The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. I’ll be there, knocking back a couple of pints of Manny’s, and recording the latest edition of Podcasting Liberally… and who knows, perhaps Cienna will stop by so the two of us can exchange obscenity laden rants?
For those on the other side of the mountains, please join Jimmy at the Tri-Cities chapter of DL, every Tuesday from 5:30 onwards, Tuscany Lounge, 1515 George Washington Way, Richland.
The female Florida teacher who had sex with a 14-year-old male student is off the hook. If it had been a male teacher having sex with a 14-year-old female student, they’d have cut the guy’s you-know-what off and sent him to the slammer for life.
Double standard? I’d say yes.

Leftist Pinheaded KLOWNS===A group of semi-humans who believe in their ability to defy the laws of basic economics and create a haven for their Godless New Age Progressive bowel movement.
It ain’t gonna work KLOWNS.
Here is an assignment for tonight…..Affordable Housing!
Seattle & King Kounty have spent millions & millions studying & talking about this issue….as a result of their bullshitting, the problem has gotten worse by a magnitude of 3!!
Come back tomorrow with your PLAN!! Give us a strategy that includes how you are going to pay for it and a clear picture of the end product and ALL CONSEQUENCES of your Plan….good & bad.
I know it’s easier to sit around for the umpteenth time bashing Bush and blaming the R’s for everything that is wrong with your pathetic lives!
But give it a rest for a night and discuss something productive…a real life PROBLEM for many.
I’m not holding my breath….you idiots have NEVER shown the ability to solve a single problem…only create new ones!
Mr. Cynical,
Here’s a way to get affordable housing in Western Washinton: get Boeing, Microsoft, and all of the military bases to leave the state. That’ll drive down the price of housing!
And ruin the state’s economy!
Libertarian–
Don’t give these idiots any ideas!!
They are mainly a bunch of Bourgeois Bohemians…..

But pretend to be earthy hippies!!!
This is your big night to get liquored up enough to make sense of your past weeks posting endeavors. I’ve adapted another Brad Paisley favorite…this one is entitled “Alcohol”…to explain your delusionary state. I would like to entitle it “Alco-Blog”:
I can make HorsesAss pretty.
I can make you believe Goldy’s lies.
I can make scrawny KLOWNS pick a fight with somebody twice their size.
Well, I’ve been known to float some false rumors,
An’ I’ve been known to cause Hepatitis C.
Well, I can make you new gay friends, or get you fired from work.
And since the day I left Milwaukee,
Lynchburg an’ Bordeaux, France,
Been making the bars lots of big money,
An’ helpin’ white people dance.
I got you in trouble in Gay Bars,
But Blogging, now that is a ball.

I got blamed at Goldy’s coming out reception,
For his life-partnerss embarrassing speech.
And also for those naked pictures of you with jimmy the KLOWN!.
I’ve influenced Sims and McDimwit,
I helped Cornholey write like he did.
And I’ll bet you a drink or two, that I can make you put that lampshade on your head.
Cause since the day I left Milwaukee,
Lynchburg and Bordeaux, France,
I been making a fool out of folks just like you,
An’ helping white people dance.
I am medicine and I am poison,
I can help you up or make you fall.
You had some of the best times you’ll never remember with me:

Re: Comment #1…Tell that to Mary Kay LeTourneau.
Folks, sounds like Mr. Cynical has certainly handed us a valid and worthwhile issue to ruminate upon, absent anyone else coming up with a better topic. Mind you, “affordable” housing doesn’t mean just “cheap”. We could all just sit on our butts until the Chinese turn off the credit faucet and watch our little housing bubble go bye-bye. There’d be lots of places on the market for a lot less money than now, but of course that would be because nobody would have any money to buy ’em. Also there’s the possibility that things could go the other way and we’d have inflation up the kabongus and you couln’t buy a shack by the tracks with an 18-wheeler full of thousand-dollar bills–which would be a good thing because you wouldn’t be able to afford fuel for the truck.
So, yeah, why not brainstorm about some sort of Option Number Three. Can’t do much worse now, can we? Maybe instead of Habitat For Humanity, we could do Garages for Grungers, or Places for People in Parks, or Triplexes for Tree Huggers, or (fill in the blank_______________________)
ArtFart–
At least you are thinking about this issue…
I agree, affordable does not necessarily mean “cheap”.
I’ve always felt TAXES and the Cost of Regulation MUST relate to the ability of the average working person to pay.
That commodities like housing are directly affected by Taxes and Regulation.
Unfortunately, in many places, the Bureaucratic SLUDGE is a never-ending cesspool that must be fed.
It grows & grows…creating more Bureaucrats that must be fed.
Pretty soon something has to give.
The first sign is the Housing Affordability Index.
Bureaucrats ignore it like an ugly, bleeding mole on their face.
They pretend it’s not there….but it is, and it’s cancerous.
Bureaucrats could care less about affordable housing.
Elected officials could care less too.
The problem now is that the cost of lots is sooooooo high when the Bureaucrat 35% mark-up is added on, affordable housing is now only a “feel-good” discussion topic.PS
How about “Yurts for KLOWNS!!”
ArtFart–
I doubt any of your KLOWN pals will weigh in on this discussion. They have a combined Economic IQ of about 20 (excluding you, of course sir!).
LEFTIST PINHEADS are long on ideas….and short on understanding how to equitably pay for things. And reeeeaaal short on understanding unwanted consequences. These idiots would love to see the Homebuilders work for FREE and there association be eliminated. They fail to understand PROFIT and RETURN ON CAPITAL INVESTMENT.
ArfFart, I really do believe the lack of understanding basic economics is a serious problem. The affordable housing crunch is the “Tip of the Iceberg” and precursor to many other serious problems.
King Kounty and Washington State are trapped in a hopeless pile of costly and ineffective Bureaucratic Goo. One of the main reasons I supported Rossi was he would clean house in the out-of-control Department of Ecology….a total nightmare created by Gregoire!! Dept of Ecology has grabbed power on water and other issues they have no legal business grabbing.
They intimidate folks who challenge what THEY think our State should be.
As a consequence, you are moving toward a State few can afford to live in.
Mr. Cynical, why don’t you be honest and admit that you are a paid hack of the development industry? Go ahead and say it: You make a living spewing corporate propaganda.
While you’re at it, you might also admit that you know from internal polling that you can’t come right out and state your underlying policy agenda because Western Washington voters would never buy it. So you take on assumed names, and mask your agenda behind populist-sounding rhetoric.
Only one problem: You’ve been such an overbearing ass that it is rather difficult to take any of your arguments seriously. You come into Goldy’s house, piss all over the place, and then expect folks to listen to you.
Are you nuts, or what?
I sooo want Cienna Miller to show.
Oh wait… I’m a bit confused…
Too bad that cowardly piece of shit CynASScal won’t show his face in public. Bet he’d have a whole different approach. Spend all his time with his tail nicely tucked between his legs…his nose firmly planted right up the asshole of the meanest looking person there.
I love it when cowardly republicans spew garbage and then hide behind their computers.
Come on Cyn, show up. Are you afraid?
Before the election contest Mr Cynnical had some decent points to make. After the truth was finalized and Gregoire was proclaimed Governor he short cirucited. In all honesty, I feel sorry for the guy. He had something on the ball, and now it is only spittle.

No one pays me a penny to express my opinions here or anywhere. Period. I have seen what the LEFTIST agenda has done and is doing to this State. We have grossly underfunded State Pension Plans which is merely a deceitful way for the State to borrow money and mortgage our kids future.
If you think I am pleased with Bush and the R’s in D.C. on the Budget and deficit, you are sadly mistaken.
Government on all levels is fiscally out of control. It will all eventually come to a head. I can only do & say so much about National Politics. It’s a cesspool. I have more say-so on a State and local level….I do my best.
Why don’t YOU admit you are either a State worker or enviro-whacko determined to turn back the hands of time no matter how much damage you do to families and the economy???
I have already EARNED all the money I’ll ever need. I’m concerned about my kids and grandkids. Pinheads like you GreenThumb are clueless about economics. You just glue together a bunch of random pipedreams. Get a job loser!!!

But really, are you getting paid to do this? I can only find time in my busy day to stop by, read, maybe say hello in the comment thread and move on. You have a LIFE here. Are you on unenmployment, disability (my first guess), or welfare? Anyone with this much time on their hands to jack off in the comment threads like you has to either be being paid by someone, or on public assistance. Which leads me to my last question… if you are not getting paid to hang out here, am I subsidising you? Not sure how I feel about that…

HOUSING ECONOMICS ACCORDING TO MR. CYNICAL
1. Housing always sells for the highest price the market will bear.
2. If a developer can build a 3-bedroom house for $200,000 and the market will bear $300,000, the developer’s profit is $100,000.
3. If developer impact fees and the cost of regulation (e.g., energy-efficient insulation, windows, and appliances) add $20,000 to the cost of the $300,000 house, the house still costs $300,000 but the developer’s profit is only $80,000.
4. Therefore, developers always bitch about impact fees and regulations.

Hey Cynical, why don’t you explain to me again how developers lower their prices below market to make homes affordable for people of modest means!
I’m curious to know why a developer would charge only $280,000 when he could get $300,000 if the $20,000 of impact and regulatory costs went away.
Hey Cynical, tell me again how developers lower their prices to homebuyers if they can shift the costs of new roads and sewers to property taxpayers! I want to know how that works.
Mr. C. has a very interesting theory about housing economics. His theory is that housing prices are a function of what it costs to buy the land and build the house, instead of a function of what the market will bear. Apparently Washington regulates housing prices like utility rates — the state sets the going rate for housing, and the developer is only allowed to earn a reasonable ROI (“return on investment”). I want to know how to get in contact with the State Fair Housing Prices Commission because I want to work for them!!!
Hey Cynical, you also still haven’t told me how your washing machine changes $100 of L & I taxes into $100 of Rossi Slush Funds simply by feeding it through two rollers. I want to know what’s inside your washing machine that does that!
When a $100 bill goes in Mr. C’s washing machine, it’s L & I taxes, and when it comes out, it still looks like a $100 bill, but now it’s Rossi Slush Funds! I want to know how the machine does that.
These BIAW folks sure are smart! They not only know how to turn L & I taxes into Rossi Slush Funds, they even lower housing prices below market value when they don’t have to pay impact fees and regulatory costs!

Not to change the subject, or anything, but I see the murders of unarmed Iraqi civilians by U.S. Marines made the front page of both the P-I and Times today. Way to go, Bushies! Winning more hearts and minds in Iraq.
It probably doesn’t hurt anything (except the dead Iraqis), though. This war is already lost. The Bushies lost it when they decided to torture innocent Iraqi civilians. Though even if they hadn’t done that, they would have lost it anyway through sheer military incompetence.,
Needless to say, after the wingies lose the war, they will blame their losing the war on the journalists who caught them torturing and murdering innocent civilians.
In other news, Bush wants to further privatize government operations by selling your income tax return to commercial data miners and mailing list operators.
BUSH’S LATEST FIRE SALE OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY: YOUR TAX RETURN
From the front page of today’s Seattle Times:
“Rule change could allow sale of your tax return
“By Jeff Gelles
“Knight Ridder Newspapers
“PHILADELPHIA — The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is quietly moving to loosen the once-inviolable privacy of federal income-tax returns. If it succeeds, accountants and other tax-return preparers, … will be able to sell information from individual returns — or even entire returns — to marketers and data brokers.
“The possible change is raising alarm among consumer and privacy-rights advocates. It was included in a set of proposed rules that the Treasury Department and the IRS published in the Dec. 8 Federal Register, where the official notice labeled them ‘not a significant regulatory action.’
“IRS officials portray the proposed changes as house-cleaning measures needed to update outmoded regulations that were adopted before the IRS began accepting returns electronically. …
“Critics call the proposed changes a dangerous new breach in personal and financial privacy. …
“Criticism of the proposal also came from Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. In a letter last Tuesday to IRS Commissioner Mark Everson, Obama warned that … tax information could be resold … increasing consumers’ vulnerability to identity theft and other risks.
“‘There is no more sensitive information than a taxpayer’s return, and the IRS’s proposal to allow these returns to be sold to third-party marketers and database brokers is deeply troubling,’ Obama wrote. … ”

Don’t worry folks, the IRS assures us that some 17-year-old computer hacker in Moscow or Nigeria getting your tax return is nothing to worry about, because this is just a “housekeeping” thing and your privacy is “outmoded.” Besides, Bush needs the money he’ll get from selling your tax return to commercial data companies to help pay for more millionaire tax cuts. Also, his dad owns stock in those companies, so you’re helping Bush to grow his inheritance, too!
Well come on, people, you didn’t really think YOUR TAX RETURN would stay private under the Bush regime, did you??? After all, these are the same folks who brought you warrantless wiretapping, FBI agents attending Drinking Liberally, and the surveillance helicopters that fly over my burrow every night.
The militia loons probably will use this as another excuse to not file tax returns. They’ll say, “See? We told you! If you file a tax return, the government will give your name, address, social security number, how much you make, where you work, and bank account numbers to the Russkies! Well, you don’t have to file a tax return, because the Sixteenth Amendment was never ratified no matter what they say!”*
(* “Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Go directly to jail.”)
I’d hate to see Bush prove the militia loons right, but he’s sure trying to.

GREGOIRE REPEALS $5 DAY-USE FEE AT STATE PARKS

No, it was considerably better then — they knew which country the war was in. What I mean is, they didn’t go looking for the Viet Cong by invading Mozambique.
Roger was you in that Army helicopter that spotted what was going on down on the ground? Roger it is easy to be an armchair General, but there is a different view if you were in the mist of the battle.
On March 16, 1968, Chief Warrant Officer Thompson and his two crewmen were flying on a reconnaissance mission over the South Vietnamese village of My Lai when they spotted the bodies of men, women and children strewn over the landscape.
Mr. Thompson landed twice in an effort to determine what was happening, finally coming to the realization that a massacre was taking place. The second time, he touched down near a bunker in which a group of about 10 civilians were being menaced by American troops. Using hand signals, Mr. Thompson persuaded the Vietnamese to come out while ordering his gunner and his crew chief to shoot any American soldiers who opened fire on the civilians. None did.
Mr. Thompson radioed for a helicopter gunship to evacuate the group, and then his crew chief, Glenn Andreotta, pulled a boy from a nearby irrigation ditch, and their helicopter flew him to safety.

WASHINGTON, March 29, 2005 – Sgt. First Class Paul R. Smith, killed nearly two years ago defending his vastly outnumbered Army unit in a fierce battle with elite Iraqi troops for control of Baghdad’s airport, will receive the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award, administration officials said Tuesday.
No soldier who served in Afghanistan or Iraq after the Sept. 11 attacks has yet received the medal. The last conflict to produce a Medal of Honor recipient was in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993; two soldiers were awarded the medal posthumously for actions there, later depicted in the movie “Black Hawk Down.”
Sergeant Smith led a defense of a compound next to the airport against a much larger force of Special Republican Guard troops, manning a heavy machine gun, repeatedly firing and reloading three times before he was mortally wounded. Fellow soldiers said his actions killed 20 to 50 Iraqis, allowed wounded American soldiers to be evacuated, and saved an aid station and perhaps 100 lives.
Sergeant Smith’s “extraordinary heroism and uncommon valor without regard to his own life in order to save others are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service,” a draft of the medal citation says.
President Bush will present the award to Sergeant Smith’s widow and children at a White House ceremony on Monday, the second anniversary of the airport battle and the soldier’s death.

Marinated Hare Prepared Following the Method of the Hunters of Cardoso, or Lepre Marinata all’uso dei cacciatori del Cardoso: Cardoso is a town in the overlooking Versilia, the Tuscan coastal plain north of Pisa, while the recipe is drawn from a book by Mariù Salvatori de Zuliani. It calls for hare, but will also work well with other furred game that requires marinating to draw out the gaminess, for example wild boar, or venison.

Rabbit Spiedini, or Spiedini di Coniglio: Rabbit is a dry meat, and therefore requires help if it is to emerge from the grill without having become tough and chewy. And it does so very well in this recipe from the Abruzzo. To serve 6:
INGREDIENTS:
• A rabbit weighing about 3 pounds (1.5 k), dressed, skinned, beheaded, and chopped into pieces
• For the Marinade:
• Dry white wine
• 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
• Salt and pepper
• For the Cooking:
• Thin slices of cured lard or pancetta
• Bay leaves
• Mild sausage, cut into rounds
• Skewers
“When you cut right through it, right-wing ideology is just ‘dime-store economics’ – intended to dress their ideology up and make it look respectable. You don’t really need to know much about economics to understand it. They certainly don’t. It all gets down to two simple words.
“‘Cheap labor’. That’s their whole philosophy in a nutshell – … a short and pithy ‘catch phrase’ that describes them perfectly. You’ve heard of ‘big-government liberals’. Well they’re ‘cheap-labor conservatives’.
“‘Cheap-labor conservative’ is a moniker they will never shake, and never live down. Because it’s exactly what they are. You see, cheap-labor conservatives are defenders of corporate America – whose fortunes depend on labor.
“The larger the labor supply, the cheaper it is. The more desperately you need a job, the cheaper you’ll work …. If you are a wealthy elite – or a ‘wannabe’ like most dittoheads – your wealth, power and privilege is enhanced by a labor pool, forced to work cheap.”

Choosing the Right Cage for Your House Rabbit
Pet rabbits can be quite readily kept in cages in the home, with some freedom to run free in the house (after thoroughly rabbit-proofing, of course). Rabbits take fairly well to litter training so many people will let their bunnies run free in the home for at least part of the day. Even if your rabbit is thoroughly toilet trained and your house thoroughly rabbit proofed, a cage will act as a safe haven or nest, where the rabbit can retreat to rest.
There are a lot of cages sold for rabbits that aren’t really ideal rabbit homes, though. Some are just too small, and many have wire floors, which may make cleaning easier but doesn’t provide much comfort to the bunny
Come to think of it, Stefan, why won’t you share the profits from your lawsuit against King County with the generous donors to your “legal action fund” who paid for your lawsuit? Is it because you’re a greedy prick, or because you can’t hold a job and need the money? Maybe both.

MAILBAG ITEMS
Here’s a couple items from the Seattle Times’ letters to the editor (Tuesday, March 21).
From Thomas Beaudin of Mill Creek:
“The disruptive, suicidal terrorist acts of a very, very small minority of Middle Easterners should not overshadow the astounding progress being made by the vast majority of the Iraqi people, thanks to American’s intervention. Saddam will be executed soon, our boys will be coming home soon, and mllions of innocents will experience liberty for the first time in centuries.”

Thomas, you oughta go on Jay Leno — you’re funny!
From Robert Hoyden of Renton:
“Let me get this straight: First President George Bush puts our Marines in that hell on Earth known as iraq against an enemy dressed like civilians and hiding behind children and other innocents. Then in a nightmarish firefight, several innocents die under these horrific conditions and now our Marines are being investigated for unlawful killings? This is truly unbelievable. Little wonder military enlistments are down. Join the Marines, go to war, and your president won’t stand behind ou. I can imagine the morale of our cherished trooops is at rock-bottom. I’m ashamed I voted for George Bush twice.”
Roger Rabbit’s reply:
Hell yeah, Robert, you SHOULD be ashamed you voted for George Bush twice.
The killings are being investigated because the evidence indicates THERE WAS NO FIREFIGHT. Instead, it appears the Marines, angry at losing one of their men to a roadside bomb, forced entry into two nearby Iraqi homes and shot old people and children as young as 3 years old in their nightgowns, at point-blank range, splattering the walls and ceilings with blood and human tissue. A videotape of the scene shows NO bullet holes in the outside walls of these homes, but lots of bullet and shrapnel holes in the inside walls.
According to witnesses, a 5-year-old was shot in the chest, a 4-year-old was shot in the chest and stomach, and a 3-year-old was shot in the chest, all at point-blank range, INSIDE THEIR OWN HOME. Hey Robert, is this what you call a “nightmarish firefight?”
Robert, do yourself and our country a favor — quit voting. You’re too stupid to be a voter.
Finally, Bert Sacks of Seattle wrote to the Times:
” … the Lancet medical journal’s … most significant finding was that … four out of every five civilian deaths in Iraq were caused by ‘aerial weaponry.’ The insurgents do not have aerial weaponry. … And half of these deaths are children.”
Hey Thomas — tell us again about the “astounding progress” being made in Iraq!!! You should quit voting, too. You’re too stupid to vote.
OK, did everyone catch those statistics from Lancet medical journal?
FOUR OUT OF EVERY FIVE CIVILIAN DEATHS IN IRAQ WERE CAUSED BY AERIAL WEAPONRY, AND HALF OF THESE DEATHS ARE CHILDREN.
When you wingnuts talk about “our” war in Iraq, please say “your” war in Iraq and leave us liberals out of it, because this is not America’s war, it’s the right wing’s war.
This is your show, and you own it! The blood of innocents is on YOUR hands. Iraq is a Republican war, not an American war. It will go into the history books with the “Made in GOP” label on it.
Let’s review: On November 19, 2005, U.S. Marines shot a 5-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 3-year-old in their nightgowns at point-blank-range in their own homes. They also also shot old people, and a 40-year-old woman recovering from bladder surgery in her bed.
And we have an indignant local Republican writing a letter to the local newspaper expressing outrage that anyone is investigating this incident for possible criminal prosecution of the Marines.
Yeah, you Republicans ought to be ashamed of yourselves, but most of you are too stupid to know any better. You’re all going to Hell, because you’re evil people who have lived evil lives on this earth. And when you get there, you won’t have a clue why it’s so fucking hot and the air conditioner isn’t working.
Here’s a special greeting from one of Roger Rabbit’s friends to Thomas of Mill Creek and Robert of Renton: http://www.vannercentral.com/i....._11_03.jpg

Richard Clarke, who served as President Bush’s chief of counterterrorism, has claimed sole responsibility for approving flights of Saudi Arabian citizens, including members of Osama bin Laden’s family, from the United States immediately after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
In an interview with The Hill yesterday, Clarke said, “I take responsibility for it. I don’t think it was a mistake, and I’d do it again.”
Most of the 26 passengers aboard one flight, which departed from the United States on Sept. 20, 2001, were relatives of Osama bin Laden, whom intelligence officials blamed for the attacks almost immediately after they happened.
Clarke’s claim of responsibility is likely to put an end to a brewing political controversy on Capitol Hill over who approved the controversial flights of members of the Saudi elite at a time when the administration was preparing to detain dozens of Muslim-Americans and people with Muslim backgrounds as material witnesses to the attacks.”

My point is that there’s a great descrepancy between the punishment handed down to men versus the punishment handed down to women when it comes to having sex with kids. If you can’t see this, you must be living in a different universe. Men tend to get heavy jail time. (Except for in Vermont, where they’re scolded most severely and have to go without TV for a week!) Women tend to get a very light sentence or probation for sex crimes against kids.

I was under the impression you were saying Bush used Air Force planes (our planes) to fly these folk over to Saudi. Shoot, these people are rich enough to have a fleet of airliners and pilots at their disposal. They were leaving just like the Japanese diplomats left after December 7, 1941. You’re one of my favorite fucking assholes to poke fun at in this blog. You provide good entertainment at no cost.
Hay duke: Rabbit Pellet posted 12 in a row (a nominally low value for him) Where is your hue and cry? Oh he’s a librul so he gets a pass!
The problem with people like RevMan is their frame of reference. When confronted by other libruls who say other things they are rejected out of hand like nwgal who posted some interesting observations two weeks ago. Fruitcakes like Tree Frog Farmer told her to shut up. Idiots like drivel to her to go away. The librul mindset is imploding. When they can’t have a decent conversation amongst themselves discussing the voting record of Maria CantVoteWell and the public discourse denigrates to name calling you know the liberal policies are still in disarray!
Sin icle = stuge for the flim flam men
The proposal to eliminate impact fees on new houses has NOTHING to do with lowering the cast of a home and EVERYTHING to do with making it easier for the new home builders to compete with the existing home resale market.
And as SinFlam knows all too well, the resale of an existing home does not have an effect on infrastructure while new homes have a real and direct effect. And you must think people are really stupid if you think we buy for a moment that with the fees removed the price would go down. Not on your life dipshit.
This is exactly the kind of capitalist meets corruption policy we could have expected if the flinstones dog had been elected gov. We are all so much better off without that sleezeball.

There’s more, but that should give you an idea. Of course, if your only metric for affordable housing is “make sure BIAW members make more money” then perhaps the “solutions” might look different.
