    I won’t argue economics with Krugman; he has more Nobel Prizes in that field than I do.

    Even if there are times it might work, it won’t work now because (a) the world is already awash in capital and doesn’t need more, (b) it won’t go into business investment, (c) the reasons for weak business investment have nothing to do with taxes or lack of capital, (d) if you want empirical evidence of this, look no further than Trump’s tax cuts, which went to stock buybacks and dividend hikes and produced higher stock prices, not business investment or wage growth. Of course, as a lazy capitalist who collects dividends and doesn’t produce anything I’ve benefited from this, but I won’t vote for him anyway. Not in a million fucking years.

You should choose a candidate to support on the merits — including his/her chances of beating Trump, which should be every Democrat’s #1 priority. He impresses me, and he might be the fresh face the Democrats need, but he needs black voters.

    I support Mayor Pete on the merits, including his chances of beating The Hump, which as you say should be EVERY Democrat’s #1 priority, including African Americans.

    Agreed – He does need the black voters to be behind him, just as they need to be behind him if He should become the Democratic nominee for President in 2020 (or any other year but particularly now), otherwise they end up with the Republican nominee.

    Likewise myself – if Klobuchar should become the Democratic nominee, I need to give her my full support otherwise I could end up with the alternative (The Hump), regardless of my feelings towards her on her regarding sexism or support towards the LGBTQ community.

    As of now, or during any of the Debates, I have yet to hear her speak toward what she has to offer the LGBTQ community or any of the other candidates, as well as the others including Mayor Pete. But Mayor Pete can’t necessarily be the one to bring it up without the a question being asked, because it would be self serving and look like he is throwing it in the face of the other candidates(and I believe it would turnoff a lot of mainstream voters).

    And maybe I missed it, but why can’t anyone of the hosts as a question about how they would support the LGBTQ community, and protect them against discrimination due to Religious fucks. Why not ask that question to Klobuchar? Like I say, maybe it has been asked (religion and discriminating against LGBTQ) and I just missed it. Has it?

    But my reply isn’t about the LGBTQ community, unless it has something to do with African Americans (some – the religious ones) not being comfortable with his sexual orientation and the reason for the lack of their support.

    But what African Americans should be concerned with, is that Mayor Pete could be the nominee, and not supporting him could be a bigger problem for them. They would be better served if they knew what he would do going forward and not be dragged down by the past and mistakes made. It does every African American a disservice to negatively attack him about the past and not ask him what he would do going forward, if it keeps them from feeling that they want to vote.

    Should I stay home if Klobuchar is the nominee, when I want The Hump defeated?

    Every African American should be just as concerned with the other candidates and whether the others can beat The Hump. Shouldn’t that be their concern? And shouldn’t their attitude be like – “Hey, Pete’s the nominee, let’s vote for him so he beats The Hump. And let’s work with him to improve where he lacks” or is it “Hey, Pete’s the nominee, he hasn’t shown us support so let’s not vote for him and end up with The Hump”. And should they ask, “Hey, Pete might be the only one that can beat The Hump, we need to help him win and help him better understand us”? Will Bernie’s lose because of Socialism label? Will any of the other candidates be just as vulnerable for whatever reasons?

    This is exactly Mayor Pete’s point. We need to nominate someone who will beat The Hump. In these debates, I think Pete pretty much stays positive and on his message at what is at stake, and doesn’t attack the others as much as they attack him.

    @22 People tempted to criticize the Democratic candidates should remember that perfect is the enemy of good, and good is preferable to awful. We don’t have a perfect candidate, but in this election “flawed” is a highly relative concept.

    The Democratic Party is a loose affiliation of blocs, factions, and interest groups. Our best chance to defeat Trump is by rallying behind a strong candidate. The worst thing that can happen to us is a brokered convention that leaves some of us feeling betrayed, cheated, or stepped on. That is precisely what Trump and GOP strategists are hoping for.

    I can’t think of anything more dangerous for our party than no candidate going to Milwaukee with a majority of delegates, then someone who wasn’t in the primaries walks out of a smoke-filled room with the nomination in his pocket, especially if it appears he bought his way into the room.

    Bloomberg may have the best chance of beating Trump in November, by appealing to center-left and center-right voters leery of progressive agendas. But he has to do more than run ads. He has to run. He has to get out on the trail, in the rain and snow and mud, to meet voters, listen to them, and win them over. That’s the only way anyone can become a legitimate nominee.

    I don’t know who I will vote for on March 10. Like most voters who identify as Democrats, beating Trump is my top priority, and I’ll vote for the candidate I think is most likely to accomplish that. Policy wishes are subordinate to ending our national nightmare.

    Buttigieg impresses me with his smarts and energy, but he has two glaring weaknesses: (1) his standing with black voters, and (2) his kumbaya approach to Republicans, which I think is naive and pollyannish. Wanting to be a healer is nice, but when Nazis point Mausers at you, you’ve got to fight to win.

    Who else is there? Biden? Sanders? Bloomberg? I don’t see the Democratic base embracing the latter, and I’d want to see him win primaries before I’ll believe he can bring them along, but there isn’t time before March 10 for that.

    Until recently, Biden looked like the “safe,” if uninspiring, candidate but he’s beginning to look weak and no longer as safe a bet as he did earlier. This has nothing to do with Trump’s effort to damage him; that failed, and his Ukraine scheme lies discredited and in ruins now. It’s because Biden is making the same mistakes again.

    I think Sanders could win, but only because of Trump. I’m less confident Warren could and she’s fading anyway. Klobuchar is growing more impressive in the debates, but I continue to believe that she’s a vice presidential contender, and not in the running for the #1 spot. So it comes back to Buttigieg. I wish him all the luck in the world in expanding his base to include black voters, keeping progressives on board, and taking a realistic approach to what governing will be like. We sure could use him, if he can do all of that.

    And if Franklin Graham has a heart attack when CNN flashes “President-Elect Buttigieg” on the screen, that’s icing on the cake.

    Several Duval County GOP volunteers were working at the registration tent when a white man in his early 20s driving an older — possibly 1980s — brown van pulled up toward the tent.
