Compared to Bush and Cheney and Rumsfeld, Savage’s role is minor, but he, like every other war supporter, is responsible for some of the carnage nonetheless. I don’t know how to spell that out any more clearly.

His reputation as a political “genius” is in tatters (among others: Social Security, Katrina, 2006 elections – Republicans are even openly challenging his performance in 2000 and 2004). And his attempts to win over Latino voters have been sunk by the racist/xenophobic wing of the GOP.
And, of course, the White House offered up four different explanations (seriously, four) today for why he was leaving. If he really was leaving on his own terms, they wouldn’t have had to do so much grasping and backtracking today.

We’re living in an extraordinary time in American history where a Republican President is trying to re-define much of what this country has stood for since its very inception. I’ve been trying my best to help Marvin. It’s no fun when the trolls are as stupid as him. I like the ones who are smart enough to start to get a sense of how dumb they are. I’m not sure Marvin’s even that smart. He may be a lost cause.

Klake, I read your post with some interest since I hadn’t seen your work before. Unfortunately, the point of your post was lost on me. You start out apparently intending to discuss the political state of affairs in Iraq but then devolve into a paean to the American foot soldier.
What am I supposed to take away from that? Are there brave soldiers in both the American and Iraqi forces? Sure, never disputed that. Is that going to fix the political problems in Iraq? You sure haven’t made any kind of persuasive argument that it will.

As for comment @78, I agree. There are brave Iraqis, brave American soldiers, and a lot of people who really, really, want Iraq to work out. But all of that doesn’t mean anything when you have to deal with the seriousness of the political problems…

OneMan, great observation you can win military but you can’t politically no matter what goverment is running the show. This Nation is the best example of that problem. Define Win and stablize the country(Iraq) and let them run it anyway they want. But don’t expect them to adope the Democrat Party to run their country.

I don’t imagine they “adopt”ed the Republican party to run their country either. As I recall, they didn’t have much say in who was going to (mis-)run their country.
Um, I believe that’s the problem in a nutshell. Too bad the Neocons didn’t think of that before going in with no plan for the aftermath.
And what in anything you’ve said (either here or in your blog entry) gives you any basis for your presumed optimism? Once again, you throw a lot of words around but don’t make many points. Spell it out for a dumb ol’ liberal: what are you trying to say?

Oh: need I point out the irony of you bringing up Mosul as a bright spot in your blog in light of today’s news? Not that I take any particular glee in scoring political points on the backs of so many dead and wounded.
