    There’s so much shit happening under Trump that the only way the Republican Party can protect him is by collapsing all civilized standards of conduct. Proud Boys beat up protesters outside Trump venues (but, thankfully, still go to jail for it); inside the rally halls, Trump encourages his audiences to assault the reporters present. Truth is thrown to the winds, and lies are defended with near-religious fervor. Religion is demeaned and debased in service of a nonreligious man with a pagan belief system. Trolls don’t put quote marks around quoted material. This is what societal collapse looks like. I’m not sure we’re going to survive it. However, last November’s mass eviction of Republicans from Congress was a good start and a hopeful sign of more re-imposition of sanity to come. But after voting and/or impeaching Republicans out of office, what will we do with a GOP that has come to resemble a mass escape of sexual predators and deranged criminals from a loony asylum? Maybe if the border wall is built we can keep them penned on this side of it while we escape to Canada and Mexico.

    Fight fire with fire. All you have to do is get so twisted like them, to the point where it doesn’t matter what they say because nobody will want to listen to them and the everything will right itself.

    They can say what ever they want to say – free speech – right.

    The problem is when people start to believe the shit they spew. If you muddy the water so much, nobody will believe anything anymore, including their shit, and we will all then start to think for ourselves – at that point hopefully the more educated turn out on top.

    Now don’t stop speaking the truth, just twist their bullshit to the point where people will question their bullshit and then believe in the truth.

People who believe in fantasies and reject basic facts plain before their eyes can’t be expected to fix potholes, keep libraries open, combat child sex trafficking, reduce deficits while maintaining essential programs and services, or prevent nuclear weapons proliferation.

    Generally speaking, people who can’t do anything right, won’t do anything right. And that pretty much includes all Republicans, from grassroots GOP voters up to the moron in the White House.

    Mostly I think it’s sorta cute that Ms. Romney is trying to pretend that the GOP has any sort of coherent policy program beyond WALL!!, SHITDOWN!!, and billionaire tax cuts.

    It’s well worth remembering that the current era of Republican political dominance we have been living through was brought about by a sustained effort at building the party from the ground up, one state legislature at a time, with a scientific focus on policy and legislation leveraged into the mainstream using appeals to nativism, resentment, and fear. The policy is entirely gone now leaving only the nativism, resentment and fear. It remains an open question if a national political party can sustain itself on these alone.

    @21 Police departments just aren’t doing a good enough job of screening recruits, keep unsuitable people off the force, or disciplining rogue officers. Too often, they eagerly snap up other departments’ castoffs to save on training costs. It was such an officer, fired by one department for mental unsuitability and hired by another department motivated by getting a pre-trained officer on the cheap, who gunned down Tamir Rice.

    When this happens, another innocent life is lost to out-of-control police violence, a multimillion-dollar settlement to the victim’s family comes out of taxpayers’ hides, and nothing happens to the cop or his supervisors.

    It’s time for a housecleaning at America’s police departments.

    In other words, he’s almost as big a fibber as Trump. Plus, “his ideas are bad, tired, and dangerous.” It’s hard to see daylight between his platform and Paul Ryan’s, i.e. slash Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to roll back Republican debt so billionaires like him can keep their Trumpian tax cuts (which any decent Democrat would repeal).
