I thought Puerto Rico, being a Commonwealth of the United States, residents there are American Citizens? They just can’t vote for President, voting members of Congress, and Senators, but don’t have to pay Federal Income Tax, in most cases.

Yep, since 1917.
Laura Ingraham is a fuckstain of the highest order. If it wasn’t for her outspoken bigotry and atavism, she’d have nothing to talk about at all. Nor would anyone know her name except maybe the bartender and the other old alcoholic spinster types at the bar she’d spend all her time at.

Nice job by the young turks blasting McMorris-Rodgers for her LIES to the entire country on the SOTU reply.
Why is it republicans are compelled to LIE about Obamacare? Could it be because the truth scares the hack out of them?
Bette from Spokane turns out to be too dumb to try and shop for a better deal on her health insurance – and she “liked” her insurance with a 10K deductable (and she is 58). Is she really that dumb to not realize her insurance was actually semi-worthless and that she paid over $500/month for lousy coverage? Is she too dumb to even shop on the state website for a better deal? If so, republicans deserve to have the only people left in their party be half-wits…

Don’t know if this has been covered already.
The Scottish Parliament passed the marriage equality law 105-18. Because of the devolution of most government powers from London to Edinburgh, last year’s legislation did not apply to Scotland. Sort of makes Scotland Number 17.

The head of the Scottish Conservative Party is a Lesbian. Unlike the UK Parliament, the Scottish Parliament has the Tories in the minority, with the Scottish National Party in the majority. Later this year, Scottish voters will be voting on a referendum pushed by the SNP, on independence. It will be interesting, on at least one Royal Navy base in Scotland. It’s where the RN’s Trident missile subs are based.

Millions of Americans these days have underwater mortgages.
Many, many of those Americans with underwater mortgages listen faithfully to Rush Limbaugh and watch Fox News Channel.
Also the national debt on Ronald Reagan’s watch went from 997 billion to 2.85 trillion.. Too bad you’re not the Gipper’s dad.

Swiss Voters went to the polls to vote on a series of referendums this weekend. One interesting one that passed was a national railway infrastructure plan.

In Contrast, We have political opposition making it hard to improve any service, and what we got is at the mercy of weather, bad middle management(Amtrak’s Chicago Hub), and a combination of the weather and Bakken Oil traffic(Amtrak’s Empire Builder). Interesting commentary in the following article, and the author is usually on the side of passenger rail. He has covered the issue for decades.
http://cs.trains.com/trn/b/fre.....in-39.aspx
In the current issue of TRAINS magazine, there are two good articles on the Crude by Rail traffic, and the State of High/Higher Speed Rail. Also, in the Passenger News column, an update on Amtrak and Michigan’s upgrading of the Wolverine Corridor.

Also, Swiss Voters approved quotas on immigration from the EU, and rejected a move to require abortions to be paid for with private money. The Swiss Health care law is sort of like the ACA, but lacks the compromise made on the choice/life issue.
Also, transportation politics in Bern are a little different. Right wing politicians are not totally against it. A few years ago, a MP from the Canton of Thurgau made news by resigning to go build trains. Some said it was due to an internal squabble within the right-wing Swiss People’s Party, following a election where moderate parties gained ground, and cost the party one of it’s two seats on the Federal Council. Turned out, his family owned Stadler Rail, a major train builder, and the Euro crisis had caused the Swiss Franc to gain strength, causing him to look for customers outside of Europe. He would be on the road a lot, and would not have time to go to legislative sessions in Bern.
http://www.thelocal.ch/2012100.....on-company
By the way, Stadler Rail has customers in the US, New Jersey Transit, Austin Capitol Metro Rail, and the Denton County Transit Authority in Texas.

Interesting documentary on ESPN about the 1951 University of San Francisco Dons football team. They went undefeated, but because they would not sit the two African American players, the Orange Bowl rescinded the invitation. Turned out USF needed the revenue from the game for the football program, and the team had to be disbanded. It’s a team sport, and they were asked to leave behind the players that got them noticed.

Patty Murray To Seek Re-election In 2016
The Seattle Times reports Sen. Patty Murray, 63, will seek a fifth term in 2016. If re-elected (and why wouldn’t she be?), she would be 71 years old when that term expired. So she’s probably got only three or four more Senate terms ahead of her.
