The US Senate narrowly passed a budget bill last night that included funding for drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge… and personally, I blame Mike McGavick. I mean… the guy claims he can make Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens pull bills, so certainly, he could have used his super-human powers on ANWR. But he didn’t. What a disappointment.

Yippee – we can have another love fest in the media when Maria is let loose on a tirade against ANWR! The pictures will show a defiant senator standing up against the evil-doers who would sully nature and defile the environment!

And the posters here will be thrilled and cheer! Maria is wonderful! Our next best hope!

Too bad she hasn’t done a darn thing otherwise. She is quite the useful idiot of the dem leadership.

What would you rather have, Janet S, Maria Cantwell grandstanding about ANWR, or another Republican Senator that will help Bush raise our debt limit beyond 9 TRILLION dollars?

The debt limit has been raised 5 times on Bush’s watch by 3 TRILLION dollars.

If conservatives had any real love for America, they would recognize and admit that the Bush Republican’s irresponsible fiscal polices can do more harm to our collective national security interests than the terrorists could ever hope to accomplish.

    You Dopes.

    Janet S,
Unlike you, Maria Cantwell is capable of rational cognition. Unlike you, she is capable of more than simply parroting partisan pap. She is thoughtful and concerned for her constituents. You are a lapdog. There is a sad irony in your calling her an “idiot.” You folks on the right should be happy that Maria’s this state’s senator. She’s as conservative as a senator in this state can be.

Here’s a new subject in the news recently:

I’ve been hearing a lot about the WASL test, and here’s my solution to the debate: make the test voluntary. Let the kids that want to take the WASL do so, and those that don’t can choose not to take it. All kids that successfully complete the required course work would still get their diplomas, as before. The only difference is for the kids that pass the WASL: their diplomas would indicate they had successfully mastered the test. This is win-win alternative because it gives people choice – take the test or not.

Production requires three things: Capital, materials, and labor. Conservatives are all about capital getting more than its fair share of the revenue, and materials and labor getting less. That’s Republicanism in a nutshell.

  52. Roger Rabbit spews:

    Friday, 3/17/06 at 1:51 pm

Of course, part of their plan to reduce the cost of materials is to shift as much of that cost to the public as possible. For example, taking oil or coal from public lands for minisucle royalties, and leaving behind an expensive mess to be cleaned up at taxpayer expense. And then shifting the tax burden from the owners of capital to wage earners.

You failed to address my point. I’m not sure how I’m “changing the subject” on an open thread where much of the criticism of McGavick has been that he made $14 million when leaving as CEO of Safeco. Corzine was ousted from Goldman Sachs, in early 1999, just prior to the IPO and recieved nearly 30 times (non-inflation adjusted) as much money as McGavick received when voluntarily leaving Safeco. Corzine used over $62 million of that windfall to win the race for U.S. Senate in New Jersey in 2000. Yet, he gets a pass from the same demagoguing lefties trying to paint McGavick as a “crooked CEO”. Quite frankly I don’t see either of them as crooked. Goldman Sachs was quite successful during most of the time Corzine was CEO. As was Safeco under McGavick. Do both of them “deserve” the compensation they recieved? That’s up to the owners of their respective companies to decide.

Every month, I hand over 1/3 of my pension check to an employer for COBRA health benefits. Makes no difference. When I tried to pick up a prescription refill today, I found out they canceled my health insurance on January 1 anyway. Yes, they cashed my checks.

This isn’t the first time this has happened. It isn’t even the second time it has happened. It’s the third time it has happened in less than a year.

I have to be honest with you — I like Castro’s health insurance system better than ours. I might even be willing to accept some of the human rights violations that come with it.

What you have to believe to be a Republican these days:

Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush’s daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a “we can’t find Bin Laden” diversion.

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq, Iran, and Syria.

A woman can’t be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all humanity with no regulation whatsoever.

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans’ benefits and combat pay.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won’t have sex.

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism.

HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

Global warming and tobacco’s link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the
Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

The public has a right to know about Hillary’s cattle trades, but George Bush’s driving record is none of our business.

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you’re a conservative radio host. Then it’s an illness and you need and deserve our prayers for your recovery.

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the ’80s is irrelevant.

Janet S. This from Maria Cantwell’s office

“Once again, we have to take emergency action to try and stop the Bush Administration from opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. Once again, I need you to stand with me. The vote that decides the future for the Arctic Refuge is TONIGHT.

Tell the Senate to Protect the Arctic Refuge : vote NO on the budget tonight.

Last time the Republicans tried to attach drilling provisions to the defense spending bill. This time they are trying to open the Arctic Refuge to drilling by using the budget process. They want this so badly that they will do anything it takes to win. So they use loopholes and backroom tactics to try and force their drilling plan through.

If we pass the budget tonight, we also allow for drilling in the Arctic Refuge. A vote for the budget is a vote for drilling.

Therefore, I ask you to help me convince my colleagues: vote NO on the budget tonight. Vote NO until the provision allowing drilling is removed.

This single issue highlights how bad this administration is on the environment, how they have no plan for real energy independence, how they put short term gain over long term growth, and how they will do anything to win.

Just like on the Roadless Area Conservation Act, which 58,000 of you have now co-sponsored, I need you to make your voice heard. The Senators still sitting on the fence for this critical vote are indeed listening.

Tell the Senate: vote NO on the budget until the provision allowing drilling is removed.

A victory today will be hard-fought – they are lining up impressive roadblocks in a last ditch effort to get this through. But we will certainly lose if we don’t even try. So please join me now.

Thank you, once again, for your support.

    Sincerely,

    Maria Cantwell

I signed and supported this No petition on the budget that is tied to Arctic drilling. Now Janet S tell us what you have done today to try to stop Arctic drilling to protect the environment? Nothing! Maria Cantwell is fighting to protect the Arctic refuge.

Seattle Monorail Authority is gonna meet next week sometime to consider car tab rates and when they should be eliminated to pay off the debts on their foolish and illfated boondoggle.

But why drop the tax at all? Why not leave it right where it is? Seattle gummint could really do a lot of “good” with that money. Here are a few ideas:

You could attract more drunks and homeless people to live in car tab funded sheleters.

They could drink better quality booze.

The money could be given to single mothers to encourage more indiscriminant breeding.

It could be used to subsidize my brilliant “Adopt-A-Looter” program for Katrina “victims”.

It could perpetuate the failures of the worst school district in the state.

As belltowner points out above, it could be given to billionaires like Gates and Allen so they could become even more wealthy.

So can you moonbats come up with more “progressive” ideas similar to mine above?

Do any of you plan to attend the SMA meeting to demand that the tax stay on? After all, don’t you all believe that you really can tax yourselves into prosperity?

    Let me know…

It was consensual. Sex is a private matter but Republicans like to make sex a public affair. You cannot defend Bush’s failures at president so you have to revert to pointing to Bill Clinton and the Monica affair. Why is that?

THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WAS WARNED ABOUT A MASSIVE TERROR PLOT IN THE MONTHS BEFORE SEPTEMBER 2001 BY THE SECURITY SERVICES
OF SEVERAL COUNTRIES, INCLUDING ISRAEL, EGYPT, GERMANY AND RUSSIA. CIA DIRECTOR, GEORGE TENET DELIVERED A SPECIFIC BRIEFING
ON THE MATTER TO THE ADMINISTRATION ON AUGUST 8, 2001. THE MASSIVE COMPENDIUM OF DATA ON OSAMA BIN LADEN AND AL Qaeda
COMPILED BY SANDY BERGER, AND, DELIVERED TO CONDOLEEZZA RICE. UPON HIS DEPARTURE, THE BRIEFING WENT COMPLETELY AND ADMITTEDLY UNREAD UNTIL THE ATTACKS TOOK PLACE. THE ATTACKS THEMSELVES MANAGED, FOR OVER AN HOUR, TO PIERCE THE MOST FORMIDABLE AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM IN THE HISTORY OF THE EARTH WITHOUT A SINGLE FIGHTER AIRCRAFT TAKING WING UNTIL THE CATASTROPHE WAS CONCLUDED. WHY WAS THAT? BECAUSE BUSH WAS READING MY PET GOAT IN A CLASS ROOM AND HE COULDN’T EXCUSE HIMSELF TO CALL THE PENTAGON AND ORDER FIGHTER JETS TO TAKE TO THE AIR?

WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT IN HISTORY A BLOW JOB OR FAILURE TO TAKE COMMAND OF THE AIR DEFENSE TO PREVENT AND PROTECT AMERICA FROM AN ATTACK?

CBS News conducts a poll that shows President Bush’s approval rating at an all-time low of 34%. That high? :))

March 17, 2006 — Federal drug enforcement agents in Northern California shut down an elaborate “marijuana candy” factory that produced drug-laced snacks called Rasta Reece’s, Pot Tarts, and other parodies of popular products.

Authorities raided five locations Thursday, arresting 12 people for allegedly running the criminal enterprise.

Police say the group produced candy and soda that looked like popular treats but were laced with pot. AGENTS SEIZED BOXES OF ‘TREATS’ WITH NAMES LIKE BUDDAHFINGERS, MUNCHY WAY,RASTA REECES, POT TARTS AND PUFF-A-MINT PATTIE. :)

Drug Enforcement Administration agents said the sophisticated operation, which called itself Beyond Bomb, cultivated thousands of plants in warehouses with factorylike precision. Employees in one location wore white doctors’ gowns and punched time clocks when they came to work, said officials.

One of the buildings that was raided in Oakland is associated with the Compassionate Caregivers Club, a medical marijuana dispensary, authorities said.

Between 4,000 and 5,000 marijuana plants, $100,000 in cash, three weapons and hundreds of marijuana-laced candies and soft drinks were seized in the raids. :(

OLYMPIA — A Snohomish County judge struck down a key package of tax increases on liquor and cigarettes Friday, agreeing that lawmakers illegally bypassed voter-approved spending limits to enact the new fees.
The judgment, issued by Superior Court Judge James Allendoerfer in Everett, invalidated an omnibus tax plan that Democratic lawmakers used to balance the two-year state budget during the 2005 session.

Another mans point of view in Iraq. Different than that of Dr. E and his brothers at Evergreen College.

    http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/.....her18.html

Why did he do it? The wiry lean Georgian, an easy-talking man with a boyish, sunburned face, tried to answer the question that won’t go away.
“It’s a lot of things combined,” he said. “One, a sense of duty. I was pissed off at the terrorists for 9/11 and other atrocities. Second, I’d only trained. I wanted combat.” And then, he said, “There’s some revenge involved. I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t.”
But there was more on the mind of this man who has done Church of God missionary work as far afield as Peru and the Arctic.
“I don’t really have love for Muslim people,” Johnson said. “I’m sure there are good Muslims. I try not to be racist.” Although he hasn’t read the Quran, or spoken with Muslims, he has “heard” the Islamic holy book “teaches to kill Jews and infidels. And it’s hard to love people who hate you.”
He could love Iraqi children, though, and said he’d hoped “to see them grow up to know right and wrong.”

    Published: March 18, 2006
In the summer of 2004, a group of former detainees of Abu Ghraib prison filed a lawsuit claiming that they had been the victims of the abuse captured in photographs that incited outrage around the world. One, Ali Shalal Qaissi, soon emerged as their chief representative, appearing in publications and on television in several countries to detail his suffering. His prominence made sense, because he claimed to be the man in the photograph that had become the international icon of the Abu Ghraib scandal: standing on a cardboard box, hooded, with wires attached to his outstretched arms. He had even emblazoned the silhouette of that image on business cards. The trouble was, the man in the photograph was not Mr. Qaissi. Military investigators had identified the man on the box as a different detainee who had described the episode in a sworn statement immediately after the photographs were discovered in January 2004, but then the man seemed to go silent

The revelation that President Bush argued he has the authority to storm into our most private and protected environments–and to seize what he wants–is nothing short of breathtakingly shocking. What if those brave dissenters and protectors of the Constitution did not speak up and challenge his theory? What if they were Rubber-Stamp Republicans instead of pillars of conscience? We would be sitting here today, unaware that the President redlined the entire Fourth Amendment out of the Constitution.

In Louisiana, Graft Inquiries Are Increasing
    By LESLIE EATON
    Published: March 18, 2006
KENNER, La. — Long before this suburb west of New Orleans was shaken by Hurricane Katrina, it was notorious for its fierce political infighting, for name-calling and mudslinging, for charges and countercharges of cronyism and corruption.
But accusations about matters like ticket-fixing are one thing, and allegations involving millions of federal dollars for storm recovery are quite another.
In February, federal prosecutors in New Orleans began bringing witnesses before a grand jury looking into possible fraud in Kenner municipal contracts that were awarded immediately before and after the hurricane. The mayor and the entire City Council have been subpoenaed to testify, although the government has not made clear its target.
Growing numbers of subpoenas may soon be issued across Louisiana, where local politics remains a blood sport and corruption has been a bad habit. That combination has become far more volatile with the addition of millions of dollars in aid beginning to flow from Washington and an army of auditors, investigators and prosecutors determined to make sure that the money is properly spent.

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush’s daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a “we can’t find Bin Laden” diversion. = Yes, we used Saddam starting with Carter when we were trying to figure out what to do with the hostage crisis. Did you see the 444 Days Documentary on the History Channel? Probably not. You were watching The Moonbat Show!

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony. = Sphere of influence doctrine. Cuba is still formenting and spreading Communism. I present to you Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq, Iran, and Syria. = I agree with you. 3rd rate dictators are running the show. Kofi Annan and his son are crooks. They take bribes. But John Bolton is scaring the crap out of the terrorists. Have you seen the Al Jazeera comments against him? Of course not. It isn’t written in Daily Kos or Media Matters so why check it out. He must be doing something right moonbats.

A woman can’t be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all humanity with no regulation whatsoever. = I disagree. I have publically stated that we must allow donk women to cull their herd. Besides, the babies born to donk women will be welfare recipients, or involved in low paying jobs we need to give to the Mexicans!

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans’ benefits and combat pay. = I concur with the real premise. We need to pay our military well.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won’t have sex. = No you teach in school sex B4 marriage is not kool! Just present Donnageddon and Rujax as examples to kids.

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money. = Isn’t that what Carter and Clinton do? If you are talking about the Rumsfeld comment, take a step back. What are the Europeans now doing. Securing their own borders and having new immigrants take socialization. Denmark and The Netherlands have them in place. Read Nutburger FTC. http://www.ercomer.org/publish.....gering.pdf Interesting point – Immigrants need to take 600 hours of Dutch but most don’t.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. – The premise is to woo them over to demoacracy adn their oil money would pay their bills. This is what Khomeini promised when he took over Iran, you jackass. But he didn’t deliver and it was forgotten when the students took over the embassy!

HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart. = Another one I agree with you on. But, what kind of care will you receive in certain public hospitals w/o some type of insurance. Visit any public hospital sometime. Watch the poor who arrive there. You’ll see.

Global warming and tobacco’s link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools. = Who said tobacco’s link to cancer is bunkum? God predicted global warming in Revelation. Have you read the Bible lately FTC. Or does you hands overheat from the flames of Hell the Bible project to you of your final resting place?

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy. = Let’s see what these newly released Iraqi documents say. If this first release has Saddam intelligence working with AL Q inside Iraq as reported hm…? This would blow apart the 9/11 Commission and cause Donnageddon to cry some more in his beer in Baring.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the
Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet. = Why didn’t you include abortions too JACKASS FTC. Oh, because you would have to be honest for a change.

The public has a right to know about Hillary’s cattle trades, but George Bush’s driving record is none of our business. = Huh? relevance?

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you’re a conservative radio host. Then it’s an illness and you need and deserve our prayers for your recovery. = Did Rush sell them to others? Why was he taking Oxycontin? For a medical condition that had no cure? He lost his hearing JACKASS. Ever played deaf bozo?

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the ’80s is irrelevant. = No it’s how CBS and Dan Rather did their investigation. If it was done right I have no problem. But it wasn’t, CBS had no fall back position and Dan shit his pants!

FTC and Other Libruls: Let me postulate this to you.

Since 1973, we have culled approximately 1 million babies per year from the US population. I have seen estimates all the way past 50 million because those culled in 1973 and beyond to 1986 would now be popping them out.

Now the baby boomers are arriving at retirement age. America will be hard presssed to supply Social Security (Nancy Pelosi said ” There’s no problem”). Well I know why she says this. Read on.

The Moonbats want illegal immigrants to come to America in droves. I believe there are way more than 11 million bantied about. How about 20 to 25 million? Now if we get them to pay their taxes by giving them work permits to pay taxes, Nancy Pelosi’s prediction to predilection rings true!

The Republicans have no back bone. As soon as they start saying we have to close the borders the Democrats start the racism charge. Why is that? Because if they told the real story Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership would have to admit that abortion is forcing them to have open borders and the riff-raff from Mexico is coming to your town soon. Just ask some Texas, New Mexico and Arizona fathers who had their daughters raped and some killed by illegal Mexican immigrants. Oh you didn’t see this in Media Matters and Daily Kos? You libruls need to get out more. Google it, “more hispanics than blacks” like the
    “Netherland socialization classes for immigrants”

Did you know Denmark is creating immigrant free schools? What Daily Kos didn’t tell this to you. Yet Rumsfeld told it like it is. The Old World was falling apart. But after the killing of Theo Van Gogh, they are waking up. But Chirac of France is so funny. His country has so many immigrants, anything he does is like stepping in shit!
Republicans are afraid to stand up and explain to the American public the real problem of unchecked illegal immigration. Do you know back in 2000. From the Census Bureau: “The Census Bureau released estimates Tuesday January 21, 2003 showing the Hispanic population rose 4.7 percent between April 2000 and July 2001, from 35.3 million to 37 million. During the same period, the non-Hispanic black population rose about 2 percent, from 35.5 million to 36.1 million.”

Now where did they come from? From the Census Bureau: “Due to high birth and immigration rates, the Hispanic population more than doubled during the 1990s, the 2000 census found. Many new arrivals were drawn by the booming U.S. economy and settled in areas in the South and Midwest that previously attracted few Latinos.”

    The Prosecution Rests!

The man smiled. “No understand,” he replied. “No English. Thank you. Goodbye.”
Was it something I said? Maybe my impolite mention of Palestinian martyrs? Then again, how could I not mention them?
After all, this barrier, although built by Mr. Sharon, was birthed by “shaheeds,” suicide bombers whom Palestinian leaders have glorified as martyrs. Qassam missiles can kill two or three people at a time. Suicide bombers lay waste to many more. Since the barrier went up, suicide attacks have plunged, which means innocent Arab lives have been spared along with Jewish ones. Does a concrete effort to save civilian lives justify the hardship posed by this structure? The humanitarian in me bristles, but ultimately answers yes.
That’s not to deny or even diminish Arab pain. I had to twist myself like an amateur gymnast when I helped a Palestinian woman carry her grocery bags through a gap in the wall (such gaps, closely watched by Israeli soldiers, do exist). It made me wonder how much more difficult the obstacle course must be for people twice my age, who must travel to one of the wider official checkpoints nearby.
Like all Muslims, I look forward to the day when neither the jeep nor the wall is in Abu Dis. So will we tell the self-appointed martyrs of Islam that the people — not just Arabs, but Arabs and Jews — “are one”? That before the barrier, there was the bomber? And that the barrier can be dismantled, but the bomber’s victims are gone forever?

It may be hard to believe from the vile nature of the threads, but yes, we have a commenting policy. Comments containing libel, copyright violations, spam, blatant sock puppetry, and deliberate off-topic trolling are all strictly prohibited, and may be deleted on an entirely arbitrary, sporadic, and selective basis. And repeat offenders may be banned! This is my blog. Life isn’t fair.
