WA superdelegate David McDonald has endorsed Barack Obama. The end is nigh tomorrow.
UPDATE:
Here’s McDonald’s statement:
As you know, I serve on the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the Democratic National Committee. Many months ago I made a personal choice to stay neutral as a super-delegate in the presidential nominating contest until the RBC had resolved all significant issues likely to come before it. On Saturday the RBC resolved the last of those issues. After a day of sightseeing in Washington DC, a long, cell-phone free plane ride home and some sleep, I have decided to cast my vote as a member of the Democratic National Committee for Senator Barack Obama.
The Democratic Party has been blessed this year with a century’s worth of great candidates for President. This was not an easy choice. Both of the candidates who remain in contention are capable of winning the general election and would likely do so if selected as the nominee. The policy differences between them are relatively minor compared to the gulf between the Bush-McCain Republican team and the needs of the American people. I cannot stress enough how proud I am to be associated with a political party that has brought to the forefront this incredible pair of final contenders.
It has been apparent to me over the months, however, that Senator Obama’s candidacy has brought astounding new energy and hope to the Democratic Party nationwide. He has shown a remarkable ability to organize and mobilize Democratic voters and focus their efforts on the key task of persuading independent voters around the country to join us in changing the White House agenda. His leadership provides, I believe, a unique opportunity to continue to expand this party, to continue our long term agenda of contesting—and converting—the “red” areas of the country, and to continue our task of making conditions better for Americans everywhere. It is an opportunity that I want to help turn into a reality.
I couldn’t agree with him more.
Buzz spews:
But what about all the anti-american stuff that keeps coming from Obama’s church? Now we have a priest in the Trinity pulpit declaring that “America is the greatest sin against God” and put on quite the hate-fest against your girl Hillary recently. That in addition to a wife who hasn’t been proud of America her entire adult life until now, unrepentant communist terrorists who he’s cozy with that bombed targets in WA DC and killed people (they wish they’d done more of that, they themselves said), a wife associated (until she got caught recently) being a “friend” on a terrorist fund-raising website, a pastor who railed against white people–who he tells the congregation want to kill them, etc.
Just a lot of anti-american, racially divisive stuff here.
Folks, I know you don’t want a republican in the white house next go-around, but is this REALLY want you wanted instead? I can hardly believe it.
Goldy spews:
Buzz @1,
And McCain sought out and embraced the endorsements of an anti-semitic hate-talker like Rev. Hagee.
You want to create guilt by association, it works both ways. This ain’t 2004. You swiftboat us, we’ll hit you right back.
Darryl spews:
Goldy,
Wow…that was fast.
David McDonald was on KUOW this morning, and when asked about who he would endorse, stated that he needed to decompress a bit after the rules committee meeting.
Jane Balough's Dog spews:
Talking about Obama’s church is healthy. We should have town meetings in all of the 59 states on church and its roll in society. Why are you dems against debate and free speech???
K spews:
I would love to hear free speech from McCain explaining why he pursued the anti-Catholic preacher.
RonK, Seattle spews:
No question, McCain is horrible … and in a match-up with Obama, he’ll have my support.
Steve spews:
Having dumped Hagee and Parsley, I doubt now if the American constitution-hating Christian Dominionists and Reconstructionists will back the old fart. Without the wacko vote, what’s the guy to do?
Buzz spews:
Interesting that no one can admit that a couple endorsements from two individs. who weren’t your pastor for 20 years doesn’t even come close to what Obama presents with then and now. Nowhere even the same level of shocking stuff being spewed and at a place that he was an actual member of for 20 years, people.
How about commenting on the racially divisive and anti-american rhetoric that Obama supported for the past 20 years? Tens of thousands of dollars given to this stuff? Are you really saying that none of it bothers you? Is that the message here??
Buzz spews:
..and #4, that’s 57 states to you, unless Obama has since added more that I’m unaware of.
Buzz spews:
..and “guilt by association??” When you join a church, you are a MEMBER. That’s means to all that you subscribe to the beliefs and doctrines of that church. This was Obama’s life, folks. He bought into all the divisiveness and cannot possibly be someone who “brings people together.”
I would like to hear why all of this Obama hate-spewing as religion and the communist Ayres connection and anti-americanism is just tidy fine with everyone here. Please—help me understand why that is all peachy keen. A lot of people want to understand. Because if McCain presented with that mile-long list of highly disturbing racist and anti-american stuff, he wouldn’t have gotten past the primary.
So please, help America understand why it was all okay with you.
ByeByeGOP spews:
Now that we have Obama as the candidate, we need to start pointing folks at the BIG scandal that will cripple FlipFlop McCain. The Gramm scandal is getting bigger. McCain’s financial advisor Phil Gramm is linked to deals that helped start the current mortgage crisis. Remember the Keating Five too. And also, Gramm built policy that helped Bush family friend Osama bin Laden. Nice!
Buzz spews:
..and please answer the original question: Is all of Obama’s highly objectionable present and past what you REALLY wanted in a candidate?
Politically Incorrect spews:
Obama quit the church in question a couple of days ago. That story is OVER!
All this religious crap is getting in the way of Obama and McCain competing for the presidency in November. Obama’s ex-church has nothing to do with the campaign anymore.
Hillary’s finished, so it’s time for McCain and Obama to start the fight in earnest.
Rick D. spews:
B-uh-rack Obam-uh
…….Did Anyone count how many times he uh’ed through that 30 minutes on Saturday? If it was less than 300, I would uh, be ,uh, shocked. If that would have been McCain uh-ing like an adoloscent in speech class, it would have been on Letterman and Leno that night with a counter and bell tone.
But then, the Chitown assclown has gotten a free pass this entire campaign and this latest speech impediment revelation is uh, no exception.
Put a fork in him, he’s done in November. Plenty of time for him to start looking for a new church.
Buzz spews:
but #13, what do you think of that fact that he only quit that church this week? What do you think about the judgment of someone who claims not to know what was going down over there for 20 years? Taking 20 years to know what your own church is about doesn’t sound like someone who’s a quick enough study to be president, does it? But what did you think about all the Trinity stuff and the fact that Obama had to kiss Ayre’s bee-hind to get a leg up in Chicago politics? Is America really “the greatest sin against God?” This isn’t the first time anything like this went down at the church and everyone has figured that out. That was standard fare there.
ByeByeGOP spews:
Let’s talk about pastors. Let’s talk about McCain’s pastor problems. Then let’s talk financial advisor problems and the massive Phil Gramm scandal brewing. Then let’s ask FlipFlop McCain why he’s trying to keep POW records sealed. Then let’s talk about the Keating Five and finally, McCain’s ties to the failed Bush war and economy. Obama wins by 19!
K spews:
Buzz @ 10- so the priest was a visiting speaker at a time when Obama was not in the room, and you have the nerve to try to run with that one? Get serious.
"Hannah" spews:
Buzz @ numerous posts….Obama is a whole helluva lot better than Hillary. Yes he has some questionable background choices, but he is the best chance of bringing this country back together.
Unlike McCain, Obama DID attend the church in question for 20+ years and it took til recently for him to denounce the sermons. I know he has scandal in his past and present just like McCain, but Hilary has proven all she cares about is herself.
Jane Balough's Dog spews:
Then let’s ask FlipFlop McCain why he’s trying to keep POW records sealed.
What about Barak’s military records??? I have heard that no one has ever seen them.
Buzz spews:
#17: Let’s spell it out, here. Pfleger is symptomatic of what’s been going on at Trinity for a LONG time. Had you not realized that?
Darryl spews:
Buzz (ed dude)
“When you join a church, you are a MEMBER. That’s means to all that you subscribe to the beliefs and doctrines of that church.”
Bull-fucking-shit. As the son of a minister, I assure you that members of any congregation vehemently disagree with their pastors on all matters practical, worldly and spiritual. And they are entirely unafraid of expressing it! Let me guess, Wingding, you haven’t been to a church since your Confirmation.
“This was Obama’s life, folks.”
It is unlikely that Obama’s life has much, if anything, to do with a few highly selected moments of a Rev. Wright sermon.
‘He bought into all the divisiveness and cannot possibly be someone who “brings people together.”‘
Man…what planet are YOU living on, Wingnut?
JavaCity spews:
That last paragraph is a laugh. Obviously Old McDonald is hearing a quack, quack here, a quack quack there. Obama’s momentum has been in reverse for almost 2 full months.
These Super’s have a false impression of themselves. Their over-inflated egos are telling them they are actually contributing to the end of the primary.
They aren’t. ONLY pledged delegate totals can be considered a valid count for determining the nominee during primaries. Obama is 400 delegates shy. This nomination will not be over with until convention, and Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee.

Buzz:
Let’s see. I’m a United Methodist, and my church is pretty tame. Over the last sixteen years, attending regularly, I can only remember about a dozen sermons that would be considered objectionable.
I remember a particular guest preacher that managed to offend most of the congregation, several from a rather outspoken female pastor that shook up a number of us (me included), and a few others that I find myself glad that they weren’t immortalized on video, at least for the sake of anyone running for public office.
Oh, and the outspoken female pastor officiated at my wedding and baptized my son.
Out of about 800 sermons, only about a dozen or so that were objectionable. As I mentioned, we’re a pretty tame bunch.
But… twenty years would come out to over 1,000 sermons, and the anti-Obama crowd can only find about a half-dozen that really bother them. Wow. That must be a really quiet church.
My Left Foot spews:
Buzz-ard and his buzzdies,
Lets talk issues. Personal attacks are fun, but eventually the American public ignores them.
This year, after the swift boating of the last election, Americans want to hear issues. So far, McShame has come up short on three of the big ones.
Iraq: He will never surrender, HE is prepared to fight 100 years. He is way optimistic on how much longer he going to live.
Gas Prices: His answer is a tax suspension stunt. A way to fool the public but providing no substantive relief of any kind. With the speed that gas prices are rising, this stunt would not even be noticed by consumers.
The economy: He admits he knows little. But Mr. Gramm is helping him out. We know where that is going.
So you can bellyache about religion and all the other smoke screens you can find, it simply is not going to hide the truth.
Mr. Potato Head would beat McShame in November. For that, you can thank Mr Bush and the inbred Mr Cheney.
michael spews:
35, 36
Keep up the good work!
My Left Foot spews:
There is also a very real possibility that the congress could come back and be veto proof. This means that the government would effectively be run by a congress that would totally ignore the president and the minority (sound familiar?)thus making McShame nothing more than a figurehead. You are failing to understand the depth of the dissatisfaction being felt by the public. Less than a 30% approval rating for the worst Oval Office Occupier Ever certainly does not translate to the election of more of the same. Dumbasses!!
proud leftist spews:
Darryl @ 21 quoting Buzz: “When you join a church, you are a MEMBER. That’s means to all that you subscribe to the beliefs and doctrines of that church.”
“Bull-fucking-shit. As the son of a minister, I assure you that members of any congregation vehemently disagree with their pastors on all matters practical, worldly and spiritual.”
Darryl, which denomination? My father is a Lutheran minister. At my wedding reception, I wanted my two sisters-in-law and my bride to sing “Son of a Preacher Man.” They didn’t. But, on topic, when my father was pastor of a church in Wenatchee, in the late 70s, the Supreme Court had once again suggested that capital punishment met constitutional guidelines. The states were then free to again legislate killing. A member of my father’s congregation was one of the 12th District’s state representatives. He came to my dad and asked what the biblical justifications for capital punishment were. My dad said there weren’t any. The Republican legislator persisted. My father, said there wasn’t anything in the New Testament to satisfy his needs, but finally gave him the Old Testament eye for an eye stuff. That satisfied the legislator. Capital punishment was soon thereafter pushed through this state’s legislature. My father was appalled. Being a member of a church does not mean whatever the church’s pastor professes all its members profess. If so, this state might not have capital punishment on its books.
Darryl spews:
Proud leftist,
“Darryl, which denomination? My father is a Lutheran minister.”
My mother and step-father are both Lutheran (ELCA) ministers. My step-father celebrates the 50th anniversary of his ordination this month.
My mother is something of the black sheep of her family because her father was a American Baptist minister. Oh well.
“Being a member of a church does not mean whatever the church’s pastor professes all its members profess. If so, this state might not have capital punishment on its books.”
Amen, bro.
proud leftist spews:
ELCA, of course. My history may be revisionist, but I’m guessing your mother got ordained later in life than your step-father? I remember my dad, a proponent of ordaining women back in the early 70s, going to a convention in San Antonio to push female ordination. (Of course, now as a supporter of Barack Obama, some Hillaryites would accuse him of sexism.) He then got a female intern, hippie and liberal, in Wenatchee in the mid-70s. Chelan County, where Dino chose to pursue his frivolous lawsuit, was not quite ready for her. Imagine that.
Troll spews:
I’m lovin’ it.
Rick D. spews:
My left foot @ 36:
John McCain has done more in his lifetime than your entire non-branching family tree lineage combined will ever hope to do.
Daddy Love spews:
John McCain will not be elected because he has only one issue he cares about, and that’s staying in Iraq. He wants to American troops to stay in Iraq until they achieve “victory,” whatever that is. But if conditions get worse (presumably farther from “victory”), that’s why we should stay. And if conditions there get better (presumably closer to “victory”), then that’s why we should stay. And once we achieve “victory,” whatever that is, he still wants us to stay, for fifty or one hundred years.
This is his issue, and he clings to it like crazy. And that’s why he’s a loser in this election. Americans want us to leave Iraq. Americans want to bring the troops home. Americans do not want to vote for a guy who wants our troops to stay.
On other issues, McCain really has no particular stance. He’s perfectly happy to take positions today that are completely at odds with his fervent position on these issues at other times. Pandering? Election-year “conversion?” Well, yes, of course it is. And Americans are not so stupid and naive that they do not realize this.
So what are Republians left with? Not much. Their candidate’s signature issue is a loser with about 70% of the country, and on other issues he’s clearly willing to deal away any principles he may once have had in order to lie through his teeth for election-year advantage.
What’s left for Republicans, then, is to try to destroy Barack Obama. I remember Republicans crying crocodile tears about “the politics of personal destruction” as though they had not been this country’s most vicious perpetrators. And now we see it, don’t we? Barack Obama is a secret Muslim, say the underground e-mail campaigns. He consorts with “terrorists” or at least people who were terrorists forty years ago! “He is black,” is a big part of the subtext. He’s different. The same old appeal to the same old racist Republicans.
The Republican party, after this election, will be even more isolated into the party of the white Southern enclaves they have embraced and made central to their strategies. They don’t even try to broaden their appeal, but instead work ever harder at narrowing it. I gotta tell ya, it’s been fun to watch.
Meet president Obama.
Daddy Love spews:
Why does Obama win? Because he’s right:
The Bush administration ginned up a war because they thought it would help them enact their political agenda, and then used it as a club against their enemies (who, much like terrorists worldwide, multiplied the harder they clubbed) for the last five years.
Obama (and I) knew it was stupid and wrong then, and that God America knows it now. Now the Republican party and John McCain are married to this war, they own it, and it will take them down.
(with all due respect to our ruined economy, runaway oil prices, the corruption and oncompetence that led to Katrina/NOLA and so on, and so on, and so on)
My Left Foot spews:
Dear Rick D at 36:
You have no idea about my service to this country. You have no idea about my families service to this country.
When you want to attack me, might be helpful to have the necessary correct information. Not just some made up foolishness. I know Bush does that but here you need more than that.
Hugs and kisses.
Thanks for playing.
My Left Foot spews:
With the economy in the toilet, the war in Iraq going nowhere, the price of gas and other assorted ills, the one bright spot is the melt-down of the Republican party.
The evidence exists here on the board and in media on the right (Faux News). The worse it gets for them, the more shrill the right becomes everywhere including here. Their minds just can get wrapped around the fact that their policies have resulted in abject failure.
They have nothing left now. Can’t talk issues, they are clueless. The only thing left is to attack anything and everything. They are swinging in the dark.
correctnotright spews:
@45: Daddy Love

That is enough stupid church talk for me – when all the idiot republicans have is what a former minister said – then we know that they have no substance to campaign on. the economy, the unnecessary war in Iraq, the largest deficit in history. Republicans don’t talk about these things because all they care about is the trivial – what Obama’s former minister said – like it is in anyway important.
correctnotright spews:
@43: Still wating for Rick d. to crawl back in his hole – too bad this is just a blog and I can’t stuff his fat ass in one. You bring nothing to the table Rick – must make you feel good to sit and type insults while your republican party is ruining this country:
Largest budget deficit in history
Largest trade deficit ever
Gas prices at record highs
Foreclosures at record highs
the economy and jobs crashing
bush allowing compainies to send our jobs overseas
Over 500 billion (and counting) on an unnessary war in Iraq that has made us less secure
No bin Laden
No peace in Afghanistan – the taliban on the rise in Pakistan
Great job Bush, McCain and the republicans!
