Choose the Right Synonym for nefarious

    Liz Cheney is 56.

She may survive this politically. But for at least the near term her political future does not exist.

Wyoming is both a very small state and a very Republican state. So while that means that right now and for the near future it will remain a very hostile environment for Liz Cheney, that could change more quickly in Wyoming than in some other places. She could begin to rebuild her political career immediately and in six to ten years stage a comeback in some kind of statewide race.

The sense of mourning and regret the corporate media are expressing upon finally realizing all this is very telling. Make absolutely no mistake, Cheney is a very, very conservative politician. Her voting record speaks for itself. And it is particularly significant that she is a very reliable vote for enormous tax cuts for hyper-wealthy individuals and global corporations, for increasing global warming emissions, for more and better machine guns in schools, for massive cuts to social security, and for the end of taxpayer supported public education in America.

These expressions of hand-wringing, loss, regret, and waste by big media companies about her political fate tell us all a great deal about their political interests, without their intending to tell us. It’s something to pay attention to and to learn from.

There are still perfectly good reasons for any Democrat to refuse to debate a crazy person. Not the least of which reasons would be that you can win easily without doing so. But I’m guessing the reason Hobbs might refuse this offer is because Lake is lying. She won’t “allow” her opponent to write the debate rules. She won’t “allow” her opponent to choose any moderator. She won’t “allow” her opponent to select all the questions.

Back in March, when it was “affordable”, Cortez Masto locked down $10 million of air time from Labor Day to Election Day.

I’m reading $8.4M, and you neglected to mention that the GOP locked down $3M of air time in the state at about the same time.

When the GOP shifts money from other races the NV funding gap will narrow – the GOP probably won’t spend $9M in New Hampshire, for instance.

Something tells me that Laxalt – whose family name means he’s got lots of friends who will contribute when it’s time – won’t be hurting for ad money, McHillbilly. Oz, on the other hand…

  52. 52

    Ad reserves in late April:

The DSCC is reserving $8.4 million in Nevada, $7.5 million in Arizona, $7 million in Georgia and $4 million in New Hampshire, according to a DSCC aide. The party is also going on offense in two states, reserving $3 million in Pennsylvania, which is an open seat due to the retirement of Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, and $3 million in Wisconsin, where GOP Sen. Ron Johnson is running for reelection.

That is about $33M. A fourth of it is to prop up a really weak senator from NV.

The GOP has reserved $53M, including money to hold the NC seat.

The NRSC has reserved its ad time in the small group of states that will likely determine control of the Senate — $9.5 million in Georgia, $9 million in Wisconsin, $9 million in New Hampshire, $8 million in Arizona, $8 million in Pennsylvania, $6.5 million in North Carolina and $3 million in Nevada, according to a plan provided to POLITICO. The committee will spend another $2.6 million in Wisconsin on hybrid ads jointly funded by Republican Sen. Ron Johnson’s campaign.

The GOP has more freedom to move money than do Democrats, as the Fall campaigns begin to close.

[Both quotes are Politico; GOP from May 12, Dem from April 29.]

Might do. If they also build a whole new bunch of local licensees with available air time.

But they aren’t shifting into Nevada. They are shifting out.
Five days ago Rick Scott canceled $1.5 million of his Nevada book.
Would be totes cool if some other superPac snatched it all up. But too late now. Dems got to it first.

Rick got overheated and shot his wad early. He was proud of it. That sort of thing is probably common among Florida swingers like him, Roger Stone, Matt Gaetz, and Cheetolini. But it’s gonna cost ’em in this case. They got on the air early this year and used that air time to define their “important” issues about swimsuit inspections, killing FBI agents, and teaching the real truth about how much the slaves loved their white masters. That’s all gone now. For all the good it did.

Mission Control was in ruins, plus a death toll in the hundreds, with shades of the OKC Bombing, One of those killed was a a former astronaut, and tge US’s first woman in space, which happened much earlier than in real life, thanks to the Soviets following up Leonov with a woman, while Apollo 12 was on the launchpad. If republicans don’t like Americans not upholding their laws, stop giving examples to copy.

Recently Kansas people voted to keep abortion *LEGAL. Now republicans are trying to fight the results.

The republican West Virginia Governor heard about this and now refuses to make the issue a referendum up to the people of that state.

South Dakota voters passed a referendum that tightened campaign finance laws. It was mostly passed by low income Black and Indigenous people of color. The republican legislature overruled them.

Florida voters passed a law allowing medicinal cannabis. The republican state legislature essentially tried to overrule that and made smoking medicinal cannabis illegal.

Maine voters passed a measure to expand Medicaid. The republican Governor simply refused to implement it even after ordered by a court to do so.

Missouri voters passed a statewide referendum to expand Medicare. The republican legislators refused to fund it.

Arizona voters passed an initiative in 2015 to form an independent redistricting commission (to prevent gerrymandering) and the Republican legislature attempted to overrule it. The US Supreme court stepped in and made the republicans follow the law.

Republican Governor of Maine Paul Lepaige again tried to overrule voters, who this time approved rank choice voting

Republican Arizona legislature overruled the will of voters to increase minimum wage.

But we all know that ain’t what’s going to happen.

I don’t even think the GOP will bother to be deceptive about it. Which candidates are allowed onto the state party primary ballots is up to the party. So the word can simply go out from the private sex club in Florida to all the state party orgs and Cheney will be out. But there are other ways it could be accomplished. They could make a rule that the nominee may not have been born in the same state as the nominating convention, for example. I would not, however, suggest any physical tests. I think Cheney is probably taller than Fat Midget and she’s almost certainly stronger than Trump.

tasked to chasing down tax cheats so the budget can be better balanced. Consider the following:

The number of IRS revenue agents is down by 43% since 2010 due to budget cuts. Fewer agents means fewer audits.

Even though the number of taxpayers reporting over $1 million has doubled in the past eight years, audits of millionaires have fallen to just 25% of their previous number. Fewer than 2% of taxpayers reporting over $1 million are audited.

IRS audits of millionaires recovered $4.8 billion in 2012, but only $1.2 billion in 2020.

Eight years ago, nearly all companies reporting more than $20 billion in assets were audited, which recovered $10 billion in unreported taxes. In 2020, only a third of those companies were audited, recovering only $4.1 billion.

Just 533 cases were prosecuted for tax crimes in court in 2020—the lowest on record.

    Who said this now?

Many believe that trading for hostages makes bad policy. It encourages America’s enemies to take more Americans as prisoners.

“Look, I don’t agree with that premise. You can’t be lily-white and lily-perfect. It’s going to take something,” *soandso* retorts. “We have to stand by our Americans. We can’t leave Americans behind, and there’s often a price to pay.”

Oh one of lord kreepshit’s favorite Dems said that – Bill Richardson..

If Richardson stood by Bowe Bergdahl, would kreepshit sing a different tune? or just parrot the same old horseshit spewed by its beloved always wrong wing liars?

@76 Next question: Should candidates be precluded from participating in debates from prison cells?

Well at least a different one than her pal Putin is working on.

@95 You’ve got to be kidding. The Bernie part I can maybe understand, but the FBI would do well to keep Tulsi under surveillance.

I think we’re going to see extremely aggressive efforts by Republicans to enforce abortion bans. DeSantis removed an elected prosecuting attorney for simply saying he wouldn’t enforce an abortion ban, and Louisiana’s attorney general blocked New Orleans flood prevention funding because the city council passed a non-binding resolution asking law enforcers to not enforce that state’s abortion ban. When Republicans do stuff like this, anyone who thinks they’ll only go after abortion providers, and not women and girls who have abortions, is dreaming. I think we’re going to see a great deal of thuggery by Republican zealots who see themselves as fighting an uphill battle to impose their will on a country where two-thirds of the public supports abortion rights. If they get control of Congress, I won’t be surprised to see them condition all sorts of federal funding on state abortion ban compliance and other coercive actions.

@110 Accepting a speaking invitation at CPAC probably ensured that nobody will consider her a “Democrat” again. At least no Democrats. It’s hard to say what constituency she represents, besides Putin and Assad, so she probably doesn’t have a political career ahead of her.

Maybe she can become Doctor Dumbfuck’s love interest after he tires of the horse (or the horse tires of him). He seems interested in her.

Making you run your car with electricity? Handing your ilk over to black criminal gangs? Taxing you for your indigent little sister’s abortion after you and your buddies gang-raped her? Be specific.

Since Rudes has already been disbarred, and probably will go to jail, he has nothing to lose professionally by turning states’ evidence against the former client who stiffed him on $2.5 million of legal work.

If you didn’t know better, you might think the FBI raided DeSantis’ house and found chained-up children in the basement:

“The polling shows, a Politico/Morning Consult poll shows he increased his punitive or potential lead over [Ron] DeSantis, Florida governor DeSantis, his closest potential rival, by 10 points. There was a private poll he was shown, which was shared with us, in a Florida congressional race. Before the raid, Donald Trump was tied with DeSantis, 38/37 in a crowded primary. After the raid, Trump’s lead grew to 52 percent to 20 percent over DeSantis.”

A Republican believes Democrats would “do well” to choose a candidate who gets far fewer votes.

Also believes the 2020 election was “stolen”, bleach cures COVID, and Matt Gaetz would make a wonderful girl’s swim coach.
