To put this into perspective, the carbon output of hitting “send” on 65 mails is on par with driving an average-sized car a kilometre (0.6 of a mile).

The piece doesn’t delve specifically into cost per keystroke, but I suspect that if YLB employed apostrophes as frequently as the average adult male instead of like a teenage girl, he’d probably reduce his carbon output by about as much as the average California redwood tree consumes in a year.

Planned Parenthood, which delivers reproductive health care and sex education to women and men across the United States, has come under attack before. But the group said Friday night that it didn’t know anything about this facility being “targeted deliberately.”
Might have to do with none of their staff having been injured. Meanwhile, a cop was shot 350 yards away, outside a Chase bank.

What are you feeling, Darryl? Opportunism? Or are the unsubstantiated Loughner allegations still fresh enough
http://voices.washingtonpost.c.....regis.html
that doing the Roger Rabbit/Willy Vomit thing seems premature to you?
It “seems” to me to be pretty much what it “seems” to you to be. Maybe there’s a manifesto in that house yet to be searched. And yet the guy was interviewed by police, who don’t have a motive they’re willing to share, he managed not to cause physical harm to PP staff (safe room?) while successfully killing others at substantial range, and PP as of last night wasn’t even sure it was targeted.
All of which just might suggest that things are not what they seem.
RR said the bank info came from the right, I pointed out similar info from a left-leaning source. Willy Vomit wants it to be a Christian crusader gone over the top, I point out that he at least isn’t a registered Republican.

Roger Rabbit spews:
@4 I see Boob has been trolling rightwing blogs for ideas on how to spin this. No, Boob, it wasn’t a bank job gone bad. Nobody robs banks with propane tanks. The reason why no PP staff or patients were hurt is because the PP building is a fortress equipped with bulletproof glass, surveillance systems, and safe rooms. They were in the safe rooms, Boob, where the conservative jihadist couldn’t get at them. So he had to content himself with shooting cops.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Btw, Boob wasn’t the first HA poster to mention the “bank job gone bad” meme. I alerted HA readers to it yesterday after spotting it on “Gateway Pundit,” a rightwing loose brake pad. Parroting such third party idiocy is just so like Boob, who’s never had an idea of his own in his entire life.

Is Right Wing Extremism the Biggest Danger Facing America?
"There's an acceptance now of the idea that the threat from jihadi terrorism in the United States has been overblown. And there's a belief that the threat of right-wing, anti-government violence has been underestimated." John G. Horgan, former Director of Terrorism and Security Studies , University of Massachusetts at Lowell
A Planned Parenthood clinic in Washington state was set on fire over the weekend. Officials determined the cause of the fire was arson.
The fire follows a series of videos released by anti-abortion activists appearing to show Planned Parenthood executives boasting of profits made from the sale of fetal tissue. The videos were later found to be "deceptively edited" by an independent investigator.
Accordingly, such extreme right groups have carried out more acts of terror in the United States than have Islamic militants.
Ekim spews:
Has FAUX NOISE claimed the shooter to be a left wing supporter of Planned Parenthood yet?
Boob wants to know.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Unlike Boob’s casual trolling of third-rate genealogy websites, this article by professional investigative journalists at Mother Jones may help shed some light on what’s going on:
“Three people were shot dead and nine others were injured Friday at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood clinic, the first time since 2009 that anyone has been killed in an incident linked to activity at an abortion clinic.
“The attack comes amid an exponential increase in threats and violence against abortion providers since the release of a series of viral—and widely debunked—videos.
“While police have not discussed the alleged motives of the suspect, who has been arrested, the attack began at the clinic. According to authorities, the gunman entered the facility Friday afternoon and began shooting. During an hours-long standoff, he exchanged fire with police, killing one officer.
“Since the release of the Center for Medical Progress’ videos that purport to show Planned Parenthood selling fetal issue, harassment, threats, and attacks against abortion providers, their staff, and facilities have surged dramatically across the country, according to new numbers from the National Abortion Federation. ‘We have been quite worried that this increase in threats would lead to a violent attack.’
“The clinic attacked on Friday is part of the Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountains affiliate, which was featured in the Center for Medical Progress’ videos.”
http://www.motherjones.com/pol.....s-shooting
Again, police haven’t discussed possible motives, and the suspect is cooperating with police, so we’re likely to find out soon, and we probably want to withhold judgment until there’s some sort of official announcement on the subject. But based on what we know so far, I would counsel Boob against running with the botched-bank-job theory just yet.

Roger Rabbit spews:
I occasionally pick up a Sunday Times at the public libary, where they give them away free (as a promotion, I guess), and I often look at their “Jobs” section out of curiosity, even though I’m not looking for a job. Every time I read about the mental gymnastics people have to go through in job interviews, and what they have to put up with on the job, I’m reminded of how much capitalism stinks from workers’ point of view. Fortunately, I’m a capitalist, not a worker, so I don’t have to put up with any of this chickenshit.
This week’s topic is the “shrinking office,” as in smaller desks and personal spaces. That’s right, employers are going the airline route by cramming more warm bodies into tighter spaces, in order to move a few more shekels to the bottom line.
“That means fewer private offies, more standing desks, open-plan seating, desk-sharing, and — for many of those lucky enough to hang on to their personal space –smaller footprints, with a typical cubicle shrinking from a relatively roomy 8 feet by 10 feet to a snug 6 by 6.”
The label they’re slapping on these cozier offices is “collaborative space,” which is a euphemism for having coworkers in your face (and their elbows in your ribs) all day long.
Meanwhile, while workspaces and paychecks are shrinking, workdays and work hours are expanding: “Mobile technology is untethering employees from the office and extending their workdays, replacing a 9-to-5 job with a ’24/7 work-life blend.'”
I assume that means you work 64 hours a week, and are on call the other 64 hours in a week, but only get paid for 40 hours. The employer gets those other hours out of you for free.
As a capitalist, if you work for one of the companies whose stock I own, I’m not going to get too concerned about it. After all, that’s a lifestyle choice you made. You didn’t have to work for a gluttonous rabbit like me. In fact, you wouldn’t have to work at all, if you became a capitalist like me!

GOP Congressman Demands Apology From Planned Parenthood For Colorado Springs Shooting
“In the wake of the shooting, Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountain, which runs the Colorado Springs clinic, … said ‘we share the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country.’
“The health care provider drew immediate criticism from at least one conservative, with Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Illinois, criticizing the organization’s reaction as ‘very premature.’
“‘We may find out this person was targeting Planned Parenthood,’ Kinzinger said Friday on CNN. ‘If we find out he was not targeting Planned Parenthood, I would fully expect an apology from the Planned Parenthood director for saying that.'”
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/pr.....-shooting/
Roger Rabbit Commentary: I have three things to say to Rep. Kinzinger. First of all, he can go fuck himself under any and all circumstances. Secondly, it now appears rather conclusively that the shooter did target Planned Parenthood. Third, I think he owes PP an apology.
Mark Adams spews:
It appears the local constabulary did a pretty good job with plenty Federal help in the planned parent hood. They got the guy alive. He has rights but he maybe talking. So it maybe possible if he got that morning and just decided to do this criminal act, or there is a whole other level here. It is possible that the uptick in serious crime events at the clinics is coincidence, and people acting negatively to what is in the news. Kinda like that movie that came out before the Libyan embassy fiasco. We can use the Republican game book and plans to go no it’s a terrorist plot, and someone in government didn’t do their job.

He is an enemy combatant in a global war. As such he is not entitled to due process beyond what is described in our international treaties. Furthermore, since our greatest legal authorities have weighed the matter with much sobriety and careful consideration, he may be subjected to great levels of physical discomfort up to, but not including, permanent physical harm, as a means of compelling his cooperation with investigators. He should at least be waterboarded. That’s the law, of course.

Roger Rabbit spews:
@36 “They got the guy alive.”
Of course, it helped that he was white. This won’t have been possible if he’d been black.
This guy shot 5 cops, 1 of whom died, plus 11 other people, 2 of whom died, and he’s not only alive but still in one piece. Meanwhile, black people who commit minor shoplifting and traffic infractions are failing to survive at the hands of the police.
I’m sure the disparity isn’t lost on anyone.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@42 Well let’s see how Bickle’s bank-robber theory is holding up. Here’s his ex-wife describing him:
“He was religious but not a regular churchgoer, a believer but not one to harp on religion. ‘He believed wholeheartedly in the Bible,’ she said. ‘That’s what he always said; he read it cover to cover to cover.’ But he was not fixated on it, she added. He was generally conservative, but not obsessed with politics. He kept guns around the house for personal protection and hunting, and he taught their son to hunt doves, as many Southern fathers do. He believed that abortion was wrong, but it was not something that he spoke about much.”
So what we have here is a Bible-thumping southern Baptist conservative who’s pro-gun, anti-Obama, and a right-to-lifer.
Not looking good for Boob, is it?

Asked whether opponents of abortion should tone down their rhetoric, he said both sides should do so.”

“Violence is a tragedy and those who perpetuate violence, be they Dear or Cecile Richards — and let’s be serious, here, in terms of mere fatalities, Dear can’t hold a candle to Richards — should be punished to the full extent of the law.”
Richards, in case you don’t know, is president of Planned Parenthood. Which makes her a mass murderer in this conservative’s eyes. I guess this makes logical sense for people who equate abortion with murder. It’s the writer’s next statement that descends into gibberish:
“Richards should be punished to the full extent of the law.”
For what, advocating something that’s already legal? Because the writer thinks it shouldn’t be? Even if you accept the latter argument, this assertion still has problems: What the writer actually condemns, and would punish, is free speech (unless he can prove Richards has personally performed abortions), plus he would do it ex poste facto.
But we expect conservatives to be stupid, don’t we?

If you want to understand how GOP candidates can get away with such ridiculous statements and still have followers, read this article:

It explains why Republican voters are deaf to facts and reason.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Meanwhile, the GOP’s House Majority Leader acknowledges that America has made progress on carbon emissions, but gives the credit to oil and gas companies — not coal regulations, clean fuel standards, CAFE, and other government interventions in the workings of the “free” market.

Roger Rabbit Commentary: One thing that hasn’t changed, and will never change, is that believing something doesn’t make it true. Although you also gotta wonder how much of their own propaganda these whore politicians actually believe.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@63 You know where Cruz got that from, don’t you? Here:
http://www.thegatewaypundit.co.....-activist/
That’s right, Cruz lifted it straight out of a headline in Gateway Pundit. For a quick rundown on who/what Gateway Pundit is, read this:
http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/The_Gateway_Pundit
They, in turn, got it from an unidentified “private genealogy website using a purchased copy of the Colorado voter list.” Their website contains an image of a purported record which almost certainly has Dear’s name pasted over that of the previous owner of the Colorado property he purchased in October 2014, with her information still appearing below his name. From this, Gateway Pundit — and Cruz — extrapolated that Dear was a woman, born in 1958, who registered as “unaffiliated” with any party. And made no effort to check out this fantastic story, the reason for that of course being that it says what they want it to, so why mess with a good thing?
Those of you with long memories will recall that after the ultra-close 2004 Washington gubernatorial election, Republicans here and nationally made a great deal of noise about how out-of-date and error-prone voter registration lists are. Those with somewhat shorter memories may nevertheless recall that the inaccuracy of voter registration lists is the justification Republicans have used in state after state to purge hundreds of thousands of legitimate voters from voting rolls, along with a few dead ones (of whom there is no evidence of any of them voting) and a handful of illegitimate ones. For the purpose of preventing American citizens, especially those of color, from voting in their own country, there are no louder complainers about inaccurate voting lists than Republicans.
So, you’d think a Republican senator who wants to be president would have his campaign staff check out the accuracy of this voter record before drawing wild inferences from it and running with that in his campaign speeches, yes?
Nah.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Cruz isn’t the only rightwing lunatic who will run with this. Bickle and Puffybutt will be on board by tomorrow morning. Wait for it.

@69 well if that be the case I wonder if Darryl will start censoring or deleting and further banning them for being bigotted for pointing out the transgender part. Otherwise it could start a bad precedence here on calling out all the other murders out there on heterosexual maniacs.
And if Dear was transgender he sure must have been one ugly woman.

Boston
The good news for Rush Limbaugh: One month after being notified he was getting dumped by his Boston talk radio host station, the talker has a new AM home in the city.
The bad news: The station currently boasts a 0.6 rating, trails four non-commercial stations in the market, and becomes yet another big-city, cellar-dwelling outpost that Limbaugh is forced to call home.
Ekim spews:
The ratings have gotten so bad for Rush Limbaugh that radio stations no longer want to carry his show.
The advertiser boycott of Rush Limbaugh brought public attention to the sewer that conservative talk radio has become, but as Republican Daryl Parks wrote when rumors of Limbaugh getting moved to a smaller station in Chicago surfaced, radio station executives don’t want Limbaugh, but literally can’t give him away, “The Chicago rumors come as no surprise to me, as three different Cumulus executives have told me on different occasions they wish they could get rid of Limbaugh’s show and they can’t sell it.”
Parks also explained why these stations are stuck with Limbaugh, “Premiere Networks and its owner Clear Channel Media + Entertainment iHeart Media has crammed down Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck on its talk stations, not allowing local stations to make needed changes to their programming, changes that could provide some hope of staying relevant. It was a great business model…in the 20th century! In business speak it’s called “vertical integration.” The company produces the product and then uses its distribution arm, its radio stations, to broadcast the shows. Guaranteed clearance, plus in Limbaugh’s case and some of Hannity’s stations, the local stations have to pay a “rights fee” in addition to the barter commercial inventory they broadcast from the network. There was no negotiation whether to broadcast the show or what fee was to be paid. Here’s the number you pay was the only conversation during the budget process. This, as you can imagine, affected cash flow and coupled with the increasing demands for talk stations to generate more profit, it forced local stations to lay-off other talk hosts, producers and gut news departments. Talented people left the radio business and the death spiral for talk radio began. It began years ago.”

@71 Republicans are no help in separating truth from fiction; that said, we recognize Hillary isn’t perfect, but what alternatives do we have? So there you have it.

While patriotic American heroes give their lives to defend our freedoms, Republican Colorado Attorney General traitor continues to permit this nest of terrorist vipers to proliferate. When will these Republicans honor their oaths and protect us from the terrorists?
Distant Replay spews:
Republican oath breakers erect legal barricades to protect extremist conservative terrorists who continue to plot against our freedoms, easily converting assault rifles to fully automatic operation, formulate ricin bombs, manufacture hand gun silencers, build enormous fertilizer bombs, and target innocent patriotic Americans. The deadly terrorists are here, on our shores, living in our communities. And they enjoy the protection of Republican oath breakers who refuse to allow honorable patriotic law enforcement agencies to round them up and put them away for their treason.

300 million privately owned guns in U.S. (very conservative estimate, about one third of the privately owned guns on the planet) concentrated in 43 million households (about a third of all households), resulting in an mean average of seven guns in each gun owning household in the U.S.
But mean averages can be deceiving.
About 9 million of those gun households contain about 200 million of those guns, averaging over twenty two guns per household. Fewer than eight percent of American households amassing arsenals of over twenty two guns per household.
The trendlines indicate continued reduction in the overall percentage of U.S. households owning guns, continuing increases in the number of guns, and thus, naturally, continuing concentration of large numbers of firearms in fewer households. The demographic trendlines demonstrate clear divisions among gun owning households. A relatively small number of gun owning households amass very large arsenals of guns. The vast majority of gun owning households contain two or fewer guns.
The nearest ISIS held territories are more than 10,000 km away from the United States.
Refugees are not allowed to enter the United States with guns.
What are you afraid of?

@62 At the moment unless there are others involved that is just a bureaucratic requirement, and an investigator will show up, take statements, end up talking to the guys attorney and file a report. Unless this loner is part of a group going after the President there is no reason to do much else. He’s going to be in the hands of Colorado for a very long time. He’s not getting out on bail. He’s in jail. When is the trial? Is he getting a hanging judge? This is a case where justice should be swift, as it should in all cases where someone is facing a trial of their peers per our US Constitution and the Colorado Constitution.
Distant Replay spews:
He’s an enemy combatant who willfully engaged in warfare against the United States.
He should be removed to Cuba and detained there indefinitely without trial, regularly subjected to stress positions, deprived of food and sleep, and his book of scriptures should be defiled in his presence.
Mark Adams spews:
@71 There is that old lawyer/politician joke. How do you know a politician is lying? Their lips are moving.
Sure it’s cynical, but the American voter knows politicians lie, or they try to avoid telling you anything of substance, which is still lying. Heck we give bonus points and applause for imaginative lies.
Whether or not Hillary Clinton lied in 1996 is not that big a deal to the American electorate.
Now if you tell a lie like George Bush did on taxes and you are a Republican well that can back and bite you in the political ass. Seems Bill Clinton made some noises about not raising taxes during that election, but did later raise taxes, and won a second election. I think you Republicans are jealous about that. Guess that is just an instance it sucks to the a Republican as you have to walk the talk on taxes, maybe doing the math before making those promises would be helpful.

@89,
there appear to be two kinds of gun owner. But Republican oath breakers continue to insist that this isn’t so.
Mark Adams spews:
@81 @82 Well there is that thing called the US Constitution and Colorado Constitution. And for some reason the ACLU and others have had a lot of heartburn over the Patriot Act. Could some act passed in a panic by Congress have some constitutional problems, but due to politics and the way the law works it’s difficult to get the courts to do their constitutional duty and to do justice. Darn it’s that whole the ends justifying the means and all.
Mark Adams spews:
@85 One would almost think refugees would be issued a gun on entry to the United States. Do you want a Colt or Smith and Wessen? This one fits in a woman’s hand comfortable. This here is a child’s rifle designed for boys and girls 5 to 10 years old. Welcome to the United States from the NRA remember to use those guns safely. You must accept a gun as your new 2nd amendment rights are sacrosanct here in these United States.
Mark Adams spews:
@87 At the moment he’s being held by the State of Colorado and appears they have no problem with holding him and trying him. They do have federal courts there too guess they don’t have a problem trying terrorists and it’s a short drive to the max prison. So maybe a bunch of Republican politicians are lying to us. Of course they are since their lips are moving.
Distant Replay spews:
@94,
No trial. This is well established law after more than 13 years.
More than 800 enemy combatants detained in Cuba alone, of various nationalities, including U.S. citizens. Only 25 trials ever. We have absolutely no legal obligation to grant this terrorist enemy combatant any kind of due process – at least not in any kind of practical or definite time frame. He should be immediately removed to Cuba for indefinite detention and torture.
While it may be true that at one time in America, the constitution granted the rights to due process you assert, this has not been the case for many years. It’s a done deal. I merely argue that we apply the policy where it stands to do us the most good. By locking up the violent extremists who live and organize in our own communities every day.

@96 You lied when you called Safire a “libtard” when he is well known to be a Libertarian Conservative and you lied again when you tied your BENGHAZI!!! crap to Saphire’s 1996 OP-ED.
The ONLY thing you have proven by your own words is that you are a liar. And by the sheer number of times you have lied, you have proven yourself a congenital liar.
And as to BENGHAZI!!! Lord only knows how many hours have been wasted on BENGHAZI!!! hearings that proved…nothing. But one little fact did leak out.
Ekim spews:
Since Rep. McCarthy (R-CA) admitted that the BENGHAZI!!! hearings were nothing more than a witch hunt AND since the House RETHUGS for years have denied it THEN this proves that the House RETHUGS are congenital liars. Q.E.D.
If Hillary should go because Safire called her a congenital liar, then obviously all of the House RETHUGS should go because one of their own proved they were congenital liars.
Wouldn’t you agree BUTTBOY?
