On Saturday you can take light rail across the lake to a No Kings rally.

  • So many types of bees.
  • I can’t believe that Wilson is still Assessor. At least he’s facing consequences.
  • Appreciate Axios’s 3 part look at the Seattle crisis response team needing cops to tag along.
  • Look at all of the volunteer commissions in Spokane County. There’s probably one to join, or at least get involved with, in your area.

    Is Chuck Schumer a powerful Senate minority leader or what?

    Bill Melugin
    @BillMelugin_
    Because Senate Democrats didn’t end up accepting the Republican offer on DHS funding & negotiations fell apart yesterday, Dems will get *zero* of the ICE reforms they had been demanding, including ones that GOP had already agreed to, like showing ID, increased Congressional oversight, agreements to not hit sensitive locations, etc.

    These reforms were the reason Dems started the shutdown in the first place, and now instead of getting a few concessions on their demand list, they get none.

    The only thing they secured was no funding for CBP & ICE, which are largely already funded via the OBBB, and Republicans will seek to fund them even further without Dem votes in reconciliation instead.

    As for the Dem’s demand list on ICE reforms?

    “That ship has sailed,” Sen. Majority Leader John Thune said this morning. “They kissed that opportunity goodbye by failing to provide funding for those agencies.”

    NEW — the House Ethics Committee in a new stmt says “after careful deliberation that lasted until well past midnight, the adjudicatory subcommittee found that Counts 1-15 and 17-26 of the SAV had been proven” in the matter of Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.

    It adds: “Shortly after the House returns from the April recess, the full Committee will hold a hearing to determine what, if any, sanction would be appropriate for the Committee to recommend.”

    @1 Ending ICE’s constitutional violations and unlawful violence should be a bipartisan goal, not a Democratic goal, and if Republicans choose to keep it going then that’s on them.

    Republicans have tapped the taxpayer till to pay “reparations” to the likes of Ashli Babbitt and Michael Flynn. Eventually the bill will come due for all the citizens assaulted and snatched off the streets by ICE, and it won’t be cheap.

    @2 These Democrats agree.

    Unlike Republicans, they don’t sweep misbehavior by their own under the rug.

    @1 Still think your side won the DHS standoff? Then you haven’t read this:

    For weeks, Democrats put bills on the floor to fund the rest of the Homeland Security department …. Everything except ICE and Customs and Border Protection. Republicans voted against these bills. Over and over again.

    So when TSA agents were working without pay, when Coast Guard families were taking out payday loans and when travelers were stuck in long lines at the airport, that was not because Democrats refused to fund the government; it was because Republicans refused to negotiate.

    That was the GOP’s entire strategy. Create pressure. Assign blame. Wait for Democrats to fold. It has worked in the past.

    This time, it didn’t.

    https://www.ms.now/opinion/senate-dhs-funding-deal-democrats

    This time, it was Senate Republicans who caved.

    What about those reforms that Republicans are fighting tooth and claw? What, exactly, are Democrats demanding?

    No more roving patrols near churches and schools. Judicial warrants before agents enter homes or businesses. Officers identifying themselves, removing masks, wearing body cameras. A basic code of conduct with real accountability. Not a handshake agreement. Not “trust us.” Real reforms, written into law.

    Republicans rejected those demands. Repeatedly.

    https://www.ms.now/opinion/senate-dhs-funding-deal-democrats

    And they still are rejecting them. The demand for judicial warrants to search private homes and the private areas of businesses shouldn’t even be in dispute, because it’s a constitutional requirement.

    Reining in ICE detentions of U.S. citizens shouldn’t be in contention, either, because ICE has no legal authority to detain citizens for identification purposes.

    ICE has detained citizens who showed driver’s licenses or passports for up to three days to verify their identity by other means. Those detentions are illegal.

    @1

    Cool cool.

    Another way to put it is Republicans were willing to shut the government down for forty days and cause 4-6 hour long TSA lines to protect anonymous ICE thugs, assaults, warrantless door smashing…

    Yet another way to put it the grand old pedophiles kept it closed only to settle for what was offered 30 days ago.

    Still one more way to put it is at Thune told Donnie, “Don’t have the votes” Donnie said, “I WILL HAVE MY WAY OR YOU WON’T BE INVITED TO MY BIRTHDAY SLUMBER PARTY.” and Thune tried to get Donnie’s way knowing it was hopeless and then caved.

    But do go with a Twat from a Fox reporter about what it means instead of actual polling about who is to blame for the TSA lines, support for ICE,

    ones that GOP had already agreed to, like showing ID, increased Congressional oversight, agreements to not hit sensitive locations,

    These are already a matter of law. The ICE Fat Asses just lost in SDNY affirming that fact. After the DOJ admitted on the record that it had been lying to the court for nearly a year.

    This is the lying troll lying again to cover for how furiously disappointed he and Stephen Miller really are.

    Eleven times they voted no on funding for TSA. It will be on ads in September.

    MAGA Republicans want to make a huge deal about how much money they are extorting from businesses and PACs through Hatch Act violations galore. And it’s true. They’ve hauled record sums for a midterm.

    But the problem is that the unregulated spending is restricted to issue and messaging attack ads. And they’ve shit the bed on every good issue they had.

    TSA funding is a good example. Sure, they can lie about it. And they will. But thanks to the eleven times they voted no on TSA funding, on top of everything else they own the blame for, that’s a bell they aren’t going to want to ring too loudly.

    They’ll be spending record sums of dark money running ads about tranny swimsuit inspections while voters are facing $6 a gallon gas, 7 percent inflation, eating bulk beans and rice and the Marine hostages in Tehran are going on day 100 of captivity.
