Too bad it isn’t going to be more time in a real prison. Club Fed means he gets to sleep in a nice private room, play tennis and golf, probably have access to a swimming pool and pretty much unrestricted visitation rights.
The reality is that he was caught mostly because wasn’t intelligent enough to keep his mouth shut. His primary downfall was openly bragging about the crime and, because he was supporting Republicans, that fact made him somehow untouchable.

Most People Need A Car In Seattle
The empirical evidence, or at least some of it, is in:
“What’s it like to get around Seattle these days on the bus? I don’t mean just to commute to work. What’s it like to depend on the bus for making appointments, for after-work errands, for just living in the city? Answer: It’s terrible. … For all the talk of Seattle’s green urbanism … there’s good reason 84 percent of Seattle households still have cars (compared to only 44 percent in New York).”
http://seattletimes.com/html/l.....14xml.html
Roger Rabbit Commentary: It’s no secret to anyone around here that Seattle has adopted anti-car policies that make life even more miserable for anyone who has to drive in this city. For example, last month I had to keep a medical appointment on Pill Hill, and it took an hour and a half to get there — 45 minutes to traverse the parking lot known as I-5 and another 45 minutes to make my way through the construction, traffic congestion, and bike/pedestrian herds surrounding the clinic. Before leaving, I arranged so that my future appointments will be at the clinic’s satellite branch in Lynnwood, which is much easier to access than its central location in downtown Seattle.
Frankly, I don’t go downtown anymore, unless I absolutely have to. That means only for medical appointments or, a few times a year, bar association seminars or meetings. Shopping, zero. Cultural events, zero. I’ve had it with Seattle’s madding crowds and aggravating car-unfriendly policies, not to mention unrepaired potholes.
Bicycles are all well and good for healthy young rabbits who have the strength to peddle uphill, all day to get where they have to be, and who don’t catch pneumonia from exposure to cold winter rains. Sick old rabbits (like some of us) can’t get around that way. Nor can we hop to where we need to go; I have a handicapped parking sticker because I can’t hop 200 feet. (It’s kinda surprising I haven’t been picked off by a predator yet.)
Buses? I used to work downtown, and rode buses for many years. It was bad then; it’s worse now. In fact, for bar association functions, bus is how I go. But I have to allow up to two hours to get there, each way. And then I have to hop several blocks from the bus stop to my final destination, most of it uphill, and this old rabbit won’t be able to handle the hills much longer. I’m only a year or two away from having to use downtown parking garages to attend those meetings. Another problem with buses and standing outside catching pneumonia in the winter rains while waiting for a bus to come. I avoid wintertime excursions downtown if I possibly can.
Public transportation works, to a degree, for containerizing and herding mass migrations of cubicle slaves to downtown office warrens. As long as their work doesn’t require traveling around the county or city during the work day. (If it does, a car is mandatory in most cases.) I view biking or walking to work as a specialized lifestyle that’s impractical for most people.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in love with cars; they’re expensive, dirty and polluting, a hassle to drive, a problem to park, a job to keep tidy and clean, and so on. There just isn’t a viable alternative for me. So I own one, and accept it as a necessary evil in my life. And I’m a car minimalist; it’s a basic, low-end model, and well over 10 years old. I’m not into throwing money at status symbols, drag racing at stoplights, or perforated mufflers or four-figure aftermarket automotive boom boxes. I drive what’s euphemistically known as “basic transportation.” I have a simple goal: Get from Point A to Point B and back again.
Which reminds me. I need to renew my tags next month. A couple years ago, I forgot and Mrs. Rabbit was pulled over and cited for expired tabs, and we had to go to court to get her off the hook. I still haven’t heard the end of that escapade.
Roger Rabbit spews:
This may not be the smoking gun evidence that convicts Officer Darren Wilson of murder, but it’s awfully close:
“Cellphone video that shows a witness raising his hands in the air immediately after the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old by a white police officer in Ferguson appears to support previous accounts and could bolster arguments that Michael Brown was surrendering when he was shot, legal experts said Friday.
“The video obtained by The Associated Press and first aired by CNN shows two landscapers who were working near the street where Brown was shot by officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9. In the video, a man can be heard saying, ‘He had his (expletive) hands in the air,’ while one of the workers raises his own hands up. …
“Benjamin Crump, the attorney for Brown’s family, said both workers came forward and told the family their account of the shooting. He described the video as ‘of paramount significance. Not because they were not residents of Ferguson, and not because [they] were Caucasian, but because it is a contemporaneous recording of their immediate actions of what they had just witnessed,’ Crump said. ‘It’s the best evidence you can have other than a video of the actual shooting itself.'”
http://seattletimes.com/html/n.....video.html
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Let’s back up a bit and reiterate what this shooting is really about. I’ve posted about this before, but it bears repeating: Ferguson is one of nearly 100 municipalities in Missouri’s heavily balkanized (for racial reasons) St. Louis County. Cutting up a metropolitan area of similar size to Seattle into that many city halls is an extremely inefficient and costly way to provide municipal services (such as police, fire, street maintenance, and trash collection). Couple that with minority and low-income populations pushed into compartmentalized ghettos, and you end up with black communities run by white people who hire white cops to extort money from poor residents on behalf of city hall by writing tens of thousands of bullshit tickets for minor or non-existent infractions. Michael Brown was executed for arguing with one of those cops and then walking away when the cop tried to cite him and a buddy for walking in the street. There is no discernible difference between what Officer Darren Wilson and what a Mafia shakedown thug does when he goes into a Bronx business to collect protection money. Wilson was a collection agent for the city, and Brown was shot for refusing to pay, that’s the essence of this incident. By any civilized standard, that’s murder, but let’s be clear about who committed the murder: Not just Wilson, but the entire Ferguson city hall, and they should all go to jail for this.

No, it’s not ancient history; and, yes, people should still talk about it, because the judgment of history isn’t handed down overnight. It takes time for things to crystallize. In any case, we have every right to hold their bungling against them, because justice demands that no one be allowed to walk away from the kinds of mistakes they made scot-free.

After casting the lone vote in Congress against what turned out to be the carte-blanche authorization that enabled Dumbya to go after Saddam instead of the people who attacked us on 9/11/01, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) received thousands of letters — some from thoughtful people, others from jackasses. Here’s a sampling:
THOUGHTFUL: “I thought our country was different. Do we not allow our citizens the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Are our people not innocent until proven guilty? Why do we not extend these rights to people outside of our borders?”
JACKASS: “You should have been in the Trade Towers you anti-American Bitch. Drop dead!!!”
THOUGHTFUL: “I worry that amid the anger arising from this week’s attack, our representatives will be swayed to ignore their moral compasses and go in search of an enemy that may prove very elusive. And I worry that more innocent people—in Afghanistan, in Iraq, in Pakistan—will fall victim under U.S. anti-terrorism initiatives.”
JACKASS: “You do not stand alone in evil — you stand with Bin Laden & Hitler & Judas.”
THOUGHTFUL: “While we all oppose terrorism, a more tempered, well-tailored response is needed than to write a blank check to the president for waging war in unknown places, against unknown adversaries, and at unknown costs.”
JACKASS: “You are a dog. Not even an American dog, a black mutt.”
THOUGHTFUL: “Courageous acts like yours widen the definition for all of us, giving us room to be world citizens, to express our pain and fear for all humans, and hopefully, inspire us to think beyond our borders.”
JACKASS: “Go to hell you communist!”
http://www.theatlantic.com/pol...../380084/2/
Roger Rabbit Commentary: Another reason we should never forget what the jackasses on the right did, and how wrong they were, is because they don’t learn from their mistakes. What I don’t understand is why half our country still votes for their ilk.
