I hope your holidays were good. Here are some links.

_ Sad that the Black Lives Matter garden was taken out of Cal Anderson.

– Birbs

– Capitalism works best when there’s a balance between labor, customers, and profits. Starbucks plans to undermine workers are well known, but don’t slouch on how they’re screwing customers.

– Year of Housing 2.0

– I believe that killer cops, like all criminals, deserve a good defense in court and to not go to jail if found not guilty. But still fuck them forever.

– President Biden pardoned a bunch of people for marijuana possession.

– Ugh shut down unsafe clubs.

– Really glad that we have shield laws against anti trans states.

– Anyway, please wash your hands right now. And get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

– Can’t ignore the sidewalks when doing street repairs in Seattle anymore.

– It’s important to assess how Downtown is doing, but maybe the success of a grocery store in walking distance to Pike Place isn’t the best example?

– Molbak’s closing is going to be a hit to the community.

– Yay for building emissions standards.

– Hey you, yeah you. Hey, wash your hands right now. Hey, I’m not done. Also, get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

Flat fares for Link light rail starting in the fall of 2024. I think this makes sense, especially as the line gets longer and longer. But I guess it would be annoying if you only live one or two stops away from your work and are paying yourself.

I don’t know, my work pays for my Orca Card. I won’t really notice it one way or the other. No tapping off.

Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

– Come on, Kenmore. We need supportive housing everywhere.

– Come on, Seattle. Cutting LEAD funding. Gross.

All of my friends who get into foraging get really into foraging. Glad there are groups doing it ethically.

– Bye Kevin.

– Anyway, please wash your hands right now. And get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

– AI can do some amazing things. But! I am more and more convinced that even if the singularly happens there will be an underpaid team making it work in the background.

– The more the merrier in a primary. I like Franz, but I don’t know enough about her national policies or much about the other two.

– I am glad Kshama Sawant was a City Council member. It was always nice that 1 member was left of me on the Council.

Wednesday!

Does anyone know what happened in the Liberty Lake City Council? It sounded like they were going to give themselves the ability to ban books from the local library. But I can’t find minutes on their website or anything on Google News. Anyway, it seems bad and the timing is icky.

Anyway, wash your hands right now. And get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

Are you ready for a weekend of atmospheric river? At least it won’t be freezing. But if you happen to be driving past a blinking red light, here’s a free tip:

You’re actually supposed to come to a full stop and then decide who goes next with stop sign rules. Not barely slow down and almost hit someone in the crosswalk when you see there are no cars. And if that is stop sign rules for you, maybe consider don’t drive anymore?

Anyway, please wash your hands right now. Right now. Right now. And get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

– Antisemites are going to antisemite. Any reason they give is an excuse. Still, the rise in violence and property damage are disturbing.

– Driving will kill you slowly if it doesn’t do it quickly.

– I don’t link to too many national stories, and I couldn’t care less about Hunter Biden, but geez Republicans are giving the game away.

– Congratulations to Burien for finally doing the right thing.

– Get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible. And hey, if you haven’t ordered the free home test kits, here’s a chance.

Good morning from I forgot I was doing an open thread until I was almost at work. Take one off for the holiday, and suddenly you forgot what you do on your commute. Is it too early to tell people to wash their hands? Ot they can get vaccinated for COVID-19 and the flu while they’re at it?

– Seattle has a budget. Where are the impact fees? Guys, where are the impact fees?

– Gosh, I don’t think mailing white powder to election offices when they’re counting votes is a good idea.

– Hey, get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible. And hey, some free testing kits. Might as well take advantage of that. And get a flu shot while you’re making an appointment. Someone has already died of the flu in Washington, so the sooner the better.

Listen, every city needs a crank or two on the City Council. I would prefer they be cranks in the Sawant mold of far left politics than the Rob Saka mold of anti-transit hyperbole masked as immigrant friendly language. He had to drive a slightly different route to pick up his kids and he compared it to the border wall.

The H line is great, and guy is complaining that he has to go around the block. And now he’ll be on the City Council for 4 years. I am sure that the people who hated Sawant’s hyperbolic statements will push back just as hard on this.

Anyway, please wash your hands right now. And get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
