The war in Iraq is now costing us $10 billion a month. Personally, I can think of better things to do with money… but what do I know?

Funny the trollfucks aren’t complaining about Bush spending $3,858 per SECOND on his Iraq war. But then, they aren’t paying TAXES for it, are they? They think it’s okay for Bush to spend enough money to buy a MILLION DOLLAR HOME every FOUR MINUTES as long as he’s putting it on a CREDIT CARD. Guess they figure they’ll never have to pay for it because the CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES* running this country plan to MAKE WAGE EARNERS PAY ALL THE TAXES by eliminating taxation of capital gains, investment income, and inheritances, all other other forms of unearned income.

Now You $ee It, Now You Don’t

Hey trollfucks! Betcha you didn’t know that only the RICH will get to keep their Bush tax cuts, and you wage slaves will get your Bush tax cuts AUTOMATICALLY REPEALED by the sneaky alternative minimum tax?!!

Well, read this — and weep!

“Although the IRS’s National Taxpayer Advocate reported earlier this month that the AMT was the most serious problem faced by taxpayers, President Bush’s 2004 State of the Union address did not mention the AMT … the tax cuts that he has championed threaten to double the number of AMT taxpayers … and the President advocates making those tax cuts permanent, which will significantly increase the number of families subject to the AMT over the long term.”

“By 2010, the AMT will affect 33 million taxpayers — about one-third of all tax returns — up from 1 million in 1999. This would make the AMT almost as common as the mortgage interest deduction is today. The AMT will be the de facto tax system for households with income between $100,000 and $500,000, 93 percent of whom will face the tax. It will encroach dramatically on the middle class, affecting 37 percent of households with income between $50,000 and $75,000 and 73 percent of households with income between $75,000 and $100,000 (compared to less than 3 percent for each group in 2002). The expansion occurs because the AMT is not indexed for inflation and because of the 2001 tax cut.”

    Roger:

Guess you weren’t paying attention the last time around (1980 to 1992). The whole idea of a Republican presidency is to spend so much money that no matter who follows them, the government is broke and will have to cut back. Reagan spent it on an incredibly foolish arms race with the Soviet Union. Out of sheer luck, they fell for it and bankrupted themselves. We managed to pull up just short and ended up with a national debt of trillions.

Bushie dreamed up a war in the Middle East. What a plan, the oil companies get record profits, Halliburton gets govt contracts with no audit oversight, and the US Govt is now so indebted they won’t be able to spend a nickel on any social program for 50 years. All it took was some clever marketing and a gullible polity. Worked like a charm.

Now if we can just make those tax cuts “permanent” for a few more years………………………………

After they are shot, gutted and marinated in their own blood, the rich will be tender and easily digested.

Of course I know their plan! Actually carrying it out is a little more complicated than your synopsis suggests, because they have to make sure the NEEDY and WORKING CLASS don’t get any of the public money they’re trying to burn! For explanation of why — and some of the strategies Republicans use — see this article about CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES:

    http://www.conceptualguerilla......php?id=103

The flaw in the GOP economic plan, though, is that it’s impossible to spend any government broke! A government can spend its people broke, but it can’t spend itself broke. All you have to do is keep printing money. The quantity of money you can print is infinite. Of course, this causes INFLATION and eventually wages, pensions, and financial investments become worth less, and ultimately they become WORTHLESS. But the government can go right on spending; all it has to do is print enough money so it can pay 10 TRILLION dollars for a toilet seat instead of 10 thousand dollars! You don’t even need a lot of paper and ink to do it — just print trillion-dollar bills and spend ’em like candy!

So, as you can see, Bush’s plan is doomed to fall apart. However, he is going to take your paycheck, your savings accounts, and your retirement funds and pension down with him.

Inflation is, after all, a TAX and we have plenty of inflation in the Bush economy. In case you haven’t noticed, gasoline has TRIPLED since Bush took office, and grocery prices have in some cases doubled and in most cases are up by double digits.

For example, a half-gallon of ice cream still costs $5.99 at QFC, but it’s not a half-gallon anymore, it’s 1.75 quarts — that’s a 14.2% price increase. TV dinners that used to cost $2.79 still cost $2.79, but now they weigh 8.5 oz. instead of 14 oz. — that’s a 64.7% price increase in just two years. A 24 oz. loaf of bread that used to cost $2.49 is now a 20 oz. loaf of bread that costs $3.29 — that’s a 68.2% price increase. And so on.

If you trollfucks think you’re not paying taxes for Bush’s reckless spending, you must be eating grass. Ptooie! I’d rather eat CARROTS!!!

@ 8 “Reagan spent it on an incredibly foolish arms race with the Soviet Union. Out of sheer luck, they fell for it and bankrupted themselves.”

Actually, Bin Laden and his supporters (CIA) can be thanked for bankrupting the Soviet Union. The endless war in Afghanistan (Supported by the CIA) played a large part in bankrupting the USSR.

That seemed a good idea at the time.

But now, we are being bankrupted by BushCo in Iraq.

    Recipe:

Take the fleshy upper arms of the Rich Person and wrap it in a 1040EZ form. Smoke it for 7 hours over a mesquite charcoal.

Then blanch it for 2 hours in boiling water.

Drain the liquid and place the meat in an oven for 2 hours per pound.

    Add your favorite dry rub.

Serve with a leafy side dish, and add “Conservative bow tie” pasta as a starch.

    Serves 12

    1. First, pluck off all the peacock feathers and other artificial plumage.

    2. Next, tenderize by beating the crap out of the meat with a ball peen hammer for 20 minutes.

    3. Soak overnight in goat piss. Do not refrigerate during this process.

    4. Boil until tough. This usually takes at least an hour.

    5. Freeze dry.

    6. Box it up, gift wrap it, label it “prime Angus beef,” and mail it to a really obnoxious Republican — e.g., Kevin Carns or Tom McCabe.

THINK INFLATION IS BAD NOW? YOU AIN’T SEEN NUTHIN YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

George W. Bush, the stupidest person ever to occupy the Oval Office, has gambled our futures on securing future oil supplies by force. Here’s what Newsweek writer Jane Bryant Quinn says about it:

“The U.S. lives in an energy trap. … We’re fed daily meals of imported oil, from countries we pay in IOUs and think we can push around. …

“For years to come, we’ll be in the hands of some of the most dysfunctional governments in the world. Oil prices will rise and economic growth will slow — not this year, but almost certainly a few years out. …

“What has changed in the world? We’re running out of the capacity to produce surpluses of oil. … That puts the oil-dependent countries in a serious bind. …

“Nobody really knows how much oil there is. … But clearly there’s not enough to cover long supply disruptions, and that puts future economic development at increasing risk. ‘Terrorists have identified oil as the Achilles’ heel of the West,’ says Gal Luft, head of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security. … In February, the Saudis foiled an attack on one of their major oil installations. Had it succeeded, it could have been an ‘energy Pearl Harbor,’ Luft says. …

“This throws our Iraq wars into a different light. To an extent that most Americans don’t yet understand, the U.S. military has become a ‘global oil-protection force,’ says Michael Klare, an expert on natural-resource wars and author of the book ‘Blood and Oil.’ …

“What does all this add up to? A future oil market drastically rationed by price. … On paper, we have alternatives, such as liquefied coal, oil sands from Canada and ethanol. But they’re not anywhere close to production on a massive scale.

“For a smooth transition, mega-energy projects need to get started at least 20 years before oil supplies decline, writes Robert Hirsch of the consulting firm SAIC in a study prepared for the U.S. Department of Energy. If we don’t get a running start on the problem, he says, ‘the economic consequences will be dire.’ We’re probably already behind. It takes leadership to address a potential crisis in advance.

“Unfortunately, we’re investing in war, not in crash projects to develop new energy sources. … We’re running a faith-based energy policy — still addicted to oil. If something goes wrong, it will go wrong big.”

  23. Roger Rabbit spews:

    Thursday, 4/20/06 at 12:37 am

To sum up, we need leadership in developing post-oil energy technologies and sources, but instead we’ve got an idiot resorting to military adventurism and relying on egotistical blind faith that God will make things go his way.

Instead of weaning us off oil, Bush is determined to make us more dependent than ever on oil.

And that, experts say, is asking for “dire economic consequences.”

Don’t take it for granted the American Dream — or even the American nation — will survive. Folly has finished off more than one civilization that was powerful in its day. Don’t kid yourself for one instant that our economy can’t collapse, and our military power along with it, if we make missteps.

We can’t afford George W. Bush. We can’t afford the GOP.

Now that Maria is as you claim , opposed to the war she has no reason to stand by her war party pals and bust the federal budget .
My guess is that our Senator Cantwell will debate of war tactics instead of withdrawal which is quite different than the status quo of setting up permanent or semi permanent air bases in Iraq . I hope she breaks with her DLC masters and votes against the continued funding of the massacre of Iraqi civilians and our troops . Senator Stop the War . It is not a question of the basic facts (massive spending, etc.). The question is one of causation.

I personally know people who were “high up” in the uprisings in Soviet-occupied countries. Reagan’s public stands (and private assurances through back channels) were a BIG reason why the people rose up against the Soviet Union. Do you think that the only things that happened were those reported by the NYT and CNN? Do you really think that these things sprung up overnight? The resistance movement started as soon as the Soviet occupation did. I’ve had family sent to Siberia (and, in one case, later “deported” to the US at the specific request of Nixon). I’ve known people who were grabbed off the street in WEST Germany and brought into EAST Germany by the KGB for “interrogation” in the 80’s. The plain and simple fact is that Republican presidents — and Reagan in particular — were FAR more supportive of the occupied countries (both in public and private) than any Dems were.

Don’t lecture me on the resistance to the Soviet occupation. Quit getting your history texts at Left Bank Books.

    Mark
Your obsession with an automobile accident in which a child suffered an injury is most curious. I can’t imagine any voter believing involvement in an automobile accident bears any relationship to a person’s competency to serve in Congress. Ms. Burner, at most, acted negligently, not intentionally. The definition of negligence is the failure to act with ordinary care. That standard does not rise to the level of a moral failing; it simply means that someone fucked up. Talking on a cell phone or changing radio stations while driving often lead to accidents. Does that mean the negligent party is an immoral person not worthy of holding public office? Laura Bush killed a teenager while driving. Should her driving privileges have been forfeited for life as a result? I don’t think so. You are not a careful thinker on this issue.

  73. (The Real) Mark spews:

    Leftist @ 71

I actually don’t think it impacts her ability to govern unless it is part of a pattern of negligence — or even “ditziness.”

The point of my hammering on the issue is that “dlaw” has spend megabytes minimizing the accident as “just a traffic ticket.” The fact is that she caused it, it involved four cars (not just her and a light pole), and a small child sustained a neck injury as a result.

I do think that there is some question as to whether justice was served, but it may not be a political back room deal. About 25 years ago, I was in traffic court with my father. He got a ticket for something like “15 over.” Despite his 20+ year perfect driving record, the best he got was a reduction to “<10 over” (or something like that). Immediately after him came a young lady who was not only speeding, but hit a parked car and then bounced her car into a nearby police car. I kid you not when I say that she got let off with a warning.

Maybe there was a deal… maybe it was just a gender thing (or batting-of-doe-eyes). The fact remains that she caused an accident and child got hurt and it should NOT be dismissed as “just a traffic ticket.”

I, too, hope that the current folks in power — especially those behind the scenes — are replaced. Unfortunately, I fear that the Dems have nothing better to offer — just a different brand of (better-hidden) corruption & mismanagement.

Those who toe the party line on either end of the spectrum criticize moderates as having no convictions (though both sides’ extremes are good at “convictions” of another kind). However, the “Middle Majority” probably makes up 60% of the electorate. Clinton was the Left’s offering to that group. “W” pretended to be a “uniter.” Now, I’d like to see if the Right can offer up a real moderate.

“When righties say they don’t want welfare or programs, what they’re really saying is they don’t want welfare or programs that don’t benefit them and their ilk. Commentby LeftTurn— 4/20/06@ 6:20 am”

What the CHEAP LABOR CONSERVATIVES really want is lots and lots of poor, desperate workers who will labor in appalling and unsafe conditions for next to nothing. They see things like food stamps and Medicaid as undermining their intended victims’ “incentive to work.” To wit:

“Cheap-labor conservatives don’t like social spending or our ‘safety net’. Why. Because when you’re unemployed and desperate, corporations can pay you whatever they feel like – which is inevitably next to nothing. You see, they want you ‘over a barrel’ and in a position to ‘work cheap or starve’.

“Cheap-labor conservatives don’t like the minimum wage, or other improvements in wages and working conditions. Why. These reforms undo all of their efforts to keep you ‘over a barrel’. …

“Cheap-labor conservatives constantly bray about ‘morality’, ‘virtue’, ‘respect for authority’, ‘hard work’ and other ‘values’. Why. So they can blame your being ‘over a barrel’ on your own ‘immorality’, lack of ‘values’ and ‘poor choices’. …

“Cheap-labor conservatives opposed virtually all of the New Deal, including every improvement in wages and working conditions.

“Cheap-labor conservatives have hated Social Security and Medicare since their inception.

“The ugly truth is that cheap-labor conservatives just don’t like working people. They don’t like ‘bottom up’ prosperity, and the reason for it is very simple. Lords have a harder time kicking them around. Once you understand this about the cheap-labor conservatives, the real motivation for their policies makes perfect sense. Remember, cheap-labor conservatives believe in social hierarchy and privilege, so the only prosperity they want is limited to them. They want to see absolutely nothing that benefits the guy – or more often the woman – who works for an hourly wage.”
