I don’t think there are good Republican elected officials. But Jaime Herrera Beutler did show courage during impeachment. While ultimately her vote for Speaker and for much of the Republican agenda is bad, her being replaced by Joe Kent, who came in ahead of her in the primary, would be a step down.
Fortunately, Democrats have a rad candidate, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. If you’re able to volunteer or donate, they could use your help.

No idea if this is accurate. YMMV.
I’m confident it’s fairly accurate.
What this real estate, securities, and civil def attorney describes is very normal procedure. But she wouldn’t know that.
The warrant is not a public document. It’s contents describe allegations of criminal activity that have not been proven in court to the legal standard of conviction, but only to the probable cause standard as set forth in the 4th Amendment. This woman who was present, and who is an attorney, may not be Donald J. Trump’s attorney at all. Trump’s private Florida sex club is enormous. It has multiple residential wings intended to provide accommodations to guests who attend his private sex parties. Trump frequently provides his hospitality to members of his sex club or to their guests, even while he is away, as was often the case while he was briefly serving as president. Alina Habba may be a member who was staying at the club over the weekend. She may even have been engaged to perform some kind of legal work for Trump or his private sex club related to her area of specialization as an attorney. But that does not automatically grant her a power of attorney in all matters.
Federal search warrants get executed in the presence of random attorneys all the time, especially in cases involving corruption, financial crimes, fraud conspiracies, etc. Often these attorneys are no more familiar with criminal investigative procedures and criminal search warrants than a random street drunk. Sadly that seldom inhibits them from declaring themselves and demanding compliance, etc. FBI agents who carry out these kinds of searches are pretty used to it. They are polite, but firm. For all they know she works for a tabloid or perhaps even for HILLARY!
In the case of a garishly sprawling private sex club the warrant will be specific about rooms and areas to be searched. Excluding the random guests, service staff, thumb-headed security guards, and family pets from those areas during the search is also perfectly normal procedure. What the New Jersey lawyer describes sounds exaggerated but essentially accurate.

Sorta. Sold covered calls on three holdings.
New vehicle prices are up double digits over last year, and are up over last month. So I sold naked puts on Ford. I think Toyota is cheap, relatively speaking, right now.
Bank stocks are up today, because they benefit from 1) seeing another 50 basis point boost in short-term rates next month and 2) reduced risk that a 75 basis point boost that might further weaken the economy will occur.
There are different ways to play bank stocks. There’s the Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit way, which is to buy Citigroup in the high 60s, as he did, and then watch the shares plummet into the mid-40s before recovering to today’s $54ish. Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit is still down by $13-15/share relative to his purchase price. Or, one can sell naked puts on Citigroup with strike prices about 20% less than the trading price, and expirations 4-6 months out. A naked put on Citigroup sold fewer than 75 days ago will expire worthless in 9 days, with a several hundred dollar profit, and the shares themselves were never owned.
One can make a lot of money by reading about Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s latest share purchase and selling a naked put against the company at a strike price 20% less.
It’s profit off of Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s poor investment decisions, plain and simple.

@10 “a garishly sprawling private sex club”
Here it would be well to recount the history of the building and grounds now serving as Trump’s private sex club.
Mar-a-Lago was built in the Roaring 20s as a personal monument to the obscene wealth of Marjorie Merriweather Post, who did absolutely nothing to earn her vast wealth except be born, as was typical of second-generation wealth in those days.
Upon her death, she bequeathed the property to the National Park Service “hoping it could be used for state visits or as a Winter White House, but because the costs of maintaining the property exceeded the funds provided by Post, and because it was difficult to secure the facility (as it is located in the flight path of Palm Beach Airport), the property was returned to the Post Foundation by an act of Congress in 1981.” (Wikipedia) Four years later, Trump purchased it for $10 million in a decrepit and neglected state, and replaced the wallpaper with red velvet.
And, as you know, Trump used it as a Winter White House anyway; security not being a concern, as Chinese spies were routinely invited onto the premises anyway, as long as they had spreadable legs. And also because air traffic could be rerouted, to the inconvenience of every user of Palm Beach Airport, which was of no concern to him, whenever he chose to spend a golf weekend there at taxpayer expense which was frequently. And, not least, because he could charge taxpayers $650 per room, per night, for his Secret Service guests.
So the main thing to observe about Mar-a-Lago is that it was garish and impractical from the beginning, which had no bearing on the purposes of its builder, and Trump’s genius and business acumen turned it into a profitmaking real estate venture while enhancing and adding to its garishness, and even taking its notoriety to a new level by housing stolen national security records there to provide a reading library for highly trained Chinese comfort girls.
Vicious Troll spews:
And then there’s 3M, which Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit breathlessly told us he bought on a day during which he probably paid about $177/share or so. The stock’s been a dog, and recently was in the $120s before recovering to the current level just short of $150. Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit has lost roughly $27/share on that investment, and can only point to 3M’s dividend yield when he has to face his family and admit his failures.
Does anyone want to join Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit in the hope that 3M will recover by purchasing the shares today at $150? Didn’t think so.
But one can still make money off of 3M and off of the dumbfuckery of a certain bloviating, fat lagomorph, while not having to own the shares. Sell naked puts against 3M shares at a strike price of $130, expiration January 2023. There’s a risk of having to buy the shares at a price roughly $47 less than Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit paid to purchase them, but for taking that risk one is paid $3.10 up front, so the purchase price effectively would be $127 if the shares were put.
IOW one would pay $50/share LESS than Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit paid.
Sell 3 contracts, collect $930 today, and in about 130 days the contracts most likely expire worthless. It’s an easy way to make money while at the same time laughing one’s ass off at Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit’s stupid investment decisions.

But just so there isn’t any confusion for anyone else, applying for and obtaining a search warrant from a judge is not “always a last resort”. In front of federal courts the FBI will have to provide reasons why they are unable to obtain the information by other means. But that doesn’t mean that all the other means have to be exhausted.
And the FBI has been in negotiations with Trump’s team of overworked, RNC-provided lawyers since the beginning of this year to retrieve the remaining boxes of documents that Trump stole from the White House. It’s clear that at least some of these people lied to the FBI during those negotiations. It’s a very safe bet that somebody is facing a section 1001 charge.

@17 What I can do is sell the 3M for a tax loss to offset the taxable gain on the Exxon I bought at $36 a share, wait out the wash sale period, then buy back the 3M. By doing that I pay no taxes on my massive XOM gain and still own 3M.
Oh, where to begin?
1. A $50 gain on a $36 purchase is not a “massive gain”, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit. Massive gains are what one would have if one sold the Starbucks shares bought 20 years ago. Since this was not your example, we can safely assume that you dumped SBUX awhile ago. XOM was a pretty silly example to use.
Massive gains are what result from buying – and still holding – AAPL in 1993 and AMGN in 1995 and 1997. Trust me on this. The massiveness is maximized if those purchases were made in retirement accounts. Trust me on this.
2. Proper use of capital losses on share sales is not to offset capital gains, but to offset higher-taxed income, such as earned income, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit. Let’s take your situation. You earn no income and your household income from all sources is so fucking pitiful that your tax burden is miniscule. At most, maybe you’re in the cap gains 15% bracket, and that’s a stretch. Add to that the 3.8% Obamacare tax, but not for you, since you don’t take in enough to trigger it. So you’re looking at a 15% tax on a sale of a puny number of Exxon shares. A big whopping $750 tax on a sale of 100 shares, which is between-the-sofa-cushions change for real millionaires, but apparently a considerable sum in the Dumbfuck Rabbit household.
What you want to offset is earned income, taxed at a rate in the mid-30s, like people who have some wealth do, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit. So you sell the 3M and own the loss, because it reduces the income tax on your mid-six figure earned income for the year.
3. So, what to do with the Exxon shares, then? Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit, the proper thing to do with a “massive gain” is to donate the appreciated shares and not incur a taxable event in the first place. It’s how those with wealth handle their charitable contributions. An example:
In March 2020 you purchased 1,000 Alcoa shares at $20 each. In late Winter this year they appreciated to $75, so you transferred some of them into your charitable gift fund, and then they reached $90, so you transferred the rest. You avoided incurring a taxable event because you donated the shares, not cash, and let the gift fund manager sell them for cash. You donated $37,500 plus $45,000 = $82,500 to any of thousands of worthy causes (your choice, whenever you choose to make it), and you get to take a tax deduction of $82,500 at your IRS rate of, say 35%, which saves you $28,875 in federal income tax. The end result of this is:
• charities are $82,500 richer
• you avoid what could have been a $62,500 taxable gain by donating rather than selling the shares
• you reduce your tax bill by $28,875 by donating something that only cost you $20,000 to buy, little more than two years ago.
That’s how to handle a “massive gain”, Robinhood Dumbfuck Rabbit, but your family has neither the massive gain nor the wherewithal to donate to someone less fortunate than you. After all, there are few retirees who are less fortunate than you.

Why would this be so hard to “imagine”?
If any of us were to steal classified documents from the government and then lie to the FBI about that we would have to count ourselves very lucky if all the FBI did about it was retrieve the documents.
I don’t “imagine” any of us would be lucky enough to be treated so gently. But then again, I don’t “imagine” most of us know anything at all about classified documents.
But people like Elise Stefanik do. As part of her party’s leadership in the House she is assigned to the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. With full oversight of the entire array of U.S. intelligence services, including regular, closed-door, SCIF briefings on the most sensitive classified documents and programs, Ms. Stefanik has been required to receive special training in classification, SCIF protocols, and the criminal laws related to breaching classification, and has signed documents attesting to that fact.
And so did Trump. Although he probably ate cheeseburgers and texted during the training and didn’t read what he signed.

Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
74,
Since it’s part of an ongoing criminal investigation, and any persons alleged to have violated federal law are entitled to due process protections guaranteed under the 4th and 14th Amendments, any statement will be limited to generalities about how the FBI obtains and executes search warrants. I think it’s also likely that Garland or Monaco will address specific false statements being made by Trump, Trump lawyers, and members of the Trump family about the search.
Such a statement is for the benefit of the media to provide them with the certainty about the federal rules of criminal procedure and how those rules are followed so that they will no longer pass along some of the false statements being made.
We’ve actually seen all this before dozens of times going back decades when the FBI have executed search warrants on major crime syndicate bosses. “Fat Tony”, “Mike the Nose”, and “Other Tony” would frequently stand outside of a “social club” in Newark complaining about how “they tore my wife’s nightgown” and “the cat got out”, etc. Then the local AUSA in the crim div would issue a statement confirming that the wife was not present and that “Fat Tony had drowned the family cat in his swimming pool three years earlier.

A little boring, yes.
But in the same way that, when you get right down to it, a neighbor’s house fire is boring. Tragic perhaps. But boring. Yet there you are, standing barefoot in the street at 4am, watching from a safe distance and wondering how they fucked up.
Only this time it’s the house of the guy everyone in the whole neighborhood despises and wishes would just move to Montana like they keep “threatening”.

Question I have is where is the “rigged election”, “mail-in voter fraud” and “stolen election” claims? Oh yeah, he placed second in a top-two primary, so of course there was none of that other stuff going on.
You know if he fished third all of those Trumpalo claims would be flying out of his mouth. Ain’t that so Doc?

When Robert Brockman, one of the richest people in the country, was visiting his company’s offices near Dayton, Ohio, he stayed at budget motels and ate frozen dinners in his room, a former employee recalled.
The penny-pinching was integral to Mr. Brockman’s success in the automotive business, where he rose from humble roots to control one of the largest U.S. providers of software for car dealerships, Reynolds & Reynolds Co.
Though he had a net worth measured in the billions, few could have guessed it by the relatively modest way in which he lived. He didn’t appear on Forbes’ list of wealthiest Americans until he was indicted in 2020 on federal charges that he had committed the biggest individual tax fraud in U.S. history. (His wealth was pegged then at $4.7 billion, but his wife said in a December 2020 affidavit that a Brockman Bermuda trust had assets of at least $7.7 billion.)

Whenever you make those kinds of compassionate calls it’s very important to let law enforcement know about any firearms or other weapons that might be present as well as any threats of violence toward police, other government officials, or anyone else.
For officer safety.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@106 Sadly, Mr. Shiffer has passed away. That his Trump Derangement Syndrome led to this is a tragedy for his family, militia buddies, and fellow Jan. 6 rioters. He announced his intentions on Trump’s Truth Social, and an intervention might have saved him, had someone timely notified authorities, which was unlikely. He met his end in a cornfield, carrying on the tradition of Pretty Boy Floyd. His Social Security contributions will now go to YLB’s kids, his nail gun and AR-15 to an evidence room, and his ashes to a landfill if no one claims them. That’s a good reason not to root around in landfills for aluminum cans, etc.; you just don’t know what else might be there.

Doctrinally, securing such a breach would come at an almost incalculable cost. If targeting system details are exposed it could render a substantial portion of the US nuclear arsenal strategically ineffective.

It just can’t be overstated how vital it has become for us to get rid of Republicans. They have made themselves too dangerous to be allowed to participate in government at any level.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@114 We don’t have to get rid of Republicans. They’re getting rid of themselves, one civil warrior at a time.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Well, it all makes sense now. We now know the Mar-a-Lago search wasn’t related to the Jan. 6 insurrection or Trump’s coup attempt. We know Trump took not 15, but 27, boxes of records with him to Mar-a-Lago. We know the government negotiated to get those records back, we know they were subpoenaed, we know Trump told DoJ to take a hike. We know AG Merrick Garland personally approved, if not ordered, the search. We know why a lowly federal magistrate signed the search warrant probably knowing that he was risking his life and his children’s lives by doing so. We now know there isn’t a federal judge or magistrate in all 50 states who wouldn’t have signed that search warrant, once informed of what the agents were looking for. We know an informant told the FBI what was there and led them to it. The only thing we don’t know is why in God’s name Republicans still have a problem with this search. Their houses and families will get blown up, too, in a Russian or Chinese first strike.

Signals intelligence?? Good fucking grief.
The fact signals intelligence was reportedly recovered at Mar-a-Lago shocked national security professionals.
Retired USAF Gen. Michael Hayden, who served as director of the NSA and CIA, simply tweeted, “Jesus Christ.”
Bill Kristol, who served as Vice President Dan Quayle’s chief of staff, offered his analysis.
“It’s been a while since I was in government, but signals intelligence—man, you are really not supposed to mess around with that,” he wrote.
He wondered if it might be connected to Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
“People ask why Trump would keep docs,” he added. “Plenty of possible reasons. E.g.—and this example is pure speculation: Signals intel on MBS and [Jamal] Khashoggi, or on Saudi nukes, are the kind of docs you’d want in case you had to remind the Saudis to keep the $ coming.”
Historian Claire Potter wrote, “If it was you or I who, and not Trump, who were in possession of top secret documents about nuclear weapons, or signals intel–well, you or I would be in handcuffs in a very bright room with glam rock playing in our ears. Yet he plays the victim.”
Journalist Kurt Eichenwald wrote, “I never thought there was anything left that Trump could do that could shock me. But THIS? He took nuclear weapons and signals intel documents to his goddamn golf resort? Ok, I will finally say it. Lock him up.”
Former Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes was asked about the reporting during an interview with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell.
Rhodes said, “I keep coming back to the fact that — how unusual, how remarkably unusual it would be for anybody to be keeping this information, frankly even like while you are in the White House. It’s not like you need to keep records of the stuff if you are the president of the United States.”

-It’s Democrat’s fault anyway, because they are not “one of us”.
Less than a month before Every Republican You Know voted to make Donald Trump the next President of the United States he went on television and admitted to them that he had bragged to a bus load of complete strangers about his long and “successful” career as a serial rapist.

Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
At least after this we won’t have to debate anymore if Trump controls the GOP.
Once the dust settles, the appropriately redacted details of the warrant become public, and the appalling extent of Trump’s disregard for U.S. and NATO defense becomes obvious, we’ll see if the Republican Party, Republicans in Congress, and their aligned media continue to back him.
I’m betting they will.
I’m betting that right now they are all meeting individually and in groups with communications strategists formulating the message. They’ll drop the calls for the assassination of federal judges, for defunding federal law enforcement, and for impeaching AG Garland. But they’ll continue to back Trump.
They really have no other choice.
