Drinking Liberally with Ed Murray

by Goldy — Tuesday, 7/12/05, 11:50 am

State Rep. Ed Murray will be the featured guest at Drinking Liberally, which meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E.

Rep. Murray is the chair of the House Transportation Committee, and I’ve got a few questions (and suggestions) for him regarding the fight against I-912. He’s scheduled to arrive around 8:30 PM, but others will be gathering as early as 5:30 to watch the MLB All Star Game. I’ll probably show up around 8, but the place is likely to be crowded, so you may want to arrive earlier to grab a chair.

Drinking Liberally (West Seattle)

by Goldy — Wednesday, 7/6/05, 1:49 pm

As it turns out, there are so many liberals in Seattle, and so much beer, that our fair city hosts two Drinking Liberally chapters. The West Seattle branch meets tonight, and every Wednesday, 7 pm, at West 5, 4539 California Ave SW.

I intend to stop by tonight and see if the West Seattle folk drink any more liberally than the Montlake folk. Hope to see some of you there.

(Oh… and just so you know, the Spokane chapter also meets tonight, 7:30 pm, at the Red Lion Pub, 126 N Division St.)

For those of you who missed the opportunity last week to celebrate Dino Rossi’s capitulation by buying me a beer, I have graciously extended my invitation another week. I hope to see you all there tonight.

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. I invite you all to join me as I raise a toast to Judge Bridges, Gov. Gregoire, and an end to Rossi’s stunningly cynical election contest. And if you buy me a beer, I’ll toast you too!

Drinking liberally with David Neiwert

by Goldy — Tuesday, 4/5/05, 1:43 pm

Drinking Liberally meets again tonight (and every Tuesday) at 8pm at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Ave. E., and author David Neiwert of the blog Orcinus will be there to discuss his books, old and new. David has written about hate-crime policy, the roots of the Northwest’s “Patriot” movement, and most recently, Bellevue’s Japanese-American community that was destroyed by WWII interment.

I may be a little late, but I definitely plan to attend.

UPDATE:
Great turnout last night, and even greater conversation of with Dave Neiwert. As I emailed him afterwards, I’m going to have to start reading his books, instead of just reading about them.

I also had the opportunity to meet prolific HA commentator Dubyasux, and a couple unknown lurkers. Good beer, good conversation.

Drinking Liberally

by Goldy — Tuesday, 3/1/05, 12:20 pm

I’m always looking for creative ways to promote political activism, and so when I saw a post on another blog mentioning the Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally, I just had to check it out for myself. So last Tuesday I had myself a pint of Guinness and some good conversation with a bunch of like-minded strangers.

The name of the organization is pretty much self-explanatory. They’ll be meeting tonight (and every Tuesday) at 8 pm at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th AVE E. Alas, I cannot attend (my 7-year-old daughter hates Guinness,) but I encourage those unencumbered non-teetotalers of you to stop on by.

It’s baaaaaaaak…Podcasting Liberally!

by Darryl — Wednesday, 12/8/10, 5:52 pm

The Podcast is back after a long (and maybe, not so productive) sabbatical. Goldy and friends open up the ‘cast with a discussion of the Obama tax compromise cave-in, described by one panelist as the“worst messaging disaster…in a long time.” After some major meandering and bitching, Goldy seamlessly segues into levy equalization for Washington State. The panel imagines ways to give Red Washington the government they voted for.

The podcast plows into a deep issue: What does it say about Seattle that 3 or 4 inches of snow invokes “soul searching?” Or is this simply a pathology of a certain Editorial Board (member). Naturally this raises the question, should Goldy run for City Council in 2011? From local politics to an international man of mystery, the panel tackles the ethical, political, legal and corporate revenge ramifications of the Wikileaks leaks for publisher Julian Assange.

Goldy was joined by Peace Tree Farm’s N in Seattle, Effin’ Unsound’s & Horsesass’s Carl Ballard, DailyKos uber-blogger Joan McCarter, and Seattle Drinking Liberally co-host Chris Mitchell.

The show is 48:48, and is available here as an MP3:

Podcasting Liberally

by Darryl — Wednesday, 4/21/10, 11:42 am

It’s the Ask Goldy hour for this episode of the Podcast, wherein folks who have donated at least five bucks to the Horses Ass annual biennial fundraiser have purchased the privilege to ask Goldy anything at all. Goldy bares his soul in addressing the spectrum of questions from his love life to his Torah portion, and a few timely political questions, too. In between questions and answers, the panel delves into the political topics of the week.

Goldy was joined by Peace Tree Farm’s N in Seattle, a surprise visit by FakeTedVanDyk, DailyKos Uber-blogger mcjoan, and me.

The show is 1:00:30, and is available here as an MP3:
