Why Ben Carson would be the first black president for white conservatives

“Ben Carson would be the anti-Obama, the first black president designed especially for white conservatives. For the white right wing, he would be their useful Negro in Washington — better yet, their magical Negro.”
“Carson is on the scene in order to make white conservatives feel comfortable in their skin and to validate them and their racism, Islamophobia, sexism, homophobia, their desire to return to the 1950s, and everything else. “A black man said it, so it must be alright,” they’ll say. A trail of outlandish, offensive comments is the only way a black man will get ahead in today’s GOP, the de facto party of white nationalism, for all of their lip service to outreach and the so-called big tent.”

Speaking of predictable, before the week is over, Bob and the batshit crazy loon will each in their own unique way explain to us how it was that this woman had this beating coming to her.
http://www.rawstory.com/2015/1.....r-husband/
A black woman who was punched and tackled to the ground by two white Jacksonville policemen for filming the arrest of her husband claims the cops stole her phone with a recording on the incident, reports NewsJax4.”
According to Kelli Wilson, she went down to a local convenience store to record the arrest of her husband and retrieve their car when she was assaulted by the two cops who demanded her name and told her to put her phone away and stop recording.
“I was beaten, and then falsely arrested, my phone was stolen, my car was taken. It was a traumatic experience. It was definitely an experience you never think you would be going through,” said Wilson.
Although police confiscated her phone, video of her arrest was captured by surveillance cameras that showed the unarmed woman talking to the police before they charged, attempting to grab her phone with one officer seen punching her while the other one held her arms.
According to Wilson, one of the policemen demanded she stop filming and she asked him “why?”
“He asked for it, he demanded it again, and I gave him the same, ‘Why do you want my phone? What do you need my phone for?’ He told me he would punch me in my face,”Wilson explained. “I eventually got punched and beaten and the sergeant that was on the scene joined in the beating.”
According to the police report, officers at the scene said Wilson repeatedly refused to identify herself and she was arrested for interfering with the arrest, although in the video she can be seen backing away from the officers.

@10 I don’t think even the right sees him as a messiah. (Trump is a different story.) He’s a transparent panderer, and being an amateur, isn’t very good at it.
Shifting gears for a moment (discussion of Carson resumes below), why is Trump so effective a pied piper? For starters, you have to be feeble-minded to swallow his glib promises, although much of the GOP electorate satisfies this qualifier. (Putin will roll over on Syria and Ukraine if Trump asks him to, etc.) Serious people won’t, which means he’s not really electable, even if he manages to cop the nomination. Of course, the serious people in the GOP establishment understand this, which is one of the reasons they’re determined to stop him.
Trump excels at telling people what they want to hear and making it sound easily attainable. No difficulties in cutting taxes and deficits at the same time, eh what? The economy will grow so fast it’ll happen automatically, etc. Notice he never explains HOW all these good things will come about, or why, if it’s so easy, other politicians haven’t already accomplished them, nor do his campaign promises come with any warranty, express or implied — caveat emptor.
Intelligent people will, of course, digest the caveats and then reject this nonsense. But it’s hard to find intelligent people in the GOP, so there’s still a line of children following the piper along the path leading out of town. I have a feeling, though, that at some point people will want proof and when it’s not forthcoming the piper’s game may be over.
If you read the Bible literally, the biblical messiah convinced his audiences with miracles that no ordinary mortal could perform, leaving no doubt among the masses that he was the real deal — a son of God imbued with divine powers. Trump promises to turn stones into loaves of bread, but he can’t actually do it, and that will be his downfall.
Returning to Dr. Carson, some might argue that what he accomplished in the OR was truly miraculous, although the case for divine intervention is weak. The evidence of his ability to transfer his miracle-working to politics is much, much weaker. It’s already painfully apparent that chewing on his “bread” will break all your teeth — it turns his loaves are still rocks. So are Trump’s, but in Carson’s case, it’s becoming visible far quicker, because Carson lacks Trump’s gift for glibness, which can hide the fakery for a while.
The real question is whether the GOP base is terminally gullible, or still has a glimmer of perception left. That will determine how long the flutes keep playing.

It takes your breath away. Even Ryssdal, who may be the most even tempered interviewer you could hope for, becomes noticeably alarmed by how Carson’s basic ignorance of the federal government leaves him unable to answer the simplest questions.
But more alarming to me is Carson’s utter arrogance. Soft spoken perhaps, but dangerously arrogant nonetheless. He seems to sincerely believe that he stands apart from the rest of us. Without knowing precisely how the federal government works, he is supremely confidant that unlike all the other tens of thousands of really smart people before him, he can make government so efficient that no program cuts or tax increases would ever be needed. And he knows this apparently not because he knows something about government, but because he knows himself and his abilities. He believes he is just that much smarter than everyone else who ever toiled in government. It’s frightening if you think about it.

@15 “Ryssdal: You have said more than once you want to run the government as a business. You want the president to be the CEO of that business. And I wonder, other than running a medical office, or sitting on corporate boards of Kellog’s and Costco, how do you know the government ought to be run like a business? How do you know the president ought to be the CEO? Carson’s failure to understand this should disqualify him from a city council position, much less the U.S. presidency.
“Carson: Well I know what efficiency looks like, and I know what inefficiency looks like. I’ve had an opportunity to work in universities, sit on university boards, as opposed to working with corporate boards, and noticing the rapidity and the efficiency with which things are done in one area versus the other area.”
In a college-level first course in political science, I would give this answer a failing grade. Efficiency is NOT the primary function or goal of government. Government’s role in society is to mediate the competing demands of citizens on public resources and how public authority is used. A participatory democratic process necessarily is slow, inefficient, and produces compromises. If you want to get things done quickly and efficiently, dictatorships are ideal for that. Every attempt in this country to transplant business values into the public sector has been a miserable failure, because that approach is incompatible with the basic premise of democracy, which is to accommodate everyone by making tradeoffs within the available resources, while protecting individual rights from encroachment by the majority. The President of the United States is not a CEO and can’t think like one. His job is not administrative or marketing, it’s leading and making tough decisions. Decisions of war and peace, Supreme Court appointments, and federal spending priorities are not business decisions. They are political and social decisions of the sort that CEOs and people from business aren’t trained or qualified to make. Carson’s inability to comprehend this should disqualify him from a city council position, not to mention the U.S. presidency.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@15 (continued) “Ryssdal: OK, so let’s talk about Ben Carson as president of the United States. You have said you want a balanced budget amendment. You’ve said that debt is a problem, it’s a cancer on this society, so let me ask you a couple of questions about that. First of all, if we’re gonna have a balanced budget amendment, government’s gonna have to spend less, we’re gonna have to get more money. What will you not provide in the way of government services? What entitlements will you not provide as president that will help get the budget balanced? What are you not gonna give the people?
Carson: Well, first of all, recognize that it’s not that difficult. If we simply refuse to extend the budget by one penny for three to four years, you got a balanced budget. Just like that. So this is not pie in the sky, very difficult thing to accomplish. Having said that, one of the bugaboos that has kept us from reducing government in the past is sacred cows. What I would do is first of all, allow the government to shrink by attrition. Don’t replace the people who are retiring, thousands of them each year. And No. 2: Take every departmental head, or sub-department head and tell them, “I want a 3 to 4 percent reduction.” Now anybody who tells me there’s not 3 to 4 percent fat in virtually everything that we do is fibbing to themselves.”
Oh brother, this guy isn’t even qualified to run a small business. Let’s say you own a small restaurant. Your employees are the cashier, the cook, and the waitress. If the cashier quits, you don’t hire another one? If the cook quits, you don’t replace him? If the waitress quits, you ask the customers to serve themselves?* See what bullshit this is? The guy doesn’t have a fucking clue. Would you want him sitting on a hospital board saying to the rest of the board, don’t replace doctors? don’t replace nurses? don’t replace janitors? I wouldn’t allow my loved ones to be taken to that hospital. If you agree, then why would you elect this idiot to run the federal government?
* This, btw, is a great metaphor for cutting entitlements, eliminating government services, etc. When you do that, you’re telling people in effect that “you’re on your own.” We have these programs precisely because we don’t want to be at the mercy of our own luck or life’s misfortunes. What a jackass.

His lawyer argued Bergdahl is guilty of a “one-day AWOL.” I don’t think I’d agree with that; going AWOL in a combat zone, if that’s what he did, is materially different and more serious than sneaking off a peacetime Army post. I wouldn’t want to serve with this guy, wouldn’t want him in my unit, and don’t think he belongs in the Army, but I also think the evidence needs to be heard before anyone decides whether his conduct warrants a prison sentence. (I’m talking to YOU, Puddy Jackass!) But it looks like the Army may be content to rid itself of him. It’s a good thing Trump can only fire his apprentices, and his sponsors don’t let him use firing squads. I hate to think what might happen if Trump became El Presidente of Guatemala or someplace like that.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bo.....jail-time/
Btw, Bergdahl has already served 5 years in Taliban jails, so it’s not like he’s getting off lightly. A less than honorable discharge would mean getting no POW or other veteran’s benefits, no recognition from his country or fellow citizens, no honors of any kind; a bad conduct discharge is a very big deal that you live with for the rest of your life.

I reject his basic premise. Most of the time when the ass hats drone on about “efficiency” they really mean “waste”. Most boards rig the game, leaving honest shareholders to settle for less or go fuck themselves. “Major Bradley Podliska, an intelligence officer in the Air Force Reserve who describes himself as a conservative Republican, told CNN that the committee trained its sights almost exclusively on Clinton after the revelation last March that she used a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state. That new focus flipped a broad-based probe of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi on September 11, 2012, into what Podliska described as ‘a partisan investigation.'”

At this point, no one knows who originated the rumor. It’s been widely reported that it’s been traced to a Department of Homeland Security computer. So dragging Wright into the conversation doesn’t exactly make a case that Obama is a Muslim. If he’s a Muslim, why did he attend a Christian church for 20 years? Now, of course, I realize Bickle didn’t bring up the Muslim thing @44. I’m bringing it up in my response to #44 because I think it’s material that Bickle aligns himself with people who call Obama a Muslim. @38 If I had to lay a bet, this looks like GOP intercine warfare to me. They love doing this to each other. It’s interesting that “Steve Baer, a Chicago-based GOP donor known for mass-emailing conservative figures and Republican lawmakers,” sent an email to McCarthy urging him to “spare his family.” A lot of people are interpreting that as a threat, an “or else.” The Tea Partiers didn’t want McCarthy to become speaker; they wanted him out of the way. This has all the earmarks of a Made-In-GOP hit operation. First they got Boehner, then McCarthy; to get a Tea Party speaker, first they had to take out these guys. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what’s going on.

@51 Yeah, Obama merely saved us from another Great Depression, got us out of two Republican wars, didn’t get us into any new ones, killed bin Laden, passed the most significant health care reform in 50 years, tripled the stock market, and reduced the growth rate of federal spending more than any president since Eisenhower. If that’s incompetence, I’ll vote for it.

@56 Last time I checked, the Middle East was still occupied by Middle Easterners. Frankly, I don’t know why we, the Russians, or anyone else wants the Middle East. As a colony, it would be much more trouble than it’s worth. Russia doesn’t need their oil, and frankly, neither do we. The people there constantly fight among themselves. If Putin wants to assume our headaches there, that’s an opportunity Obama shouldn’t pass up.

Heh. The trolls as usual were stupid wrong.
Thank you TWO TERM President Obama!
Roger Rabbit spews:
@75 Given 30% of that is gas taxes, gas is a bargain. That leaves only $1.46 per gallon for exploration, production, refining, transportation, and marketing. Works out to about $61 per barrel. With WTI crude just under $50, that leaves $11 + change for processing and distributing. Hard to see how anyone is makes a profit in this business. Certainly not gas station owners, who get about a dime per gallon, if that much. They have to sell beer and coffee to survive.

Why Our Consumption-Based Economy Is So Weak
“Many studies have found that younger generations have positive financial habits already, even though many are facing financial challenges that are exacerbated by overwhelming student loan debt. … Saving for retirement is actually their top priority, tied with paying down debt.”

Why The Economy Sucks, Part 2
“Since World War II, new cars and suburban houses have powered the economy and propelled recoveries. Millennials may have lost interest in both.”
Millennials are a tough sell. No doubt about it: “Millennials have turned against both cars and houses in dramatic and historic fashion. Just as car sales have plummeted among their age cohort, the share of young people getting their first mortgage between 2009 and 2011 is half what it was just 10 years ago, according to a Federal Reserve study.”
http://www.theatlantic.com/mag.....on/309060/

In 2008, The EPA handed down the Tier 4 Diesel emissions, and with the Locomotive builders took different paths. GE was able to modify it’s Evolution series locomotive to meet it. Last week, they debuted the prototype SD70ACE-T4, using a new version of an earlier attempt at a four stroke design. They wasted valuable time, but GE did not entirely rub it in, they only just started ramping up production of the ET44AC locomotive, since the Tier 3 compliant model exceeded Tier 3, GE had credits to use up.
