On Saturday morning I issued a bold challenge to my readers to double the number of contributors via HA’s Act Blue page from 234 to 468 by the end of October. I challenged you to leverage the power of the netroots — to reach out to your friends and family, and personally ask them to contribute to Darcy Burner and Peter Goldmark.
If only 50 of HA’s thousands of readers respond to my challenge and bring in just five new donors each, we will easily meet our target. If the 234 of you who have already made generous donations bring in only one new contributor each, well… you can do the math for yourself.
Here is what I am asking you to do. I want you to put together a list of like-minded friends and relatives, and I want you to email them and personally beg them to give money to Darcy and Peter. If they say no, ask them again. If they do not respond, I want you to give them a call. I want you to personally plead with them that this election may be our best and last shot at turning our nation around, and that Darcy and Peter will be leaders that will make them proud.
I’m not going to tell you exactly what to write or say; you know these people best, so you are the best person to craft an appeal. But I do want you to set a personal goal
Expand your voice til it’s heard in DC. Get Darcy Mo’ Money!
Money talks! The power and money of the middle and lower classes exceeds that of the ruling elite. Use it now before they close the internet free-speech window.
You have no freedom of speech on the shop floor or the corporate office. Change things now!
Contribute to Darcy Burner and Ned Lamont.
Wow, for being such a weak candidate, Darcy’s sure getting Republican cash aimed at her, isn’t she?
How can anyone NOT support http://tinyurl.com/opkdy ? You’d have to be a Republican!
Republicans hate more than paying taxes to pay for their wars. They also hate paying wages to their workers! Not only that, but Republicans hate little girls, cute bunnies, and butterflies too!!!
Republicans = sociopaths
For photo of Republican sociopath, click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Bundy
My brother and his wife are going to be giving, but I can’t guarantee it will be though your site. I sent the link, though. He’s just sort of an independent cuss. You knowa Democrat.
Maybe if anyone knew who Darcy was, it’d be easier there Goldy. Too bad she’s an unknown nobody. Don’t waste your $$$$. I know Roger Rodent will try to make a contribution with his food stamps if that helps.
We (my wife and I) are going through our budget and re-examining our priorities. Our ancestors gave their lives and fortunes in several wars (civil war – both sides, WWI, WWII, Korea), so the least we can do is give some money toward the ideals in which we believe.
On the chopping block – video/DVD rentals, movies, meals out in excess of a couple times a month, no outside lunches other than business-related ones. It adds up several hundred dollars a month, a couple of thousand dollars a year. I think we can do without that for the next six months or so to finance a change in Congress.

“Maybe if anyone knew who Darcy was, it’d be easier there Goldy. Too bad she’s an unknown nobody. Don’t waste your $$$$. I know Roger Rodent will try to make a contribution with his food stamps if that helps.”
Wow, you mean as an “unknown nobody”, she’s managed to get into a statistical dead heat with a sitting Congressman?
I suppose we should thank the Republicans for mentioning her so prominently in all those TV ads that they’re running. Considering how much credibility the Republicans have these days, the only thing folks are likely to come away with after watching those ads is the idea that this “unknown nobody” has the Republicans running scared.
We said from the start that the biggest problem we would have would be name recognition. Nice of the Republicans to help us with that.
Keep all that Republican money flowing into the district, guys. We’re always happy to have the Republicans bolstering the local economy, and every dime you spend here is one that you don’t have to smear some other Democrat.
Let’s see. You’re pulling out of Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and parts of Arizona now, and working hard here to defend a “safe” seat against an “unknown nobody”. Did I get that right?
Mark1
Funny but the NRCC and the RNC seem to know very well who she is.
“Wow, you mean as an “unknown nobody”, she’s managed to get into a statistical dead heat with a sitting Congressman?”
Also a lying one…
Harry Reid is not only clearing up any misunderstanding on the part of the overly-dense Republicans about who owned the land he sold, but is taking a numbers of extra, not-even-required steps on even pettier matters to insulate himself from further attack.
That is so UNlike a Republican, like Duke Cunningham, who had a menu of favors and their cost in donations printed up for his bribers.

Sure pal. You win a national Merit Scholarship, graduate from Harvard, and make the cut at Microsoft. THen you can tell us about how able Darcy Burner is.
Do you all REALLY think that the Religious Right will be a stable, reliable Republican voting bloc now that we all know that the GOP is crawling with homos?
I saw Darcy Burner and DumbDave being interviewed by Robert Mak yesterday. I could not believe how much of an airhead Reichert is. Every question seemed to trigger some response about his experience. He was devoid of substance. When asked about when troops should perhaps be brought home from Iraq, he started talking about having commanded a SWAT team. He is an embarrassment, incapable of independent thought. Darcy, on the other hand, tracked the conversation and responded appropriately. She would be quite an asset in Congress.
When is Dave Reichert going to come out to his wife and family?
I wonder what Repuplican Sociopath Ted Bundy would have done if he’d been debating Darcy Burner like Rubberstamp Reichert was on TV last Sunday. Rubberstamp kept interrupting with his inane chatter and she finally had to firmly request that he stop interrupting and let her finish her statement. She followed that request with a look that shot daggers at the dumb bastard and he just meekly complied.
Oddly enough, the wingnut take on this was that it was a wonderfully successful tactic for the Rubberized One. I, on the other hand, have been looking long and hard for Democrats who will stand up to these blabbering Republican bullies.
Really, how much credibility does any Republican have accusing a Democrat of being a tax and spender. You just look like the manipulative , lying bungholes that you are.
Hee hee, I was talking to a Republican guy at my finess club about all the problems his party is having with Foley, etc. He expressed a hope that Harry Reid’s problems would hit the news and make it a little better for Republicons. I told him that I doubt if it would matter unless Harry Reid was seducing teen-age boys. He looked kinda shocked and I almost felt sorry for him.
18
Gosh, I mean “come out and see his wife and family.” Didn’t mean to imply that Dave Reichert goes to gay bars in DC. Or here. Not that I’ve seen him. I mean, I was just in there getting some change…

Have you asked her one?
Has anyone heard from JCH lately?
Is he OK?
Did he survive the earth quake OK?
Like a give a rat’s ass about JCH! Fuck him. I hope he lost everything and FEMA’s on the way to help!
The asshole.
re 21: Great debate format! Only Yes and NO answers. Something that will fit in a bumper sticker.
25
No. His head exploded. That’s what caused all the shaking over there.
I’ve gone to a townhall meeting for Darcy Burner and found her to be intelligent and forthright in her answers. She was even polite to a person who challenged her answer to what she would do to dishonest contractors in Iraq and NOLA.
The person’s question was: “How is holding Halliburton financially reponsible for their overcharging different than what we’re already doing?”
Quick: Yes or No!

Something tells me that Anonymous has not won a National Merit Scholarship, graduated from Harvard, or passed a Microsoft interview loop.
Darcy Burner says she will not accept any pay raises as Representative until the minimum wage is increased. I’ll take that as a Yes.
Some answers from Darcy Burner:
Will you vote to fully implement the bipartisan 9/11 Commission recommendations?
Yes.
Will you vote to fund the VA and extend TRICARE healthcare for families of national Guard and Reserve personnel?
Yes.
Will you vote to demand a plan to secure Iraq without an indefinite commitment of US troops?
Yes.
Will you vote to oppose massive tax breaks for oil companies?
Yes.
Will you vote to oppose the President’s plans to privatize Social Security?
Yes.
Will you vote to support efforts to provide essential family planning and healthcare services to poor nations?
Yes.
Will you vote to support stem cell research to find cures for diseases that cripple and kill millions of people?
Yes.
Will you vote to reform the Medicare Part D prescription drug program to allow the government to negotiate for lower pries for seniors?
Yes.
Will you vote to raise the federal minimum wage?
Yes.
Dave Reichert is a failed lifetime politician who does not deserve a second term to screw us again.
Peter Goldmark actually personally asked you to help raise funds for his 5th district campaign? You realize, of course, that PG needs to be a moderate D to win. This just proves that too far left (of center) out of district money is coming into his campaign. By calling attention to this blog and its left of center viewpoints, McMorris could actually gain ground by this particular article. Goldmark should realize that many of the positions here @ HA are not in tune with his more centrist-slightly right constituents. From my point of view, this “personal” request is a wrong move. Heres hoping that this blog is being circulated through-out the rural areas.
Have a nice day, Farmer Fred
I sure wish I could hear Bush on the day he realizes that he has lost one or both houses of Congress. Damn, that would be a good one.
Yes donks send more money to Darcy. Then I won’t be competing against your sorry asses for goods and services! BTW those goods and services are usually supplied by the little people, you know the ones who Nancy Pelosi and Charles Rangel will screw over when Charles doesn’t renew the tax increases if moonbats get Congressional control.
Yakima fishwrap endorsed McGimmick in its Sunday edition. Guess who owns the Yakima fishwrap?

Harry Reid broke the law and is now trying to fix it. Shame on him for trying to fix his crime after it was revealed to the public. Too little, too late…

Read her resume at http://www.darcyburner.com/about.php and this time notice the numerous errors and the changes over time.

You show your ignorance with your comment “now that we all know that the GOP is crawling with homos? ”
Please stick to the discussion at hand without branding all people that do not believe as you do. If you were to carry out that line of logic you would soon cross over into racism or other ignorance…i.e. He makes too much money therefore he is a Jew… The same holds true for many other partisan posters here so do please talk with them about their intelligent postings.
On behalf of everyone that holds democracy dear, I want all you leftwing nutjobs to give EVERYTHING in your futile attempt to plug the gaping hole in the SS Titanic Burner. She a goin’ down and the more money you can throw at the gaping hole the better!
C’mon you libs! Give till it hurts! Mortgage the house, sell the kids if you must! SS Titanic Burner needs your money now.
“It’s very simple. Darcy and Peter personally reached out to me, and I personally reached out to you. “
I simply don’t believe you Goldstein. Neither Burner nor Goldmark would dare be seen in public with you. Prove me wrong- I DARE YOU!
“So please, send out a few emails and pick up the phone, and prove to the old guard at the Seattle Times what people-powered politics can really do.”
Aw hell Goldstein, why don’t you pull out all the stops ang give them the REAL speech?
“Communists the world over are wiser than the bourgeoisie, they understand the laws governing the existence and development of things, they understand dialectics and they can see farther The bourgeoisie does not welcome this g truth because it does not want to be overthrown.
As everyone knows, our Party passed through these twentyeight years not in peace but amid hardships, for we had to fight enemies, both foreign and domestic, both inside and outside the Party. We thank Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin for giving us a weapon. This weapon is not a machinegun~ but MarxlsmLeninisn,….
The Russians made the October Revolution and created the world’s first socialist state. Under the leadership of Lenin and Stalin, the revolutionary energy of the great proletariat and labouring people of Russia, hitherto latent and unseen by foreigners, suddenly erupted like a volcano, and the Chinese and all mankind began to see the Russians in a new light. Then, and only then, did the Chinese enter an entirely new era in their thinking and their life. They found MarxismLeninism, the universally applicable truth, and the face of China began to change….
There are bourgeois republics in foreign lands, but China cannot have a bourgeois republic because she is a country suffering under imperialist oppression. The only way is through a people’s republic led by the working class….
Twentyfour years have passed since Sun Yatsen’s death, and the Chinese revolution, led by the Communist Party of China, has made tremendous advances both in theory and practice and has radically changed the face of China. Up to now the principal and fundamental experience the Chinese people have gained is twofold:
1. Internally, arouse the masses of the people. That is, unite the working class, the peasantry, the urban petty bourgeoisie and the national bourgeoisie, form a domestic united front under the leadership of the working class, and advance from this to the establishment of a state which is a people’s democratic dictatorship under the leadership of the working class and based on the alliance of workers and peasants.
2. Externally, unite in a common struggle with those nations of the world which treat us as equals and unite with the peoples of all countries. That is, ally ourselves with the Soviet Union, with the People’s Democracies and with the proletariat and the broad masses of the people in all other countries, and form an international united front.
“You are leaning to one side.” Exactly. The forty years’ experience of Sun Yatsen and the twentyeight years’ experience of the Communist Party have taught us to lean to one side, and we are firmly convinced that in order to win victory and consolidate it we must lean to one side. In the light of the experiences accumulated in these forty years and these twentyeight years, all Chinese without exception must lean either to the side of imperialism or to the side of socialism. Sitting on the fence will not do, nor is there a third road. We oppose the Chiang Kaishek reactionaries who lean to the side of imperialism, and we also oppose the illusions about a third road.
“You are too irritating.” We are talking about how to deal with domestic and foreign reactionaries, the imperialists and their running dogs, not about how to deal with anyone else. With regard to such reactionaries, the question of irritating them or not does not arise. Irritated or not irritated, they will remain the same because they are reactionaries. Only if we draw a clear line between reactionaries and revolutionaries, expose the intrigues and plots of the reactlonaries, arouse the vigilance and attention of the revolutionary ranks, heighten our will to fight and crush the enemy’s arrogance can we Isolate the reactionaries, vanquish them or supersede them. We must not show the slightest timidity before a wild beast.
“Victory is possible even without international help.” This is a mistaken idea. In the epoch in which imperialism exists, it is impossible for a genuine people’s revolution to win victory in any country without various forms of help from the international revolutionary forces, and even if victory were won, it could not be consolidated. This was the case with the victory and consolidation of the great October Revolution, as Lenin and Stalin told us long ago.
“We need help from the British and U.S. governments.” This, too, is a naive idea in these times. Would the present rulers of Britain and the United States, who are imperialists, help a people’s state? Why do these countries do business with us and, supposing they might be willing to lend us money on terms of mutual benefit in the future, why would they do so? Because their capitalists want to make money and their bankers want to earn interest to extricate themselves from their own crisis-it is not a matter of helping the Chinese people.
“You are dictatorial.” My dear sirs, you are right, that is just what we are All the experience the Chinese people have accumulated through several decades teaches us to enforce the people’s democratic dictatorship, that is, to deprive the reactionaries of the right to speak and let the people alone have that right.
“Who are the people?” At the present stage in China, they are the working class, the peasantry, the urban petty bourgeoisie and the national bourgeoisie. These classes, led by the working class and the Communist Party unite to form their own state and elect their own government they enforce their dictatorship over the running dogs of imperialism-the landlord class and bureaucratbourgeoisie, as well as the representatives of those classes, the Kuomintang reactionaries and their accomplices-suppress them, allow them only to behave themselves and not to be unruly in word or deed. If they speak or act in an unruly way, they will be promptly stopped and punished. Democracy is practised within the ranks of the people, who enjoy the rights of freedom of speech, assembly, association and so on. The right to vote belongs only to the people, not to the reactionaries. The combination of these two aspects, democracy for the people and dictatorship over the reactionaries, is the people’s democratic dictatorship.
“Why must things be done this way?” The reason is quite clear to everybody. If things were not done this way, the revolution would fail, the people would suffer, the country would be conquered.
“Don’t you want to abolish state power?” Yes, we do, but not right now; we cannot do it yet. Why? Because imperialism still exists, because domestic reaction still exists, because classes still exist in our country. Our present task is to strengthen the people’s state apparatus-mainly the people’s army, the people’s police and the people’s courts-in order to consolidate national defence and protect the people’s interests. Given this condition, China can develop steadily, under the leadership of the working class and the Communist Party, from an agricultural into an industrial country and from a new-democratic into a socialist and communist society, can abolish classes and realize the Great Harmony. The state apparatus, Including the army, the police and the courts, is the instrument by which one class oppresses another It is an instrument for the oppression of antagonistic classes; it is violence and not “benevolence”. “You are not benevolent!” Quite so We definitely do not apply a policy of benevolence to the reactionaries and towards the reactionary activities of the reactionary classes. Our policy of benevolence is applied only within the ranks of the people, not beyond them to the reactionaries or to the reactionary activities of reactionary classes….
Here, the method we employ is democratic, the method of persuasion, not of compulsion. When anyone among the people breaks the law, he too should be punished, imprisoned or even sentenced to death; but this is a matter of a few individual cases, and it differs in principle from the dictatorship exercised over the reactionaries as a class.
As for the members of the reactionary classes and individual reactionaries, so long as they do not rebel, sabotage or create trouble after their political power has been overthrown, land and work will be given to them as well in order to allow them to live and remould themselves through labour into new people. If they are not willing to work, the people’s state will compel them to work….
Such remoulding of members of the reactionary classes can be accomplished only by a state of the people’s democratic dictatorship under the leadership of the Communist Party. When it is well done, China’s major exploiting classes, the landlord class and the bureaucratbourgeoisie (the monopoly capitalist class), will be eliminated for good. There remain the national bourgeoisie; at the present stage, we can already do a good deal of suitable educational work with many of them. When the time comes to realize socialism, that is, to nationalize private enterprise, we shall carry the work of educating and remoulding them a step further. The people have a powerful state apparatus in their hands-there is no need to fear rebellion by the national bourgeoisie….
The people’s democratic dictatorship is based on the alliance of the working class, the peasantry and the urban petty bourgeoisie, and mainly on the alliance of the workers and the peasants, because these two classes comprise 80 to 90 per cent of China’s population. These two classes are the main force in overthrowing imperialism and the Kuomintang reactionaries. The transition from New Democracy to socialism also depends mainly upon their alliance.
The people’s democratic dictatorship needs the leadership of the working class. For it is only the working class that is most farsighted, most selfless and most thoroughly revolutionary. The entire history of revolution proves that without the leadership of the working class revolution triumphs. In the epoch of imperialism, in no country can any other class lead any genuine revolution to victory. This is clearly proved by the fact that the many revolutions led by China’s petty bourgeoisie and national bourgeoisie all failed….
To sum up our experience and concentrate it into one point, it is: the people’s democratic dictatorship under the leadership of the working class (through the Communist Party) and based upon the alliance of workers and peasants. This dictatorship must unite as one with the international revolutionary forces. This is our formula, our principal experience, our main programme. …
The Communist Party of the Soviet Union is our best teacher and we must learn from it. The situation both at home and abroad is in our favour we can rely fully on the weapon of the people’s democratic dictatorship, unite the people throughout the country, the reactionaries excepted, and advance steadily to our goal. “
As her only public-spirited pursuits, Burner offers youth coaching and a stint on her community club board. Perhaps more troubling is her spotty voting record. She missed either primary or general election votes in four years, starting in 2000.
Still more disappointingly, Burner has run a mean-spirited campaign that would make Republican spinmeister Karl Rove proud. In The Seattle Times/KUOW-FM congressional debate last week, she accused Reichert of “lying.” She called him “unprincipled” and “politically crass.”
The reason to send Reichert home and send Darcy to Washington is obvious:
A vote for Dave Reichert is a vote for more of the same failed policies, and everyone knows it.

Bullshit.
You answer the question: “Do you all REALLY think that the Religious Right will be a stable, reliable Republican voting bloc now that we all know that the GOP is crawling with homos?”
Many of the top GOP lawmakers have highly placed, influential staffers who are openly gay or closeted gay. Ken Mehlman is pretty surely closeted gay. Foley/Reynolds chief of staff Kirk Forham is openly gay. Mark Dybul, the nation’s new global AIDS coordinator, is openly gay. Condi Rice just referred to his partner’s mother as Dybul’s “mother-in-law” at an event. Do you think the Christian Right didn’t notice?
An opponent in the FLA governor’s race, Reform Party candidate Max Linn, publicly stated that Republican Charles Crist is gay. Mark Foley was an openly gay Republican, and the leadership covering for him riled the Right.
There are gay people working in or for the Republican party all acrtoss this country. DO YOU THINK THAT AS MANY ANTI-GAY RIGHT-WING CHRISTIANS WILL VOTE REPUBLICAN in the light of this all “coming out” as it were, before the election? I don’t.

“Harry Reid broke the law and is now trying to fix it.”
It’s not even clear if Harry Reid violated Senate Ethics requirements. But he IS trying to fix it, and going way beyond in order to make sure that there is no doubt about his transparency. Compare to Dennis Hastert’s “transparency” over HIS land deal. Has he amended a disclosure?
Of course, he IS pretty busy hanging onto his position and his seat. But then, Harry’s busy preparing to become Majority Leader and HE found the time.

“plug the gaping hole in the SS Titanic Burner. ”
Yeah, Darcy’s in so much trouble that she’s in the DCCC’s Red to Blue first wave and she’s tied in the polls. There are a lot of Republicans fighting for their political lives who would like to be in that kind of trouble.
Mark Dybul, the nation’s new global AIDS coordinator, is openly gay. Condi Rice just referred to his partner’s mother as Dybul’s “mother-in-law” at an event. Do you think the Christian Right didn’t notice?
Oh, they most definitely noticed.
Mark Foley was an openly gay Republican
Small correction. Foley wasn’t out. He was, however, the most ineffectively closeted gay man in the history of western civilization. Seemingly everyone knew it, but he hadn’t admitted it publicly (which he did only after the scandal broke).

Daddy Love – Your insistance of that all GOP are crawling with homos as shown by “Many of the top GOP lawmakers have highly placed, influential staffers who are openly gay or closeted gay” continues to show your lack of intelligence.
Democrats are suppose to believe that Homo are OK so 1. Why are you even bringing this subject up and 2. There are folks that are homosexual everywhere regardless of their political leandings. So your comments only show your total lack of understanding.
You are merely trying to ‘flame’ people but have proven that you only burnt yourself!
