This Democrat was such a threat to his colleagues that some of them took to wearing bullet-proof vests when in legislative chambers.
In a historic move, Thornton Democrat Steve Lebsock was expelled today by the Colorado House of Representatives in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment by at least eleven women, including Democratic colleague Representative Faith Winter.
After hours of testimony, personal battles with sexual harassment and assault, and tears, the chamber voted 52 to 9 to expel Lebsock. The House needed at least 44 votes to give Lebsock the boot. Expulsion is the most severe form of punishment for a lawmaker and has only been exercised by the House one other time…
http://www.westword.com/news/t.....t-10049948
Here’s the best part:
Before he was expelled, Lebsock switched from being a Democrat to being a Republican, meaning the GOP will get to fill his seat.

Interesting, that’s your takeaway? The Republicans get to fill his seat. That may be true but what is more telling is apparently the Republicans are willing to accept another man that sexually harassed women into their ranks. Colorado GOP, has no shame. Maybe Rob Porter should move to Colorado for the open seat.

You’re right, Newt. Bill Clinton’s sexual harassment and subsequent penalties bear no relationship whatsoever to what just happened in CO.

Justice Department processing pardon case for sailor Trump compared to Hillary Clinton
After allowing Saucier to serve his full prison sentence, Trump publicly mentioned him again on Jan. 2, tweeting: “Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols. She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act?”
Saucier, who was 22 years old when he took the cellphone photos in 2009, told the Washington Examiner after Trump’s tweet that he was glad Trump remembered him. “I made an innocent mistake as a kid, it wasn’t planned like Hillary Clinton and them blatantly flouting the law,” he said.

“relinquished his license to practice law prior to full disbarment before the US Supreme Court.”
Not a problem to bring that up, glad you did. So why would a POTUS, or former POTUS want to practice law in front of the US Supreme Court? Especially since Clinton appointed two SCOTUS justices in which they would have to probably recuse themselves from any case he argued in front of the SCOTUS.
I’m sure Clinton saw the act of relinquishing his license as a very simple act and his license was no longer needed, yet folks like you get worked up into a lather over it.

Well, you’re right in that his disbarment could have been 7-0 instead of 9-0. Would that have made you feel better about it?
A per curiam decision would have been more likely, as it would permit RBG and Breyer to be included in the determination that Bill Clinton is unfit to appear before the Court.
I’m sure Clinton saw the act of relinquishing his license as a very simple act …

While I can’t speak to Bill’s actual decision process, given his legal mind and skills, he deduced that voluntarily relinquishing his license was the most judicious way to reduce collateral damage. As a doctor, I would think you would understand that concept. Guess not.

So, we have a “president” who admits he likes chaos, and who openly disparages his wife in public.
I’m almost beginning to feel sorry for Melania. She was just another poor, uneducated Slovenian peasant woman, with no other choices in life but to be trained into the Courtesan Arts and tossed out into the world as a teenager with no real defenses.
Then she was dragged into the political life of a philandering, sadistic career criminal and is now in the position of being more or less trapped in a foreign country and just trying to just keep up appearances while her husband goes about looting his own Country and fencing it through a Mafiosi-run and openly hostile foreign government that everyone but him considers to be an Asshole State. Meanwhile, everyone else not actively participating in that theft and looting is left to scramble around in their attempts to mitigate the damage he’s doing to the United States and our standing in the world in general. The Political Party that he has associated with continues to defend him with all the vigorousness of a rabid house cat.
We are no longer part of the solution. Puerto Rico demonstrates that perfectly. We no longer help people pick themselves up after a disaster, we are now a nation that manufactures disasters so we can profit from the resulting chaos by selling them weapons of mass destruction.
On credit, of course.

How is it possible that none of these people have been arrested yet?
Borrow money from one bank, deposit it in another bank in another country, then use that as collateral to borrow more money from a different bank in a different nation, transfer that money around from bank to bank and use some of it to buy office buildings and the like, then use the value of those buildings to borrow more money to finance an expensive personal lifestyle. When it all starts falling apart, just declare bankruptcy and wash one’s hands. The taxpayers pay the debts and one gets to keep their Bentleys and personal jets and the buildings purchased with those fraudulent loans. When the lenders start getting sniffy, just use some of that money to hire a public-relations firm to plant bylines in newspapers and television media about how crooked and underhanded they are.
When a bank loans someone $100,000, that someone has a problem. When that same bank loans a person $100,000,000, the bank has a problem. When a bank loans someone $350,000,000 with no collateral, the Government has a problem. When that Government is run by criminals, everyone has a problem, and the poor are the only ones who die to settle the accounts so the thieves can keep their lifestyles.
Live the high life; Nice cars, giant yachts, houses all over the world, all the cocaine, hookers and expensive booze one can handle, jetting around the world to meet and associate with other pseudo-rich assholes in the same “business” as you are, dining with them in the sort of restaurants where they don’t even hand you a check at the end of the meal because they know they “might” be paid eventually but everyone who is anyone considers them to be fashionable and any dine and dash can be explained away, expensed to the “business” and the bill quietly settled a few months later for a few pennies on the dollar, and written off the taxes.
People who know that any meal in such an establishment is more about the dining experience than the food, and in any case, having one’s publicity manager being close to hand while one is presented with a Kobe Beef steak the size of a old style silver dollar, and pate de foi gras layered in gold leaf prepared by a Chef making a six-figure salary, and $10,000 bottles of wine is enough to make the plebes admire you enough to let your theft of services slide, because you absolutely must be such an “important” person that you were blessed by god with such immeasurable wealth.

Newt Hoenikker spews:
Darryl has been kind enough to include science articles to change things up. The latest post had to do with relativity which deals in part with perspective.
I apologize in advance for the lengthy cut and paste.
Here is some perspective that the astronomer Carl Sagan wrote about Earth:
“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there–on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

Roger Rabbit spews:
@55 The Kansas lawsuit raises two crucial questions:
1. How many non-citizens actually vote? (Virtually all studies show there’s not a significant problem)
2. Should state officials seeking partisan advantage be allowed to require more evidence of citizenship than an oath, the traditional and widely used proof of citizenship, to register to vote?
An unstated third issue is the credibility and motives of the defendant seeking to impose stringent proof requirements on his state’s (and, if he can, the whole country’s) aspiring voters.
Court verdicts, including those that can send a person to prison for life, are routinely based on witness testimony given under oath. In the legal system, sworn testimony is sufficient proof, period. If there’s a question about its credibility, it can be disregarded; if a non-citizen falsely attests under oath he is a citizen, his voting registration can be challenged and voided. Many legal transactions are based on nothing more than a declarant’s oath or affirmation. Yet Kobach argues a voter’s declaration of citizenship given under oath isn’t enough to exercise the most fundamental of all constitutional rights.
That’s pure unmitigated bullshit.
Kobach arguably could be excused on grounds of ignorance if he had no legal training or background. But he’s a Yale-educated lawyer. Beyond that are massive educational credentials: A Harvard degree in government, and M.A. and Ph.D. from Oxford.
He’s a smart guy. He knows better. He’s a partisan vampire and Satan should reserve an especially hot place in Hell for him as punishment for fucking with American citizens’ precious right to vote, a right that many have fought and died for. But Kobach, not being a veteran, doesn’t know anything about the latter.
What we have here is a highly educated guy steeped in law who flouts the law, which makes him a perfect hitman for Republicans who want to strip American citizens of their voting rights. You can’t even get this fucker to comply with local zoning ordinances and building codes:
“Kobach, his wife, and their children live on their farm …. Their residence is in a building, the permits for which Kobach originally received lower taxation and permitting fees due to claimed intent for agricultural exemptions, rather than residential use. … When building it, Kobach ‘closed in’ the plumbing and electric work so it was not possible for the building inspector to examine it without tearing up the floor and removing walls that covered wiring. There was no septic system or water source.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris_Kobach
Lawless. Everything Kobach does is lawless, because that’s his mentality. This lawsuit needs to be understood in that context.

She chose this life. She could have milked cows, gathered eggs, and churned butter if she wanted to, and nobody would have dragged her through an unending trough of pig shit like Trump does.
Imho, I think there should be a rule that the Secret Service won’t interfere in the domestic relations of the president’s family, even if the First Lady is armed. Her marital rights should override the interests of the state in leadership continuity.

Can you really blame him?
You rightly point out, Kobach is a very smart guy. Smart enough to see an opportunity of a lifetime. Way ahead of Trump, Bannon, and Putin, Kris Kobach recognized the huge opportunity embodied by 63 million profoundly stupid, aging, insecure, angry, racist trailerbillies like Doctor Dumbfuck and the rest of the Republican vote. By getting out ahead of it he transformed himself into a national player in Republican politics, and a likely contender for a future Republican nom for President. If it happened tomorrow Kobach would probably crush Mittens the way Trump crushed Jeb.

Has Goldy just gotten tired of doing the Sunday bible verse, or got tired of the guff he gets from it. No way to throw up a story from todays news.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/what-did-jesus-look-like-probably-not-what-you-think/ar-BBJGTwL?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp
So Christ may look a lot more like Puddy than most of us on the list. Glad to see you all care. Of course the fact that there is no Sunday bible verse and no Puddy could be connected. Perhaps Puddy is Goldie’s alter ego. Perhaps there is some conspiracy going on, though it probably does not involve anyone wearing a white sheet, or his church. Could it have been they both celebrated Purim and came down with the stomach flu.
Now If Goldie is merely tired to doing the weekly bible verse he could take a page out of the Sunday morning political talk shows. Pick out an obscure political topic. Like are Naval Surface fleets antiquated in modern warfare or Free Tibet. The Seahwaks suck, or the true religion of America is football. Write one side himself, have Carl or another contributor write something on the other side. Maybe keep the length to between 500 words to 20000 words. Or whatever he wants to come up with. He could also assign this task to posters who frequently post. And assign one side o the argument to two people on the list. Both have to make a good faith effort to argue their point. And it’s perfectly ok for the owner to intentionally assign individuals who would seem to be on the opposite to argue the opposing view. This maybe too much work, but it would put the oomph back into Horseass.org.
Just a suggestion to get the vigor of HA up in an off election year. If he’s tired of doing the Bible verses and wants to quit doing them that is fine too, just announce that.

Clearly it’s time for Washington State to reconsider having metal detectors at our court houses. It’s time to bring back the justice as done by Judge Roy Bean who never needed a metal detector at his court, because his six gun was right on his desk. Or on his hip. He was justice. And all about the justice, and his six gun kept the peach in his court. Yep we should have pistol packing judges here. or they can choose to have fully automatic rifles courtesy of the Sheriff’s Department. Juries may make the correct decision. The one the Judge would have made. (Judge Dread was never wrong.) This could be interesting at our Appeals Court and Supreme court with multiple armed judges, but it should bring up the viewership of the Washington courts on TV. People will watch for a reason similar to why people really go to the Daytona 500. Ok it could be the beer and titties, but only if you stay inside the oval.
So it’s time for Armed Justice in Washington State. And the Taxpayers will save as there will be no need to those x ray machines and guards at county court houses. Could even bring the press back into the court room.

@79 Both Democrats and Republicans try to limit the vote in a number of ways. Neither party would want to put in place the Australian requirement that voters must show up at the polls (they don’t have to vote or cast a blank ballot), or have gotten a waiver, or have an good excuse as they will end up paying a civil fine for not showing up at the polls. Do any of you support such a draconian policy? Making Republicans and Independents show up at the polls surely displeases the partisans on here. At least election day is a holiday in Australia. I think the State of Washington’s legislature should get on this and pass a similar measure, only it’s bound to die in committee like nearly every gun control effort in this years legislative session. Our Democratic legislature in this progressive state is not at all likely to pass such a policy even though they have all the reins of power. Or because they have all the reins of power.

But we knew this already. He’s a thief. That is really all he has ever been. Back in the 80’s he was somewhat infamous for dining and dashing on $80,000 restaurant bills.
It’s been almost two decades since a North American or British bank would do business with him and the only people that do banking business with him are black-market money laundering operations in Cypress and Panama, and only if he could guarantee cash backing from Russian oligarchs and mafiosi. He borrowed almost a $Billion from Deutches Bank in Germany, then tried to pay that loan off by borrowing more from Deutches Bank in Newfoundland, Canada without disclosing that it was an attempt to pay off one loan with another, or which bank that other loan was taken from. That is Bank Fraud, in one of the most basic definitions of the term.

Kris Kobach, not illegal voting, is the fraud in this picture.
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/kris-kobach-trial-voting-rights_us_5a9a072fe4b0a0ba4ad37328
Roger Rabbit Commentary: I posted about this case yesterday. Kobach, a smart lawyer who has degrees from elite schools, has become the point man in the GOP’s long campaign to prevent American citizens from voting in their own country.
Of course, you must be a citizen to vote, and none of us want our voice diluted by illegal voting. But we don’t want our voice, or voices of those entitled to vote, silenced either.
An illegal vote may slip through the checks here and there. (Numerous investigations and studies have shown this is a statistically miniscule occurrence bordering on nil.) But anyone with common sense will agree that disenfranchising 1,000 or 10,000 eligible voter to prevent 1 illegal vote isn’t illogical, it’s evil.
The existing system is that you swear under penalty of perjury that you are a citizen. This makes you a witness to a material fact, i.e. that you are a citizen. That can be challenged by anyone with information to the contrary. It can be investigated if there is suspicion it isn’t true. Those are the checks.
This system puts the burden of disproving your citizenship on whoever wants to prevent you from voting. In a free and open democracy that’s where the burden should be.
Kobach and his ilk want to upend this and put an upfront burden of proof on you that assumes you’re lying on your voter registration form and rejects your credibility as a witness out of hand — no matter law-abiding you are, how hard you work, how much taxes you pay, or even whether you’ve served in the military.
Under that is a darker current — one that assumes you are not a citizen if your skin is darker, or your name looks foreign, or you wear a hijab. And an even darker vein of thought that believes even citizens shouldn’t be allowed to vote if they’re too different in language, culture, or political thinking from those who want to decide themselves who gets to vote.
That’s what this is all about. And no, Mark, the Democrats don’t do it too. Modern vote suppression is strictly a Republican shtick. Shame on them for trying to strip millions of our fellow citizens of their most basic right.
Some people can be forgiven, however reluctantly, for their stupidity. But Kobach is too smart a man to qualify as stupid. He is evil.
