In today’s polarized political environment, that’s a perfect prescription for poor ratings. There is no middle, so trying to cater to it is a losing strategy.

    He should cut taxes AGAIN even more to stimulate the economy and let me keep more of MY FUCKING MONEY.

    Going to Iraq was the right thing to do, but it’s taking way to long. Tell the Iraqi’s they’re on their own now.

    We should tell the dems to go fuck themselves and start drilling in ANWR. Now.

    We should give massive tax breaks to oil companies to explore, build refineries, build pipelines, and develop new oil recovery methods.

    The prescription drug thing will bankrupt us. Cancel it.

    Shut down the department of Edjiumicashun. Eddicating our chirrens is a state thing. Feds have no legitimate role.

    On immigration, the policy should be “assimilate or get the fuck out.” H1B visas should be expanded by a factor of 10 to get more professionals in here to do the heavy lifting for Murka.

  48. It’s not even Memorial Day, and already the headlines are proclaiming loud and clear that gas prices are going up, up, up. They have indeed shot up in recent weeks, with the national average for the cheap stuff hovering around $2.99 a gallon. Oil is over $69 a barrel. So what should people make of this?

    Absolutely nothing. First of all, people should spend time complaining about things they can actually do something about. Second, the price of gasoline is artificially high. Not because oil companies are conspiring to jack up the price, but because government is doing everything in its power to keep the price of gas high.

    For instance, we could drill for more oil. More oil domestically produced would reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy. But the leftist enviro-crazies won’t allow that. Drilling in ANWR? Forget it. Then you have the issue of refining the oil into gasoline. Not one single refinery has been built in the last 30 years.

    The result: the refineries we do have are running at full capacity. They can’t produce enough gasoline to keep up with demand, so the price shoots up in the summer. It also doesn’t help that those refineries have to produce several different blends to appease the environmentalists around the country.

    Then there’s taxes. People don’t notice because it’s rolled into the price of a gallon of gas, but between federal, state and local taxes, the government is taking 40-50 cents a gallon. So just remember….as you fill up your SUV this summer and pay $3.50 a gallon, the silent hand of government is what is causing the price to be so high. No other reason.

If they’re talking about documents and memos as opposed to the Stephen Hadley email that Karl Rove wrote, in other words, if there are other emails or documents that would suggest that perhaps prosecutors have an even stronger case to suggest that Karl Rove didn’t have memory problems, he was willfully trying to avoid remembering certain things to the grand jury, but we’ll see pretty soon I think.

    Bush likes to talk about “cut and run” Democrats, but that’s merely an epithet he flings at his critics. Like most of what Republicans say, it fits on a bumper sticker, but isn’t a plan.

    You can’t win a war simply by saying you won’t “cut and run.” Merely mouthing the words doesn’t even guarantee HE won’t “cut and run.” After all, hardly any armies or commanders ever leave a battlefield voluntarily; they get thrown off.

    Sometimes the method of ejection is so subtle that the departure appears volitional. America left Vietnam and Russia left Afghanistan because of mounting casualties in face of tactical impasse. Though superficially voluntary, these withdrawals were imposed by opponents who denied the superpower armies a military victory while inflicting politically unsustainable costs. These “withdrawals” were defeats in every strategic sense of the word.

    How much bloodshed will it take for Iraqi insurgents to eject Americans from their country? The question is not really relevant to victory, because unless our forces utterly destroy the insurgents, they can win simply by continuing to inflict losses on the American forces. And if our military can’t destroy the insurgency, they can do that until the end of time.

    The trenchant question, therefore, is can the insurgency be destroyed? After 3 years of combat, the insurgency continues unabated, so it’s clear the job can’t be accomplished with the existing force level. Yet, Bush has explicitly rejected calls for more troops. Whether he intends to or not, this means he is not pursuing victory but simply a holding strategy.

    Avoiding defeat is not victory. It is merely bloody stalemate. And stalemate means you cannot achieve your war aims, you can only bleed, and bleed, and bleed.

    By the way, what ARE Bush’s war aims? Does he still have any? Iraq has no WMDs, Saddam is toppled, what is left in Iraq to fight for? Oh yeah, I almost forgot — OIL. The oil that was going to PAY for this war …

    In the end, Bush will cut and run. He has to, because he is not doing what is necessary to win. He will either cut and run from Iraq, or he will cut and run from the Oval Office to the seclusion of his gated Texas ranch, leaving it to his successor to figure a way out of what he got America into. Bush has already said he won’t finish the Iraq war, it will be up to his successor. Bush, the ultimate coward, does not have the guts to finish what he started.

It may be hard to believe from the vile nature of the threads, but yes, we have a commenting policy. Comments containing libel, copyright violations, spam, blatant sock puppetry, and deliberate off-topic trolling are all strictly prohibited, and may be deleted on an entirely arbitrary, sporadic, and selective basis. And repeat offenders may be banned! This is my blog. Life isn’t fair.
