honest about and gave a tinker’s damn regarding ‘faggoted hate-speech’ – not to mention HYPOCRISY – he’d devote his show lambasting the Talking Cyst – A.C. – and all of the CPACers who chuckled along with and have failed to condemn It’s attempt at humor. But no, he’s going after a tangential target who happens to be a *gack* liberal. Oh, the horrors…

DORKY MORON IS THE MOST DISHONEST TALK SHOW HOST IN THE LOCAL MARKET. THE GUY IS SLIME. THERE’S HARDLY A LINE OF RIGHT-WING BULLCRAP THAT GUY WON’T BUY.

IT’S HARD PUTTING DOWN AN ATTACK DOG LIKE DORK MORON BUT YOU HELD YOUR OWN GOLDY.

    Thomas Trainwinder spews:

Dori is one of the most intentionally misleading talk show guys around. However, that makes him very entertaining.

    RightEqualsStupid spews:

Dori doesn’t mind Coultergeist because he agrees with her. He probably teaches his ugly daughters to hate too.

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@2 Richard can’t take a joke, either. Lighten up, Richard. Maybe you could get elected to something if you weren’t so damn serious all the time — crack a smile when you’re working a crowd of voters … know what I mean? Maybe you shouldn’t take depositions so seriously that you reach across the table to menace the witness, either. Being a lawyer is a job, not a Crusade.

  10. 15

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Goldy isn’t a hypocrite because everything he said about Coulter is true, and everything he said about Eyman is true, too.

    Roger Rabbit spews:

Hmmmm … maybe someone should look into Michael Dunmire’s “relationship” with Eyman — might be more there than meets the eye …

    Dan spews:

Dori is the dumb asses dumb ass. He didn’t vote for Bush but learned to like him after he got in office. Holy shit!!

  13. 20

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@9 Oh, I don’t think we have to worry about Dori and his ilk very much. Going into the ’08 election cycle, I’d much rather be me than him.

  14. 21

    spews:

Talk about a tempest in a teapot!
    This is a ‘lather-in-lego-land!’

Dori has a penchant for blowing things out of proportion…(oops! That sounds a little faggy)….

On the flip side…it’s all good fun and good advertising for your weekend show…doncha think there Goldenrod? (darn it…another faggy quip!)

All of which makes me suspicious of Do-re-mi Monsoon’s real motivations!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Doughie was actually fearing for your continued existence at Kiro and decided to surreptitiously boost your ratings by throwing you a bone on his show (GAK! That’s it!…gotta go now)

    Keep it up Gol***
I MEAN….Keep up the GOOD WORK!

My last straw for Dori was something so offensive that I never heard anyone talk about it. A year or so ago he used KIRO absolutely to savage a teenager, calling him a series of disgusting names. The poor kid had given a speech at a high school graduation. Apparently, according to Dori’s source, he had openly criticized the president and the war. Dori’s friend was offended. Dori picked up the ball and spent the afternoon ripping into the kid, not checking on the accusation, not getting a different perspective. I have never heard greater abuse of the airways. It never occurred to Dori that this young man had earned his moment at the podium, that he was probably the valedictorian, that he wasn’t in the least offensive in any way other than his use of his earned right to speak to criticize the war. Dori’s was the worst use of radio to abuse a harmless (perhaps even virtuous)target that I have ever heard. His near locker room vituperation of the boy was unforgettable. And unforgivable.

I have refused to listen to him since that day and eagerly anticipate the day when he is told to take a long walk on a short dock.

The elephants were trembling in D.C. today, with evidence of political interference with the work of professional U.S. attorneys (including our John McKay). One of the dour rhinos in Dick Cheney’s office was convicted on four of five counts.
Under such circumstances, who gives a flying (Cheneyism) about a tick bird like Dori Monson?

  17. 25

    Roger Rabbit spews:

@22 What do you expect from a shill for GOP scum like Dori? Republicans are bullies and cowards. These chickenshits pick on high school kids because they’re too yellow to go fight the Ay-rabs in Eye-raq.

  18. 26

    Chadt spews:

As a faggot, I take great umbrage at attempts to link Eyman to faggotry. What did WE do to merit that?

    Gaaack.

    RightEqualsStupid spews:

Coultergeist is just mad because she thinks she has a bigger dick than anyone else.

  20. 28

    Rex spews:

Dori’s voice sometimes make me wonder whether his true desires make him hate himself, or if he’s just ashamed.
