https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2019/jul/18/did-ilhan-omar-marry-her-brother-her-hometown-news/
Seriously, this has been under the radar for more than a year, because the Strib wouldn’t give it the time of day. Once they did, Omar was uncooperative.
There’s very strong evidence that she married her brother in order to get him into the US. And now we’re seeing it on Drudge and Politifact.

Oberlin College wants to appeal the judgement against it for its behavior against the owners of a town bakery. But Oberlin College doesn’t want to post a bond for the money it owes while the appeal is in process. Here’s why:
The judgment interest rate in 2019 is 5%. Therefore, if appeals of this case last just three years, the total amount of post-judgment interest that Defendants will have to pay is $4,742,179.77 –which is $1,580,726.59 per year or $4,330.76 per day.

So, maybe the Bernie campaign workers shouldn’t have been asking for $15/hr. They should have been demanding overtime pay.
Sanders said field organizers, who are the lowest-ranking members of a presidential campaign and are typically in their 20s, make $36,000 a year with 100% employer-paid health care, as well as paid vacation and sick leave.
For a staffer working 40 hours a week, that comes out to about $17 an hour. But 40-hour workweeks on presidential campaigns are rare. Sanders said the campaign will limit the number of hours staffers work to 42 or 43 each week to ensure they’re making the equivalent of $15 an hour.

This is something interesting from One of my favorite YouTube channels. It’s a video about the Monument of the Federal German Republic to the Victim’s of War and Dictatorship. The Neu Wache Memorial was originally a guard house to one of the Royal palaces but was repurposed several times. The unit that provided the ceremonial guard in the days of the Reichswehr, the Berlin Guards Battalion of Regiment 9 Potsdam, had an interesting distinction. Many members of Regiment 9 were involved in the resistance plots.

For apartment-hunters in Santa Ana, California, a city about an hour south of Los Angeles, a $625-per-month sublet recently listed on Craigslist, a classified-advertising website, might seem ideal. The apartment, which is shared among four 20- and 30-somethings, is spacious, tidy and only minutes from a park. It comes with conditions, however: “No racists, no homophobes, no Trump supporters!” Discrimination of this sort is not uncommon on Craigslist, which is based in San Francisco. Toni, an artist seeking a flatmate in Ann Arbor, Michigan, advises potential applicants, “I won’t live with anyone bigoted, racist, sexist, or Trump supporting.” Another Craigslist-poster in Missoula, Montana warns, “Trump supporters need not apply”.

Dow breast implant case spotlights Elizabeth Warren’s work helping big corporations navigate bankruptcies
“She was on the wrong side of the table,” said Sybil Goldrich, who co-founded a support group for women with implants and battled the companies for years. Goldrich said Dow Corning and its parent “used every trick in the book” to limit the size of payouts to women. The companies, she added, “were not easy to deal with at all.”
A person familiar with Warren’s role who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe litigation strategy said the future senator was part of a Dow defense team that had containing the company’s liability as a goal.
Heap big wampum paid to her, too.

Trump didn’t have to be wonderful, or even likable. He just had to have fewer flaws than the miserable excuse for a human being that the Democrats staked their future on. Speaking of tort lawyers,The NFL are still litigating not having to pay the settlement they agreed to for decades of knowledge about the link between concussions suffered by players and deteriorating mental health and later. CTE.
But be sure to stand for the flag you sons of bitches!
Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
47,
I have no idea what firm/firms are repping the NFL here.
But that really isn’t the point. John Grisham novels notwithstanding, a lawyers job is to represent the client, including the client’s financial interest. A client can walk into a meeting and say “Settle this. Capitulate. Give them everything they want. I order you to do this for me. It is what I want.” And any lawyer worth their salt will still call a time out, get them to put it all in writing, and demand witnesses and a hearing in front of a judge.
Our system isn’t perfect, but it’s quite a bit better than most of the others. And it really does depend on this. It depends on advocacy. Ideally it should be symmetrical. It often is not. The way to fix that does not actually include one side or the other fucking off and failing to do their job properly. And if you think civil is bad, it’s a fucking Utopian ideal compared to the criminal system.
I'llHaveAPilsner spews:
@48
With the NFL it is a little Murky. They went through discovery and initial motions and then settled the case before trial. Made a big splash in the media about “doing right by our legacy players.”
Then after signing the agreement they filed suit to break it citing that they had not anticipated the number of players that would be eligible for payment. So either their law firm was inept during settlement negotiations or they never had any intention of living up to the settlement which is legally dubious.
But most fans just know that the NFL settled the concussion case because no one is covering it anymore.
But a player kneeling is apparently beyond the pale.
