“’Traditionally it’s always been Republicans suppressing votes in places,’ Justin Clark, a senior political adviser and senior counsel to Trump’s re-election campaign, said at the event. ‘Let’s start protecting our voters. We know where they are. … Let’s start playing offense a little bit. That’s what you’re going to see in 2020. Under Trump so far the GOP is averaging a loss of more than 160 legislative seats in each cycle. Extended over two full terms (as if) that would produce a net loss of 640. Not as bad as Obama. But not great either. And a bit more of an uphill battle considering how so many of those states have shifted their rules and access for voting in that time. Moreover, while the GOP enjoyed their biggest gains immediately after Obama was elected. After which the pace dropped off. The Democrats gains so far are gaining pace with each cycle owing probably to successful efforts in both building a candidate recruitment effort (a big and costly challenge) as well as voter outreach and recruitment that has been very successful in targeted states.
Aside from timing, Obama’s biggest down ballot failure would have to be in failing to use his appointments to elevate rising stars in key states where he had over performed in both elections. States like Michigan and Florida. Michigan 2016 was a dumpster fire. Michigan 2018 was a 180 reversal. I don’t blame Republicans for needing that Time Musheen. They know this demographic is more addicted to print and broadcast media than any other they will ever see again. They can’t afford to lose them. And yet in order to keep them they must agree to disrespect, insult, and essentially gaslight every other member of their audience.

Well, to set you straight – No, I don’t think Mayor Pete should be installed as president without an election…but that will come soon enough in 5 more years with The Hump (except a pretend election will be had), especially if Democrats choose the wrong candidate which is more than likely, and I know you will revel in it.
If you remember correctly, it is I who thinks the idea of having a candidate just for the sake of being diverse isn’t right. All these people talking about how an African American isn’t on stage isn’t “acceptable”; you yourself keep spouting it, even though for different reason. I’ve said or asked here, possibly directing the question/comment to you, what would be next then, that an African American has to be on the ticket or the nominee? Are you going to tell me that I just have to vote for African American? So there isn’t an African American in the debates any longer and Harris dropped out – too bad.
To attack Mayor Pete for his experience or lack of, or for where he gets his campaign contributions from – fair game. What political experience does Steyer have? Did he ever get 1 vote? But that’s besides the point.
My comments of displeasure with Klobuchar was regarding her comments of the Bar (full of men only), to me it was a bit of a dog whistle. But you are obviously tone def. Period. At the least, I think her comment was sexist. She’s a woman, we can all see that, she has tits, we don’t need be reminded by her that she is woman…that to me is her weakness, that she and others have to keep reminding us that she’s a woman, just be a candidate for god’s sake. Kind of like if Obama played the race card against the candidates he was against when running. She’s playing the sex card. And she see’s Pete as a threat and she’s playing the sex card against him. I think she’s lower than The Hump in her subtle way. I actually feel sorry for her, she looks like she wants to cry every time she talks.
As far as Goldy’s friends, they better choose wisely, otherwise they’ll have many, many, many, many, many, many more years of The Hump. I’m ready for it, I hope they are.
Finally, I sometimes think that in the end, if Pete were to be the nominee or actually become President more so, that it would be a short lived joyful moment, and in the end not be that great for the gay community, because we all know what happened when a Black guy became President. There are too many homophobe bigots out there as there are racists; and many are even black, which would be more trouble.

I attended an event here in NYC this past Summer. In attendance was Chasten Buttigieg. A fundraiser held in Brooklyn at a local bar, outdoors along the East River. It was no cave, and there were no free refreshments. The cost of the donation $25.00. Sure, it wasn’t meant to target the wealthy, but anyone could have joined, even the wealthy. Kind of sad that they feel like they have to attend places in a cave that have big chandeliers. Says more about America than having to court these individuals.
Kind of like needing a horse.
WTF!? spews:
I was also offered as a member of the public to attend other events here in NYC for $500 (with dinner). But I couldn’t attend. I already had given about $1000.00 at the time in cash donations. And I’m no millionaire, like Bob as we know. But if I had paid $2800 I better get some wine, and I don’t even like wine.

@57 “No, I don’t think Mayor Pete should be installed as president without an election”
You can’t blame him for thinking that way, though, because that’s how Republicans think. To them, elections are just a damned nuisance to be dealt with by gerrymandering, voter suppression, bribing foreign governments, and whatever else is necessary to keep them from being democratic so a wildly unpopular minority party can extend its rule.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@57 “To attack Mayor Pete for his experience or lack of, or for where he gets his campaign contributions from – fair game. What political experience does Steyer have? ”

“Doxing” has evolved into “swatting,” which is a growing problem nationwide, and the Seattle Police Department is playing a leading role in developing methods to combat it.
SPD’s innovative program includes training 911 operators to spot “swatting” calls, training police in response tactics to potential “swatting” calls, and setting up a registry that enables persons who think they may become victims to flags their addresses as potential “swatting” targets. (There are 57 names on the Seattle registry, and 4 of them have been “swatted” since the registry was established.)
Doxxing and “swatting” have been around a long time, but now are being carried out by organized groups. Their targets include journalists, activists, tech executives, and online gamers.
“’One thing you can say about those kinds of bad actors is that they’re fundamentally opportunistic,’ said Whitney Phillips, an assistant professor of communication and rhetorical studies at Syracuse University who has written books on the history and evolution of online trolls and harassment. ‘They’re operating in a climate where: Who’s going to cry when journalists get attacked?’
“Phillips explained that the doxxing site and chats were ‘a more violent articulation’ of previous online harassment campaigns against journalists, including one waged early in 2019 in which trolls, and eventually even Donald Trump Jr., barraged Twitter accounts belonging to recently laid-off journalists with the message ‘Learn to Code,’ then denied any connection to the wave of death threats and gore that accompanied many of the messages.”

News is out that Kevin Costner will endorse Mayor Pete, and gman melts. It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen Costner’s butt onscreen.
WTF!? spews:
@74 point taken. But to run a campaign it takes money. Even Warren needs money to be successful. I guess different approaches are taken to get that money.
A presidential candidate or sitting president can be influenced by many outside forces at any point in time, before or after being inaugurated. Just because Warren is taking selfies, for free, with potential voters, doesn’t mean she would never be influenced by the “outside” forces.
Nor does it mean that Mayor Pete would be influenced by the “outside” forces, solely because of donations taken during the campaign.
If this were 100% the case (taking money from millionaires, billionaires, and Wall Street, etc..), then we have to question the integrity and trust of every potential candidate. Kind of like conviction before any evidence of wrongdoing or being found guilty without a trial.
This kind of goes along with what I was saying @64.
Understood with respect to @71, I forgot to mention the whole political process of passing laws and establishing policies and programs, but I did mention that there is a cabinet and advisors.
Sure there are nuances of differences between the candidates, but even when each of them answer the questions, generally speaking I like a little of each answer from each of them. My point regarding @64 is that we put these people up on a pedestal as individuals to determine who is the better candidate, but I would argue that none of them are better than the other to any large degree and that the best answers to the questions or problems are a combination of all their responses – take a little from each. One mind doesn’t have all the correct answers but yet that’s exactly the match or competition we put them under.
So sure, those other 535 individuals are part of the process. But they seem to all have their own agendas, whether it be party, or geographic region and demographic concerns – sometimes I think we would all be better served if we don’t always personally get what we want individually, crazy to say. It’s like a marriage – your marriage is going to end up in divorce, if you can’t compromise and always expect your spouse to do or think like yourself and vice versa.

Buzzfeed is the POS publication that made the entirety of the Steele dossier public. In January, about the time Trump’s son weighed in.
You, and the NBC News piece, conflate “Learn to code” with an implied threat of physical violence. You might as well suggest that the term “Fuck you.” is an implied threat of an actual physical rape, Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit.
Your logic is why your side will lose. Deservedly so.
Learn to code, Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit. You’ve been a failure as an attorney, and you only have a little time left to earn some money for your family.

He argues he wouldn’t, but it’s human nature to some extent, just a matter how far on the spectrum you go to be corrupt.
WTF!? spews:
Liberals must arm as in defend themselves? Depends on what context you put that statement. As a defensive measure its a must, I think you would even agree. As in a offensive move, well it could be good as preemptive to a forth coming assault. To do it as in a blatant assault, then could question it.

Roger Rabbit spews:
@80 More than just “rather hypocritical” that a shill for Republican gun policies (see, e.g., “arm toddlers”) complains about liberals defending themselves. The only “inherent violence” in “liberals must arm” is if someone attacks a liberal. Apparently we’re supposed to stand there and let ourselves be killed. I’m sure that’s what Ann Coulter wants when she talks about “executing” liberals.
What’s your next spiel, “The Americans had it coming at Pearl Harbor, because the Japanese felt threatened by our battleships”?
Idiot.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@81 Tell him we get more crony capitalism under Republicans than Democrats. He won’t believe you, but that’ll give you an opportunity to reel off a list of all the things Republicans do to stack the deck in favor of the rich and to the detriment of working people.
Here’s a little, but telling, one: Billionaires deduct the cost of their private jet travel from their taxes as business expenses, even when they use their jets for pleasure (e.g., trips to ski resorts), but a maid can’t deduct her bus fare to her housecleaning job.
Roger Rabbit spews:
One unintended consequence of the Ryan/McConnell/Trump Tax Relief Act For Billionaires, though, was that the lowest tax rate on capital gains and dividends is now higher than the lowest tax rate on wages (15% vs. 12%).
I’m sure this was a mistake, not intentional, because it’s very un-Republican. The GOP would never intentionally tax the income of passive investors like me who get paid for sitting on their lazy asses more than they tax productive work. In their world, workers are regarded with contempt, and gainful employment is to be punished, because if you weren’t born rich and have to work for a living you’re a “loser.”
Roger Rabbit spews:
@82 It’s sport. Everything we say here is in good clean fun. Even the “liberals must arm” and horse fucking bits. Right, Bob?
Bob is just having fun when he calls me a “failed lawyer,” and I’m just stating fun facts when I say he fucks horses. Right, Bob?
Your horse is nodding his head “yes.”
Roger Rabbit spews:
@84 Yeah, never mind that for years my “liberals must arm” comments have quoted rightwing threats against liberals (e.g., Ann Coulter’s comments about “executing” liberals), or that I’ve explicitly said the purpose is self-defense. That counts for nothing, because a dumbfuck is going to ignore context and read it in a way that feeds his victimhood complex, because that complex must be fed no matter what.
By the way, what do you think Major League Baseball should do about the umpire who tweeted he was going to buy an AR-15 and there would be “cival war” if Trump was impeached?
Should he be banned from posting on HA, if he ever comes here? Yes or no?
Roger Rabbit spews:

Except you. I don’t think you should be kicked off HA for endorsing a Seattle police officer’s unprovoked violence against Jesse Hagopian, for which Seattle taxpayers compensated him to the tune of $100,000.
Because trolls are scarce and hard to come by, and if you were kicked off HA we wouldn’t have anyone to verbally kick around now that Squid is gone, who some speculate was lynched by the very people he tried to befriend.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@86 “What a douche.”
That’s a given. It’s one of those things that’s so obvious it doesn’t need to be stated. But feel free to say it anyway.
I knew Bob was low, but I never expected him to take Japan’s side in that Pearl Harbor thing.
That surprised me. I assumed everyone recognizes self-defense as a universal right. I guess I forgot how many times conservatives have advocated preemptive war. About every other week since 1949.
@godwinha spews:
…but what do you think the odds are that Republicans will block any bill that makes swatting a federal crime?
Guess what, failed attorney @ 93?
Swatting’s a federal crime.
Viner and Gaskill were also charged with federal crimes as a result of Finch’s death. Viner—the man who allegedly asked Barriss to swat Gaskill—was charged with conspiracy. Gaskill was charged with wire fraud for giving Barriss the wrong address and then goading him into swatting it anyway. Both men are also in trouble for allegedly trying to destroy records of potentially incriminating chat messages.

Roger Rabbit spews:
Guess what armchair attorney @95? They were charged with “conspiracy” and “wire fraud” because swatting isn’t a federal crime. You would know that if you’d read the article linked @75.
Of course, you wouldn’t have read the article if you can’t read; or, even if you read the article, you still wouldn’t know that if your reading comprehension skills are zero.
There’s substantial empirical evidence of the latter in many of your recent comments.
Roger Rabbit spews:
I wonder why Bob is so scared of liberals arming to protect themselves? He has nothing to fear from that if he’s not planning any criminal attacks on liberals, and I have no reason to believe he is.

“Nor does it mean that Mayor Pete would be influenced by the “outside” forces, solely because of donations taken during the campaign.”
Didn’t say that. And I’m not sure that’s what this debate is really about, despite fairly obvious gaslighting by multi-millionaire media elites.
If wealthy people or really even people of modest means want to give lots and lots of money to individual candidates, PACs, and parties that’s their right. But when the people who do that do it in such a way as to create an expectation of privileged access to elected leaders that’s a problem for the rest of the people.
It only gets worse if campaign finance committees create programs and opportunities for those big donors that specifically trade that privileged access in exchange for big donations. Only some candidates and their finance committees are doing that. And it is at the very least a concern that we ought to be able to discuss without anyone collapsing into wounded tears. Especially if the people collapsing into wounded tears are mostly billionaires.
Doesn’t it bother you that you have expressed more concern about the malign influence of money over college athletics than you have over elected democratic government?
I’m not pointing any of this out to criticize you, or Buttigieg or any other candidate. Because most of them do it. Obama was shameless. As were both Clintons. But if we ever hope to break the stranglehold that money has over our elected government we have to start somewhere by talking about it the way it really is. Exclusive high donor access events are a feature of too many political campaigns. They are there often because big dollar donors who serve on the finance committees make sure the finance plan depends on them. And they don’t just deprive the majority of people of the attention and concern they deserve. They deprive the campaigns themselves of the energy and enthusiasm that can only come from a broad, deep, base of support that produces real voter engagement and turnout. Whoever the nominee winds up being they will lose in November without that.

This is far better than parsing Darryl’s words, because it’s gonna be why y’all libbies lose in 2020, too. Y’all have learned nothing from your Clinton experience. The most recent example is Joe Biden tossing union jobs over the side so he can kiss green job ass.

And I guess that’s what you have to prove, before accusing the parties of being guilty. Sure it opens people up to suspicion, but many actions can make people suspicious of a lot of things.
What if they just want to support the candidate they prefer or would like to support? How are they suppose to contribute? I’m almost nearing my $2800 limit….I doubt very much that that gives me privileged access. I think the privileged access doesn’t necessarily have to come with money. Hahah – just think of some College superstar athlete wanting to me one of the leaders. I bet he or she gets more privileged access to the leader than my money. Oh wait, there is probably some NCAA rule that says they can’t speak to any politicians…just kidding.
I don’t disagree with the notion that big money and PAC’s are not good but as you say it is their right, and until all parties are forbidden to do so, then why tie a person’s arm around their back?
I’m not here to debate the just and the bad of it, just saying that to convict an individual for being compromised in the future for receiving such donations isn’t necessarily correct either. And to think that you can take money out from the equation of governing in a capitalistic society is unrealistic.
To think that any candidate that objects to this and isn’t partaking or doesn’t have to fuel a campaign in this manner isn’t going to make decisions later as president that aren’t influenced by “outside” forces is wrong too – not suggesting that that’s what you think – just saying.

I may have mentioned the possibilities of malign influence of money over college athletics, but if college athletics wants to become the WWE I could care less.
My objection to college students being paid for playing sports is over the inclusion of taxpayer’s money as part of the whole scheme of things, including coaching staff and facilities that are funded with taxpayer’s money to the level of which they are.
Like I’ve said before, divorce the NCAA from the Institutions and get the taxpayer’s money out of it, and then pay these kids millions if you want to at the same time as giving them a tutor. Call it Pro Camp Training facilities.
Also, if I knew more of the rules, and regulations regarding this I could be more open to it. Such as, allowing a student to go it alone and have a job at Starbucks or limits of income levels before having the student pay his own way or receive no more than a limited amount of public funding. For example, the kid has income of $50,000 annually then he can afford to pay for some of his education. I use $50,000 just as a figure.
You tell me what you think the rules and regulations should be if it was your decision. Do you think a kid should be receiving income of say $50,000 or more annually and then directly or indirectly be part of a program that that same individual receives taxpayer’s money?
And because you brought it up in the same context….what if that same player then wanted to give Mayor Pete $2800.00 and attended the Cave event? Is he now one of the privileged few?
WTF!? spews:
When Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders and the other candidates speak of affordable education for all, I doubt they are really thinking that the education includes the concept of paying students for playing sports. I think they are speaking of education as in academics.
But I could be wrong – maybe part of their plan is to build more taxpayer funded stadiums and facilities to churn out Pro athletes, and to give the NCAA more status.
