    Yakima’s Vintage Streetcar consists of two lines, a City line along Pine Street, and an Interurban route to Selah via Sixth Ave. Last years lockdown saw last summer’s season canceled, and the Selah route took some damage from dirt and debris clogging the flange way of the embedded.track. Most of this summer, the weekend rides were only on the Pine Street line. With a break from the heat, volunteers had cleared some of the Sixth Ave route up. This week, a major Apple grower cooperative rounded up some volunteers among their employees, and finished the job.. should be running today. One thing I love about Yakima Valley Trolleys is their vintage equipment, including ex-Porto Brill single truck cars 1776 and 1976, and Brill Master Units 21 and 22. The latter, along with non-operable companion No.20, were in 1930, the last streetcars bought new by a company or agency in Washington State, for decades. Interesting story about both classes.

    I truly don’t understand the argument about the relationship between the economy and being locked down because of the virus.

    I mean we went thru, what is almost 2 years now of the virus in all forms of a lockdown scenerio. Partial lockdown, full lockdown, no lockdown, and every form in between. And we survived it, at the expense of +600,000 Americans,,,,but we did. All be it with the help of a vaccine.

    Aside from being in a better position, if all the Dumbfucks got their vaccine too, shouldn’t we be able to survive some form of lockdown (social distancing and mask use) along with good testing and try to get thru this fuck of The FuckHump mess.

    That story says the worker shortage won’t go away in September, or for the foreseeable future. The reasons are manifold:

    1) As of 2019, a majority of baby boomers were still working past age 65; those pushed into retirement by the pandemic won’t return.

    2) The many workers who started their own businesses during the pandemic won’t return, either.

    3) Nor will the millions of moms who can’t get child care, even if the schools reopen. Many parents are still leery of exposing their kids to the still-raging virus. Many others are rethinking work-life balance.

    4) Immigration, a vital source of labor, has fallen off.

    5) And, of course, the workers killed or incapacitated by the virus aren’t coming back, either. Remember, this country has lost over 600,000 lives, nearly all of them adults, many of working age. Dead people can’t work.

    Amazon, Target, McDonalds, even Walmart (!) have raised their basic wage rates to $15. Even without legislation, nobody has to work for less. The free market has decreed a $15 minimum wage. But companies can’t fill jobs even at $15, and many employers will have to pay more.

    It’s a sellers market. Workers are calling the shots. The 50-year era of Republican slave-labor wages is over.

    The fact that Trump’s Save America PAC took in most of those funds in 2021 should tell us all why. As an unaffiliated PAC, Save America is limited to raising $5000 per individual contributor per year. Trump is demonstrating his talent for small ball. Some of that may have been driven by The Big Lie and the associated scams involving unauthorized recurring debit transactions. But very little has been done to curtail that kind of activity. And if the mouth breathers who feed into it are too stupid to vaccinate, why should we expect them to read their own bank statements?

    No other Republican can match this or even come close. And very few Democrats can as well. Nor will they if the rest of us don’t keep fighting. The war chest Trump is building is seed money to buy access, opportunity, and loyalty – from the media, from business, from candidates, and from state orgs and legislatures. When a state legislative candidate can win a district with a $15,000 direct mail buy, $100 million in six months is a money firehose.

    People like Marjorie Space Laser and MyCrackPillow are not going away. With Trump’s backing they will grow in power and influence. Do not dismiss them or fail to take them seriously. They can, and they will say whatever crazy, fucked up thing they must in order to get on camera and drive eyeballs and clicks. But what they can also do is steer vast sums of money that can transform local campaigns and races. When someone like that can help make (or prevent) an attack mailer drop in your district with a month to go, it is a very powerful incentive to start believing in Joo Space Lasers.
