From being a complete unknown to getting up to a statistical dead heat, this “sinking ship” is doing pretty well.
Regardless of the eventual outcome (and since I don’t live in the 8th, I really don’t get much of a say in the matter) we Democrats have won something here.
The Republicans have had to send “boatloads of cash” to hold onto this seat (which is still in question). All that cash is being used to hold onto a “safe” Republican seat, and is not being used to support more marginal races.
Just a few months ago, we were talking of making “inroads into the Republican majority” in the House, and “gaining a few Senate seats”.
Now, the question seems to be how big a majority we’ll have in the House, and whether we can take control of the Senate, or if we’ll have to settle for a 50/50 tie with Vice President Cheney casting a bunch of deciding votes and having to seriously consider the opinions of the moderate Republicans.
So, even if she loses the race, we win, and if she wins the race, we win big.
Feels pretty good.

No, I recall a number of the “other moonbats”, including Goldy, saying pretty much the same thing.
Of course, we’d like to win and still think we’ve got a pretty good chance in this race. But every time Goldy puts out a pitch for more help here, he’s pretty clear that this race is not a sure thing. You Constitution-hating rednecks may get to keep this seat, no matter what we do.
But… To keep this one, you’ll have to send “boatloads of cash” that will then be unavailable for last-minute sliming campaigns against other Democrats, and if you do keep this one, what do you get? A non-entity that has no real purpose other than to vote the party line. He’ll be pretty harmless as long as he’s in the minority party.
So, even if we lose this one, we win, and we might still win. After all, we really like Darcy, and from what I can tell, Mr. Reichert’s main draw for you folks is the “R” after his name. So we’ll keep helping Darcy, and you folks just keep outspending us three or four to one.

“ Netroots can’t get anyone elected”
Wrong. Although it would be totally correct to say that the netroots cannot get everyone elected.
But the netroots played a pivotal role in the elections of Stephanie Herseth, Ben Chandler, and Barack Obama.
Guess what? The “netroots” may or may not succeed in electing Ned Lamont to a Senate seat. But they knocked Holy Joe out of the Democratic primary.
Seen the stock market lately? Seen the unemployment rate? Too bad the President has run this economy into the ground. Better start those committee hearings as soon as possible to put a stop to economic growth. Why worry about real issues like Social Security and Terrorism when you can drag administration officials in front of kangaroo committees and endlessly pontificate?
A vote for Darcy is a vote for more global warming – from all the new hot air that will be generated in Wash DC.

I am fighting for a world where the leader of the free world is not such a moron that he can not spell or pronounce the word , “nuclear”.
I am certain that a nice, private-school-raised, Yale and Harvard-educated WASP boy from Connecticut can pronounce “nuclear” just fine.
He’s pretty smart, and figured out that if you wanted to hold office in Texas, or the United States, it’s better to talk bubba than WASP.
What it says about the electorate to believe that he’s a regular guy is another issue.
I used to live in Austin, I can speak fluent bubba as well. I’m not running for office, so I don’t have to portray myself as anything other than a snarky urban liberal.
New jobs? All those new minimum wage jobs have led to a LOSS of real wage earning power under Bush. And the stock market? It took the fool six years to get it back to the point where it already was under President Clinton.
This might sound a little lame, but except for the stock market and the price tage I see on the stuff I personally buy, I don’t give a whole lot of credence to all the other economic “statistics” published by a government which has been controlled by the Republican crooks for more than half a decade. If they can jig up elections, they can sure as hell “adjust” such figures to say whatever they want them to.
As to the gasoline prices (and interest rates), I expect to see them say low until about ten seconds after the last polling place closes.

At the Seattle Times/KUOW debate your opponent, Darcy Burner, asked a question regarding a statement you made at the May 20th Mainstream Republican Breakfast, “So when the leadership comes to me and says Dave we need you take a vote over here because we want to protect you and keep this majority, I do it.” She asked Reichert if he was lying then or is he lying now about being independent. He has never answered the question. The Seattle Times never bothered to verify that he said it by going and watching his speech at:
