Irrelevant, of course, because there is great heterogeneity in the size of states. Likewise, the % of popular vote is irrelevant. The fact is that Clinton got MORE popular votes than Bush in 92 and MORE popular votes than Dole in 96. Shrub LOST the popular vote in 2000 and won the popular vote in 2004.

The tax increase only affected the upper income brackets and helped balance the budget in the last three years of Clinton’s term – first time in over a generation. The tax increase was a courageous thing that put the country on firmer financial footing. The Republicans predicted the tax increase would tank the economy – they were wrong.
The assault weapons ban probably had more more of an effect on the 1994 losses in the House. A series of scandals also contributed.

Court officials were not immediately available for comment.

The U.S. executed scores of German and Japanese war criminals for mistreating and murdering POWs. Even the Nazis treated POWs better than, say, concentration camp inmates — for fear of reprisals against their own troops.
The whole point of denying POW status to so-called “terrorism suspects” was so the U.S. government could torture and kill them, and claim they were not protected by the Geneva Convention, international law, or U.S. laws.
The Bushies’ treatment of prisoners virtually guarantees reprisals against captured American soldiers in future wars. Our country has now stooped to the level of the world’s most brutal dictators, and it will come back to us in kind.
Just one more gargantuan and costly stupidity racked up by the most incompetent and idiotic administration in U.S. history.

Honestly, lets hope Senator Cantwell DOESN’T win by a landslide.
However satisfying it might be to rub such a victory in the face of the “cheap-labor conservatives”, in the end it’s inefficient. We want a narrow victory that preserves as much of Senator Cantwell’s campaign fund as possible while encouraging McGavick, the RNC and the rest to burn through a second and third mortgage chasing a pipe dream. That preserves our money for more important things and keeps their money away from races like Pensylvania and WA 8th.
It’s encouraging to see McGavick making large, early media buys. That will tend to create pressure later on to bring in funds to maintain momentum for McGavick – funds that might otherwise go to Reichert when he needs them.
To Anti-Goldy, MTR, RUFUS, Puddybud and the rest:
its very encouraging to see your depth of enthusiasm and interest in the local politics of an overwhelmingly progressive state. Keep up that focus and determination, and keep saving up your weekly Scratch money to send to campaigns like McGavick, Irons and Rossi.
