Friday Morning Open Thread

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 5/31/19, 8:11 am

The last time I took a bus to Olympia, the entire way between Tacoma and Olympia, I was sat next to a very talkative man. Y’all! He had so much to say about his neighbor’s herpes. On and on and on.

Anyway, people complain about the Seattle freeze, and there was recently some discussion about it on Twitter. But I love it. It is a lovely combination of Nordic stoicism and big city life. Small talk is great but not with randos. I love not talking to you. I know that it isn’t for everyone, but I appreciate it so hard.

Is I wrong to just use this to thread to figure out where to watch the Women’s World Cup? I don’t own a TV, so when I want to watch sports, I have to go out (or stream). Men’s international soccer, especially the World Cup, usually has bars open whenever. But on the women’s side, there are fewer options. So do you know of anywhere that will be hosting games, even when time zones make it tough?

Open Thread Friday

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 5/24/19, 8:02 am

Dear Representative Jayapal;

I want to thank you for your support of impeachment hearings. I hope that it will be as broad as possible. While the obstruction in the Muller Report is important to investigate, he has committed plenty of high crimes and misdemeanors including many in the open. I hope that the House will consider the deaths of children in custody. I hope that you will consider the Lester Holt interview.

Thank you,

Carl Ballard

Turn me into dirt and spread me under a cool tree. Wait not yet: I mean after I die. But at least now that’s an option. I am relatively free of weird chemicals. Also, I have some connections to rural New England, can my relatives transport dirt me across state lines? Into a state that doesn’t do human composting?

Did you watch the finale of Game of Thrones? Like 95% or so of America, I didn’t watch. I hope you enjoyed it if you did watch it, but if my timeline is anything to go off of, you probably didn’t.

I don’t understand how the pollin is getting worse even as it has been rainy the last few days. Seriously, it was terrible after a couple weeks without rain, and now it’s TERRIBLE. Some years allergies barely hit me and this year they are knocking me out.

Congrats are in order for Boeing. A few more months of no sales, and the union will really take a hit. Just think about how much they can do to break the union if they never sell another plane again.

Fifteen Year’s of Horse’s Ass

by Goldy — Friday, 5/10/19, 9:07 am

I don’t blog much anymore, but I thought I’d stop by HA for a moment to mark my 15th blogiversary.

It was on May 10, 2004 that I put up my very first post, clearly with no fucking idea how this foul-mouthed blog would eventually take over my life.

I’ve got a habit of shooting for the moon, but I’m also a realist, so nobody was more surprised than me when my shitty little blog developed such a large and loyal audience. I’ve been very fortunate. So if you’re still around to read this thank you… thank you for your support. (Also, a big thank you to Darryl and Carl for keeping alive what would otherwise be a static archive.)

And finally, as always: Tim Eyman is a horse’s ass.
