Somehow Da Perfessa in this Friday Night Comics Collection forgot David Letterman. So Maddow repeats the same lie after Letterman admits Obummer lied about Romney and the Detroit bailout.

LETTERMAN: Here’s what upset me last night, this playing fast and loose with facts. And the President Obama cites the op-ed piece that Romney wrote about Detroit, let ‘em go bankrupt, let ‘em go bankrupt. And last night he brings it up again — oh no, governor, you said let ‘em go bankrupt, blah blah blah, let ‘em go bankrupt. And Mitt said, no no, check the thing, check the thing, check the thing. Now, I don’t care whether you’re Republican or Democrat, you want your president to be telling the truth. You want the contender to be lying. (Maddow and the audience laugh). And so when we found out today or soon thereafter that, in fact, President Obama was not telling the truth about what was excerpted from that op-ed piece, I felt discouraged. [PuddyEmphasis]

Ann Telnaes: Romney and Obama clones on drones.

Yes Ann, Obummer has been acting like GWBush on drone use and Romney agrees with correct thinking. That must suck eh Ann? Well you are a crazed loon Ann; that’s why your commentary always makes the Friday Night Comics!

“My party, unfortunately, is the bastion of those people — not all of them, but most of them — who are still basing their positions on race. Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists, and the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander-in-chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin, and that’s despicable.”

Republican racists. I’m reminded of Bob and his crazed fantasies of white militias roaming the streets of Detroit shooting blacks. I’m also reminded how Bob, after reading a debunked fake tweet posted along with faked photos on an extremist right-wing hate site, concluded that Trayvon Martin, a black teen shot dead while innocently walking home from a 7/11 store, got what was coming to him.

@4
Puddl @1 is splitting the tiniest of hairs and is trying to leverage the smoke and dust Romney has kicked up over the subject to confuse things.

It’s unfortunate that Letterman is coming down the way he is, but I think Maddow’s pushback was just fine, and appropriately calibrated for a guest on the show of the guy making the mistake.

Just as with foreign policy, Romney is trying to latch onto the success of the auto bailout as engineered by Obama – pretending that what Obama did was the same as Romney’s ‘private bankrupcy’ which was manifestly unworkable at the time. Romeny would have presided over a process that would have led to the liquidation of the auto companies, and in turn the devastation of their suppliers. Moreover, ‘bankrupcy’ would have allowed the abrogation of contracts and pensions – feature not bug for Republicans – and dealt a body blow to union workers all over the country.

Romney is counting on the fiction that there was private capital available, and peoples’ short memories and unfamiliarity with bankruptcy processes.

Puddl is of course just spewing the right wing yawp du jour – google ‘letterman calls out obama’ and you get the sources of puddl’s incisive commentary. *eye roll*

7. Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:

Do Republicans really want a discussion of the auto bailout? Or is puddl just full of shit du jour?

But Summers, echoing the opinion of industry experts, CEOs, and Republican politicians in Michigan who supported the bailout, said the kind of resources necessary were impossible to find in the private sector under any circumstances.

The auto rescue ended up requiring about $80 billion in aid from across the Bush and Obama administrations. That would have been by far the biggest debtor-in-possession bankruptcy loan in history had the private sector stepped in per Romney’s plan. The previous record? $8 billion to Lyondell Chemical in early 2009 — and it came with huge interest rates and fees.

More here.

Romney is lying. Again.

8. YLB spews:

Or is puddl just full of shit du jour?

Full of shit du jour. Always..

9. Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:

If Republican ideas are so transcendently fantastic, why do they have to lie about them?

Why did Willard have to throw overboard every foreign policy position he’s ever had, and, importantly, is held by his advisers like Senor and Bolton, Hayden, Black and Lehman, when he bear-hugged and clinched Obama in the third debate?

Why, when right-wing Christianist he-man woman haters like Akin and Mourdock speak what’s in their hearts, revealing the actual positions of the misogynist right, does Willard and the rest of the Republican establishment go to ground?

Why, when discussing the most important single maneuver of the response to the Bush Depression, the auto bailout, does Romney try his best to portray what Obama did as Romney’s own plan, when it clearly was not?

Flim-flam man. Huckster. Grifter. Unctuous used car salesman. Romney.

10. Roger Rabbit spews:

@9 “Why did Willard … bear-hugged and clinched Obama in the third debate?”

Here’s why:

“For anyone wondering why Mitt Romney avoided drawing any distinctions between his foreign-policy plans and those of Barack Obama last night, this should clear it up. This is the advice he’s getting from the Republican Party foreign-policy elite, which remains largely composed of neoconservatives.

“They clearly realise that, their own preferences notwithstanding, most American voters are not interested in a more confrontational foreign policy that runs the risk of entangling America in further conflict in the Middle East. So they’re dialing it down for the remainder of the campaign.

“Does this indicate that Mr Romney would, as president, be less confrontational abroad than he sounded in his campaign for the Republican nomination? If he continues to follow Bill Kristol’s advice on foreign policy most of the time, I doubt it. We know what Mr Kristol’s foreign policy looks like. On Iran: ‘It’s long since been time for the United States to speak to this regime in the language it understands—force.’ On Syria: ‘(T)he United States — working with European allies, Turkey, and other regional partners—should advance a new strategy that uses combined airpower to impose a safe zone in northern Syria.’ On Afghanistan: ‘(T)o say we’re ending our war on schedule means we’re not fighting our war to win.’

“[War] is the neoconservative foreign-policy prescription. It hasn’t changed just because they’ve recognised that their candidate needs to appear conciliatory and say the word ‘peace’ a lot in order to get elected.”

http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2012/10/foreign-policy-debate

Roger Rabbit Commentary: In short, Romney is deceiving voters about what his foreign policy will be, because the neocons whose tune he dances to told him to, because they know voters won’t vote for their agenda of belligerency and armed conflict.

Pretending to be something other than what you are is an electioneering tactic the GOP has adopted across the board — from Romney to Rob McKenna to Suzie Hutchinson. Have you noticed that GOP candidates’ yard signs consistently display their party affiliation inconspicuously or not at all? That’s how toxic the GOP brand has become, and not just because of Dubya, but because they’re ALL crazy, reckless, and irresponsible.

Romney said what he mentioned in the debate.

Romeny has said about a dozen different things – that’s the whole problem, Sherlock. Letterman responded to Obama’s critique, and then compared to Mitt’s latest iteration, the one that makes him look responsible for the good result that happened because of Obama’s policies. However, all of them are disingenuous (Romney’s positions) and Mitt’s policy, as best anyone can tell with that serial liar, would have been disastrous for auto industry, their suppliers, and the country as a whole.

I SOOOOO look forward to Nov 7, when we won’t have to play Whac-A-Mole with Romney’s positions and his idiot minions around here.

The last time the Des Moines Register endorsed a Republican was Richard Nixon. That worked out well, didn’t it? Also, why do you wingnuts talk about media endorsements when you continually whine about the leftist bent of the media? You are, of course, wrong about the media. It is corporatist and rightwing, but I wonder why you would ever cite an endorsement from a newspaper, given what you say about the press.

34. Puddybud spews:

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta said Thursday that he and top military commanders “felt very strongly” that deploying American forces to defend against the fatal attack last month on the United States diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, was too risky because they did not have a clear picture of what was happening on the ground.

So is Leon throwing these two guys, one Navy and one Army under de Obummer bus for Benghazi?

So where is da paper trail Obummer?

Good Housekeeping Talks with Ann Romney

Good Housekeeping: Can you tell me, what campaign issue is closest to your heart?

Ann Romney: I’ve been a First Lady of the State. I have seen what happens to people’s lives if they don’t get a proper education. And we know the answers to that. The charter schools have provided the answers. The teachers’ unions are preventing those things from happening, from bringing real change to our educational system. We need to throw out the system.

Any wonder why Slick Willard keeps his “secret weapon” wife under raps?

43. MikeBoyScout spews:

Boeing loses federal labor case in S. Carolina

The Boeing Co. has lost the latest round with the National Labor Relations Board over actions the company took at its South Carolina facility.
Boeing broke federal labor law by banning talk of unions on company time at its North Charleston site, an administrative law judge found in a ruling issued Friday. The jet maker can’t prohibit workers from talking about unions if it allows them to talk about other topics not related to work, the judge wrote.

[snip]
In his ruling, administrative law judge William Nelson Cates instructed Boeing to cease the ban on talking about the union at the South Carolina site. Boeing also has to post notices at the North Charleston facility acknowledging that it violated labor law and informing workers of their rights.

44. Puddybud spews:

The teachers’ unions are preventing those things from happening, from bringing real change to our educational system. We need to throw out the system.

Ann Romney is right again… More facts for FlubScout… head will explode…

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten’s pay jumped to $407,323 between 2010 and 2011, while her counterpart at the National Education Association, Dennis Van Roekel, got a raise to $362,644. Factor in stipends and other paid expenses and Weingarten took in $493,859 and Van Roekel $460,060 for 2011.

Now per checkmated, facts are facts no matter where the source, so it sucks to be the FlubScout. Another flub!

Remember FlubScout… this is the same Randi Weingarten who attacked Rahmbo Dead Fish Emanuel during the Chicago teacher strike… Oh Noes… Puddy used FDL…

Ann is right… the teachers union only cares about it’s power not about the children. Puddy already posted the 2009 link where the union president said it’s about the union not the children. Did you forget that too FlubScout?

puddl is clearly doing his White Goodman impersonation again.

47. Puddybud spews:

On noes… dunceman@46 arrived… Puddy already posted the link where the teachers union president said it’s about the union not the teachers… Apparently that fact wasn’t on dunceman’s reading list of left wrong sites!

50. Liberal Scientist is a Dirty Fucking Socialist Hippie spews:

It’s a union, idiot.

The fiduciary duty of a union is to represent its members. In this case, teachers, dimwit.

Just like the UAW has its foremost concern auto workers; they’re only indirectly responsible for the quality of any of Willard’s several Cadillacs.

Similarly, the quality of education is the primary responsibility of the school board and school system. However, and like the UAW or any other union, organized workers getting a fair deal and having a voice in their workplace create a better product.

So, the teachers’ union is primarily responsible for giving a united voice to teachers, and indirectly, promote better education of children.

Morons like you will continue to either willfully NOT understanding that distinction, or are too stupid to do so.

51. MikeBoyScout spews:

@47 Uncle Puddles,
I don’t concur with your assessment that “teacher’s unions only in it for themselves“, but isn’t the unregulated pursuit of economic self interest the corner stone of your whole belief system?

If what you are asserting is true, then why is the pursuit of self interest on the part of teachers bad?

52. YLB spews:

Dennis Van Roekel, got a raise to $362,644. Factor in stipends and other paid expenses and Weingarten took in $493,859 and Van Roekel $460,060 for 2011.

If we were to throw out the African American students statistics in 2012 like we did in 1965 we’d be fine.

See, Uncle Puddles, in 1965 segregated and under funded schools were the norm in the USA. A person of your ancestry wasn’t really entitled to a funded education.

It was, in part, teacher’s unions that fought for desegregation of our schools.

Try to remember the next time you bring up comparative statistics of today to a point in our racist past just what you are comparing Uncle Puddles.

57. Puddybud spews:

Of all Ohio polls from September 7 to September 19, Obama held an average lead of 4.2 points, with a Democratic party-ID advantage of 5.7 points. Today Obama leads by 2.1 points, with a party-ID advantage of 6.3 points. In the last month, while Romney has had surges in polls all over the country, the polling in Ohio has actually found more Democrats even while Obama’s lead was cut in half.

66, normally I cannot stand Christie, but on this one, he is doing what a Governor should be. I mean, right now is not the time for politics. Governor Cuomo and Mayor Bloomberg had a tough call to make, and that was when to pull the plug on the MTA, as an abrupt shutdown is not the way to go. THey had to make the call by this morning to start the orderly shutdown by the evening. Remember, the NYC Subway runs 24-7 on most of it’s lines, carries several million people a day.

I agree though, Lugar, Murkowski, Castle, are the name of a few Republican Moderates that lost primaries(but Murkowski made it in the primary). Lincoln Chafee’s father, Sen. John Chaffee was a great man, now, just like his son, would be too moderate for the GOP. In 2006, then Republican Senator, now Independent Governor, Lincoln Chafee barely survived the primary and lost the general election.

On the Hurricane Preparations on the NYMTA, I dug up the NYT story I printed from Irene, and the MTA was thorough. Aquadams as flood barriers for the tunnels to Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal, trains that were parked there had their motors removed to prevent a short. Maintenance of Way equipment moved to where it could be put into action once the storm subsided. They got a handful of vaccum trains to pump water from flooded tunnels.

Now I see taht McCain has helpfully put it in perspective, letting us all know that BENGHAZI!! ™ was worse than Watergate.

This ain’t 2008.

In the current tracking poll, Gallup finds that the 10-point advantage for Democrats has now turned into a 1-point Republican advantage. The current party breakdown is now 35 percent Democrats, 36 percent Republicans, and 29 percent independents. And just in like 2008, that 1-point advantage increases when independents are asked which party they typically lean to, with 49 percent identifying as Republicans and 46 percent as Democrats. That number backs up the trends in other polling showing Romney leading among independents by large margins.

Independents swinging heavily toward Romney. Call it the Republican storm surge.

79. Serial Conservative spews:

WaPo/ABC has Romney up one point nationally. If you believe that the turnout in 2012, D +7, will be the same as the turnout in 2008, that is.

…Mitt Romney’s lead among independents. He wins those 55/40, an overwhelming advantage in a group that Obama won by eight in 2008 on his way to a seven-point win overall in a big Democratic turnout. That’s a 23-point shift in the gap among roughly 30% of the electorate.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2012/election_2012_presidential_election/ohio/election_2012_ohio_president

He’s up 50/48.

Two things:

D/R/I has an even 38% for the major parties. So, no Dem turnout advantage. If one looks at the Gallup polls and how OH has performed traditionally relative to the rest of the country, this makes sense.

Obama is leading independents in this poll. On the Mormon Study thread I pointed out that almost all of the polls have Romney winning the OH independent votes, so this is another reason to be a little skeptical.

Still, Romney with a lead in an Ohio poll.

Not the best week for ‘What did the president know and when did he know it?’ questions, Lib Sci.

The incumbent president has a credibility gap.

The phenomenon of a credibility gap dates to the Vietnam War and the presidency of Lyndon Johnson. The charge then was that LBJ wasn’t leveling with the American people or Congress about Vietnam. The credibility gap was hardly the only thing that caused LBJ to withdraw from the 1968 election, but it eroded support for his presidency.

“B. He must want something.”
He wants two things:
1. He wants New Jersey citizens to be safe.

And when he does, the state government turns to the federal government for help.

And yet, the man you support says this

The Romney campaign said early Monday morning that Romney stood behind a statement first made during a 2011 Republican debate, in which Romney said that the Federal Emergency Management Agency should be disbanded, and its powers either privatized or given to the states.

“Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better,” said Romney in 2011. Asked by debate moderator John King if that included cutting disaster relief, Romney said, “We cannot — we cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids.”

Given the chance to back away from the statement, the Romney campaign instead told the Huffington Post that Romney meant what he said.

So, in the future, christie better not come to the federal government for assistance, cause there won’t be any federal government there to fall back on.
Or maybe that will only apply to democratic states, republicans will still aid republican states.
Maybe the states can pay insurance to a private firm who will help for a profit. That works so well in the health care industry. Death panels for state aid anyone?

1. You morph from Christie acting like a governor should act to some sort of a slam on Romney because of his position on the federalism of disaster response?

2. Check out how Obama handles disaster and and FEMA funding in a sequestration scenario.

3. Why might Romney want states controlling disaster relief funding?

…The Federal Emergency Management Agency ruled that the area did not meet the criteria for aid despite significant damage to scores of homes and other properties in Washington, Carter and Unicoi counties.

87. No Time for Fascists spews:

@86
1. Yup. Just pointing out if romney gets his way, christie won’t be able to call on the federal government any more to keep his people safe. (your words)
2. sequestration scenario = If the republicans were not obstructionist, we wouldn’t have a sequestration scenario scenario. What do you expect from a party who would crash the economy and the government just to get back into power.
3. Typical republican talking point. Because something happened that they don’t like, the whole thing was a failure. bush failed to stop 9-11 but I don’t hear you advocating getting rid of the republican party.
You failed to mention the fact that “There was an $8.5 million threshold for the area to qualify for federal dollars to help residents rebuild what raging flood water swept away or destroyed”. The stated awarded only $0.3 mill to the area. So while I get the people are upset they didn’t get federal aid, it was a state issue they could and did handle. Wait….you are upset that that federal government let the STATE pay for something? What kind of Republican are you?
