I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… I’m guessing that the day Progressive Majority set up shop in Washington state will stand out as one of the most significant recent developments in state and local politics.
PM focuses on the hard work of recruiting, training and supporting progressive candidates for “down ballot” races, building a farm team of local elected officials from which future political all-stars will rise. And their results in Tuesday’s election were truly impressive:
18 of 27 candidates won election (67%)
2 races are still too close to call
5 of 9 women won (56%)
5 of 7 people of color won (71%)
2 of 3 union members won (66%)
7 of 11 first time candidates won (64%)
Two of PM’s highest profile victories were that of Dave Somers and Steve Stuart, both of whom the BIAW spent big money to defeat. Stuart’s win keeps control of the Clark County Commission in the hands of Democrats, and was one of PM’s biggest priorities. And Somers huge upset win over incumbent Jeff Sax gives the Democrats control over the Snohomish County Council.
A big thanks to Dean Nielsen, Edie Giliss and everybody else at PM for a job well done. And a special congratulations to PM candidate Marko Liias, whose Mukilteo City Council victory makes him the first graduate of my class at Camp Wellstone to win his first race for office. (At least I think. I’m terrible with names, so let me know if I missed somebody.)

Are you saying that the gender of a person is relevant to their ability to perform a job?
Are you saying that the race of a person is relevant to their ability to perform a job?
Are you saying that “diversity” now means we’re going to have to have set-asides for union members? Are they a historically disadvantaged class of folk?
You guys need to make up your minds. Is your goal to have everyone sliced and diced into ever-smaller racial/social groups, sub-groups and sub-sub-groups? Or should we take each person we meet on a case-by-case basis and judge them on the strength of their character?

Hey C-I, want to know why homes are so expensive? Because Georgy Porgy is debasing the currency, that’s why. Homes are still worth the same, the only thing that’s changed is a dollar is worth considerably less because the government is printing so many of them. Another reason for the upward thrust in housing prices is that people are fleeing from the stock market into hard assets like real estate because Bush has allowed corporate crooks to fleece investors.

That’s the biggest economic crisis coming down the pike and apparently your solution is to continue the ponzi scheme of tearing apart more land and sprouting more subdivisions. Just putting off the day of reckoning. Living inside a fantasy until the bubble can’t be sustained and it pops. How typically BIAW-ish.
The other side to that that you won’t talk about is that real-estate plunder only makes us more dependent on foreign oil and puts us on a collision course with China who is competing for that oil. People commuting longer to jobs congests our highways, (that you don’t want to pay taxes for), burns more and more oil, and increases environmental pollution. Look at Southern California – that’s your dream for Western Washington.
There’s not much to recommend living in your real-estate utopia, Irrelevant Clown. 50 weeks of fighting traffic, working your tail off to stay competitive with the threat of your job going to China or India – all for two weeks of vacation where you try to forget your misery!
And yes we DO have solutions. The Apollo Alliance is a coalition of the Democrats, LABOR, and environmentalists to promote a renewable energy industry HERE IN AMERICA – so we don’t have to send 200 billion dollars a year to places like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. 200 billion dollars a year staying here and creating at least 3 million JOBS.
The Washington legislature just passed two bills promoting solar manufacture and incentivizing solar use – COSPONSORED by a conservative Republican in that Marxist haven of MOSES LAKE.
The future is sustainable industries and sources of jobs – not 16 lane highways that fill up immediately with oil-burning cars and a landscape of sub-divisions, strip malls and big-box stores as far as the eye can see – all built on a mountain range of debt made possible by Chinese and Japanese bondholders.

As long as Mr. Cynical-Irrelevant is bitching about bicycles, I might as well add my 2 cents, because I don’t like bicycles (or bicyclists) either:
1. Aggressive bicyclists who run over pedestrians. (Some years back, downtown in the vicinity of 4th and Pike, I got hit in crosswalks twice on two consecutive days.)
2. If you get injured by a heedless bicyclists who thinks nothing of plowing into a crowd of pedestrians at full speed, you can’t sue for your medical expenses, because these bastards take off or refuse to identify themselves.
3. No license plates on bicycles; no way to i.d. hit-and-run bicyclists who hurt people. See (2) above.
4. Stupid bicyclists who plow into parked cars, run red lights and broadside moving cars, or find other creative ways to injure themselves — then sue the car owner who couldn’t have done anything to prevent the stupid bicyclist from injuring himself.
5. Bicyclists who assume you can see them behind you, in your blind spot, and to the right of you — and then cut in front of you.
6. Bicyclists who assume you can stop a moving car in a distance of 6 inches; see (5) above.
7. Freeloading bicyclists who pay zero taxes for the bike lanes and bike trails they want a profusion of.
8. Bicycles are a viable form of alternative transportation in the same sense that bungee cords are — they’re great if you’re young, healthy, masochistic, and looking for adventure. As for me — I’m too fucking old to pedal 10 miles to work in a December rainstorm; attempting it would put me in the hospital with pneumonia, 100% sure thing.
9. Anybody who pedals a bike in car traffic has a death wish. See 4, 5, and 6 above.
Hey, don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate bicycles or people who ride them — I merely think their behavior is unreasonable, that’s all. Why would I hate bicyclists? They don’t start wars, torture innocent people, violate our constitutional rights, or steal from us. All they want is some bike lanes, bike trails, a few squashed pedestrians, and money from our insurance companies. Republicans want the whole goddam ball of wax, including our balls (because they don’t have any).

Hey Janet, I have news for you, the whole fucking world operates under the baksheesh system. Be happy somebody is getting a bike trail for your tax money. In most countries, it would just go into some official’s pocket.
Janet’s ravings exemplify the dishonest way that wingnuts operate: It doesn’t matter how much accountability WSDOT has, or how fairly the projects are distributed across the state, or how badly the projects are needed — they will ALWAYS have some nitpicking gripe, they will NEVER agree to pay any taxes or spend tax money on anything that doesn’t feather their own nest, they will ALWAYS be anti. Rightwing loonies like Janet have no program, no plan, no solutions — just “no” this and “no” that.

I would point out that DOT stands for Department of Transportation, not Department of driving cars around. There are other forms of transportation and I for one really object to assholes who run around screaming that DOT should only spend my tax money on their roads.
You know those of us who bike, walk, and bus are just as entitled to have a say in how our tax money is spent as you are. And to preclude your objection about whether or not we pay a gas tax, remember that part of our bus fare does include those taxes.

a) Excuuuuuse me, for being off topic (which apparently is an offense only when liberals do it. Okay, we’ll ignore $300 billion wasted on a losing war, so you can rant about $300 million wasted on a failed monorail. Buuut … when do we get to talk about the war?
b) Republicans did the hoodwinking, but let’s blame the victims, eh?
c) If you don’t want to pay gas taxes for bike paths, fine, let’s abolish bicycles and put ’em all in cars, so we can listen to you bitch about too many cars congesting roads. Every bicycle is one less car between you and where you want to go. That’s why we pay gas taxes for bike paths, dumbass.
Roger Rabbit spews:

Furthermore, I personally LIKE the idea of getting bicycles off the street and onto dedicated bike paths, so cars and bikes aren’t mixing it up on the road. It’s safer for the bicyclists, and easier on motorists’ insurance rates.
bill spews:
. . . and I don’t pay sales taxes somehow?!?!
bill spews:
Lets go over this one more time. I am actually not a biker, but the same idea applies. The pedestrian right of way predates the road. Since you dont actually need a road for a bike, the same idea applies. Once you put in the road and cut of the pedestrian right of way, you’ve got to provide an alternate route for those pedestrians you robbed to put in your nasty highway.
Saying ‘just build my road’ doesn’t work, youve got to pay the pedestrians you are stealing right of way from, much like youd need to pay someone if you decided to put a road through their back yard. Unless of course you plan on providing cars and drivers for everyone which I really think is a stupid idea.
righton spews:
roger, even if you are right…..
Our stupidos running DOT can’t even get the dedicated bike lanes right. Go out 520, nice expensive bike lane, that suddenly dumps you into the narrowest and most dangerous of streets around Burgermaster. Ouch….
Whether DOT or ST our guys love trains and trails to nowhere….somehow equating some miles of rail/trail as success.
I’d prefer a solution. And yeah, i’d ride a train or ride a bike if it did the job.
Mr. Irrelevant spews:
Rog—
Bicyclists are arrogant and irreverent. They believe they are ENTITLED to add to the cost of road construction projects and FREELOAD at the expense of Motor Vehicles. Read the post from these CLOWNS!!
Some of these PINHEADS try very hard to rationalize all these FREE bikelanes saying they also drive cars????? THAT DOESN’T MATTER YOU CLOWNS!!! The GasTax is from vehicles and should be used for VEHICLES.
The next fallacy is that the Bike Lannes really don’t cost anything! What a crock of shit! They aren’t riding their bikes on AIR are they???? It sure looks like those wheels are on pavement….FREE PAVEMENT that they didn’t pay for with their sweat glands. So how much have these Bike Lanes COST gas users???? MILLIONS!!! How much have bike users paid??? ZERO!!!!
The other fallacy I read was that Bike Lanes require ZERO maintenance. What a bunch of shit that is. I see bikers tossing garbage and having shit fall off their bikes all the time. PLUS the huge cost is the CONSTRUCTION COSTS!!! It’s not FREE Construction CLOWNS!!!
I ride a bike. Bikers need to start paying their way….starting with the Moses Lake project.
Some of the biggest complainers about my calling BULLSHIT on the Biker FREELOADERS are the same assholes complaining about Developer FREELOADERS getting away with not paying their fair share.
We have some educating to do here Rog——
Mr. Irrelevant spews:
Hey righton—
Can you believe the attitudes of the FREELOADING Bikers????
They vote to keep the GasTax because they don’t drive and want FREE Bike Lanes.
These CLOWNS are serious about their ENTITLEMENT!!!
The Cops need to start enforcing the rules of the road on these idiots.
In some towns, cops have confessed they have been told to lay off the bikers….who are constantly running stop signs and making illegal turns.
Let’s see now–
Bikers want cars to pay for THEIR roadway. Drivers are greedy if they won’t pay their way. Bikers are “progressive” because they refuse to pay their way. Does “progressive” mean FREELOADER????

“Why is your question important?”
Because ideas matter and race and gender don’t. Apparently to
liberalsprogressives race and gender do matter. Since, they went to the trouble of pointing out the race and gender of theliberalprogressive candidates that won yesterday.“Let me guess: You’re a white male, probably over 40, and accustomed to being the default choice in life – and when you aren’t the adefault choice and now that you are no longer getting automatic white boy points, you’re being discriminated against, right? tsk, tsk, cry baby, cry. ”
Why is my race or gender important? I’m not making any claim that males or whites were being displaced, or that progressives being elected is in anyway discriminatory.

It seems to me that the Republicans, not the Democrats, “have a dream.”
It is SO hypocritical that the Left shines a spotlight on someone’s PRIVATE “intimate” life (hah! Take THAT, Filter!), but then quickly disavows the comments by saying, “not that there is anything wrong with that.”

Proud to be an Ass@12….said……” prop 13 has gutted california. let’s not let it happen here.”
are you kidding? you really shouldn’t talk about things you onviously know nothing about! prop. 13 has been the saving grace of california and the people that live in it……..get a clue.
don’t worry though…it would never happen in the people’s republic of washington/seattle. dean logan won’t let it.
LeftTurn spews:
Here’s why progressives are winning.
1) People realize WE are the party of fiscal responsibility. It was under a DEMOCRATIC President that the last budget was balanced and under a REPUBLICAN that the largest deficit in history was created.
2) People realize that WE are the party of LESS government. The REPUBLICANS want MORE government intrusion into our lives. They want to tell our wives when and if they can have an abortion, they want to tell us who we can marry, they want to tell us what we can smoke, they want to tell us who we can sleep with. It’s the REPUBLICANS who want to intrude in our lives.
3) People realize that their right to be free from religious persecution will be protected by the progressives. It’s the REPUBLICANS and their EXTREME RIGHT WING PUPPET MASTERS who want to turn America into a theocracy. They want to dictate which God you believe in and what church you go to.
4) People realize that the DEMOCRATS are the Godly party, seeking to feed the poor, and avoid war. Both commandments of Jesus Chirst that the REPUBLICANS ignore.
5) People realize that the REPUBLICANS cannot be trusted on national security. They outed a CIA agent for nothing other than political gain.
That’s why we won Tue. That’s why we’ll continue to win.

So, when out of state left wing groups come in and swing races it is “progressive”. But if out of state right leaning groups do the same it is somehow different? Typical liberal bullshit. Do not worry about practicing what you preach commies.

“Why did two presidents have to pry the right of minority people to vote out of you rightwing Republican white males with airborne divisions?”
A Republican President, Eisenhower, sent in the 101st Airborne to allow nine black students to attend Little Rock High School. So I guess he’s just another racist Republican from the 50s. Just like George Wallace, oh wait, he was a Democrat.
Your broad generalizations of Democrats and Republicans, regarding racism, just aren’t true. There is a history of racism in both parties. Neither party has a monopoly on racism, or one on tolerance.
Janet S spews:
Roger – I was all ready to tell you how smart you were about bicycles, and then you lobbed another of your nasty insults my way. Oh well.
What do all you progressives have to say about the shameful treatment that Michael Steele got from the dems is Maryland? Is it okay to hurl racist slurs at a black man, as long as he is a Republican? It is such total nonsense that minorities only have a home in the democratic party.

Water over the bridge but my neighbor was confused she said and voted no on I912 thinking that it meant no gas tax, no excuse but I wonder how many times that happened with our fixed income elderly that dont read as well as they used to?
FireSideChat spews:
Chuck, with all the illiterates in your neighborhood and on the right, it probably happens very often. LMAO
Roger Rabbit spews:
Cheesy Chuckie @89
My suggestion for next time is write your initiative IN FAVOR of the gas tax. That way, when your neighbors find out it’s your initiative, they’ll vote against it, and you’ll get what you want.
DiBS spews:
FireSideChat you are an arrogant ass. You in bed with RogerRabbit? Do you find humor in the illiteracy in this country? No laughing matter, especially since it is usually a tool used by Dummycrats to beg for more government aid to the “under-privileged”.
Read #14 VERY CAREFULLY. Those without blinders on will be prepared.
#23 You mean to tell me there are no black or female snowflakes in that avalanche? Who is really guilty of segregating these members of the population? Note to ponder: Why do companies hire men at all if they can get woman to do the same job for less? Don’t credit anti-discrimination laws, how long have they been around?
Wasting billions on a worthless war? Another arrogant American comment. You are an example of those in this country who are oblivious of our vulnerabilty. We are not immortal. Get your head out the sand/your ass. Do you consider WWII a worthless war? Weren’t we fighting terrorism then, also? Weren’t we fighting to protect people from a tyrant in that war?
Finally, all the gloating over winning by 60%, 67%, 55%, etc, sounds more like a sigh of relief, almost like you were surprised yourself at winning?
DiBS spews:
filtered!
DiBS spews:
300 billion on a worthless war? How arrogant can you be? Get your head out of the sand, or out of your flabby, conceited ass. Was WWII a worthless war? Did we not fight terrorism in that war? Was there a tyrant that needed to be stopped? Also, how many times were we attacked under the previous Dummycrat administration? How many times have we been attacked under the current? Get a clue, people. We are global, and the rest of the world doesn’t think like we do, whether we like it or not. Pansy-assed “make love, not war” shit ain’t going to cut it anymore.

I did????? Your original post was some rant about the rest of the world not thinking like us. I don’t think I “proved that point” with anything I’ve said.
“You rejoice over women winning elections but then make a comment about Midol. Hypocrite. “Who is “discriminating” and stereotyping now? “
That’s funny! I have no idea DiBS whether you are a man or a woman, but my advice to you was not contingent on either your sex or your gender.
Here is some other advice for you: Go fuck yourself with a rusty coat hanger (no gender or sex differences implied).
