Guys. Are we at war? You know, it feels like we’re at war. Are we stealing Venezuelan oil? The President seems to think so, but maybe not. Anyway, Patty Murray seems — correctly in my opinion — outraged. Both by the act itself and by not consulting Congress. Maria Cantwell is issuing wishy washy nothing.

    A reminder:

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shared a laugh with a television news reporter moments after hearing deposed Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi had been killed.

“We came, we saw, he died,” she joked when told of news reports of Qaddafi’s death by an aide in between formal interviews.

And she laughed when she said it.

It’s instructive to consider that Maduro is still alive.

Currently there is no U.S. military operation going on in Venezuela.

Maduro’s allies, the Chavists remain in charge and running the government and the military.

If any government in the position of the United States had any credible plans for asserting even limited control over Venezuela they would be using the immediate opportunity created by the toppling of a dictator to seize control over airfields, ports, and infrastructure. It’s been 48 hours. There is nothing.

There was no plan beyond grabbing the Maduros. And there will be no outcome beyond that. The Venezuelan military will now be on very high alert in all locations. All the critical airfields will be reinforced with air defense systems. The ports will be mined. The government operations will be ringed with tactical heavy arms and troops.

The U.S. military will not be willing to escalate any further at this point without basically starting over from scratch. If the intention of the civilian “leadership” had been to do anything more than snatch Maduro it would have been made very clear to them well in advance that it is all or nothing.

Brave Trump settled for nothing. Nothing more than the most expensive felony warrant execution in all human history. No oil. No gold. No souvenir maracas. ¡Olé!

@36 Say, G-clown, did you see the new high reached by the Dow Jones Industrial Average today?

I sure did. My stocks gained enough today to pay for a new car or a kitchen remodel.

I paid $35.83 a share for my stock in Elbit Systems, an Israel-based manufacturer of military drones and defense electronics with a global customer base, including the Pentagon. ESLT was up $36.26 today, more than I paid for the stock, and now sits at $628.22.

My other holdings include Lockheed (up $14.50 today) and General Dynamics (up $12.16), both purchased in double digits.

Sure beats working for a living, and I get a lower tax rate than wage slaves, too. The fantasy that you get money in this country by working for it is over the top. Workers get less than peanuts; they get the peanut shells.

  46. Vicious Troll spews:

    @ 45

Can anyone explain to me why wages are rising at less than the inflation rate …

I’ll start by pointing out that wages are increasing faster than the rate of inflation:

Real average hourly earnings for production and nonsupervisory employees increased 1.1 percent from
    November 2024 to November 2025
, seasonally adjusted. This result stems from a 3.9-percent increase in
average hourly earnings combined with an increase of 2.7 percent in the Consumer Price Index for
Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W).
Real average weekly earnings increased 1.4 percent over the year due to the change in real average
    hourly earnings
combined with a 0.3-percent increase in the average workweek.

    https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/realer.pdf

I’ll end by pointing out that you are a failed former attorney and are now a useless, bloviating fool.

There is no reason to respond to a question with an obviously false premise. There is every reason to point out how simple it was to prove the premise false.

The New York Subway still has two man crews, and the Union wants it mandated out of fears of automation. The rhetoric is it will happen soon, but even if normal bureaucratic incompetence didn’t delay it, several things have to happen before conductors, let alone motormen disappear. First the CBTC upgrade that will allow for one man crews and eliminate the manned interlocking towers has to be completed, and on a system that never sleeps, that won’t happen until the 2050s. Then the trains have to be compatible, so the last conductor let alone motormen, haven’t been born yet.

    Happy J6!

The number of true swing voters sufficiently disgusted by San Fran Nan’s hand-picked “investigative” House J6 committee that they pulled the lever for Donald Trump has to be in the millions.

Hell, after watching my sis debase herself as part of that group of liars even em>I took a break from my carpet-munching to pull the lever for him.

The argument going around the Internet is that Cuba, Venezuela and probably Iran soon are no threat because they have completely collapsed with no power, no food, no water. Hence any actions against them are pure cruelty. If anything the rich capitalists should bail them out.

What this ignores is that these were once very rich countries that ran their economies into the ground with Communism and insane military spending. In a way feeling sorry for these regimes is like pitying a parricide because he’s an orphan.

If college admissions mean so much less now than they did a couple of decades ago,

professional school admissions must also mean much less now than they did a couple of decades ago.

    Isn’t that right, YLB?

“Between 2020 and 2025, the number of students whose math skills fall below high school level increased nearly thirtyfold; moreover, 70% of those students fall below middle school levels, reaching roughly one in twelve members of the entering cohort.”

“While Math 2 was designed in 2016 to remediate missing high school math knowledge, now most students had knowledge gaps that went back much further, to middle and even elementary school. To address the large number of underprepared students, the Mathematics Department redesigned Math 2 for Fall 2024 to focus entirely on elementary and middle school Common Core math subjects (grades 1-8), and introduced a new course, Math 3B, so as to cover missing high-school common core math subjects (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or Math I, II, III; grades 9-11).”

“Few, if any, students who place into Math 2 have successfully completed an engineering degree.”

“high school math grades are only very weakly linked to students’ actual math preparation.”

“The correlation between the average math grade and the placement result is only around 0.25 on a scale of 0 to 1. In 2024, over 25% of the students in Math 2 had a math grade average of 4.0.”

I wonder how the average accepted freshman at, say, Kentucky State University would do in this new remedial prep course.

2,000 federal agents deploying to Minneapolis in immigration crackdown, fraud probe

The Trump administration has begun a massive deployment of hundreds of Department of Homeland Security agents to the Twin Cities area as it escalates its federal crackdown amid a widening fraud scandal in Minnesota, multiple law enforcement officials familiar with the plan told CBS News.

The crackdown could involve roughly 2,000 agents and officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s deportation branch and Homeland Security Investigations, the agency’s investigative arm tasked with fighting transnational crimes, the officials said. They requested anonymity to discuss operations that have not been publicly announced.

The plan is for the agents and officers to oversee a 30-day surge in operations in the Twin Cities area, making the region the first major target of the Trump administration’s expanded immigration crackdown in the new year, officials said.
    …
The deployment, which began Sunday, represents one of the largest concentrations of DHS personnel in an American city in recent years. The move greatly expands the federal law enforcement footprint in Minnesota at a time of heightened political and community tension there.

Well, I suppose this Sunday action explains Walz’ Monday capitulation.

YLB, this is good news for you, because the feds will also be looking for evidence of the PPP fraud you are so concerned about, so keep your fingers crossed that the federal government will be able to claw back some of your kids’ tax dollars.

Say a terrible thing, then walk it back.
Wait a while, then say it again, but worse, and walk it back only part way.
Wait a little longer, then say it a third time, but so much worse, then walk it back only to the original terrible thing, which no longer seems anything like as bad, by comparison.
    Then do that thing.
    3) All the while the media somehow tries to spin it in his favor.
    4) We’ll see a story out of the NY Times in a few weeks with the headline “What it Would Take to Cancel the 2026 Midterms”
    5) Followed shortly by an Ezra Klein podcast that inexplicably lasts 90+ minutes titled:
How Democrats Can Benefit from Cancelling the Election
Alongside news articles that say “Dems allow Trump to cancel mid-term elections”.
We see a CBS News special: why the midterms need to be canceled.
“How Biden and Obama encouraged the cancelling of the mid-terms in fear of losing to Our Dear Leader Trump”
    6) Jake Tapper releasing a new book about how Biden’s mental decline led to Trump canceling elections
    7) The elections were cancelled but the Democrats face accusations of using divisive language and Schumer explaining how allowing it was actually a masterful gambit that he used to get important concessions like trump not executing democratic politicians
