The procession that carried Canadian Forces Corporal Nathan Cirillo home to Hamilton, Ontario ran up Ontario Highway 401, part of which is named the Highway of Heroes. It is named in honor of a tradition that sprouted up spontaneously by ordinary Canadians wanting to honor fallen soldiers in Afghanistan. Part of the reason for the long drive from CFB Trenton to Toronto was Canadian law required a death certificate issued on Canadian Soil, which the Toronto Coroner volunteered to do.

I feared that this would happen. It appears some individuals decided to vandalize a mosque in Cold Lake, Alberta. The town has reacted by condemning the vandalism, and rallying around the mosque. By the way, Cold Lake is home to a Canadian Forces Base where CF-18 fighter jets are based.

Republicans are now demanding to know why the Surgeon General is not dealing with the Ebola crisis.
What the GOP has descended into, is the same trap the John Birchers and the old White Citizens Councils fell into back in the late 1950’s. That is, they commit real crimes, then accuse the opposition of those crimes, then do everything they can to publicize those crimes as something that they themselves are doing out of their Patriotic Duty because they believe that those crimes are something the opposition would be doing if they were members of it.
It really is psychotic behavior.
Time to put adults back in Congress and get rid of these lunatic assholes. This bunch of schizophrenic, spoiled brats that now make up the majority of the Conservative factions just has to go. They’re all fucking insane, stupid and appear perfectly willing, even enthusiastic to engage in their own violence and malfeasances merely to make the Liberal folks look bad, even though they freely admit they’re the people doing those things because they’re “patriots” and the opposition is “trying to destroy the Nation”.
They’re just fucking insane.
Those Golden chains they offer to the Citizenry are still just chains.

Republicans are just a bunch of bigots. Scary that these people even exist. They would be good candidates for Abortions. Sad we don’t have more abortions in this world.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@5 The reason there is no Surgeon General to deal with the Ebola “crisis” (if you can call half a dozen sick people in a country of 300-plus million a “crisis”) is, of course, because obstructionist Republicans wouldn’t let the president appoint one.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Now that (un)SP is breathing again, it’s appropriate to resume making fun of Pudge (who, for some strange reason, hasn’t banned me from his comment threads yet — is he high on legal pot?).
Pudge’s latest outrage centers on a registered sex offender’s Public Records Act request for copies of Pierce County-issued exotic dancer licenses,* which include quite a lot of personal information, including home addresses. Washingtons PRA is quite expansive and (by my legal analysis) doesn’t seem to explicitly protect this information, although there may be hope for dancers suing Pierce County to block its release in some of the Act’s broad language.
(* The state doesn’t appear to occupationally license or regulate strippers, so the license requirement and occupational regulatory scheme springs from Pierce County ordinances rather than RCW or WAC.)
Anyway, I asked Pudge in his comment thread whether he has a problem with the fact state employees are listed by name and salary on a public website, and he said something to the effect of no, of course not, they’re public employees so the public has a right to know that.
Well, okay then, what if the state hired strippers, would it then be okay to release their home addresses, bust measurements, and other personal information to sex offenders under the PRA? What I’m asking is, in pudge’s view, does being a public servant and getting a paycheck drawn against a state account mean that all bets are off, you’re lower than dirt, and the public has a right to stalk you?
Or should the same legal protections that apply to private sector employees also apply to public employees?
I suspect he’d twist his panties in a knot over that one.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Does anyone know if Pudge has a rap sheet? I’m not implying he does; I’m merely asking, that’s all, in case he requests my pension file.

Just got the Kindle edition of next month’s TRAINS Magazine, and in the Locomotive news column, it was an update on the upcoming Tier 4 emissions mandate. It’s official, GE won the battle, as they started working on the modifying the Evolution locomotive, early, while EMD decided a simple fix. EMD recently said it will be 2017 before they will be ready. That means that their Muncie plant will have to survive on rebuilds, exports, and the backlog of Tier 3 locomotive orders. EMD’ s parent Caterpillar, is also betting on the railroads taking a wait and see approach as well.
Right now, GE has the new Fort Worth and older Erie plant working artfully capacity into 2015, and last year, GE said all domestic production would be shifting to Fort Worth.

As far as that goes, those five kids at Marysville-Pilchuck High School weren’t shot in the head by an Ebola bug that crawled over the border from Mexico. It sure looks like a .40-cal. handgun in the hands of a 14-year-old boy distraught over a 15-year-old girl spurning his advances is a public health problem. Unless you somehow regard what he did with it as a private matter.

Recently, major rail bottleneck in Chicago was cleared up with the opening of the Englewood Flyover, which replaces a busy level junction. Of course it is late, and a scandal over not enough minority contractors is one reason, another is it being Chicago.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/.....story.html
One of the benefits of this part of the larger CREATE project, is trains will no longer have to idle while waiting for trains to cross, reducing the amount of Diesel emissions generated. It’s a junction home to many Amtrak, METRA, and freight trains. The CREATE project is an ambitious plan to clear up many bottlenecks in this major rail hub.
EvergreenRailfan spews:
Another proposal floated, and the Illinois Railroad Association opposes, even though it would complement CREATE, is the Illiana Belt Railroad, which would allow through traffic from the East and West to bypass Chicago. It is a private proposal.

But … 38,155 [PSE customers] were still waiting for their electricity Sunday evening. PSE estimated … some … may not have power until late Monday night ….”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: As usual our local socialist power company is much more efficient at restoring power than the capitalist outfit. This always happens after every storm. Wonder why?
EvergreenRailfan spews:
26)Most of the time, SCL does it pretty good, but I bet it is because many of the customers can vote the Board of Directors out, as has happened, such as the Energy Comittee Chairperson in 2003, and Mayor Frank Edwards was recalled for firing SCL Superintendent J.D. Ross.
