Like Goldy, I had assumed the WA DREAM Act was DOA. And so like Goldy, I was genuinely surprised when it got a hearing and passed in the State Senate. Congrats, first and foremost, to the dreamers.* I hope they get the best out of their education. I hope they stay here in Washington and do great things, but whatever they do and wherever any individuals end up, this is a great opportunity. One they have earned and that they deserve.
Also, congrats to the activists and legislators who pushed through the cynicism — including mine, initially. This shows that even in a gridlocked, dysfunctional legislature that democratic pressure can do great things.
I hope this also puts the lie to the next thing Rodney Tom says we can’t do even though he claims to want to do it and the votes are there. That argument killed so much good stuff throughout the last session, and special sessions.
*DREAMers? Dreamers? I don’t know what the capitalization should be, and I realize I’m doing capitalization/not-capitalization differently in the text than in the title, but I stand by it.

I posted about this yesterday in another thread. What happened is the Senate Republicans did an about-face and decided to support this bill. It’s not clear why. Rodney Tom had nothing to do with it, as far as I know.

Ah Democrats, always willing to overlook law breaking in order to increase voter rolls.

Care to swap actual statistics as apposed to misinformation?
Voter fraud, voter suppression, voter intimidation and such?

@2,
The vote was 35-10 in the GOP controlled Senate. This is one of the few good, bipartisan things that has happened in the legislature, and yet somehow you’re blaming — when, and I can’s stress this enough, no blame is necessary — Democrats. Also, this doesn’t do anything to increase the voter rolls, since their citizenship status is a federal issue. And finally, most of the horrible, horrible “law breaking” that happened took place when they were children; if you want to punish that for the rest of their lives, well I’m sorry you’re such an awful person. I wouldn’t want to have to look in the mirror and see your face every day.
