Drinking Liberally extravaganza: Jay Inslee, Cindy Sheehan and FREE tickets

by Goldy — Tuesday, 10/3/06, 1:10 pm

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. And oh man do we have a busy schedule tonight.

Aaron Toso and Sandeep Kaushik will be urging you to vote No on initiatives 933 (lying developers) and 920 (estate tax repeal)… but they’re sure to be overshadowed by Congressman Jay Inslee, who will be stopping by to plug I-937, the renewable energy initiative. Then later in the evening, after she’s finished speaking at Town Hall, nationally renowned anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan will be joining us for a nightcap and a little bit of chat on the podcast.

And if that lineup’s not enough of a draw, the folks from Foolproof will be stopping by to raffle off a dozen free tickets to the big show Saturday night at Town Hall, in which Jeanine Garofalo, Atrios, the Seattle Times’ David Postman and I will be talking about politics and the press. That’s right… FREE TICKETS. Can’t beat that.

Not in Seattle? Washington liberals will also be drinking tonight in the Tri-Cities. Here’s a full run down of WA’s ten Drinking Liberally chapters:

Drinking Liberally… Primary Election Edition

by Goldy — Tuesday, 9/19/06, 2:32 pm

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. I’m hoping Patrick comes back so he can give a full report on what a “Mike McGavick Drunk” hangover feels like.

Today is Primary Election Day in Washington State, and we’ll be closely following the results all night long… as will, I’m guessing, 43rd LD candidate Bill Sherman, who has chosen the Alehouse as the location of his “Victory” party. If there’s only two victory parties you attend tonight, you’ll definitely want to visit Bill’s second.

Drinking Liberally

by Goldy — Tuesday, 9/12/06, 11:29 am

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. Our intrepid leader Nick sent out an email implying that we’ll have a breathalyzer at tonight’s event, so perhaps we’ll finally have our first annual Mike McGavick Drink Off to see exactly what it takes to get to a 0.17 blood-alcohol level. Once again I’m offering a free copy of Sen. Byron Dorgan’s new book, Take This Job and Ship It to the first person to show up with a functioning breathalyzer, and a free ride home to our victim.

And FYI, we may not be recording a Podcasting Liberally this week as our producers Richard and Gavin are both out of town, and Richard’s ETA is rather tentative. So if you’ve got some good recording gear and would like the honor of being Producer for A Day, come on down.

Assuming somebody brings along a breathalyzer and a 200-pound man, I intend to run a little experiment to see exactly how many drinks it takes to get “Mike McGavick drunk”. I’ve got a free copy of Sen. Byron Dorgan’s new book, Take This Job and Ship It for the first person to show up with a functioning breathalyzer, and 8 or 9 free drinks and ride home for one lucky volunteer.

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. I’m told that Port Commissioner Lloyd Hara will be joining us tonight. Mmm. I love port.

And if you happen to be a liberal drinker on the other side of the mountains, the Tri-Cities chapter of DL also meets Tuesday nights, 7 PM, Atomic Ale, 1015 Lee Blvd., in Richland. Go ask Jimmy for more details.

Drinking Liberally

by Darryl — Tuesday, 8/1/06, 2:41 pm

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight.

What do we really do each week at Drinking Liberally? Well, this week I suppose I’ll propose a toast to good health for Fidel Castro (better intestinal fortitude?)…while…um…burning an American flag…and…and…we’ll sing the national anthem—in Spanish—while smoking Cuban cigars. Yeah…that’s the kind of fun we have each week.

Won’t you join us?

We meet at the Montlake Ale House (2307 24th Avenue E). The fun begins at 8:00 p.m.

Drinking Liberally is hosted by Seattle bloggers Nick Beaudrot of Electoral Math and Thehim of Blog Reload. If you find yourself in the Tri-Cities area this evening, check out Drinking Liberally at the Atomic Ale in Richland. Jimmy has the details.

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. I’ll be there with parched lips.

I’m particularly looking forward to getting back on the podcast after the fogies boomers took it over last week. Betcha we speculate about tomorrow’s Supreme Court ruling on WA’s Defense of Marriage Act.

Oh… and if you happen to be a liberal drinker on the other side of the mountains I received an email from Jim this morning. Apparently it’s “freaking hot” out there so the Tri-Cities chapter of DL is meeting an hour later tonight, at 8 PM, Atomic Ale, 1015 Lee Blvd., in Richland.

The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. Well… almost every Tuesday. We didn’t meet last week because we were all patriotically drinking at various 4th of July parties. (And because the Ale House was closed.)

Anyway, I’m looking forward to a cold pint of Manny’s and a lively edition of Podcasting Liberally, also back after a one-week hiatus.
