When it comes to important national issues, 73% of adults nationwide trust the judgment of the American people more than that of America’s political leaders.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 13% place more trust in the judgment of the politicians.
Twenty percent (20%) of Democrats trust America’s political leaders more than the American people, the highest level of support for the politicians found among any measured demographic group. But 63% of Democrats trust the general public more.
Among Republicans, 83% trust people more than politicians as do 76% of those not affiliated with either major party.

I about drove my car into a Jersey barrier the other day, when I was listening to the radio and heard a Republican boldly proclaim, “The Federal Government is not ‘We the people’.”
Now, there are really only two explanations for this:
1) Republicans are too stupid to fully grok this democracy thing; or
2) Republicans think we’re too stupid to figure out this democracy thing.
Frankly, I think it’s a combination of the two. The Republican leadership fall into the second category, and the rank-and-file Republican membership (as evidenced by our resident trolls) fall into the first category.
Republicans either fear the government or want us to fear the government, when, with a representative democracy, it should be the other way around. The government should be afraid of the people.
Fortunately, I think most people are starting to catch on to this fundamental contradiction between Republican philosophy and the concept of a representative government. In other words, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the only people who are buying into the bullshit of the Republican Party leadership are rank-and-file Republicans.

@ 41
So us zany conservatives said forever the uninsured number is lower than the reported figure.
Oh, goody. Puddy’s going to throw numbers at us, yet, again, fail to put forth a cogent argument that leads to any reasonable conclusion. While Puddy doesn’t actually articulate the argument, one would guess that he’s arguing that, while these people are actually uninsured, for some reason that he doesn’t articulate, they really ought not be counted among the uninsured.
Let’s take each of these in turn:
9.7+ million are illegal aliens
In this case, Puddy simply has his facts wrong. The chart on table 22 discusses nativity, and lists a figure of ~9.7 million as “Not a citizen.” There’s nothing in that report about illegal aliens or undocumented workers.
Is there a difference? Absolutely. My father-in-law, for example, is a legal alien resident who is married to a US citizen. He’s simply never bothered to become a naturalized citizen. Nevertheless, he worked in this country for more than four decades and paid taxes on his income. Why shouldn’t he be counted? We don’t know. Puddy never says.
7.9+ million are under 24
Again, Puddy isn’t careful with the facts. According to that same table on page 22, the 7.9 million figure is for people between the ages of 18 and 24, though I’m glad he thinks that children under the age of 18 should be counted as uninsured.
But, again, Puddy gives no logic or reasoning for deciding that people between the ages of 18 and 24 ought not be counted. Do they, somehow, not require health care? Or, does Puddy simply think that you’re not a real person until you’ve reached the age of 24? And, if the latter, how convenient is it that the Census Bureau just happened to pick a cut-off age that corresponds to Puddy’s view?
9 million+ are paid least $75,000 a year.
At last! Puddy actually gets the facts correct, but, yet again, there’s no logic or reasoning given for excluding these people. One might presume that the reason would be that these people are able to afford private insurance, and, thus, have chosen to go without insurance, but, we’re left to speculate on Puddy’s argument. He simply doesn’t give one.
But, let us presume that the issue of affordability is the basis of Puddy’s reasoning. Is there any evidence that this presumption is, in fact, true? What percentage of these people are simply unable, due to pre-existing conditions, to obtain health insurance at any price?
Summary: Puddy gets a number of facts wrong, and makes presumptions about other facts that are simply not in evidence. Worse yet, Puddy doesn’t even bother to articulate a cogent argument in support of his conclusion, leaving us to speculate as to precisely what his reasoning might be.
The truly pathetic thing is, Puddy’s one of the smartest of our wingnut trolls.

Yep the U.S. government describes any foreign-born person who is not a citizen by naturalization or parentage an alien. So why do I have to pay for their medical costs illegal or legal alien? Does he have a plan Don Joe? Don Joe never answers this. Why Don Joe? Why is your father-in-law in this argument?
Sympathy. It’s in the dictionary between shithead(you) and syphilis (leadless douchy’s disease) It’s your side who wants to call them undocumented workers. How politically correct. Various web sites recommend these alternative terms to “smooth” the conversation.

Don Joe spews:
@ 59
Hey Don Joe, I see you are up to your standard systematic disambiguation again.
That phrase makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, at least not in the sense of being something bad. To “disambiguate” is to clarify the meaning of something. And, to do it systematically would imply clarification through rigorous thought and reasoning.
‘Course, if Puddy actually thinks that “systematic disambiguation” is a bad thing, that would certainly go a long way toward explaining the lack of cogent thought in any of Puddy’s posts.
Frankly, I think Puddy doesn’t quite grok the notion that someone who asserts that a given proposition is true has the burden of proving that the proposition is true. The questions I ask serve to demonstrate where that proof has fallen short of the mark. If Puddy chooses not to answer those questions, then we are justified in rejecting Puddy’s conclusion. This is standard rhetorical operating procedure, of which Puddy appears to be quite unaware.
Notice the way Don Joe phrases his questions.
Yup. All of them designed to both clarify and denote the holes in Puddy’s implied argument–implied argument, because Puddy never articulates one.
You can do that to the average libtard Don Joe but Puddy don’t play dat game.
No shit. The game Puddy plays has no rigor or coherent thought whatsoever.
Yep the U.S. government describes any foreign-born person who is not a citizen by naturalization or parentage an alien.
Note, not any acknowledgement from Puddy that his use of “illegal” in reference to “aliens” was completely unjustified.
So why do I have to pay for their medical costs illegal or legal alien?
Note, again, Puddy’s ignorance, either willful or otherwise, of the facts. Legal aliens work and pay taxes just like citizens do. Given that this is true, it’s as equally likely that these legel aliens would be paying for Puddy’s health care as it would be that Puddy would be paying for theirs.
The issue is, who pays taxes, not who is a citizen. But, Puddy won’t address that issue. Why? Because it’s inconvenient to the conclusion he wants to reach.
Why is your father-in-law in this argument?
Well, strictly speaking, given the Puddy hasn’t bothered to articulate an argument, it wouldn’t be necessary for me to point out that not all alien residents in this country are illegal residents.
However, Puddy’s argument carried the implied assumption that all of the aliens referenced in the Census Bureau’s report were, in fact, illegal aliens. My father-in-law’s presence in this discussion, then, serves as a counter example to demonstrate that this implied assumption is false.
Now, it’s entirely possible that most of the aliens counted in the survey cited by the Census Bureau are illegal aliens, but the onus is on Puddy to come up with evidence that shows us what the actual number is. After all, Puddy’s the one who is arguing that the Census Bureau’s number of uninsured people is misleading.
My two sons are under 24. I pay for their medical insurance. So what?
Indeed. So what? Puddy’s two sons are insured, as was I when I went to college and was covered by my parents’ insurance. Exactly what does this fact have to do with the accuracy of counting the number of uninsured people in the United States?
Perhaps Puddy is assuming that the Census Bureau’s survey would count Puddy’s two sons as uninsured? If so, then, clearly, Puddy didn’t read Appendix C of the document that he, himself, linked. While there might be some issues of underreporting, those issues involve people who are covered by Medicare/Medicaid. None of those problems involve young adults who, for a variety of reasons, are covered by someone else’s insurance.
So, again, Puddy assumes facts not in evidence.
The same can generally be said of the rest of the questions in the same paragraph of Puddy’s comment. So what? If Puddy thinks that any of these categories are statistically significant, the onus is on Puddy to prove that they are.
Yep, $75,000. Why should they get it free?
First of all, note the amazing shift in gears, here. Puddy’s assertion, that the Census Bureau’s figures are not to be trusted in terms of the policy decision, has been completely abandoned. Instead, Puddy jumps straight to the policy issue. This wouldn’t be all that bad, if Puddy had bothered to properly justify his original assertion. Having failed to properly justify his original assertion, however, Puddy’s question is nothing more than a red herring.
Second, it’s a pretty pathetic red herring. Someone who makes more than $75000 in annual income pays taxes, and, as such, would not be getting government-provided health care for free. What a monumental disconnect of facts floating around in Puddy’s head.
Notice Don Joe never gives his answers. All he does is attack others but he rarely gives an answer.
First, notice the contradiction in those two sentences, and, while I’m perfectly willing to allow for the first sentence being hyperbole, the notion that I rarely give answers strikes me as rather poorly founded. Perhaps Puddy could do a survey of the number of questions people have asked me in the comment threads and compare that number to the number where I’ve actually answered questions.
Second, as for why I attack faulty arguments, the explanation above about the burden of proof borne by someone who contends that a particular conclusion is true.
Why does Puddy complain about my attacks on his arguments? Is it because those attacks have been very effective? One wonders.
Don Joe spews:
@ 68
Notice Diddled Lover and Don Joe don’t make any case about the US Military men and women being pissed about this proposal.
Fascinating. From Puddy’s original comment:
This is why men and women in the military are pissed.
The “this” referent in that statement is Puddy’s argument about the Census Bureau overstating the number of uninsured people in the United States and his lament that the “liberal MSM” don’t tell the whole truth.
Apparently Puddy doesn’t quite understand that, if his premise lies in shambles (which is pretty much the case right now), then his conclusion is flawed. Now, rather than go back an rehabilitate his premise, he’s pissing and moaning over the fact that we haven’t bothered to discuss his conclusion.
What an incredibly pathetic and addled mind this Puddy possesses.
Puddybud, Hey it's the new year... spews:
Hey Don Joe… You missed the point. It was the military being upset. I posted the link earlier this week… Did you read that one too?

@61 I should say something here.
I followed some links posted by Puddy the other evening and was soon satisfied that he had indeed very strongly condemned the behavior of those Republicans in the links I had posted many times. I had long taken issue because the only post of Puddy’s I was familiar with was from much earlier than the others and where he had only said he didn’t “condone” such behavior. I wasn’t satisfied with that. It turns out that I had missed his subsequent condemnations and hadn’t bothered with his previous attempts at links to his comments. As far as Puddy goes, I’ve dropped this matter.
I had also in the past made statements directed at Puddy accusing him of that very abhorent behavior. To borrow Puddy’s third person narrative, that wasn’t Steve at his best. Steve can do better than that. Steve has done better than that. Steve will continue to do better than that. Steve apologizes to Puddy for making many false and mean-spirited accusations. Steve’s apology is non-conditional. That is, the apology offered isn’t contingent on Puddy apologizing in return. That said, Steve will continue to kick Puddy’s ass in spirited debate which contains none of the previous vicious name calling and other low brow tactics in which we both participated.
Puddy is invited to save this post for future reference.
Puddybud, Hey it's the new year... spews:
Steve, Thank you. Entering first person personal mode, I accepted your apology when you said you are always right on other issues. Remember my response?
I appreciate you explaining to the clueless village idiot the truth. We’ll leave Pelletizer, Ekim and others to enjoy the goats. The breaking bread and having a drink offer still stands. Now back to 3rd person inpersonal mode.
Puddy says, now back to the fun.

[The military] are upset about illegals being uninsured.
And? Is there a point there somewhere? Are they, somehow, experts in the number of illegal aliens being reported as uninsured?
We didn’t miss this. What’s missing is any attempt on Puddy’s part to show ho the Census Bureau’s report has anything to do with what some people in the military believe to be true.
Premised supported fool.
“Premised”? Yeah, typo, but it would seem that Don Joe’s getting inside Puddy’s head.
Having said that, one does wonder whether Puddy even understands the meaning of the word “premise” in this context. Perhaps he understands it as well as he appears to have understood the meaning of the word “disambiguate”.
Puddybud, Hey it's the new year... spews:
Don Joe: disambiguate means to establish a single grammatical or semantic interpretation. Sorry but your clarifying remarks don’t cut it.
Your single semantic interpretation to life is the World According to Don Joe. That was my standard systematic disambiguation point back on your definition of abortion in the other thread.
This time the standard systematic disambiguation is what should be insured. Puddy argued the military isn’t happy over this argument and Puddy posted a link for this earlier this week.
Your standard systematic disambiguation revolves around what Puddy said in my original post and your definition it’s lost on what the fine men and women are arguing on their blogs.
Correctly used and referred to.
Steve spews:
@73 “Remember my response?”
Yes, I do.
Puddybud, Hey it's the new year... spews:
Steve, good. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH! Ever been to 13 Coins? 24 Hour Restaurant!
correctnotright spews:
Puddy has been fairly consistent about condemning racist on this blog.
Now back to kicking the BFPA on the facts.
Puddybud, Hey it's the new year... spews:
Thanks Steve and Dr NotRight.
Why are these facts lost on clueless village idiot and others?
One explanation… They are Goldy’s baboons and chimps…
Steve spews:
@77 Mmm, yes. I used to go to the 13 Coins in Seattle all the time. It was an alternative to another great all-nighter that was called “the Doghouse.”

Oh, my. Puddy’s got himself so contorted, that there’s a chance he’ll never get himself untied. According to Puddy, my “single semantic interpretation to[sic] life” constitutes a “standard systematic disambiguation”. In other words, my “standard” is subjective. Perhaps Puddy will go back to that dictionary where he found the definition of “disambiguate” and notice that the words “standard” and “subjective” are antonyms.
That still leaves the question: if the issue, in Puddy’s mind, is who should and should not be insured, then why, on earth, did Puddy even bother to discuss the number of people who are uninsured according to the Census Bureau.
Whatever Puddy means by his manufactured phrase of “standard systematic disambiguation,” the fact remains that Puddy has drawn absolutely no logical connections between the data that he cites, in error I might add, and the conclusion with which he thinks we should agree.
We’ve seen this before. Puddy and his disconnected facts. I think it’s time to add a new adjective to the alliterative phrase. It’s now the Pathetic Puddy Parade of Partial Punditry.
Will Puddy ever pull together a coherent argument that goes from facts to a conclusion? One wonders.

Looks like somebody doesn’t understand the difference between seasonally adjusted and non-seasonally adjusted employment figures.
And that “somebody” isn’t Joe Biden.
Puddybud, Hey it's the new year... spews:
Almost a good job Don Joe. It’s your definitions of every thing I disagree with. You don’t touch the military and their position on uninsured illegal aliens and others. That’s the disconnected fact.
Somehow I remember people eviscerating you in link 13008 over what you are accusing me of here, disconnected facts.
Good job Don Joe, but not good enough.
Puddybud, Hey it's the new year... spews:
Steve, wanna meet there sometime soon? Close to I-5 and easy access.

It’s your definitions of every thing I disagree with.
I’m having a conversation with Humpty Dumpty:
‘When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,’ it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.’ [Lewis Carroll. Through the Looking Glass]
Of course, in this case, it seems that it’s my fault for not understand what our resident Humpty Dumpty is really trying to say. I’m the one who, supposedly, is “denser than spent uranium.”
Truly amazing.
You don’t touch the military and their position on uninsured illegal aliens and others. That’s the disconnected fact.
I don’t “touch” that, because, well, Puddy hasn’t bothered to connect it up to anything. He has still not produced a cogent argument. Indeed, he hasn’t even articulated a conclusion we’re supposed to reach on this.
We could speculate. Let’s see, we shouldn’t do government-insured health care for everyone, because the idea pisses off too many people in the military? Oh, lordy! Can’t piss off people in the military! The world will come to an end.
But, until Puddy comes up with an argument that connects the facts he cites to some kind of conclusion, there’s no point in trying to “touch” the facts he cites. As usual, Puddy starts nowhere, and ends up in mid air. He’s starting to remind me of the famous Cooper indians.

Yes, we should do that. I think it’d be great. We’ll have to time it with a trip of mine to the Seattle area as my home is out in Union at Hood Canal.
