The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. Join me for some hoppy ale and hopped up conversation.
No special guests are scheduled for tonight, but it wouldn’t surprise me if a couple of candidates dropped by for a round or two.
So i am curious, Ron Simms, one of your previous drinking liberally buddies, appeared to have been called on cronyism with the Southwest Airlines/Boeing Field negotiation.
Pretty intersting timing on this, huh?
David Irons calls him on being a shady character, the story hits the press and suddenly, Ronnie pulls his support.
call conservatives what you want, but at least when someone buys one of them, they stick with the original deal.
Hey Goldy,
What do you guys think of term limits for US representatives and senators? I think it would be good for the country to have a little more diversity in the House and Senate.
How many blacks will be there? Drinking while blacks in New Orleans have nothing? Driving and burning gas? Hmmmmmm……..
Lib –
“…What do you guys think of term limits for US representatives and senators…”
Goldy isn’t the person to ask. Ask George Nethercut.
As I recall, term limits for federal office are unconstitutional. Except, of course, for president … an amendment was written to do that.
House and Senate diversity could be easily achieved by defeating a whole bunch of those all-in-lockstep wingnuts currently running the US into the ground.
Term limits are GREAT!
N in Seatle @ 4:
Yep, you’re right: we’d have to amend the constitution to have term limits. It might be nice to see other folks get elected rather than the same old bunch of politicians.
Term limits are great from my perspective; nothing like having a pliable newbie to flamboozle! Experienced legislators that know their stuff give me the heebie jeebies.
Lobbyist @ 7:
For whom do you lobby?
Gee, Libertarian, I’m surprised you accept the validity of the Constitution. That’s awfully pro-government of you.
N in Seattle @ 9:
Yeah, I kinda like the Constituttion. I especially like the first 10 Amendments, particularly as they relate to individual rights.
I also believe in individual responsibility, too, and I think Thomas Jefferson would agree with me about being responsible for one’s actions. I think Jefferson was the first Libertarian.
prr@1–
Don Ron Sims King is about as clever and unobvious as the perverbial elephant in the living room!!!
To go from wowing the LEFTIST PINHEAD DL crowd with his strong support and then pulling it when his supporters and drinking buddies start squawking shows us Sims loves his job…not standing up for his beliefs.
Did I tell you:
If Sims Wins====Logan keeps his job.
If Sims Loses===Logan gets fired.
If Irons wins===Logan gets fired.
Need to keep remiding y’all of that because between the Erection Dept., SWA debacle and Critical Areas Ordinance….Sims has a lot of negatives. Sims may think his announcement today eliminates a negative….but it doesn’t..it actually creates another.
DON RON SIMS KING IS A FLIPFLOPPER!!! He came out for SWA before he came out against SWA. Perhaps after Sims awoke from his DL hangover after drinking cheap HORSEPISS Wine, his alleged brain shifted into another gear???
I just love seeig Sims on the defensive. Hopefully Irons will keep Sims on the defensive the entire campaign!!!
Lib @ 10 Absolutely! What we need is a Bill of Responsibilities. For instance:
Article 2 of the Bill of Rights: A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Article 2 of the Bill of Responsiblities: All persons who keep and bear arms are responsible for the use of those arms, and for keeping them safe from misuse by criminals, and from children.
Any other ideas of what could be included?
Re the Bill of Rights:
Yeah, I’m kinda partial to them myself. That’s why I’m a card-carrying member. Too bad the current feederal administration seems to think that, and certainly does act as if, the BoR contains just half of one amendment.
Jefferson certainly had some sharp critiques of government, at least when he wasn’t running one. I don’t know that I’d go so far as to say “libertarian” without adding “civil” in front of it, but TJ is notorious for having at various times advocated policies and ideas supportable by just about anyone. Just like the Bible, you can pick out pieces of Jefferson to bolster every position on every issue.
N in Seattle-4 ‘..defeating a whole bunch of those all-in-lockstep wingnuts ..’
Hello….that finally happened in 1994.
George Nethercutt – “term limited” by his own hubris.
The are religous zealots out there who lay awake at night worrying that someone is actually having a beer and enjoying life for a while. There are left wing nut cases out there whose goal is to save the world using everyone’s resources to do so.
So, for everone drinking ale tonight with Goldy, drink heartily and forget about all this political crap for a while!
It’s everyone’s world, so it’s in everyone’s best interests that it be maintained. With interests come responsibilities.
Can you get any of those $3000 signs to point people to Montlake?
Reply to 6
After 5 years of government run by incompetent amateurs, I’d like to have the career politicians back.
@17
Where were you when WSDOT put out the bids? Surely you could have sold the taxpayers those signs for less than $3000 apiece and still made a profit? Do you even know the material specifications for those signs? Betcha ya don’t.
If only WSDOT had hired a Republican contractor to do it, betcha the taxpayers could’ve got those signs for $25,000 apiece.
Roger Rabbit appears at DL extremely rarely, and never announces his appearances in advance due to traffic problems caused by the crush of admiring fans, papparazzi, and process servers.
No more Strom Thurmonds! No more Robert Byrds!
Throw the bums out! They’re ALL corrupt, and they’re ALL incompetent!
But that’s just my opinion…
I hope ya’ll can cover the Greg Nickel’s campaign violations..
Corruption in Seattle….the Collucios, Rosellini, Pageler/Wills, now Nickels.
22
Wrongagain, I’d rather have our corrupt politicians than your corrupt politicians — they’re a damn sight cheaper for us taxpayers.
prr @1,
I just posted on the SWA deal gone bust, and you can read my analysis there. Hatley was hired primarily to lobby the council, not the executive, and Sims knew the proposal was most likely dead going into the editorial board meeting.
So insinuate away if it makes you feel better, but the Hatley amounts to a big pile of nothing.
Libertarian @2,
Like George Nethercutt, I oppose term limits. Unlike Nethercutt, I’m being honest about it.
I think the founding fathers were wise in not instituting term limits.
I repeat my weekly plea… All you HAs please set an example for us knuckle draggers and ride a metro bus to DL tonight.
It will show the oil company’s who’s boss.
It will slow down global warming.
It will reduce traffic.
You can drink all you want and not worry about a DUI
It will give you the opportunity to interact with others that you might not normally get a chance to meet.
Let me know how it goes.
28. Mark, How can these “limo libs” drink when blacks in New Orleans have nothing? Do Democrats only need blacks for their votes? Are black Democrat “vote slaves”?
mtr; and that other guy on the bus wouldn’t feel as lonely.
How can you Democrats drink when we finally found the cause for earthquakes and hurricanes!! Another “progressive” has found the evil Bush responsible!!! Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez believes natural disasters around the globe are rooted in capitalism.
As reported by Agence France-Presse, Chavez, in a radio and TV interview, said the recent earthquakes in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, and the mudslides in Mexico and Guatemala were nature’s answer to a “world global capitalist model” that has left the world “dangerously off balance.” [Democrats: progressive idiots!]
It’ll be a cold day in Hades before either MTR or Wrong Again ever have the cojones to show up for DL — whether by plane, train, automobile, or sitting on a horse’s rump.
25
Well that and you need someone to keep your black base in line. Dont want dem wondering too far from da plantation ya na.
Hey DOOFUS,
Google Dr. Michael Aquino. You’ll love him. He’s a staunch Republican and people like him are a very supportive part of your base.
What has Ron Sims done for the hood lately?
OH, YA! He’s running a train right thru it.
It’s time for Ronny to go.
Maybe Gary Locke can get him a job as a paralegal. oh, better yet, maybe crissy can create a new dept for Ronny, WA State Dept of blackberry removal. permit office open 2nd Wednesday of the month only.
what a joke they all are.
I have been to the Montlake Ale House several months ago with several friends to observe you LEFTIST PINHEADS. It wasn’t a very big turnout…but you appeared to all be having a good time with your blood pressuring boiling and angry venom spewing about Bush….growing the more you drank!
Would I go back again?? Probably not. I have other things more exciting to do like play Cribbage or practice putting on the carpet.
But it was interesting…most of you LEFTIST PINHEADS had at least some human features.
By the way, who was the asshole with the wirerim glasses?
Remember LEFTIST PINHEADS….”you aren’t paranoid when we are really out to get you!”
Attention:
Stefan @ SP uncovered a ballot that says it is a GREEN CARD Voter.
What in the hell is that??
“Green Card refers to the official card issued by the US government to lawful permanent residents (immigrants) as evidence of their authorization to live and work in the United States. It is officially called Form I-551, the Permanent Resident Card (formerly known as the Alien Registration Receipt Card). The Green Card represents security to its holder. It instantly communicates to law enforcement officials and US employers the right to permanently live and work in the United States.”
How does a Green Card qualify someone for the Citizen Status required to vote???
Inquiring minds would like to know!!
It happened in KingCo, so I’m sure there is a logical excuse…..err…logical reason.
re 11: How about corporate officers who work for “limited liability” corporations? Should they take personal responsibility for the damaging actions they create or should we continue the fairy tale fiction that only the “personhood” of the corporation is responsible? What a weak dodge of personal responsibility that is! Maybe that’s the only change we need with corporations. Make corporate officers “personally responsible” for their corporate actions.
re 12: Mr. Cynical is part of the lockstep PRAYER BREAKFAST MAFIA that has this country in such dire straits. He doesn’t thik, he just reacts, while viewing all life through his PRAYER BREAKFAST MAFIA twisted lenses and vision narrowing blinders.
angry venom spewing about Bush
What’s there to like? He’s doing to this country economically what LBJ did the difference being is that we still had a manufacturing base back then to keep us suspended above a black hole.
re 28: Electric street cars would show the oil companies whose boss— except GM bought them all up in the 1920’s and substituted gas burning buses that no one wants to ride in and the whole misbegotten wealth scheme has culminated in the mess we’re in today. When money talks, greedheads listen.
Hey kids — it’s time to play your favorite game, “Sucky Politics!”
As many of you know, Stefan Sharansky, who runs the Sucky Politics blog, thinks Roger Rabbit is Dean Logan blogging on a King County computer. Stefan, as always, is full of shit! I’m not Dean Logan, nor am I posting on HA with a government-owned computer. But it’s useless to try to reason with Stefan. He’s impervious to all known facts. So I play along with the gag.
Since I’m Dean Logan, and Stefan is a King County poll worker, I’m Stefan’s supervisor. And believe me, this lazy and insubordinate shithead needs a LOT of supervising!!
Take, for example, Stefan’s silly post quoted by Mr. Cynical @34 above regarding a so-called “Green Card Voter.” First of all, why is Stefan still beating on the dead horse of the Nov. 2004 election? This was litigated at an expense of $4 million, with Rossi represented by the finest D.C. and Seattle corporate lawyers money can buy, and the net result was their handpicked Republican judge in their handpicked Republican county deducted 4 fraudulent votes from Rossi’s total, increasing Gregoire’s victory margin from 129 to 133. AND ROSSI DIDN’T EVEN APPEAL! Many intelligent and reasonable people would conclude that at this point all the issues and debating points over that election have been laid to rest, and to keep beating on it is evidence of MENTAL ILLNESS but what the fuck do you expect from an idiot who can’t even spell his own name. (The correct spelling is “Sharansky” but he spells it “Sharkansky” which leads me wonder if he’s a fugitive from justice in some jurisdiction or other.)
Hey idiots — both of you — meaning Stefan and Cynical — that was a fucking PROVISIONAL VOTE! Anybody is entitled to cast a provisonal ballot — that’s what federal and state law requires! Then it’s up to elections officials — not partisan pollworkers — to determine whether the voter is qualified to vote and the vote should be counted. We hire professionals, not two-day-a-year temps with only 3 hours of training, to make such decisions.
But that’s not good enough for the Idiot Twins, nosireebob! Stefan says it’s “just plain dumb” that Dean’s — ahem, my — pollworker training teachers pollworkers not to deny anyone the right to vote. He says, “You are justified in denying the opportunity to vote to someone who volunteers to you that they don’t have the right to vote. Like when they show you an identification card that proves they are not a United States citizen.”
WRONG!!! May I remind you, Stefan, that your job is to follow the instructions and procedures given to you as a pollworker, NOT tell the boss how to do HIS job!!! If you’re going to start breaking laws and disregarding instructions, then King County Elections doesn’t need your services. We need pollworkers, but we DON’T need insubordinate pollworkers!!! Listen up, Stefan. Either get with the program, or hit the road!!!
I really owe you two idiots no explanation, but so you won’t mislead the public (such of it as is stupid enough to read your sucky blog), using a green card for ID is NOT proof the person is unqualified to vote. How do you know this voter didn’t become a naturalized citizen prior to the election? State election rules allow government-issued ID to be used as ID for voting purposes, and a Green Card is a government-issued ID. Did the pollworker who wrote that comment investigate (or even bother to ask) whether the voter is a citizen entitled to vote? Betcha dollars for donuts s/he didn’t — s/he just ASSUMED the voter was a non-citizen. Do you know what happens when you ASSUME things? You make an ASS of U and ME, that’s what!!! This is why King County hired Dean — ahem, me — to run elections, not you Stefan! Because you’re too fucking stupid to spell your own name correctly, let alone run elections!!!
Just follow the goddam instructions and leave the hard decisions for the professionals. Or seek employment somewhere else.
Stefan not only wants to tell Logan — er, me — how to do his — um, my — job but also aims to tell Judge Michael Spearman how to do HIS job even though Stefan doesn’t know a fucking thing about criminal law and procedure! Stefan is Washington’s No. 2 dilettante blowhard, after the inimitable Tim Eyman, and is trying harder because he wants to be Washington’s No. 1 dilletante blowhard.
Hey Lucy – Where does electricity come from? Hint: It doesn’t come from the wires.
Mark The Redneck-39 ‘Hint: It doesn’t come from the wires.’
Shhh. You are giving away the secrets. Now all will have to experience the joy in watching the lib celebrities driving their electric cars in CA, while their power is generated using old coal-fired plants in the mid-west. They are effectively dumping more CO2 into the atmosphere than a new gas-powered SUV.
Roger
a) earring man was no republican
b) Again, why would you show a green card if you were a citizen?
c) How come the elections folks have a lower standard for ID than my bank, the border crossing, the bar i go to, best buy when they wanna make sure my visa card is mine…
You guys are girly men on this; lets require your Voter ID card, and if you don’t have it, then only passport, or valid drivers license (and my fear is the drivers thing might still let the aliens through)
yearight – a solar wave is hitting CA and will spread to the rest of the desert southwest. The desert southwest will be a solar Saudi Arabia. This will help free up the northwest’s hydro.
Wind in CO is cheaper than natural-gas fired ccgt and increasingly competitive against increasingly price-volatile coal. If you ask to be supplied with wind power in CO – you get a cheaper bill.
Rog@42–
Calm down BunMan! If you stick your ears too far over the edge you are going to either fall off…..or get that horrible case of recurring, unsightly jock itch that plagues you.
Sure the Green Card Dude voted a Provisional Ballot….but the envelope was empty meaning the ballot was counted.
Can you find anything Rog that permits Green Card holders to vote?? That is the issue.
All your hollering and squealing isn’t going to mask the fundamental question. Who is this guy and why was his ballot counted. If there is a legitimate reason, like you Rog, I’M ALL EARS!
A great drinking subject!! Maxine Waters will be a movie star!! Famed US filmmaker Spike Lee is to produce and direct a new documentary about the deadly aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in flood-stricken New Orleans, the entertainment industry press announced overnight. /break/ is to make When the Levee Broke for the US HBO cable television channel, the network told Daily Variety.
Headless Lucy writes:re 28: Electric street cars would show the oil companies whose boss— except GM bought them all up in the 1920’s and substituted gas burning buses that no one wants to ride in and the whole misbegotten wealth scheme has culminated in the mess we’re in today. [Er…….Headless Lucy, how do we produce the power to run the street cars? [nuclear? Fossil Fuels? Your hot air?]
44.Mark…….My respects. You beat me to the punch. JCH
45.Yearight…..My respects. Headless Lucy is a typical “govment” Democrat loon nutcase. I call her Maxine Waters.
@46
Ladies and gentlemen, Wrongagain now weighs in with the Two Idiots, to entertain us with their Three Stooges Act!! To wit:
“why would you show a green card if you were a citizen”
Because you don’t have a driver’s license?
Because you don’t have any other ID?
Because you feel like it?
Who knows? Who cares?
@48
Can you find something that says Green Card holders can’t vote?
You know why I’m itching? Because you showed up incognito at DL and gave me your fucking fleas!!!
Roger Rabbit-42 ‘Did the pollworker who wrote that comment investigate (or even bother to ask) whether the voter is a citizen entitled to vote? Betcha dollars for donuts s/he didn’t – s/he just ASSUMED the voter was a non-citizen.’
Wasn’t the vote counted? So, despite no reasonably way to assume the voter is a citizen, count the vote anyway?
Roger Rabbit-49 ‘Who knows? Who cares?’
..if the voter is actually a citizen? Plenty of other voters, that’s who.
Solution: Let’s work together to make voter fraud a capital offense. [Can you see the Upper East Side New Yawkers who voted GORE 04 in NY as well as FL hanging from a tree? I figure killing a few thousand Democrat cheaters might solve the illegal voting problem quickly.]
@55
How the hell do you know whether the vote was counted?
If it was counted, how the hell do you know whether King County had proof of the voter’s citizenship?
The point is, flashing a Green Card at a poll worker to get a provisional ballot doesn’t prove a thing. Except it proves you don’t know a fucking thing about the provisional voting rules.
@56
You miss the point entirely. This is the same Stefan Sharansky who claimed massive voting fraud occurred in the Nov. 2004 election. After spending $2 million on lawyers and two weeks in trial the only thing his GOP buddies could prove is that 4 of Dino Rossi’s votes were invalid.
Ever hear the story of the boy who cried wolf?
34
Who in the hell is that!!!! You bring that name up to defend the fact that you donks elected a KKK racist to the senate?
Roger
Ever heard the phrase “whistling past the graveyard”? If the Seattle press publicizes Stefan’s findings and digs deeper the Democratic hold on this state will be closer to its end.
[Black Democrats do such a great job of “govning” that they all got bonus checks!!] Goldy will drink to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The D.C. government employees tasked with providing care to the city’s poor have taken home nearly half of the more than $1 million in bonus money awarded by the District during the first half of fiscal 2005. Nearly 400 employees in the D.C. Department of Human Services (DHS) received approximately $479,000 in extra money in their paychecks from Oct. 1, 2004, to March 31, 2005, according to D.C. Office of Personnel records.
Roger Rabbit-58 ‘How the hell do you know whether the vote was counted?
If it was counted, how the hell do you know whether King County had proof of the voter’s citizenship?’
Your replies show the basic flaw in the election system. There is so much benefit of the doubt given, and it is so very difficult to determine legal voting status that it is impossible to know how much fraud there is.
I am not sure how another voter verifies the citizenship of another. Do you?
Could you imagine how well the IRS system would work using a true honor system? If people can cheat many will.
Can you imagine if the same screen was used by IRS as by KCRE?
KCRE? vote if you tell us you are legit
IRS? taxes you pay are sufficient, if you say they are…
