“The David Goldstein Show” tonight on News/Talk 710-KIRO

by Goldy — Sunday, 9/23/07, 6:53 pm

Tonight on “The David Goldstein Show”, 7PM to 10PM on News/Talk 710-KIRO:

7PM: Has WA “utterly failed” to do the right thing on reproductive rights?
That’s the strong assertion of state Rep. Brendan Williams (D-Olympia) after joining a rally outside Ralph’s Thriftway, where supporters of the pharmacy’s refusal to stock “Plan B” birth control verbal attacked female protesters, calling them “whores,” and asking a pregnant protester why she didn’t “scrape that baby out of her uterus.” Rep. Williams joins us for the hour.

8PM: Is it time to do what “believe is right” on same sex marriage?
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, a Republican, and former Chief of Police, held an emotional press conference this week in which he reversed his opposition to same sex marriage, tearfully explaining that his daughter and several staffers are gay, and that he “couldn’t look any of them in the face and tell them their relationship, their very lives, were any less meaningful than the marriage I share with my wife, Rana.” Is it time for America, even Republicans, to finally do what we “believe is right” on same sex marriage?

9PM: Remembering Walt Crowley
Michael Hood eulogizes populist pundit Walt Crowley over on BlatherWatch, and he joins us by phone to remember his close friend.

Tune in tonight (or listen to the live stream) and give me a call: 1-877-710-KIRO (5476).

Lets not forget that this drug no longer requires a prescription! Brendan is only putting a political twist on this for his own benefit. Does he think by standing with the women on this he is getting more women to vote for him? WRONG

Brendan is not pandering for votes. He will have his seat as long as he wants it. This is a regulatory issue and the law needs to be clarified.

    Stormy daze,

“Lets not forget that this drug no longer requires a prescription!”

Right…since it is a form of emergency contraception, being non-prescription makes it much more effective.

“Brendan is only putting a political twist on this for his own benefit. Does he think by standing with the women on this he is getting more women to vote for him? WRONG”

Ummm…let’s see. In 2004 Rep. Williams won the election by a 20 point margin (60% to 40%). (He won by 100% in 2006.) Trying to attribute his actions to political pandering is just plain stupid. (But…let me guess…you’re a Republican.)

Here’s a clue for ya, Squirt…Rep. Williams is formerly the executive director of the Washington Health Care Association.

When you run into one of these radical pro lifers, ask them how many unwanted children they have adopted. If they say anything less than 5 they are hypocrites and you should let them know.

They can oppose abortion, and they want to force people to have kids they don’t want, but refuse to take care of the kids we already have that no one wants.

Just what we need millions of additional unwanted children in the U.S. with no one to take care of them.

    Build more prisons right?

Seems funny how many are pro-life, and pro-war at the same time. Kinda the opposite of that Jesus dude….

    Stormy daze,

“This drug in NOT MEANT FOR BIRTH CONTROL.”

Yes it is. It is an emergency contraception.

    con·tra·cep·tion /ˌkɒntrəˈsɛpʃən/ –noun
the deliberate prevention of conception or impregnation by any of various drugs, techniques, or devices; birth control.

“Plan B is an overdose of a regular contraceptive.”

Wrong. It is just a HIGHER DOSE, not an “overdose.” The high dose of estrogen prevents (or delays) ovulation, in the same way oral contraceptions and Depo-Provera do. Since there is no ovulation, there is no egg deposited in the fallopian tube for the little guys to fertilize.

You Wingnuts seem to constantly confuse Plan B with RU486 which acts differently. RU486 is an “abortion pill.” It interferes with cell receptors in the uterus. Progesterone is normally produced in high doses by the corpus luteum (an organ created in the ovary from the follicle that ovulated), and the progesterone is necessary to maintain the endometrium. RU486, essentially starves the endometrium of progesterone and causes the endometrial lining to be shed (i.e. results in menstruation and hence, expulsion of the fetus if impregnation has occurred).

    stormy daze,

“Gee let me guess Darryl – you must be his #1 supporter.”

Well…let’s see…I don’t live in his district, I’ve never donated money to him, I’ve never met him or communicated with him, and I’ve never written about him in a blog post or comment thread prior to this one.

So…um…no, I suspect there are plenty of people ahead of me contending for that top title “#1 supporter for Rep. Williams.”

Stormy Daze: Just remember almost 5.5 million abortions since the start of the Iraq war and counting.

So if you take 5473874/3795 = 1442 abortions for every soldier killed in Iraq.

Now studies have shown over 65% of those abortions would have voted donk. Imagine all those lost voters!!!
