Santelli was against the rush to pass the bill. I don’t recall anything where Santelli was saying that the bailout shouldn’t happen or that the amounts were too large. In fact, in the video, Santelli says, “I’m not making a judgement call either way.”
I did some poking around to find anything by Santelli that could be reasonably interpreted to mean that he thought TARP shouldn’t have been done at all, but didn’t find anything. If you have a source for your claim, that’d be greatly appreciated.

1) The Bush tax cuts overwhelmingly favored the rich.
2) The rich generally have a much higher marginal propensity to save than do the poor or middle income subsets of the population.
3) Rational expectations says that the marginal propensity to save of higher income groups during the years following September 11, 2001 would be even higher than the norm.
4) The rich overwhelmingly save via institutional investors. The exception would be the higher 1%-2% of the very rich who would save via hedge funds.
5) Institutional investors and hedge funds accounted for a large portion of the demand for mortgage-backed securities.
No one has contested any of those statements. The only open question is the extent of the influence that the savings of the rich had on the overall demand for mortgage-backed securities, and, in this, the best that any of my critics has ever been able to say is that I made some errors in estimates that I attributed to the CBO. (It’s worth noting that my critics haven’t even bothered to recognize the distinction between a “citation” and an “attribution”.)
None of them have even bothered to quantify the extent of my error, let alone try to show that my error was any larger or more significant than the normal amount of error that is inherent in any estimate of this nature.
This, then, is the basis that my critics use in discussion of the Don Joe test of critical thinking. In short, my critics fail even a rudimentary test of critical thinking, preferring to throw worthless smoke bombs rather than deal with the true crux of my argument.
