4 day week, but I am more spent than most. So here’s to the weekend. After today. And here’s to getting vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Open Thread Wednesday
– Jesus Christ almighty. Ann Davison out here just ending important programs unilaterally. Just, fuck.
– I’ve linked to tree ordinance reporting before, but now, it has passed.
– Please, for goodness sake, get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Friday Before A Long Weekend Open Thread
This I, Anonymous in The Stranger has been a bug bear for me for along time. Like, I will take our terrible walkers over our terrible drivers. But man, just, like, recognize that there are other people. Maybe they have actual things to do. Maybe they don’t want to navigate around a group of people, or one slow person managing to take over the whole sidewalk. Come on, everyone.
Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible. Get them.
Wednesday!
Regulating the gig economy should probably come at the state or Federal level. But as long as they aren’t stepping up, it’s fantastic that the city of Seattle is stepping up. First with sick and safe leave rights and now potentially rights around termination. Too much of tech is just new and exciting ways to treat workers poorly.
Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible
Monday Open Thread
Vaccines are the best invention ever. Ever. I know I keep harping on you to get vaccinated or boosted for COVID-19.
But also, am I glad I got my MMR as a kid. Because whoo boy. I was in one of the places the person with measles went this weekend. Instead of an oh shit situation, it’s fine.
Friday Open Thread
I didn’t get any engagement on Twitter, and I don’t know if it’s because Twitter sucks now or because it’s just not interesting? Or both.
Anyway, the other day, I got on the light rail at Pioneer Square going North. Now what you have to understand is that the sometimes the doors open on the right and sometimes they open in the left, and between there and Capitol Hill, where the doors open on the opposite side, it’s all underground.
The person who got on ahead of me went to the opposite doors and looked out the window. Butt to the other passengers. Whenever I get that spot, it’s because I am getting off at Capitol Hill, but I always turn around so I’m facing inside the train. I can understand if it’s above ground but looking out at the gray walls of the tunnel seems… wrong? Off? I don’t know.
Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Wednesday Morning Open Thread
– The new drug possession law is harsher than I would have preferred. I am also not sure what “encourages prosecutors to divert drug possession cases to treatment” will mean in practice.
– It’s filing week, so file for office. Seriously, go for it. If there’s a local position and you don’t like what the incumbent is doing or you don’t like anyone in the race for an open sea, well, make it happen.
– The Queen Anne Taco Bell is far too expensive.
– Multnomah County, get your shit together and spend the money allocated for homeless people. For God’s sake.
– Get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Monday
It’s too hot. Please for goodness sake, someone do something about it. Like another week of this in May. In May? May? Seriously, May. I don’t like it. We just skipped from low 60’s to mid 80’s? Fuck. In goddam May. This is supposed to be some of the nicest time of the year. Instead it’s just too hot.
Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Open Thread (Friday)
– Cinerama is coming back after a few years of uncertainty. I am looking forward to the very tasty popcorn that makes me kind of sick, as well as the great movie experience.
– Stay cool in this hot times. The forecast just says toooooo hoooooot so do your best here.
– Get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday.
– Donald Trump sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll and will almost certainly be the Republican nominee. It won’t be less obvious that he’s a serial sexual assailant than the last two times he ran, but this time there’s a jury verdict, too.
– Trailhead Direct is back starting this weekend. So ignore your mothers and go hiking.
– I was following the legislature pretty closely, but I missed the law to protect trans kids from their estranged parents. Good work from the legislature.
Get fucking vaccinated or boosted if you’re goddam eligible.
Monday Morning Open Thread
– Oh look, the transit tunnel is back to almost normal hours today and then full hours tomorrow.
– Here’s something cool Portland is doing with safe rest villages.
– And cool that here in Seattle, the first new affordable housing high-rise tower in decades is opening.
– Get vaccinated or boosted. It’s well past time. Just, fucking get it done.
Friday! Open! Thread!
– I don’t believe that all cops are bastards, but my goodness do we need to do more about the bastard cops.
– This is a tough story about homelessness in Spokane.
– Senator Marko Liias gets a lot of shit for being great.
– Get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday
Jay Inslee is not going to seek a 4th term. Not totally unexpected, but still, it feels like the end of an era. It’s still a year and a half away from the election to replace him, so no need to pick just yet. Ferguson and Franz have both done a good job at their current positions, although I was not impressed with Ferguson on the King County Council. Should be an exciting campaign.
Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Open Thread, Monday
A new connection between Downtown and the waterfront just opened. I live nearby, so I gave it a bit of a test walk. It’s not as bad as maybe Twitter would have you believe. There are buildings blocking most of it from the waterfront. So it isn’t Viaduct Part 2, but at the same time, there isn’t much of a view.
There are sidewalks and bike paths. They may be smaller than you might want, but I am glad that activists have made that sort of thing necessary in projects, even if they absolutely shouldn’t be satisfied. I think when family comes to town and we show them Pike Place, it’ll be easier to show them the waterfront.
But ultimately, the issue is more cars on the waterfront and in the urban core. And yeah, there are already a lot of cars on it. I imagine it will be gridlocked pretty frequently, especially during rush hour.
Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
Friday Open Thread
– What is happening with the transit tunnel? I understand the tracks needing repair. Shitty but it happens. But if hypothetically, I want to go North, I go to the South platform and make sure the bus is Northbound (presumably from the direction, but also hopefully signage and the intercom). I’m sure there will be signs, but what a mess.
– Man, Jenny Durkan, the more that comes out. Jeez.
The Seattle/ King County free clinic is happening at Seattle Center. Happening now through the weekend.
Hey, hey. Hey you. Get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.
