“The David Goldstein Show” tonight on Newsradio 710-KIRO

by Goldy — Sunday, 10/29/06, 6:42 pm

Again, a crappy day for Birds fans (Seahawks and Eagles) so I’m just going to take out my anger and frustration by trash-talking some politicians tonight on “The David Goldstein Show” on Newsradio 710-KIRO, from 7PM to 10PM.

7PM: Do multimillionaires need yet another tax break? Multimillionaire Seattle developer Martin Selig has sunk nearly a million dollars into estate tax repeal Initiative 920, and multimillionaire Seattle Times publisher Frank Blethen has contributed the blood, sweat and rhetorical tears of his entire editorial board. But in a state with the most regressive tax structure in the nation (by far) can one possibly justify making estate tax repeal a top priority? No on 920 spokesman Sandeep Kaushik will join me to field your questions, and hammer a few more nails into the initiative’s coffin. Kaushik, a former newspaperman himself, will also join me in ranting on the way this self-serving initiative has distorted the editorial process at many of our state’s leading newspapers.

8PM: What can we expect from a Democratic Senate? Um… a Democratic state Senate, that is. Washington Dems currently hold a nominal 2-seat majority in the state Senate, with two conservative Dems often voting with the Republicans on key issues. But Dems are poised to pick up as many as five seats in close races throughout the state. Two of the party’s most promising new candidates, Eric Oemig (45th LD) and Yvonne Ward (31st LD) join me to talk about their races, and what we might expect from a real Democratic majority.

9PM: Obama-rama hit town this week. Did Seattle just meet the next President of the United States? Illinois Sen. Barack Obama was greeted by standing-room-only crowds in the wake of his kinda-sorta announcement that he might in fact be considering a run for the White House. Obama was in town hawking his book and campaigning for Darcy Burner and Maria Cantwell, and local blogger Andrew Villeneuve will give us a firsthand account of the big rally. Can Obama win? Is America ready to elect its first black president? Do you just not get the whole Obama thing? Give me a call and share your thoughts.

Tune in tonight (or listen to the live stream) and give me a call: 1-877-710-KIRO (5476).

Checkers and the oil industry are both zero sum games. The oil industry claims it is not a zero sum game — but it is. If a minister compares the legal problems of Tom DeLay to the persecution of Christ , that is an asinine comparison.

A zero sum game is where there are a set number of pieces — no more, no less — like , um, checkers, or chess, or bituminous coal, or oil. I’ll let you read up on game theory yourself to figure out the significance of the oil industry insisting that oil production is NOT a zero sum game(Put on your thinking cap here, i.e., in limited supply –like the game pieces in a checkers game)when it clearly and obviously is.

That’s how I know you are a third tier Republican — you are stupid.

If life wasn’t rosy in Seattle fish wrappers today DEMOCRATIC win will make the state greener, WOW. Now these Clowns are counting their eggs before they hatch. Jim McDermott the man that sleep while Queen Gregoire was appointed Governor of Seattle. Woops Washington. Now that is the person you want representing you in Washington DC. You know the chap that flew to Bagdad Iraq to save Saddam Hussein from himself. Now he was the only Liberal that voted against the War and the others were not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Oh!!!! Did I say that, only one person that could see all the lies the Socialist Democrats claimed Bush said. WOW !!!!!!!!!!! What fools do we have in Washington take your pick there is two Washington and one lives in the twilight Zone. Now is he really going to create a national health care system when the folks here who are all Socialist Democrats can’t pass it in this state? Maybe but unlikely. Alternative energy, you got to be kidding they have not figure out how to tax it yet, many years off. Now you folks tell me how you think little Jimmy will make a hit in Washington and that’s DC.

Democratic win would strengthen state’s clout
    By Alicia Mundy
    Seattle Times Washington bureau

WASHINGTON — Rep. Jim McDermott, Washington’s most liberal congressman, is called courageous by his fans and an embarrassment bordering on irrelevant by his detractors.
Next month, both camps may be calling him Mr. Chairman.
If Democrats win control of the House, McDermott could become an important politician.
He’d get a subcommittee chairmanship on the House Ways and Means Committee, a platform he says he’d use to push for universal health-care coverage and alternative energy.
Speculation about McDermott’s potential elevation — and that of other Democrats, such as Rep. Norm Dicks of Bremerton — is part of the grand guessing game in full swing on Capitol Hill.

BTW Selig is a FREELOADER!!! At times he’s owed Seattle City Light over $1 million in unpaid utility bills, and used to be a chronic property-tax late payer until they started charging scofflaws like him 12% interest. But he’s got $1 million to buy misleading TV and radio ads for his personal initiative! Go figure. That guy’s priorities are fucked up.

Newspapers Across Washington State Endorse Mike

From Seattle to Spokane and from Centralia to Lynden, newspapers have endorsed Mike McGavick for U.S. Senate. Mike’s message of real change for Washington is cutting across ideological, partisan and geographic boundaries. Mike has tied the incumbent for the number of major Washington state newspaper endorsements — a huge victory and a sign that Washingtonians agree that we need to do better.

These newspapers know that you can’t expect change in Washington, D.C., by sending the same people back — and they agree that a vote for Mike is a vote for common sense and independent-minded Northwest values!

    Inhofe Blisters Global Warming Alarmists

Newsweek Magazine has finally admitted that it got it wrong on climate change 31 years ago.

In an Oct. 23 article that appeared on the news weekly’s Web site, senior editor Jerry Adler wrote that an April 1975 piece on global cooling had been “spectacularly wrong.”

In that article, the magazine told readers that the Earth was heading into a new Ice Age.

It reported that there were “ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically.” And it warned of a “drastic decline in food production” that would cause shortages affecting “just about every nation on Earth.”

Scientists, Newsweek said, were calling on governments to take immediate action to head off the coming catastrophe. The magazine even offered a possible solution — pour soot over the Arctic ice cap to help it melt.

obama is a nice story. He may well be president but not in 2008. If the democrats are stupid enough to send him up for the presidential election before he’s ready, it could ruin him politically forever.

In case you haven’t read a history book lately, there have only been two presidents elected in the last 70 years that were not either a former Vice President or a Governor of a state. And none since Kennedy was shot. Obama is not going to break that trend. you want to know who your next president is? Look for a southern democratic governor that can play it down the middle.

re 53: Here’s an article that explains it to you: And to anyone else who thinks your mockery is in any way factual, they’ll see this quote and this link every time you refer to zero-sum games and oil. You disgust me you sneering buffoon! —“Here’s the bottom line: Any finite resource is a ZSG. Even an infinite resource has only 100% of marketshare, to be divided amongst competitors. That percentage is also a ZSG.

Let’s see how some of these zero sum issues apply to different areas:
    >
Markets: are probably the best example of a ZSG. In 2000, the Wishire 5000 was worth $1.2 trillion more than it is today. Some people bought, some people sold. Mark-to-market, there is a loss to the collective buyers from the collective sellers. Its even more specific with individual companies.
I short the SPX to you — each tick is zero sum — there’s a winner and a loser.
Stocks that always go up and never go down are exempt from this; Please let me know as soon as you find any.”

It started out as a gag here on the editorial page of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and soon became a superstition: Every time the stock market took a little dip, we’d reprint one of Paul Krugman’s dour columns from the New York Jaundiced Times about the imminent doom of the American economy. Almost immediately the market would bounce back and then some. It worked every time. But we may have overdone it of late. By now the Dow Jones has started to cross into 12,000 territory. A few more Krugman columns explaining how the economy has cooled off and the thing could overheat. We reprinted one of his columns [recently] and, sure enough, by the end of the day, the Dow ended the day over 12,000 for the first time. AN HISTORIC HIGH! and all that jazz. Well, sure. The Krugman touch never fails. The more Professor Eeyore says the economy is going to hell, the more heavenly it gets. Can it be just a coincidence? The
Dow seems to surge whenever it sees ‘Paul Krugman’ in a by-line. It must be a kind of Pavlovian reaction by now.” —Paul Greenberg

Despite its cropping up as one of the most reliably quoted bits of deceitful GOP propaganda since Communist putting fluoride in our drinking water, the “new Ice Age” theory of the 1970s was
    (1) Proposed and believed by only a minority within the scientific community
    (2) Consistent with the observed cooling trend from the 1940s through the 1970s
    (3) Reflective of the contemporary undeveloped understanding of global climate
    (4) Examined and basically debunked by the rest of the community (so to say “scientists believed in global cooling” if you mean that “all or most scientists adhered to the New Ice age theory” is either ignorant and deceptive or both)
    (5) Replaced by a robust climate research program out of which has emerged the current overwhelming, essentially-unanimous consensus of the scientific community on global anthropocentric climate change (referred to by klake, the lazy press, and the ignorant as “global warming”).

Umm, all he said was that she is polarizing. The divisive evil one is Bush. But be that as it may, if one’s faults were what disqualified one for high office, (a) Bush would not be president and (b) McCain wouldn’t have a chance. Go Hill! Drive MTR crazy!

HA Commenting Policy

It may be hard to believe from the vile nature of the threads, but yes, we have a commenting policy. Comments containing libel, copyright violations, spam, blatant sock puppetry, and deliberate off-topic trolling are all strictly prohibited, and may be deleted on an entirely arbitrary, sporadic, and selective basis. And repeat offenders may be banned! This is my blog. Life isn’t fair.
