I’ve chewed on this. My notion is to track track wages, up or down.
Calculate total US payroll. All salary, wages, benefits to everyone. Track it over time. Break it out by sector.
Individuals tracking their own payroll (like the SSA does) can see how they’re doing, by comparison.

I fear the liberals approach the climate debate far too cerebrally. This particular piece, just on the surface is lacking in emotive force. If you really believe that the earth is imperiled then where is the emotion.? As far as logic and reasoning goes sure all the arguments make sense. But as a rhetorical exercise this video utterly fails. A little more sophistry is in order and I don’t mean that ironically. I mean that in the finest Greek tradition that so irritated the platonists.
We live in a post-literate age. Moving pictures, and immediacy are the game. People can’t understand the climate debate in an abstract and incremental sense. It has to be made meaningful. And the way to make something meaningful in a post-literate society is to make it immediate, palpable.
This is a matter of life and death, not winning some points on “truth” in a amateur debate class.
The video clip is well worth watching. There is a certain irony in the persistent claims of the global warming denial crowd that the theory is a hoax given what the video clip exposes as a concerted fraudulent effort on the part of the deniers to conceal the reality of global warming. Wingnuts hate facts but good hoaxes warm their teeny little hearts.

It was a great experience. I am NOT a sewing machine kind of guy…never used one. But I’m trainable.
Our local chapter has completed & delivered 76 quilts. Out friends went to Germany last year and delivered 8 at the Base where seriously injured soldiers are transported. It was a life-changing experience.
One of the soldiers subsequently died.
His family sent a letter that was gut-wrenching.
They received the quilt a week or AFTER their son’s burial. It meant a lot to them.
There has to be a Seattle area Chapter.

The poorest among us CANNOT simply just CAN”T pay the same tax rate as the richest person. It’s not fair. The poor need every cent they earn just to survive. And it goes on from there, a middle class person needs to keep up his/her house, save up for their kids’ college, orthodonture, whatnot – no way can they pay at the same rate a rich person can.
If government operations were a tiny fraction of what they are now – even THEN – the income tax could only be paid by persons of means. There’s no way you can justify the unfairness of levying the same taxation rate on a poor struggling slob as you would on a billionaire. And indeed that’s the way the first income taxes levied were paid.
The so-called FAIR tax (a lie) would be easily avoided and would jack up the prices of everything. It would be a disaster. The income tax for all its warts is the best system we’ve been able to come up with.
You think taxes are too high? Fine. The biggest discretionary spending item in the Federal budget is defense – that’s where you cut. Our military spending is greater than the next umpteen countries combined. It’s pretty hard to justify that. Social Security? Forget it. The chimp you voted for twice tried to gut it and failed. Medicare? Dream on fool.. The townhall screamers last summer bellowed to their Congress Critters to keep their grubby socialist hands off their Medicare.
Go figure..
Bottom line – the flat tax is a fool’s dream. It means yet another tax cut for the rich and a tax increase on the poor. It means the tax rate on the income of the migrant farm worker is the same as that of Wall Street Bank CEO. Makes no sense whatsoever. Let the Wall Street guy pay for the fancy Pentagon weapons system and the wars of choice. Leave the migrant farm worker or the waitress working for tips + the minimum wage (if she’s lucky) alone to keep their heads above water.
