    If you really want a Democrat Senate, there are things you can do to make that happen. Two races in Georgia won’t be decided until January 5th runoffs. So please do this:

    1. Send the Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock campaigns as much money as you can.

    2. Sign up with groups like Swing Left and Turnout2020 to make calls asking Democrats to vote. And start early, don’t wait for the last few days.

    3. Give money to other groups that are helping get out the vote and protect voters like the NAACP and the ACLU.

    Turnout spikes produce over performance on both sides. Trump achieved a 22% increase in total votes in King County, against a 16% increase in turnout. Still lost. Because he didn’t convince a single Clinton voter to vote for him in 2020. He just got 48,000 additional arm fishermen to turn out in a county where nobody gave a shit.

    And chances are Bustos and her brain trust did not convince a single Trump voter to cross the ballot either. These folks are guilty of professional malpractice.

    Have owned Pfizer since the mid-2000s and it has never failed to disappoint me. For a huge company like Pfizer, nothing much moves the stock. At Monday’s open there was a nice gain, but it’s now up only 6% since the news was announced.

    When the stock is low it’s worth selling naked puts, because they’ll probably expire worthless. When the stock is higher it’s worth selling covered calls, because they’ll probably expire worthless and if the shares are called away you don’t mind. Dividend’s a bit below 4% and “safe” options can add another 5-6%. It’s not something I’d do if I were Roger Dumbfuck Rabbit and was increasingly desperate for that game-winning home run to compensate for all the times he’s been picked off of first base. But it’s stable income with some, if limited, growth potential. The world needs line-drive singles hitters, too.

    Face the plain fact that it was Republicans who couldn’t accept Trump’s 2016 win. Democrats did none of it. They chaired nothing, controlled no agencies, had no influence. It was all Republicans. On some level they understood the peril and the risk. So they did the bare minimum. But they did it all.

    And of course it wasn’t enough. Republicans can never get hard, and always blow early. They left their best game in the locker room toilet stall. Trump survived, thrived, and took the party down.

    I found this interesting. I live in WA state district 10, which is Island, Skagit, and north part of Snohomish Counties.

    In the races for state house and senate seats in this district, on election night each race was led by the Democrat candidate.

    Now, in the state senate race, the Republican has 50.7%, the Democrat 49.2%.

    In the house race for one position, the Republican has 50.2%, the Democrat 49.6%.

    In the other house race, the Democrat has 50.55%, the Republican 49.35%.

    There are a few thousand votes left to count.

    I was just struck by how close each of these races is. In particular, the Democrat who will likely lose the senate race, Helen Price Johnson, is absolutely beloved by the residents on the south end of Whidbey Island for all the things she has done over the years for her constituents. People are taking it very hard.

    This is Trump’s doing. It’s very surprising to me how many Trump/Pence flags there are on the south end of the island. I’ve been on the island at least part-time for more than 20 years and I have never seen Republicans identify publicly the way they did this year.

    Trump had serious coattails, even if he doesn’t get to wear the suit.

    Politico dispatched their head politics correspondent to track a single Michigan Congressional Democrat at the start of the year. They chose a Trump district that had been flipped by a “moderate” female Democrat. Lots of hours of interviews with the candidate, narrative exposition of the horse race, and then the final outcome and “analysis”.

    This is a pattern that was pre-ordained back in 2017 when corporate media and deeply humiliated conservatives decided to explain Trump as a “failure” of Democrats. It’s a style of journalistic post hoc analysis that is intended to be comforting to the target audience of readers, listeners, viewers, etc. We’ll be seeing lots of it in the months ahead, with or without the voter file data.

    In the case of MI-8, the incumbent winner with the help of Politico’s Tim Alberta demand that Democrats understand and acknowledge that they “talk down to people”. In fact, their entire post hoc analysis is structured upon just such meaningless criticisms that defy definition much less corrective action. They mention “political correctness” repeatedly, without really giving examples. It’s just the idea, in a general sense, that “disapproving” of someone else’s expressed political point of view is “harmful”.

    Nobody of significance in Democratic politics is arguing that it’s okay for sophomores from Columbia to get all Che on Manhattan diners or that it’s helpful to burn cop cars. But if that’s the problem it shouldn’t be hard to say so. And it should be easy enough to discredit the ideas behind it. Crom knows Biden has done it more than enough.

    If white voters in MI-8 (and yes, they are white) are upset about being made to feel marginalized because they aren’t “vegan” or because they don’t recycle enough, that’s an easy discussion to have. Nobody in Democratic politics would shy away from it, least of all a “moderate” running in a Trump district. And yet Politico and the candidate entirely avoid any good examples of constituents being shamed or “put down” on issues like these. Whatever the hell it is, they can’t discuss it.

    You know what isn’t an easy discussion?
    You do, don’t you.
    Yep. Whiteness (and cis-gender maleness) is not an easy discussion.
    That’s probably why every single one of these post-hoc analyses deep diving into rural diners and farmhouse kitchen tables blows it off. It’s polarizing and deeply personal. It’s about personal identity. And confronting it represents meaningful loss.

    But time is up. It just is. It just can’t go on.

    So yep, in that sense it’s true that one half the country feels more “enlightened” than the other half. And one half the country is deeply engaged in trying to “correct” the other half. And the half that is being “corrected” resents the hell out of it.
    But that’s really not a good reason to blow it off, even if it makes campaigning easier in all-white, exurban CDs.
