    It may not be relevant here, but I keep noticing people responding to the perception of a potential threat with deadly force as if fear, no matter how unfounded, automatically justifies killing someone.

    Moreover, there also seems to be a chorus of voices misrepresenting self defense law specifically to assert that once someone does something that could justify the use of force, any use of force becomes automatically justified, even if the threat is no longer present.

    The result seems to be that people have convinced themselves they’re allowed to kill people who have frightened them or may frighten them, not in defense so much as for punishment.

    Whether he’s telling the truth about feeling threatened, or just recognizes that that’s the “acceptable” justification for killing someone, he seems to be operating under this kind of assumption.

    Is it because we’ve had it drilled into our heads by police union PR teams and supporting media when police kill someone the only justification they need is a ‘fear for their lives’?

    Levonorgestrel, was developed and produced by Wyeth, LLC an AMERICAN based company based in Philadelphia until its acquisition by Pfizer an American company. The specific brand name Plan B is manufactured by Foundation Consumer Healthcare at facilities in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    So you’re planning on militarizing the borders around Pennsylvania to keep it out? Cleveland and Toledo are crawling with the newly created Abortifacient trafficking squad so we’re going to have to truck it through Akron then we can cross on Route 20 and make it to the street distribution team in Ann Arbor.

    I’m pretty sure when you cut through the bullshit it is still a matter of honor versus dignity.

    Being threatened with attack, being bullied, being frightened enough to seek a means of retreat is different for different people. For people raised by bullies, equipped from an early age with low self-esteem, the experience can be an immensely humiliating one that drives them to seek resolution or remedy for that humiliation. They have been taught to believe very sincerely that the remedy lies in obtaining or extracting honor. Given those circumstances for some of those people the most immediately available source of honor lies in obtaining violent triumph over the source of their humiliation. You’ll see the very same people break golf clubs or throw plates of food at expensive wall paper. It’s an overwhelming impulse.

    And while it is certainly an impulse more commonly found among “conservatives” it is really the product of upbringing, education, and cultural orientation. And it certainly exists among liberals too.

    In the end, somebody with a healthy self esteem and a mature relationship with politics and political debate probably wouldn’t even find themselves having a heated political debate at a street dance in North Dakota.

    These are not “self defense” killings. People who kill in these situations do not undertake a rational process of reviewing what they understand about legal self defense, even if that understanding is deeply misinformed. I think it’s very possible that such people undertake such a misinformed analysis when “preparing” themselves for such situations. They arm themselves before going out to the bar for drinks “in case some asshole pops off”. The mount dash cams on the pickup trucks in hopes of recording the “justification” for their violent road rage. But in the moment of fear, humiliation, and sudden rage, they are acting purely on impulse. And they are not seeking to defend their life, but rather to defend their “honor”.

    I think part of the reason for Putin’s escalating rhetoric and mobilization is his expectation that he gets a reprieve after Jan 1st if Republicans win control of the House. He needs to keep Biden and NATO wary of expanding the conflict until then.

    Well, the Federal Reserve just raised the interest rate by 75 basis points, and they will probably do another 75 bps in the next couple of months. The FED needs to raise the rate by another 450 bps to attack inflation, but that is going to be a very unpopular move with those folks out there with adjustable-rate home equity lines of credit. On a $200K HELOC debt, the 75 bps hike is costing another $135 or so per month. For those on fixed incomes, that sucks.

    Dave Ramsay is essentially correct: debt is financial poison.
