WA superdelegate David McDonald has endorsed Barack Obama. The end is nigh tomorrow.

As you know, I serve on the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the Democratic National Committee. Many months ago I made a personal choice to stay neutral as a super-delegate in the presidential nominating contest until the RBC had resolved all significant issues likely to come before it. On Saturday the RBC resolved the last of those issues. After a day of sightseeing in Washington DC, a long, cell-phone free plane ride home and some sleep, I have decided to cast my vote as a member of the Democratic National Committee for Senator Barack Obama.
The Democratic Party has been blessed this year with a century’s worth of great candidates for President. This was not an easy choice. Both of the candidates who remain in contention are capable of winning the general election and would likely do so if selected as the nominee. The policy differences between them are relatively minor compared to the gulf between the Bush-McCain Republican team and the needs of the American people. I cannot stress enough how proud I am to be associated with a political party that has brought to the forefront this incredible pair of final contenders.
It has been apparent to me over the months, however, that Senator Obama’s candidacy has brought astounding new energy and hope to the Democratic Party nationwide. He has shown a remarkable ability to organize and mobilize Democratic voters and focus their efforts on the key task of persuading independent voters around the country to join us in changing the White House agenda. His leadership provides, I believe, a unique opportunity to continue to expand this party, to continue our long term agenda of contesting—and converting—the “red” areas of the country, and to continue our task of making conditions better for Americans everywhere. It is an opportunity that I want to help turn into a reality.
I couldn’t agree with him more.
But what about all the anti-american stuff that keeps coming from Obama’s church? Now we have a priest in the Trinity pulpit declaring that “America is the greatest sin against God” and put on quite the hate-fest against your girl Hillary recently. That in addition to a wife who hasn’t been proud of America her entire adult life until now, unrepentant communist terrorists who he’s cozy with that bombed targets in WA DC and killed people (they wish they’d done more of that, they themselves said), a wife associated (until she got caught recently) being a “friend” on a terrorist fund-raising website, a pastor who railed against white people–who he tells the congregation want to kill them, etc.
Just a lot of anti-american, racially divisive stuff here.
Folks, I know you don’t want a republican in the white house next go-around, but is this REALLY want you wanted instead? I can hardly believe it.

David McDonald was on KUOW this morning, and when asked about who he would endorse, stated that he needed to decompress a bit after the rules committee meeting.
Talking about Obama’s church is healthy. We should have town meetings in all of the 59 states on church and its roll in society. Why are you dems against debate and free speech???

They aren’t. ONLY pledged delegate totals can be considered a valid count for determining the nominee during primaries. Obama is 400 delegates shy. This nomination will not be over with until convention, and Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee.

Let’s see. I’m a United Methodist, and my church is pretty tame. Over the last sixteen years, attending regularly, I can only remember about a dozen sermons that would be considered objectionable.
I remember a particular guest preacher that managed to offend most of the congregation, several from a rather outspoken female pastor that shook up a number of us (me included), and a few others that I find myself glad that they weren’t immortalized on video, at least for the sake of anyone running for public office.
Oh, and the outspoken female pastor officiated at my wedding and baptized my son.
Out of about 800 sermons, only about a dozen or so that were objectionable. As I mentioned, we’re a pretty tame bunch.
But… twenty years would come out to over 1,000 sermons, and the anti-Obama crowd can only find about a half-dozen that really bother them. Wow. That must be a really quiet church.

This year, after the swift boating of the last election, Americans want to hear issues. So far, McShame has come up short on three of the big ones.
Iraq: He will never surrender, HE is prepared to fight 100 years. He is way optimistic on how much longer he going to live.
Gas Prices: His answer is a tax suspension stunt. A way to fool the public but providing no substantive relief of any kind. With the speed that gas prices are rising, this stunt would not even be noticed by consumers.
The economy: He admits he knows little. But Mr. Gramm is helping him out. We know where that is going.
So you can bellyache about religion and all the other smoke screens you can find, it simply is not going to hide the truth.
Mr. Potato Head would beat McShame in November. For that, you can thank Mr Bush and the inbred Mr Cheney.

Darryl, which denomination? My father is a Lutheran minister. At my wedding reception, I wanted my two sisters-in-law and my bride to sing “Son of a Preacher Man.” They didn’t. But, on topic, when my father was pastor of a church in Wenatchee, in the late 70s, the Supreme Court had once again suggested that capital punishment met constitutional guidelines. The states were then free to again legislate killing. A member of my father’s congregation was one of the 12th District’s state representatives. He came to my dad and asked what the biblical justifications for capital punishment were. My dad said there weren’t any. The Republican legislator persisted. My father, said there wasn’t anything in the New Testament to satisfy his needs, but finally gave him the Old Testament eye for an eye stuff. That satisfied the legislator. Capital punishment was soon thereafter pushed through this state’s legislature. My father was appalled. Being a member of a church does not mean whatever the church’s pastor professes all its members profess. If so, this state might not have capital punishment on its books.

I remember my dad, a proponent of ordaining women back in the early 70s, going to a convention in San Antonio to push female ordination. (Of course, now as a supporter of Barack Obama, some Hillaryites would accuse him of sexism.) He then got a female intern, hippie and liberal, in Wenatchee in the mid-70s. Chelan County, where Dino chose to pursue his frivolous lawsuit, was not quite ready for her. Imagine that.

John McCain has done more in his lifetime than your entire non-branching family tree lineage combined will ever hope to do.
John McCain will not be elected because he has only one issue he cares about, and that’s staying in Iraq. He wants to American troops to stay in Iraq until they achieve “victory,” whatever that is. But if conditions get worse (presumably farther from “victory”), that’s why we should stay. And if conditions there get better (presumably closer to “victory”), then that’s why we should stay. And once we achieve “victory,” whatever that is, he still wants us to stay, for fifty or one hundred years.
This is his issue, and he clings to it like crazy. And that’s why he’s a loser in this election. Americans want us to leave Iraq. Americans want to bring the troops home. Americans do not want to vote for a guy who wants our troops to stay.
On other issues, McCain really has no particular stance. He’s perfectly happy to take positions today that are completely at odds with his fervent position on these issues at other times. Pandering? Election-year “conversion?” Well, yes, of course it is. And Americans are not so stupid and naive that they do not realize this.
So what are Republians left with? Not much. Their candidate’s signature issue is a loser with about 70% of the country, and on other issues he’s clearly willing to deal away any principles he may once have had in order to lie through his teeth for election-year advantage.
What’s left for Republicans, then, is to try to destroy Barack Obama. I remember Republicans crying crocodile tears about “the politics of personal destruction” as though they had not been this country’s most vicious perpetrators. And now we see it, don’t we? Barack Obama is a secret Muslim, say the underground e-mail campaigns. He consorts with “terrorists” or at least people who were terrorists forty years ago! “He is black,” is a big part of the subtext. He’s different. The same old appeal to the same old racist Republicans.
The Republican party, after this election, will be even more isolated into the party of the white Southern enclaves they have embraced and made central to their strategies. They don’t even try to broaden their appeal, but instead work ever harder at narrowing it. I gotta tell ya, it’s been fun to watch.

With the economy in the toilet, the war in Iraq going nowhere, the price of gas and other assorted ills, the one bright spot is the melt-down of the Republican party.
