    Somebody finally read the statute to the Attorney General, so in an angry email released this morning, Barr informed Berman that at his request The President had fired him.

    And with a few administrative procedures experts at his side, Barr now has revised the chain of succession at SDNY, leaving the office in the hands of Berman’s chief Deputy, not Trump’s hand chosen fixer from SEC.

    So I presume that concludes this episode as far as Berman is concerned. However, as I read the statute, Barr just kept Trump out of the obstruction trap by big-footing it himself. Either that, or the dismissal is invalid.

    When the Constitution and the statute combine to require the inferior officer be removed by the President, then that generally has been taken to mean at the discretion of, will of, determination of the President. So the only legal way this protects Stupid Hitler from a charge of obstruction would then functionally render the dismissal unlawful and invalid.

    Trump has to have a valid reason other than “Bill told me to do it.” The only reason anyone knows of is a corrupt one.

I never took anything home that wasn’t mine, with one exception, an old wooden swivel chair that became mine when it was given to me by a manager who otherwise would have had to pay someone with taxpayer money to haul it to a dump. It’s a nice chair, solid oak, they don’t make ’em anymore, lasts a hundred years, has some cosmetic blemishes. Somebody died in it. Was about to retire, and boom! keeled over at his desk, dead as a nail. He was worked to death.

    As for me, I was an honest hardworking public servant who sometimes did the work of two people for years on end (the personnel system’s inefficiency at filling vacancies being what they are), putting in lots of unpaid overtime to do it; always going the extra mile to help the office function smoothly, and never forgetting who I was there to serve.
