  5. Momentum Continuing to Build for McGavick Campaign

    April 17, 2006
    Seattle – In U.S. Senate candidate Mike McGavick’s strongest fundraising quarter to date, the campaign announced today that it had raised nearly $3 million as of April 17. The campaign raised over $1.2 million in the first quarter of 2006, surpassing the previous quarters.

    McGavick’s donations have come from a wide base of Washingtonian support with nearly 90% of donations coming from individuals and roughly 77% of donations coming from within Washington State.

    “As I travel the state, the energy is overwhelming and I’m honored by our growing support,” Mike said. “The message from Washingtonians is clear: their problems are not being solved, and they are tired of Senators who only look out for themselves. Together, by changing this state’s leadership and adding a true voice of Northwestern common sense to the Capitol, we’re going to get the Senate back on track.”

    McGavick’s first-quarter fundraising success follows the release of recent independent polling showing building momentum as Mike closes the distance between himself and Sen. Maria Cantwell. A recent Rasmussen Report poll shows Mike making consistent gains while Sen. Cantwell continues to poll below 50%. The Rasmussen poll showed Cantwell at 48% to Mike’s 40%.

    “The new poll is the third in a row in which the incumbent has lost a percentage point of support. And it’s the second poll in a row showing her at less than 50% support,” the Rasmussen Report said. Further, the Rasmussen analysis shows that Mike’s approval ratings continue to climb. “McGavick is viewed favorably by 49%, unfavorably by 33%. That’s a big improvement over a month ago when the numbers were 37% favorable and 32% unfavorable,” Rasmussen reported.

    “With another great quarter of fundraising behind us, we’ve got everything heading in the right direction toward victory in November,” McGavick said.
