  2. I have been for the idea of reactivating the Waterfront Streetcar in the past, but in as they say after a NFL Replay , upon further review,not so much. Still would like to see better transit for Colman Dock to accommodate more Walk on and POF Traffic, but I don’t want a route that goes in a roundabout way, or contributes to a T3 problem. Specifically serving Seattle Center. I would rather see the proposed line on 1st Ave resumed with a branch all the way to Seattle Center, specifically CPA. I doubt old Metro 99 could have served CPA. First a bridge over the BNSF Scenic Sub at Broad Street would be necessary, and I don’t know how steep the grade on Broad from Western to Denny. Seattles old network had some challenging unassisted grades like E Madison in Madison Valley-Madison Park, and Rt14 on Jackson Street, supposedly the portion the First Hill Streetcar on Jackson Street is 8-9%.

    Other reasons I am not sure about Councilmember Straus’s suggestion, is I want any restoration of the Waterfront line to be interlined with the existing system, and because the South Lake Union line saved money by piggybacking on a Portland order, we were stuck with Portland specs, specifically the voltage the motors draw. The Waterfront line definitely benefited from older is better, most old streetcar systems used 600V DC, which just happened to be what the trolleybus system used. Most new streetcar and LRT use 750V DC, and LINK is 1500V DC.

  27. Saw on a social media thread, an activist publication complaining about Sound Transit’s Stride Bus Rapid Transit system. Normally supportive, but their issue is Sound Transit is avoiding their traditional contractor, and using an outside group like MV Transportation. The action it’s just discovered a part of Sound Transit opponents and supporters alike never notice or don’t care. Except for the Tacoma light rail line, they don’t operate their own services. Been that way since the first buses ran in 98-99. Pierce Transit operates most ST Express routes out of Pierce County, Metro out of King County, and Community Transit the dwindling ST Express routes out of Snohomish County. Metro operates LINK 1 and 2 Lines, and BNSF SOUNDER.

    Don’t know if they still do, but the buses used to be coded for who operates them. Under the coach number, C was for Community Transit, K was for Metro, and P was for Pierce Transit. Community Transit subcontracted their ST Express Routes to the same company that operated their now discontinued Seattle commuter services. Always thought ST should avoid the middleman on that.

In addition, people who are absolutely broke, and have no income and have experienced loss of housing (because of loss of income, family abandonment, domestic violence, etc) can obtain short term SNAP assistance but only if they are absolutely without any other resources.. And even with those significant restrictions, still time limited to less than two years and typically to six months or less. For new applicants it’s typically 90 days.
