Better than current ops outside of London where operators compete with each other for passengers on major thoroughfares, but tend to avoid other areas of the cities. Pre-1985 era operators had tgere problems, but lines that made profits, cross-subsidized the losses on others, not shareholders.
It was a good thing they made London Transport go the tendering route instead of the other cities, gave them something to measure the other operators against.

Nikki Haley has disqualified herself from the White House in many ways: Her frequent waffling, defending the Confederate flag, refusing to acknowledge slavery, and now this groveling to the MAGA mob:
“On the heels of a very bad week for Nikki Haley, the Republican presidential candidate said she would pardon Donald Trump if he’s convicted of federal crimes. ‘I would pardon Trump if he is found guilty,’ she said at a campaign event in Plymouth, New Hampshire, on Thursday. ‘A leader needs to think about what’s in the best interest of the country,’ Haley went on. ‘What’s in the best interest of the country is not to have an 80-year-old man sitting in jail that continues to divide our country. What’s in the best interest of our country is to pardon him so that we can move on as a country and no longer talk about him.'”

Sadly, the polls suggest she’s the only real alternative to Trump in the GOP candidate field. But that would change if SCOTUS kicks him out of the race. Then, Chris Christie would be the best the GOP can offer. I don’t like him a bit. I don’t agree with him on anything. But he’s not the spineless suckup Haley is.

By the way, I don’t see how pardoning Trump would be in the best interest of our country. The case for smooth sailing for Joe Biden in 2024:
First, President Joe Biden has kept his central promise in the 2020 election: that he would lead the nation to the other side of Covid, successfully. The pandemic has receded. Our economic recovery has been better than any other G7 nation. GDP grew at an annual rate of 4.9% last quarter, and more than 3% for the Biden presidency. We have the best job market since the 1960s and the lowest uninsured rate in U.S. history. The Dow Jones broke 37,000 this month for the first time. Wage growth, new business formation and prime-age labor participation rates are all at historically elevated levels. Prices fell — yes, fell — last month. Rents are softening, and gas prices and crime rates are falling. Domestic oil and renewable production are at record levels. The annual deficit, which exploded under Trump, is trillions less today.
Consumer sentiment has risen sharply in recent weeks, and measures of life, job and income satisfaction are remarkably high. ..
This year, Democrats flipped a Supreme Court seat in Wisconsin; defeated a six-week abortion ban in Ohio; kept the Virginia state house, debunking the idea that Republicans could hide behind a 15-week abortion ban; and took state legislative seats, municipalities and school board seats across the country. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, grew his margin of victory from 2019, and Republicans lost mayoral elections in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Jacksonville, Florida, two of the largest GOP-controlled cities in the country. And in over three dozen state legislative special elections around the country, Democrats outperformed 2020 – an election we won by 4.5 percentage points — by an average of 5 percentage points…
Finally, while Democrats keep winning, conventional wisdom continues to overly discount Trump’s historic baggage and MAGA’s repeated electoral failures. Despite these repeated failures, Republicans are on the cusp of nominating Trump again, who this time is an even more degraded and dangerous version of MAGA than he was in 2020.

I told the wife one day that University or College is a trade school – for academia. So if that’s your goal – go to college and attend all the way to Masters or Phd.. Do a postgrad, fellowship, whatever.. You get good enough, become a Prof. knock yourself out..
She didn’t like that for some reason..
All schools are trade schools: medical, law, music, art, dance, welding, automotive, IT, laser tech.. Do whatever floats your boat.
Most employers demand a formal credential. That gives them comfort. No gets fired for hiring someone who got good marks at the right school. However if you can demonstrate competency without a credential, run rings around a credentialed person from the best school – fine, people have been known to succeed that way. Rare perhaps, but it has been known to happen.

Sure but after 4 years, the question remains – what are you going to do with yourself?
My remarks were informed by the autobiography of composer Philip Glass. After 4 years at the University of Chicago, he said he’d had enough of academics. He had no use for what he had learned. He enjoyed it well enough and was enriched by the experience but at the end of 4 years he was more than ready for what he really felt compelled to do.
So he went to what he called “trade school” in New York – the Julliard School of Music.
Roger Rabbit spews:

One of the countless jobs in the economy that require an ability to gather and process information, make decisions, and manage work groups that may include technical experts.
Many companies look for general skills and train hires for specific roles in management, marketing, customer service, or whatever they need done. Most jobs require more than just technical skills.
The fact that liberal arts graduates consistently have a lower unemployment rate, and earn more, is evidence that the kind of education I described has practical value in the work world.
Plus, that type of education produces better citizens and voters. It’s not an accident that Trump’s angry populism mostly appeals to non-college-educated voters, although he occasionally snags a retired doctor who fucks horses.

But on Saturday at the Orange Bowl, Florida State faced a historic defeat by No. 6 Georgia, falling behind 42-3 at halftime, and lost by a final score of 63-3 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The 60-point margin of victory is the largest ever in a bowl game ….”
https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/30/sport/florida-state-left-out-of-the-college-football-playoff-wins-loses/index.html
Now of course they were missing some key players, including their star quarterback. But that was the whole point of leaving them out of the playoffs.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Lots of commentators are weighing in on Section 3. For example, a guy I never head of wrote in an op-ed for CNN that efforts to keep Trump off the ballot are “breathtakingly foolish,” because Trump represents a “political problem, which means he can only be beaten in the political arena.” Therefore, it’s an “illusion” that Trump “can be neutralized by appealing to a clause of the Constitution written to exclude members of an armed rebellion against the United States.”
https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/21/opinions/colorado-removes-trump-from-ballot-linker/index.html
This is basically a variant of the “let the people decide” argument. As I’ve pointed out before, the Constitution doesn’t let the people elect Arnold Schwarzenegger or send Obama back for a third term, no matter how much they might want to. It also expressly prohibits the voters from installing an insurrectionist in the White House, absent a congressional override of the disqualification.
Another problem with his argument is, what if letting the people decide fails to keep Trump out of the White House, and then he abuses power if he gets back in?
Think about this: If conservatives are going to hop on the popular-vote train, and argue voters should decide everything, then why not let the voters elect the president by direct popular election, and whoever gets the most votes wins? Trump wouldn’t have been elected in 2016 if that system was in place. He’s unlikely to win the popular vote in 2024. So what, exactly, is the rationale for submitting the possible election of an insurrectionist and coup plotter to the vagaries and inequalities of the Electoral College?
If you ask me, what’s breathtakingly foolish is not disqualifying him, of taking a chance that small-state rightwingers can again outvote popular majorities and install a would-be dictator who’s vowed to trash the rule of law?
Section 3 was written to keep Confederates from taking over the government. This was no longer seen as a threat when the disqualification was lifted from most of them a few years later (but not from Jefferson Davis until over 100 years later). But Section 3 wasn’t repealed; it was left on the books, in case a Trump came along in the future.
What’s foolish is not using that amendment for what it was enacted for, and opening the gates for an insurrectionist to take over and then topple our constitutional scheme of government.

Charles Rodman Campbell is back in the news. He was hanged at Walla Walla in 1994 for the 1982 Clearview murders. Now DNA has connected him to the 1975 murder of a University of Washington coed.
After being released from prison for a 1974 rape, Campbell went to the victim’s home and killed her, her 8-year-old daughter, and a neighbor by slitting their throats. The little girl was nearly decapitated. During his 11 years on death row, he was often described in the media as “Washington’s most hated man.” According to today’s Seattle Times story his own parents believed he should be executed to protect the public from him. Wikipedia notes, “Then-governor Mike Lowry was an opponent of the death penalty, but upon hearing the details of Campbell’s crimes, he refused to commute his sentence to life in prison.”
There are problems with the death penalty, but unlike many of my liberal friends, I’m not against it in all cases. Where the crime is especially heinous, and guilt is not in question, I believe some people have it coming. Ted Bundy was executed for raping and murdering a 12-year-old girl, whose body was tossed into a pigpen. Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people, including 19 children, and injured 680 others.
Campbell was long believed to be a triple murderer. Now we know he was a serial rapist and killer. To the end, he fought his death sentence, arguing executing him was against his religion.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Washington secretary of state Steve Hobbs apparently is queasy about disqualifying Trump from the ballot here, according to the Seattle Times.
“Hobbs’ misgivings reflect deep divisions and unease among elected officials, democracy experts and voters over how to handle Trump’s campaign to reclaim the presidency four years after he went to extraordinary lengths in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election.”
https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/nation-politics/in-some-state-including-wa-voters-and-officials-have-misgivings-about-removing-trump-from-the-ballot/
It shouldn’t. The 14th Amendment isn’t discretionary. If Trump engaged in insurrection, he’s disqualified. The Constitution doesn’t leave it up to election officials, experts, or voters. The only decision to be made is whether his actions fall within Section 3, and most experts say it clearly does. Hobbs should get off the dime and bar him from our ballot. Whether somebody takes offense is immaterial.

27)DNA Evidence probably will see more cases solved, that the prosecutors only chose to charge on what they felt they could convict on. The Yipsalanti Ripper was one, charged with only one count, but authorities believed he was responsible for the murders of several college students in Washtenaw County. Ironically, he made tge mistake of moving one body through his uncle’s place while watching the property while his uncle, the state trooper was on vacation. I believe recently DNA connected him to another of the victims.
Graham could only be charged with one count because blowing up an airliner was so new, there was not a federal statute yet. So the DA for the City and County of Denver could only charge for the pre-meditated murder of Graham’s target, his mother. Graham may have got tge idea hearing about the bombing of Canadian Pacific 108, but missed what happened to the perpetrators. In 1952, Canada still had the Death Penalty, and like Britain, was pretty much automatic for murder convictions. The bomber and two accomplices, , were hanged. Last time Canada executed a woman.

ON OCTOBER 27TH, after roughly three weeks of campus turmoil surrounding student responses to Hamas’s October 7th attacks and the ensuing Israeli bombardment of Gaza, Harvard president Claudine Gay announced at a Shabbat dinner at Harvard Hillel that she was establishing an advisory group to guide her efforts to combat antisemitism on campus…
Gay’s letter suggests that the task force will explore what she casts as a worrisome relationship between antisemitism and activism for Palestinian rights, none of its members have conducted scholarly research into this supposed intersection. Most notably absent from the advisory group was Derek Penslar, the director of Harvard’s Center for Jewish Studies and a leading scholar of Zionism and its critics…
Why wasn’t Penslar chosen? One likely factor is that he signed the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (JDA), which states that “criticizing or opposing Zionism” is not necessarily antisemitic. By contrast, most of the people appointed to the advisory group—none of whom have Penslar’s expertise—have made public statements alleging that anti-Zionism is antisemitic, or are affiliated with organizations that hold that view…

This is your opportunity to allege that I deleted my losers.

Obama has gone from a modest favorite to win re-election to, probably, a slight underdog.
That’s nothin’. You should see Bill Clinton’s polling in December, 1991.
Or, more recently, #CrookedHillary’s polling:
The only reason it was that close was the inclusion of what Goldy referred to as bullshit polls. If those were excluded:
Thank you, Darryl. Thank you even more, Goldy.
Vicious Troll spews:

Replace refocus with divert. The adverb pathetically is inferred.

Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit sucked on this pacifier for four years.
Vicious Troll spews:
I wonder if Darryl would claim today that Joe Biden “is not the least bit corrupt”.
Probably not. But not definitely not. Because if he was put on the spot and didn’t make the claim, I don’t think Queen YLB could recover from the loss of innocence that would result, and Darryl would know that.
I looked it up and so can you spews:

Yeah, no. Trump won’t be winning Michigan. You don’t win a “turnout” contest while everyone on your state team is busy suing each other. Left to their own natural impulses, Republicans just can’t help but fuck themselves.

For giving lawyerly answers to a demagogic inquisition by degenerate repukes, one of which attended her institution,

Roger Rabbit spews:
@57 “Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit sucked on this pacifier for four years.”
And you’ve sucked on an undemocratic electoral system created to preserve slavery even longer because you realize, as all Republicans do, that a GOP candidate will never win a popular vote. Your party is terminally unpopular.

We are tired of reading about Harvard’s failures every time we check the news. We are sick of reporters hassling us for interviews in the Yard. 36)Is it still geofenced in Toronto? The system could not see a Toronto Streetcar, which is about 100ft long. Ironically Toronto cops could, was easier to ticket the operator for blocking an intersection, than motorists who were not following the rules on a street where car traffic was restricted. Toronto cops got such bad PR, they started enforcing the transit priority on King Street. Still motorists keep thinking streetcar tunnels are good shortcuts, when they often are just for subway access, as when streetcars and buses drop their passengers off at subway stations, they are already in the subways fare paid area. The tunnels at Union and Spadina stations are meant for streetcars only, so as the tracks leave the streets, the pavement ends. Motorists then get stuck. TTC has tried plenty of barriers to stop them.
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
Your party is terminally unpopular.
It isn’t just that Republicans are now an unpopular minority party.
It’s that virtually all Republicans, including the profoundly stupid troll, accept and embrace that status and pin their entire electoral identity and future on a complex assortment of arcane legal maneuvers, ballot “hacks”, and baroque arguments designed to empower and institutionalize that minority identity.
They aren’t even trying to persuade any new converts to their MAGA faith. They are only trying to stir up more grievance and resentment among the same basic, deplorable sub culture. And then employ that energy along with the remnant traces of white privilege, to tilt public institutions and elections in their favor.
Consider Rep Thomas Massie’s threat this week to somehow use a slight House advantage to disenfranchise Colorado and Maine. It amounts to revealing the game plan. They want to take the election away from the states where the constitution places it, and give it to themselves in Congress. And that was the end game in January of 2021.
Republicans don’t plan strategies to win elections.
They plan criminal conspiracies to steal elections.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@77 “Consider Rep Thomas Massie’s threat this week to somehow use a slight House advantage to disenfranchise Colorado and Maine.”
If they could do it, they would’ve done it long ago. They tried to disenfranchise 7 states in 2020, but didn’t have the votes. They still don’t have the votes to disenfranchise anybody.
Btw, what is wrong with Kentucky voters? Mitch, Rand, Massie …
The state is known for horses. Are they all fucking horses?

They’re too dumb for their own good.
The minute some Republican dipshit like Massie leads a rebellion to prevent counting of Colorado, the Senate steps in to stop every other red state that follows. Leaving Joe Biden the winner.
They go in alphabetical order.
What state comes before Colorado ?
Point is, they don’t even expect to be in the running to win with votes anymore. It’s always down to some bogus lawsuit, delay tactic, forged documents, weird Ted Cruz parliamentary procedure, and maybe a few pipe bombs.

Not if after these shenanigans neither candidate gets to 270. What happens if neither candidate gets to 270?
Libbies don’t wanna talk about it.
An election thrown to the House is not good for libbies. So QoS McHillbilly’s proclamation that the Senate will step in to cancel out red states won’t happen. An election decided by the House won’t result in Biden, nor Momala, getting the nod.
