DLBottleToday is Special Election Day for many in Washington State. So turn in your ballot at a drop box or voting center near you, and then hightail it over to the Seattle Chapter of Drinking Liberally to discuss it over a drink..

We meet tonight and every Tuesday at the Roanoke Park Place Tavern, 2409 10th Ave E, Seattle. You’ll find us in the back room starting about 8:00pm.

Republicans have already repealed the Fourth Amendment prohibition of searches of private residences without a judge-signed warrant (although courts may have final say about this), and now they want to repeal the Nineteenth Amendment as well, except unmarried women would still be able to vote (but they’re working on that).

    A federal judge has dismissed charges against a Los Angeles protester who was accused of assaulting an officer with a cloth hat, with an order saying the government acted in “bad faith”. The man had spent six months in jail awaiting trial.

    • Nonfarm payrolls increased by 130,000 for January, above the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 55,000.

    • The unemployment rate edged lower to 4.3%. A more encompassing measure slipped to 8%, down 0.4 percentage point from December.

    • As has often been the case for the U.S. labor market, health care led job gains in December, adding 82,000 positions. Social assistance also rose, up 42,000, while construction added 33,000.

    Lessee, more jobs caring for sick people, needy people, and people who need living spaces. Definitely something to celebrate, especially because employment is increasing and not decreasing as you had hoped.
