I guess I got out of the habit of making these things. Anyway, thanks to Washington being one of the West Coast vaccine states I was able to get my flu shot and COVID booster yesterday. I have got those shots at the same pharmacy, last year so maybe my insurance is on record with them. But! Nobody asked if it was up to date or anything like that. Go make an appointment of you aren’t vaccinated or boosted this year.

There’s compelling proof that antifa did infiltrate on January 6 dressed up like Trump supporters and incited violence. Is that something you’d like the new J6 committee to look at?

    Everyday layoffs and higher prices:

Employers across the U.S. cut nearly 950,000 jobs this year through September, the largest number of layoffs since 2020, according to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Job cuts could surpass more than 1 million in 2025, the group forecast. The layoffs this year, although elevated, remain well below the massive workforce reductions in 2020, when the pandemic shuttered businesses across the nation, leading to 2 million layoffs through September of that year, Challenger noted.

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/layoffs-this-year-are-at-their-highest-level-since-2020-report-finds/ar-AA1NJZGP

A majority of American businesses intend to or have already raised their prices, while also implementing other company-wide adjustments, in order to cope with the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on their operations.

In a recent survey of senior executives by KPMG LLP, the U.S. arm of the British professional services firm, 44 percent of those polled said they have already increased prices as a result of tariffs. Two-thirds report having passed on up to 50 percent of these costs to their consumers, and 21 percent have passed on over half, up from 13 percent in July.

Further increases are expected, with 42 percent anticipating price increases of up to 5 percent, and an additional 29 percent predicting hikes of between 6 and 15 percent over the next six months.

    3) My last trip down there this summer, I recall Powell’s being open, no boarded up windows. Same for the Oregon Rail Heritage Museum. They even had Saturday rides on coaches pulled by a switch engine (unfortunately track can’t host the two operable big steam engines the museum is built around, they are too heavy), and a little addition and subtraction. The turntable from the former Brooklyn Roundhouse where the collection used to reside had been installed, the rare ALCO PA diesel in Nickel Plate colors was gone. On FB, Museum patrons hated the latter being gone, until they realized it wasn’t the museum or the city’s locomotive, it was Doyle’s(the retired railroader who maintains and runs the Daylight Steam engine, and whose name is on the building), and he sold it to a museum in Pennsylvania. Plus, they needed room for the old logging engines filling in for the two big steamers on the museum’s Holiday Express trains, until Oregon Pacific’s track is fixed so they can run the big ones again. Soon the museum will own the track, and with the revenue from freight traffic (still one customer on it), they plan to fix it up.

Across from ORHM, is OMSI, home to the USS Blueback, the last active US Navy Diesel-Electric submarine when she was retired. When I toured her, although the Torpedo Tubes were disabled, they had three torpedoes on display. Of course, de-activated, one is a Mk14(based on reputation, no need to worry, it was the controversial submarine torpedo of WWII), a Mk37(based on reputation, a threat to the Blueback not any Willamette traffic or bridge. A faulty battery and motor start on a Mk37 is one of the probable causes for the loss of the Scorpion), and a Mk48 from when she was last in service. When I toured her, was thinking of the exercise in Down Periscope (yes, I know it’s a movie), would be more plausible to have used Blueback, but best way to simulate underway running, is use a museum boat being towed to and from a periodic dry docking, and they got lucky with the Pampanito in San Francisco. Of all the WW2 submarines that are museums across the country, Pampanito has a restored and working Torpedo Data Computer. That device, when they fixed the defects in the Mk14(hard sell, one of the Pacific Sub Force commanders doggedly blamed his captains, no way the magnetic exploders he designed were the reason the torpedo failed to take out Japanese ships in the early days of the war), may have been key to turning the sub war around, by mid 1945 were almost out of targets.

🚨#BREAKING: Democrat NC Rep. Cecil Brockman has been charged with statutory rape, indecent liberties with child between the ages of 13 and 15.

Brockman OPPOSED the “Parents’ Bill of Rights” which mandated that schools tell parents about their child’s mental and physical health.
    7:27 AM · Oct 9, 2025

Of course he opposed it. It should be up to the minor child to man up and tell her parents she was raped, not the school-employed adult witness to the crime. No matter what the consequences.

“While the legal process has yet to play out, it’s clear he cannot effectively serve his constituents and should resign immediately,” Stein said in a statement.

House Democratic Leader Robert Reives (D-Chatham) initially issued a statement saying the charges, if true, would disqualify Brockman from public office.

When more information became available as the morning went on, Reives put out another statement.

“As we continue to learn more about the allegations against Rep. Brockman this morning, it has become clear that he is unable to continue serving in the House of Representatives. Rep. Brockman must resign immediately,” Reives said in his second statement.

The Trump administration is considering whether to spend up to $50 million in foreign aid to protect polar bears in Greenland and $25 million for snow leopards in Nepal, proposals strikingly at odds with a parallel initiative to slash humanitarian and wildlife programs deemed incompatible with President Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post and people familiar with the matter.

Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him, according to five administration officials familiar with the episode. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room cancelled so she would have to stay with him.
