@180 True as far as it goes, but not the whole story. Many of our fellow citizens prefer a strongman because democracy allows people they don’t like to win. Others want a theocracy. A southern faction still resents losing the War To Abolish Slavery. Still others literally are felons and criminals themselves. The GOP has collected the dregs of society into a coalition based on racism, xenophobia, and greed — what Hillary Clinton accurately called “a basket of deplorables.”
The Democrats are everyone else. They’re not a homogenous group, so organizing them into a cohesive political movement is difficult. It takes hard work, lots of it. They’re further handicapped by being too decent to do what Republicans are willing to do. They have leaders, they have an agenda, they need to work on messaging and reaching voters.
