We made Tom Douglas’ corn bread pudding from Etta’s served with salmon. Strong recommendation for the corn bread pudding. Amazing. Here it is:

Also smoke roasted five spice carrots, smoked turkey breast and dirty sprouts. Big ups for the carrots and the corn bread pudding because they can be made ahead and they are just as good reheated. Thank you to HA and of all of y’all.

There’s a place called Orlando’s BBQ in Oak Harbor. Next year that’s where we’re getting our turkey. They smoked 100 turkeys (11-14#) this year and their FB photo of the laden smoker is tantalizing.

Turkey this year was very nice. Usual sides, and 2001 Dunn Vineyards Cab Sauv. The apple pie intended for dessert became a sort of Joe’s Scramble after the pup decided to help himself to the raw pie my wife had made when we went down to feed the horses. Cost him two hours in dog jail. Pretty sure he thinks it was worth it.

I bet Rosenbaum and Huber don’t.

It wouldn’t be TG if I didn’t force y’all to scroll past the annual WSJ TG op-ed pieces printed every year on this day.

    The Desolate Wilderness

“Here beginneth the chronicle of those memorable circumstances of the year 1620, as recorded by Nathaniel Morton, keeper of the records of Plymouth Colony, based on the account of William Bradford, sometime governor thereof. So they left that goodly and pleasant city of Leyden, which had been their resting-place for above eleven years, but they knew that they were pilgrims and strangers here below, and looked not much on these things, but lifted up their eyes to Heaven, their dearest country, where God hath prepared for them a city and therein quieted their spirits.” “When they came to Delfs-Haven they found the ship and all things ready, and such of their friends as could not come with them followed after them, and sundry came from Amsterdam to see them ship, and to take their leaves of them. One night was spent with little sleep with the most, but with friendly entertainment and Christian discourse, and other real expressions of true Christian love.” “The next day they went on board, and their friends with them, where truly doleful was the sight of that sad and mournful parting, to hear what sighs and sobs and prayers did sound amongst them. What tears did gush from every eye, and pithy speeches pierced each other’s heart, that sundry of the Dutch strangers that stood on the Key as spectators could not refrain from tears. But the tide which stays for no man, calling them away, that were thus loath to depart, their Reverend Pastor, falling down on his knees, and they all with him, with watery cheeks commended them with the most fervent prayers unto the Lord and His blessing, and then with mutual embraces and many tears they took their leaves one of another, which proved to be the last leave to many of them.” “Being now passed the vast ocean, and a sea of troubles before them in expectations, they had now no friends to welcome them, no inns to entertain them or refresh them, no houses, or much less towns, to repair unto to seek for succor. And for the season it was winter, and they that know the winters of the country know them to be sharp and violent, subject to cruel and fierce storms, dangerous to travel to known places, much more to search unknown coasts.” “Besides, what could they see but a hideous and desolate wilderness, full of wild beasts and wild men? And what multitudes of them there were, they then knew not. For which way soever they turned their eyes, they could have but little solace or content in respect of any outward object. For summer being ended, all things stand in appearance with a weather beaten face, and the whole country, full of woods and thickets, represented a wild and savage hew. If they looked behind them, there was a mighty ocean which they had passed, and was now as a main bar or gulf to separate them from all the civil parts of the world.”

    And The Fair Land

“Anyone whose labors take him into the far reaches of the country, as ours lately have done, is bound to mark how the years have made the land grow fruitful. This is indeed a big country, a rich country, in a way no array of figures can measure and so in a way past belief of those who have not seen it. Even those who journey through its Northeastern complex, into the Southern lands, across the central plains and to its Western slopes can only glimpse a measure of the bounty of America.” “And a traveler cannot but be struck on his journey by the thought that this country, one day, can be even greater. America, though many know it not, is one of the great underdeveloped countries of the world. What it reaches for exceeds by far what it has grasped.” “So the visitor returns thankful for much of what he has seen, and, in spite of everything, an optimist about what his country might be. Yet the visitor, if he is to make an honest report, must also note the air of unease that hangs everywhere.” “For the traveler, as travelers have always been, is as much questioned as questioning. And for all the abundance he sees, he finds the questions put to him ask, where men may repair for succor from the troubles that beset them.” “His countrymen cannot forget the savage face of war. Too often they have been asked to fight in strange and distant places, for no clear purpose they could see and for no accomplishment they can measure. Their spirits are not quieted by the thought that the good and pleasant bounty that surrounds them can be destroyed in an instant by a single bomb. Yet they find no escape, for their survival and comfort now depend on unpredictable strangers in far off corners of the globe.” “How can they turn from melancholy when at home they see young arrayed against old, black against white, neighbor against neighbor, so that they stand in peril of social discord. Or not despair when they see that the cities and countryside are in need of repair, yet find themselves threatened by scarcities of the resources that sustain their way of life. Or when, in the face of these challenges, they turn for leadership to men in high places, only to find those men as frail as any others.” “So sometimes the traveler is asked whence will come their succor. What is to preserve their abundance, or even their civility? How can they pass on to their children a nation as strong and free as the one they inherited from their forefathers? How is their country to endure these cruel storms that beset it from without and from within?” “Of course the stranger cannot quiet their spirits. For it is true that everywhere men turn their eyes today much of the world has a truly wild and savage hue. No man, if he be truthful, can say that the specter of war is banished. Nor can he say that when men or communities are put upon their own resources they are sure of solace, nor be sure that men of diverse kinds and diverse views can live peaceably together in a time of troubles.” “But we can all remind ourselves that the richness of this country was not born in the resources of the earth, though they be plentiful, but in the men and women that took its measure. For that reminder it’s everywhere. In the cities, towns, farms, roads, factories, homes, hospitals, and schools that spread everywhere over that wilderness.” “We can remind ourselves that for all our social discord we yet remain the longest enduring society of free men governing themselves without benefit of kings or dictators. Being so, we are the marvel and the mystery of the world, for that enduring liberty is no less a blessing than the abundance of the earth.” “And we might remind ourselves also, that if those men setting out from Delfs-haven had been daunted by the troubles they saw around them, then we could not this year be thankful for a fair land.”

May y’all survive The Wuhan and live to see Thanksgiving next year, at which time no doubt y’all gonna still be claimin’ that the 60 seat House flip and the 5 seat Senate flip were because First Vegetable Joe Biden was not sufficiently hard on people who believe in personal responsibility.

These power players wish to take this opportunity, On This Day, to give thanks for the existence of YLB’s kids, and the other poor fucks like ’em.

’cause it’s her kids whose tax dollars in future years are gonna cover the dollars lost with the repeal of the SALT limitation. This $87 billion annual tax savings will go overwhelmingly to people like those featured in this piece:

Wealth growth drives luxury real estate’s power players
New report looks at new set of luxury buyers emerging

The population of exceedingly high-net-worth individuals (i.e., people worth more than $5 million) increased upwards of 17% between 2019 to 2021 in the United States alone. In fact, of the $3.6 trillion in overall real estate wealth in 2021, the report says, “about 47% of people have a net worth of $5 million to $10 million.” This means about 33% of their asset portfolio is invested in real estate, representing $1.7 trillion in real estate wealth. Furthermore, the $1 million to $5 million price segment saw double- and triple-digit percentage gains.

“We found that this demographic is having the most influence on luxury real estate,” Altneu says. “The numbers are astounding. Nearly three times as many individuals within this demographic own real estate in the $1 million to $5 million range compared to 2019, [which represents] a 180% increase of luxury property ownership in a three-year period. We’ve seen many luxury home buyers flock to secondary markets, the suburbs and smaller towns. We predict demand will continue in these areas, but we’re also seeing the return of buyers to major urban cores, such as New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.”

It’s a good thing that Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit won’t ever make it to millionaire. ’cause if he ever did, he’d have to start lying that he’s an exceedingly high-net-worth individual instead. Not even The Even Bigger Fucking Moron is gullible enough to buy that.

    @15 Dumbfucks glorify violence.

The law is more complicated. This was a domestic:

“In the affidavit, according to the newspaper, Anne-Marie Carruth wrote she was ‘notified that my husband, William Kyle Carruth, is under investigation for the shooting and killing of his girlfriend’s children’s father after he attempted to pick up his children late Friday afternoon. My knowledge of the incident is very limited at this time, and it is my understanding that the police are still investigating.'”

    https://www.kcbd.com/2021/11/23/court-records-connect-kyle-carruth-deadly-shooting-chad-read/

The deceased was there to pick up his children, and apparently had a right to do so. He was not armed. So no deadly threat. The shooter fired a shot into the ground, and at that point the deceased attempted to disarm the shooter, which looks like the deceased defending himself. The shooter then killed the deceased.

Two other interesting facts: Mrs. Carruth is a judge, and she and the shooter are in the process of divorcing.

Really not a good example of “fuck around and find out,” but in Texas, this killing may pass legal muster. Texas being TexAss. Then again, it may not. It’s under active police investigation. However that comes out, it’s very likely there will be at least one, and potentially two, fewer Republican voters in future Texas elections.

I give Thanks that I awake this morning, so far, without any signs of food poisoning. Next year a rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods will do just fine! Her husband is a bit of Bob, but more liberal. He focused more on beer and wine than making sure the fucking turkey was cooked, and more concerned that the Turkeys were done at the same time, he smoked his in a smoker and she used the oven, so that they didn’t get cold or dry out, not sure he made any sense. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The trumpers have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

    President Stacey Abrams?

A new Morning Consult poll about Biden shows confidence in his physical health has plummeted by 29 percentage points since last October, the month before he was elected. Now only 40% of respondents agree that he’s “in good health,” while 50% disagree. In this survey, only 46% said they believed he is mentally fit for the job while 48% disagree — another huge drop from last year, when voters in this poll believed he was mentally fit by a 21-point margin. Critically, independents do not believe Biden is mentally fit for his job by a 23-point margin. A new Harvard-Harris poll found 53% of voters doubt his mental fitness and 58% said he was too old to do his job.

Harvard-Harris polling also found 61% of registered voters think Biden should step aside in 2024 for another candidate to run; only 24% said he should run again and only 45% of Democrats said he should run again.
    …
Party insiders are expecting a wide open 2024 primary featuring Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and perhaps Stacey Abrams and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and others.

Let’s talk about that. We’ve had four years of Deathfrogg referring to Fat Donny Two Scoops.

A plan to speed Robert Califf’s nomination for FDA commissioner through the Senate next month is on hold after the Biden administration failed to submit the necessary paperwork to Congress in time, three people with knowledge of the matter told POLITICO.

The delay means that Califf is now unlikely to get a confirmation hearing until mid-December at the earliest, effectively ruling out the possibility of a full Senate floor vote on his appointment before the end of the year.

This is after First Vegetable Joe Biden spent months, and months, trying to find someone willing to serve. Turns out that the opioid thing tarnished the reputations of a shitload of people.

Republicans commit voting fraud, then say we must pass laws to prevent voting fraud. I have to say it’s fun watching them get prosecuted under their own laws. (When that happens, they spell prosecuted as “persecuted,” but no one is fooled by that.)

When completed, it will be the end of an era.

    https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-wire/construction-contract-for-south-shore-double-track-project-approved/

Prior to the establishment of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District the Chicago, South Shore, and South Bend Interurban survived many shut down attempts. After NICTD, and a working arrangement with the South Shore track owners, it survived many attempts to make it better. Double tracking and line relocations have occurred on the system, and there is an electrified commuter rail branch in the works, but the classic Interurban street trackage has survived in Michigan City, Indiana.

Until now. Looks like the double tracking and line relocation is a go. Unfortunately, progress comes, ever since they started using the same double deck electric multiple units Metra Electric uses, it made sense, just from a safety point of view. The motorman,s cab is on the upper deck.

    https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-wire/construction-contract-for-south-shore-double-track-project-approved/

This leaves the tourist operation in Yakima and a few Suburban trolley lines in Philadelphia as the last classic interurbans.

    Let’s fast-forward to 2023:

    • Democrats have just lost between 50 and 65 House seats, and about five Senate seats.

    • Pelosi has retired to her just-purchased $30,000,000 Florida mansion, curiously right on the beach despite all of the purported concerns about rising ocean levels.

    • First Vegetable Joe Biden can’t string two sentences together without a mistake and hasn’t given an interview in 120 days.

    • America’s most unlikable Veep can’t string two sentences together without breaking into an embarrassing cackle and hasn’t given an interview in 120 days.

    • No fewer than 12 rap artists have written songs about the Kamala Cackle, and 10 of them are in the Top 20 and feature CGI videos of Kamala twerking in front of Willie Brown’s johnson.

    • Unearthed, verified Betamax home video is made public, which clearly shows a twenty-something Kamala really twerking in front of Willie Brown’s johnson.

And y’all think yer gonna groom the really fat chick with a diastema separating her front teeth wide enough to drive a truck through as the next DNC nominee for president?

Yer gonna need a Leon Panetta. Or someone very much like him.

Yer gonna need evidence of seriousness in the Democrat party. Right now there is none.

Having learned its lesson – perhaps – with Afghanistan, the State Department is making it very clear that Ethiopia is destined to go badly, quickly, and it’s time to GTFO if you are a US citizen.

What they’re saying: State Department spokesperson Ned Price said U.S. passport holders should not expect a Kabul-style airlift if the fighting reaches Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. That’s not going to happen, Price told Axios, calling the Afghanistan withdrawal a “unique and extraordinary situation.”
